Places to Visit in Kollur Mookambika Temple

Mookambika Temple and the Souparnika
The temple stands in the town with the Souparnika running below it and Kodachadri behind. The sanctum holds a swayambhu linga divided by a golden line taken to represent Shiva and Shakti together, with the image of Mookambika behind it - worshipped as Saraswati in the morning hours and as Lakshmi and Durga at others. Pilgrims bathe in the river before darshan. Visit early; the temple keeps a midday break and the morning worship is when it is at its best. Dress conventions apply and the queue moves efficiently outside festival periods.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Arsikere
Coconut Junction of Karnataka
The route leaves Bangalore northwest and branches at Nelamangala, which is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 6:30 AM on a nine-hour day. Tumakuru is coconut country and the Siddaganga Math sits on the edge of it. Tiptur, sixty kilometres on, is the copra capital of India with a GI tag and a market that sets national prices, and the plantations run unbroken either side of the road for an hour. Arsikere is a railway junction with a thirteenth-century Hoysala Ishvara temple that almost nobody stops for and which is worth twenty minutes if you have them.

Shivamogga
Gateway to the Malnad
A hundred and forty-five kilometres north-west through Kadur and Birur, junction towns where the Chikmagalur and Shivamogga roads divide, and Tarikere, which is the turn for the Bhadra sanctuary and reservoir. The country thickens as you go and the Ghats appear to the west. Shivamogga sits on the Tunga and is the natural lunch halt - the last place with a full range of services before the hill roads, and the practical base for this whole region. Groups extending the trip toward Jog or Sagara often stay here rather than pushing on. Beyond it the road turns properly into the Malnad.

Hosanagara
Taluk of the Sharavathi
Eighty kilometres west and the driving changes completely - narrow winding road through areca gardens and forest, climbing and dropping continuously, with the pace well below what the distance suggests. This is some of the finest Malnad country in Karnataka and the drive is a large part of the trip. Thirthahalli sits on the Tunga near Kuppalli, where Kuvempu was born and where the house is preserved - the Rashtrakavi whose work is bound up with exactly this landscape. Hosanagara follows, in the Sharavathi country. From here to Kollur the road runs through forest for long stretches and the last of it is genuinely remote.

Kollur
Mookambika Kshetra of the Souparnika
Forty kilometres of forest road with the Ghats closing in, and Kodachadri rising ahead - the peak is visible from some distance out and it explains the geography of the place before you arrive at it. The Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary is around you for most of this stretch. Kollur is a temple town in the literal sense - the shrine, the Souparnika below it, pilgrim accommodation, shops selling offerings, and hills on every side. It is compact and congested near the temple, so drops are at the perimeter during busy periods. Byndoor and the coast are thirty kilometres west. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 5:30 AM departure puts most travellers in Kollur by around 3:00 PM, in time for the evening worship.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Kollur Route
Corporate Package
Built for Bangalore companies running staff pilgrimage days and family outings on the coastal temple circuit, and for teams heading to the Udupi and Mangalore industrial belt who add Kollur to the trip. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full multi-day trip and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate tempo traveller bangalore stays with your team across every leg, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The dominant booking on this route by a wide margin, and the one the vehicle is really specified for. Built around temple timings rather than a fixed schedule, with a driver who understands that a family will be inside for as long as the darshan queue takes and that the vehicle needs to be waiting when they come out. Vidyarambham groups travelling with young children and grandparents get particular attention on boarding and halt planning. Groups combining Kollur with Shringeri, Horanadu, Udupi, Murudeshwar or Kukke should share the full day-wise plan at enquiry, and we will set out realistically what fits in the days you have.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Non-AC 9 to 14 seater tempo travellers, point to point, no frills, clean vehicle and a verified driver. This suits bhajan groups, samithi units, college trips and community pilgrimages, all of which travel this route regularly. The tempo traveller rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a circuit of nine hundred kilometres or more the saving across a full group is substantial. Non-AC is comfortable here for most of the year, since much of the route is hill and coastal country; March to May on the Hassan plains is the exception. The budget tier is about vehicle specification only, never about maintenance or driver vetting.
Luxury and Executive Package
Executive configuration with fewer, wider push-back seats, extra legroom, better sound insulation and premium interiors. On a nine-hour drive each way with ghat sections in the middle, and with a passenger list that on a Kollur trip usually includes elderly members, this is the tier groups most often wish they had taken. Suited to senior family members, milestone occasions and guests travelling in from outside the country. For a step further, our luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration is a premium alternative on the same route.
Our Tempo Traveller Fleet in Bangalore
Our ac tempo traveller bangalore fleet runs 9, 12, 14, 17 and 18 seater configurations. We operate the full range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount shifts after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, AC and non-AC, the core vehicle for this route
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for groups that outgrow a tempo traveller
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large movements
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle in our fleet is seated configuration with push-back seats. On a route of this length we plan a daytime drive with a hotel halt rather than overnight running, and on the Shringeri to Kollur leg in particular that is a safety decision rather than a comfort one, since the road is narrow, unlit and runs through forest.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where a trip extends beyond Karnataka
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. We factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay. On this route interstate tax does not normally apply, since the road stays inside Karnataka throughout, which makes it cheaper to run than a comparable distance into Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh.
Two costs sit outside our billing on this itinerary. Kodachadri jeep charges are paid directly at the base, since private vehicles are not permitted on the final stretch, and temple seva, archana and accommodation bookings are made by your group with the temple administration rather than through us. Circuit kilometres also add up quickly once Udupi or Murudeshwar are in the plan, so send us the full day-wise itinerary and we will quote the whole trip rather than the outbound leg alone.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

• For corporate bookings from Bangalore tech parks, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format.
Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

• Driver allowance is stated separately, at Rs 400 to Rs 1,000 per day depending on vehicle class.

• If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time.

• During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments and highway exits.
• The day is planned so the Shringeri to Kollur leg is driven in daylight, since the road is narrow, unlit and runs through forest.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kollur Mookambika Temple Tempo Traveller
The bangalore to kollur distance is approximately 450 kilometres via Hassan, Belur, Mudigere, Horanadu and Shringeri, or about 425 kilometres via Tumkur, Shivamogga, Hosanagara and Nagara. Either way it is nine to ten hours of driving, with ghat sections in the middle that cannot be hurried. Most groups split the journey across two days or leave Bangalore by 5:00 AM. It is the longest single haul of any temple route we run from Bangalore short of Srisailam or Shirdi.
It depends on your itinerary rather than the distance. The Hassan and Shringeri route is slightly longer but puts Belur, Horanadu and Shringeri directly on your path, so a temple circuit gets three more shrines for no extra driving. The Shivamogga route is shorter and faster if you are heading straight to Kollur, and it is the better side for adding Jog Falls. Many groups go in on one and return on the other, which covers the whole circuit without repeating a kilometre. Tell us which shrines matter and we will sequence it.
We recommend breaking it. Nine to ten hours of driving with ghat sections is a long day, particularly with elderly members in the group, and arriving at Kollur after dark means the Shringeri to Kollur leg is driven on a narrow unlit forest road. Shringeri makes an excellent overnight halt and lets you take the Sharada Peetham unhurried in the morning. Hassan is the alternative if you want the halt earlier. Groups that do drive through should leave Bangalore by 4:30 AM.
Tempo traveller fare starts around Rs 22,500. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
No. Kollur is in Udupi district in Karnataka, and both routes stay within the state, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. That makes this trip cheaper to run than a comparable distance into Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. A permit becomes relevant only if you extend into Goa from Gokarna or into Kerala from the coastal side.
October to February is the most comfortable window, with the monsoon past and the Ghat roads at their best. Navaratri in Ashwina is the biggest festival and the busiest period by a wide margin, and Vijayadashami draws very large numbers of families for Vidyarambham. The Rathotsava falls in Phalguna, around March. If your trip is specifically for Vidyarambham, book the vehicle and your Kollur accommodation months ahead. If you want an unhurried darshan, avoid those dates entirely.
Yes, and this is how most groups book it. Three nights is a realistic minimum. A workable four-day plan is Bangalore to Shringeri on day one with Belur and Horanadu on the way; Shringeri to Kollur on day two with darshan in the evening; Kollur, Maravanthe, Udupi and Anegudde on day three; and Murudeshwar with the return by the Shivamogga road on day four. Share your day-wise plan at enquiry and we will tell you what fits in the days you actually have.
You can visit, but the vehicle cannot take you to the top. Private vehicles are not permitted on the final forest stretch, so groups transfer to local jeeps at the base, and those charges are paid directly at the site rather than through us. For a party of fifteen that means several jeeps and some waiting, so it needs to be planned rather than decided on the morning. The full trek on foot takes most of a day and suits a fit group. Your driver will take you as far as vehicles are allowed and wait.
Our fleet covers 9, 12, 14, 17 and 18 seater tempo travellers in AC and non-AC. Under eight passengers, an Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross or Fortuner is usually more economical. Above eighteen we move you to a 12 to 24 seater mini bus. We would not recommend a full coach on the Shringeri to Kollur road, which is narrow with long forest stretches. We recommend a size based on your headcount and luggage when you enquire, and luggage matters more than usual on a four-day circuit.
Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, and between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent. Multi-day circuits and the Navaratri, Vijayadashami and Rathotsava dates need a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund, and a ghat road closed by landslide is treated as force majeure with a full refund. On insurance, Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com. Our outstation tempo traveller bangalore enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
