Places to Visit in Srirangapatna

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

The town takes its name from this temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Ranganatha, believed to have been originally built by the Ganga dynasty chieftain Tirumalaiah around 894 AD and expanded over successive centuries. Sitting inside the old fort walls on the banks of the Kaveri, the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest and most actively worshipped temples in the region, with a tall gopura visible from most points in town. Morning darshan draws a steady stream of pilgrims rather than a rush, so visits before ten in the morning tend to be the most peaceful, and photography is generally permitted in the outer courtyards though not inside the main sanctum.

Morning darshan draws a steady stream of pilgrims rather than a rush, so visits before ten in the morning tend to be the most peaceful, and photography is generally permitted in the outer courtyards though not inside the main sanctum.

Srirangapatna Fort

Srirangapatna Fort

Originally built by Kempe Gowda in 1537 and later fortified extensively by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, Srirangapatna Fort occupies the entire island formed by two branches of the Kaveri River and was the site of the decisive 1799 battle in which Tipu Sultan was killed defending his capital. Sections of the ramparts, water gates, and a few cannons still stand, and a quiet obelisk inside the fort marks the spot where British forces breached the walls. Walking the fort perimeter takes about an hour and gives a clear sense of how the natural river moat once made this one of the most defensible strongholds in South India.

Daria Daulat Bagh (Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace)

Daria Daulat Bagh (Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace)

Built entirely in teak wood in 1784, Daria Daulat Bagh was Tipu Sultan's summer residence and is now a museum housing his personal memorabilia, including weapons, coins, and detailed wall murals depicting his military campaigns and the courts of contemporaries such as the rulers of Tanjore and Chittor. The Indo-Islamic architecture, with its scalloped arches and painted ceilings, has been carefully preserved, and the surrounding garden with clipped hedges makes for a pleasant walk after the museum visit. Photography inside the palace is restricted, but the exterior and gardens are freely photographable, and the whole visit typically takes forty five minutes to an hour.

Gumbaz

Gumbaz

A short drive from Daria Daulat Bagh, the Gumbaz is the domed mausoleum built by Tipu Sultan for his father Hyder Ali, and it later became his own resting place along with his mother, Fakr-Un-Nisa. The onion shaped dome and the ivory inlaid doors, a gift from the Nizam of Hyderabad, mark this as one of the finer examples of Islamic funerary architecture in Karnataka, and the surrounding avenue of cypress trees adds a solemn, formal quality to the approach. Nearby, the smaller sites of Dodda Gosai Ghat and Sangam sit along the riverbank and are worth combining into the same short visit if time allows.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Just three kilometres from the main town, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is Karnataka's largest bird sanctuary, spread across a cluster of small islets in the Kaveri formed by an embankment built in 1648. Boat rides through the sanctuary are the main draw, bringing visitors close to painted storks, herons, cormorants, and, during the breeding season between June and November, large nesting colonies that turn entire trees white with birds. Marsh crocodiles also bask along the banks, giving the ride an added layer of interest, and morning slots between seven and nine tend to have the calmest water and the most active bird movement.

Jama Masjid (Masjid-e-Ala)

Jama Masjid (Masjid-e-Ala)

Located inside the fort complex, the Jama Masjid, also called Masjid-e-Ala, was where Tipu Sultan practised his own faith and remains an active mosque to this day. Its twin minarets and Arabic inscriptions running along the facade are the defining architectural features, and the elevated position within the fort gives a good view over the surrounding ramparts. The mosque is a working place of worship, so visiting outside prayer times and dressing modestly is appreciated, and entry for non-worshippers is generally permitted in the outer courtyard.

Colonel Bailey's Dungeon

Colonel Bailey's Dungeon

This partly underground structure was reportedly used to hold British prisoners of war, including Colonel Bailey, during the Anglo-Mysore Wars, and the low stone chambers and narrow passages give a stark, atmospheric sense of the conditions captives were kept in. The site is smaller and less crowded than the main palace and temple stops, which makes it an easy add-on for travellers with an interest in the military history of the period, and it sits within easy walking distance of the fort's main gate.

Balmuri and Sangam Falls

Balmuri and Sangam Falls

A short drive from the town centre, Balmuri Falls is a small step waterfall on the Kaveri that has become a popular local picnic spot, especially on weekends when families gather along the rocks for a swim or a packed lunch. Nearby, Sangam marks the point where two branches of the river rejoin after circling the island, and the calmer water here suits boating and photography rather than swimming. Both spots are best visited on weekday mornings if a quieter experience is preferred, since weekend afternoons draw significant crowds from both Bangalore and Mysore.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Srirangapatna Route

Four package structures covering the same 125 kilometre route, differing in vehicle class, schedule and billing format.

Corporate Package

Built for half-day and full-day team outings from Manyata, Whitefield, Electronic City and Bagmane tech parks, and for client and visitor itineraries where a heritage day out is easier to arrange than an overnight offsite. GST invoice against your PO, Proforma Invoice at quote stage, 30-day credit terms for registered accounts, and consolidated monthly billing. Executive-class 17 or 20 seater units with charging points at every row, a driver who reports to your designated coordinator, and multi-vehicle convoys for headcounts above 26. For requirements beyond a single trip, our corporate travels division handles annual contracts on the same fleet.

Family and Temple Group Package

For extended families and darshan groups of ten to eighteen covering Ranganathaswamy, Nimishamba and Paschima Vahini. Wide-door 14 seater with lower step height, flexible halt timing so elderly members are not rushed between the temple and the palace, and an itinerary built around darshan and Rahu Kalam timings rather than a fixed clock. Drop-and-collect at the temple gates where parking is tight. This is the most-booked bangalore to srirangapatna tempo traveller package we run.

Budget and School Excursion Package

For school and college excursions, history departments and student groups where the per-head number decides whether the trip happens. Standard AC 12 or 17 seater, efficient single-day format, and value-for-money meal halts at Bidadi or Maddur. Filling the vehicle is what makes this work. For institutions we supply the documentation, driver verification and attendance-friendly seat manifest that school excursion approvals require, through our school transportation services division.

Luxury Package

Maharaja-configuration tempo traveller with recliner seats, reading lights, LED entertainment, curtains and a cooler box. On a route this short the upgrade is less about endurance and more about occasion — visiting delegations, wedding guest sightseeing between functions, and senior family groups. To go a step further, the Force Urbania with its higher roof and premium cabin is the natural upgrade.

Our Services from Bangalore and Mysore

Tejas Tours and Travels operates a full ground-transport fleet out of both Bengaluru and Mysuru. Every service listed here is available on the Srirangapatna corridor and on every other route we cover. Our Mysuru base is only 16 kilometres from Srirangapatna, which means short-notice vehicle support on this route is straightforward.

For smaller parties, our premium car rentals in Bangalore cover sedans, SUVs and luxury cars for four to six passengers, and the Innova Hycross is our most requested seven seater for family day trips. For groups of nine to twenty-six, the tempo traveller rent Bangalore fleet is the core of what we do, with the Force Urbania rent Bangalore range covering luxury van requirements.

Larger groups move to our mini bus in Bangalore fleet for 21 to 35 passengers, or to full-size bus rental in Bangalore for 35 to 55 — the format most school excursions to Srirangapatna use. For premium group travel we operate a dedicated Volvo luxury bus fleet with pushback seating and onboard entertainment.

Beyond leisure travel, we run corporate travels Bangalore contracts for IT and manufacturing clients, airport transfer Bangalore services with live flight tracking for Kempegowda airport taxi pickups, and structured employee transportation services Bangalore covering night shift cab service and tech park routes.

Our outstation cabs Bangalore division handles every long-distance vehicle booking, and our wedding car rental Bangalore service supplies decorated cars and guest-transport buses for functions across Karnataka — including the Srirangapatna and Mysuru venues that Bengaluru families increasingly choose. Tour packages for Srirangapatna, Mysore, Coorg, Ooty and the wider South India circuit are available on request from both our Bengaluru and Mysuru operating bases.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Hire in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•      Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•      Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle.

•      For Srirangapatna, tell us whether you want the expressway both ways or the service road with Channapatna and Maddur stops, and whether Ranganathittu or Mysore is being added, since both affect the day plan.

•      For school excursions, share the institution name, student and staff count and any documentation your approval process requires.

•      For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•      For luxury vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•      Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•      The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs per km or flat package), driver allowance, applicable toll estimates including the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway toll, and any interstate permit if applicable. Srirangapatna is entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit applies on this route.

•      No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•      For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•      If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•      Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•      A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.

•      Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•      Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•      Confirmation includes driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing.

•      Demand peaks around Dasara, the school excursion season from November to February, and long weekends. Book ahead for those windows.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•      Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•      For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•      The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready.

•      For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire.

•      The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•      During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments and traffic navigation, and manages drop-and-collect at the temple and monument gates where parking is restricted.

•      At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods — Tempo Traveller Hire in Bangalore

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance booking and the final settlement at trip end.

•      UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI, Amazon Pay. Fastest method with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•      Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS or RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 5,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•      Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.

•      Net banking — All major Indian banks, through a payment link on WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate PO-based approvals and for school and college institutional payments.

•      Cash — Balance accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation. Receipt issued.

•      Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed Bangalore corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

For premium and luxury vehicles, a higher advance may be required given limited Bangalore fleet availability and wedding season demand.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Srirangapatna Tempo Traveller

The road distance is 125 kilometres via the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway on NH275. Allow 2 to 2 hours 30 minutes on the expressway including a comfort halt, or 3 to 3 hours 30 minutes if you take the service road route with stops at Bidadi, Channapatna and Maddur. Leaving Bengaluru by 6:30 am makes a real difference on weekends.

Comfortably. A 6:30 am departure gets you to the Ranganathaswamy temple by around 9 am, and the fort, Summer Palace, Gumbaz and Bailey Dungeon all sit within a couple of kilometres of each other. Add Ranganathittu and Nimishamba and you are still back in Bengaluru by early evening. Adding Mysore as well makes for a long but manageable day.

A 12 seater AC tempo traveller starts at Rs 8,000. Toll, parking and GST are billed separately, and the final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage. Send us your date and group size on WhatsApp for an itemized quote within two hours.

The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, interstate tax where applicable, driver bata after 9:45 pm and GST are charged separately. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours calculated garage to garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels.

Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance. The advance can be paid by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card via payment link, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance.

Our usual recommendation is one of each. The expressway outbound gets you to the monuments early and ahead of the crowds. The service road on the return lets you stop at Channapatna for toys and Maddur for vade, which the expressway bypasses entirely. Tell your driver at pickup and the day is planned around your choice.

Yes, and most groups do. Mysore is 16 kilometres further and Ranganathittu is 3 kilometres off the same road, so both add distance rather than a detour. Ranganathittu needs about 90 minutes including the boat ride. If you want Mysore Palace and Brindavan Gardens too, we would suggest an overnight rather than squeezing it into one day.

Yes, it is one of our highest-volume school routes. We provide the driver verification, vehicle documentation and seat manifest that institutional approvals generally require, and can supply multiple vehicles or a mini bus for larger batches. Share your student and staff count and we will match the fleet to it.

We operate 12 to 18 seater tempo travellers in Standard AC, Executive and Maharaja luxury configurations. For groups above 26 we move you to our mini bus or full-size bus fleet. Note that the Karighatta hill road is narrow and steep, so a 12 or 14 seater suits that particular stop better than the largest vehicles.

Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Charges then step up: 10 per cent at 48 to 72 hours, 25 per cent at 24 to 48 hours, 50 per cent at 12 to 24 hours and 75 per cent under 12 hours. School excursions postponed rather than cancelled are carried forward at no penalty. If Tejas Travels cancels for any operational reason, you get a full refund within 2 working days or a substitute vehicle.
