Places to Visit in Yercaud

Yercaud Lake and Anna Park

Yercaud Lake and Anna Park

The lake at the centre of town is the reason Yercaud is called what it is - yeri and kaadu, lake and forest - and it is the hub around which everything else sits. Pedal and rowing boats operate on it, the surrounding walkway is where the town gathers in the evening, and Anna Park beside it is a small landscaped garden with a Japanese-style section and a greenhouse. Visit in the late afternoon. It is not a spectacular lake by hill-station standards and visitors who arrive expecting Ooty are sometimes underwhelmed, but as the centre of a small quiet town it works exactly as it should, and everything in Yercaud is measured in distance from it.

Lady Seat, Gent Seat and Children Seat

Lady Seat, Gent Seat and Children Seat

A cluster of viewpoints on the western edge of the plateau, looking down over the ghat road and out across the plains to Salem. Lady Seat takes its name from an Englishwoman who reportedly came here every evening during the colonial period, and there is a small observatory with a telescope alongside. Visit at sunset, and if you can, stay past dark - the lights of Salem coming on across the plain below is the sight people remember from Yercaud, and it is genuinely striking. The three seats are within a few minutes of each other and the whole stop takes under an hour.

Pagoda Point

Pagoda Point

On the eastern side of the plateau, Pagoda Point takes its name from stone cairns stacked in pagoda form by earlier visitors, with a Rama temple now on the site. It looks out over a different valley from the Lady Seat viewpoints - deeper, greener and with the Servarayan range behind. Visit at sunrise if you can manage it, since this side catches the early light and the valley mist below is at its best in the first hour. It is around five kilometres from the lake on good road, and it is the counterpart to Lady Seat rather than a repeat of it.

Servarayan Temple

Servarayan Temple

At around 5,325 feet, the Servarayan temple marks the highest point in the Shevaroy Hills and gives the range its name. The shrine itself is a small cave temple dedicated to Servarayan and Kaveri, reached by a short walk from the parking area, and it is a low-key place rather than a grand one. The reason to go is the view, which on a clear morning takes in the whole plateau and a long way beyond. Visit early, before the cloud builds. The approach road passes through coffee estate country and is one of the more attractive short drives in the district.

Kiliyur Falls

Kiliyur Falls

The waterfall drops around ninety metres into the valley below the plateau, fed by the overflow from Yercaud Lake, and it is reached by a path and a flight of steps down from the road - a walk of twenty to thirty minutes each way that is steeper coming back than going down. Visit between July and December when there is genuine water; outside that window it reduces considerably and the walk is not worth it. Footwear matters here, the steps get slippery after rain, and the path is not suitable for anyone unsteady. It is the one attraction in Yercaud that asks something of you.

The Loop Road and the Coffee Estates

The Loop Road and the Coffee Estates

Yercaud has been coffee country since the British planted it in the nineteenth century, and the plateau is covered in coffee under silver oak shade alongside orange, pepper, jackfruit and banana. The thirty-kilometre Loop Road circles the plateau through this country and through small settlements and forest, and it is the best thing to do in Yercaud that is not a viewpoint. Several estates offer plantation walks and stays. Visit in April if you can, when the coffee flowers and the whole plateau smells of it. Bear Cave, Rose Garden and Montfort School - a well-known boarding school in an old colonial building - all sit along or near the loop.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Yercaud Route

Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, how many nights you are out and which departure pattern suits, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the five shapes below.

Family Package

Extended families taking a short hill break, usually two days and one night. A 12 or 13 seater covers most; larger gatherings move to the 17 or 18 seater. The planning conversation is about which stops the whole group can do together, because Killiyur Falls involves a few hundred steps down and back at altitude and it does not suit everyone. Where a family is mixed in ability we plan a split morning: some take the falls, the rest take Pagoda Point and the lake, and everyone reconvenes at Anna Park. Drivers on family bookings are chosen for patience with the extended halts a plateau day involves.

Weekend and Friends Group Package

The dominant booking on this route. Friends groups, college parties and office teams doing the Friday evening departure and a full Saturday and Sunday on the plateau. The 17 and 18 seater variants suit these bookings and the per-head figure is the lowest of anything we run to a hill station. Two practical points we build in as standard: the late departure means the driver bata clause applies and we quote it upfront, and the vehicle stays with the group across the weekend rather than dropping and leaving, which is what makes the estate roads, Bear’s Cave and the sunrise run to Pagoda Point actually possible.

Budget Package

For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible per-head figure. At 230 kilometres each way with no long-haul commitment, this is one of the cheapest hill stations we serve, and split across twelve or thirteen passengers a two-day return works out well below the equivalent in separate cabs. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a tight itinerary of the lake, the viewpoints and one falls or estate stop. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers, and on a road with twenty hairpins that matters.

Corporate Package

For team offsites, which Yercaud suits unusually well: it is close, it is cheap, the resorts take whole groups, and there is enough to do without anyone having to organise it. The 17 and 18 seater variants take a full team, and for larger groups we run two vehicles on one schedule. Documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles ongoing requirements and our outstation tempo traveller bangalore team builds the itinerary.

Luxury Package

For senior family groups, guest hosting and anyone who wants the ghat to be comfortable rather than merely survivable. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania. On this route the value is specific rather than decorative: the smaller premium variants are the easiest vehicles in the fleet on twenty hairpin bends, so the comfort upgrade and the best ride on the climb happen to be the same choice.

Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment

Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.

Included in the quoted fare

•     Base fare and fuel charges

•     Driver allowance

Not included in the quoted fare

•     Toll and parking charges

•     Interstate tax and permit charges

•     Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra

•     Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage

•     GST

Three points are specific to this route. First, the Tamil Nadu interstate permit is required from the Attibele border onward, quoted as a separate line at actual and arranged in advance so nothing is held up at the checkpost. Permit charges scale with seating capacity, so an 18 seater carries a higher figure than a 12 seater and we quote it before you choose the vehicle rather than after. Second, the driver bata clause after 9:45 PM applies as normal, and on this route it applies to most bookings rather than a few, because the Friday evening departure that friends groups prefer arrives on the plateau well after that hour. We state it in the written quote at the outset. Third, boating charges at the lake, entry fees at the botanical garden and any estate visit arrangement are paid locally and sit outside the vehicle fare.

Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. For college and institutional groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and is often required by the institution in any case, and on a route with a ghat climb and a falls descent we recommend it more strongly than on ordinary highway trips. We also do not operate sleeper coaches; the fleet on this route is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•     Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

•     Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala and the KIA airport are all routine.

•     Share your resort or homestay name in Yercaud, the number of passengers, and your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC. Several of the better properties sit out on the estate roads and the last stretch to them can be narrow, so the name matters.

•     Tell us whether you want the Friday evening departure or a Saturday morning start, since the two are quoted differently.

•     For corporate bookings, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format. For premium vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding or VIP event — so the team can allocate the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•     Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.

•     The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, the Tamil Nadu interstate permit as its own line, any late-night bata, and GST.

•     No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•     For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•     If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time. Permit charges differ between them, so ask for both figures.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

•     Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

•     A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date.

•     Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

•     The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•     Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

•     For long weekends, the May summer festival, New Year and the December to January peak, book well ahead since fleet availability tightens quickly on a weekend route.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•     Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.

•     For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•     The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

•     The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•     During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the border checkpost and the ghat climb.

•     At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, Yercaud property name and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

•     UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•     Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•     Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.

•     Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.

•     Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

•     Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your date. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

•     More than 72 hours before departure — no cancellation charge. 100 percent of the advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

•     48 to 72 hours before departure — 10 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 10 percent deduction.

•     24 to 48 hours before departure — 25 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 25 percent deduction.

•     12 to 24 hours before departure — 50 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 50 percent deduction.

•     Less than 12 hours before departure — 75 percent of the total trip fare. Minimal or no refund, depending on the value of the trip.

•     No-show, where the vehicle has been deployed and the group is absent — 100 percent of the total trip fare. No refund; the full fare is payable.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels, for breakdown or force majeure — no charge. 100 percent refunded within 2 working days, or an alternate vehicle offered at the same rate.

Special cancellation conditions

•     Weekend and long-weekend bookings: on a route where demand is concentrated into Friday and Saturday, a minimum 48-hour notice is required for a full refund. Less than 24 hours is non-refundable.

•     Peak dates — the May summer festival, New Year, Diwali and the December to January season: minimum 48-hour notice for a full refund.

•     Multi-day and institutional bookings: for trips booked more than 7 days ahead, a minimum 5-day notice is required for a full refund.

•     Force majeure — heavy rain, landslides or closures on the ghat road, bandhs or government restrictions: 100 percent refund within 2 working days regardless of notice period.

•     Modifications to date, seating or route with more than 24 hours notice: accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability. Note that a seating change may alter the permit charge.

How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

Refund Policy

All refunds are processed to the original payment instrument used for the advance. No cash refund is issued unless the advance was paid in cash.

•     Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 48 to 72 hours before departure: advance minus the 10 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 24 to 48 hours before departure: advance minus the 25 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 12 to 24 hours before departure: advance minus the 50 percent charge, in 7 to 10 working days.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels for operational reasons: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 2 working days on priority processing.

•     Trip shortfall where actual kilometres fall below the minimum: proportional credit on the excess, settled at trip end against the final balance.

•     Billing error or overcharge: the full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

•     Duplicate payment: the full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Refund by payment method

•     UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm): refunded to the UPI-linked bank account within 3 to 5 working days.

•     Credit or debit card: refunded to the originating card within 5 to 7 working days.

•     Bank transfer: refunded to the originating account within 3 to 5 working days, with account details re-confirmed before processing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Yercaud Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to yercaud distance is around 230 km via NH 44 through Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem, then twenty-two kilometres up the ghat road from Salem. A loaded tempo traveller takes 5 to 5 hours 30 minutes, of which roughly an hour is the climb itself. Figures published elsewhere range from 225 to 240 km depending on which line is measured and which Bangalore starting point is used. The highway portion is fast six-lane running for almost its entire length.

This is the question worth asking on this route. All our variants make the climb, but the 12 and 13 seaters take it comfortably and the 17 and 18 seaters take it more slowly, so we build the extra time into the schedule rather than pretending the difference does not exist. For eight to thirteen passengers the smaller variant is both the better value and the better ride here. For fourteen to eighteen the larger vehicle is still the right call, just with a longer allowance for the ghat. Beyond eighteen we would move you to a mini bus rental in bangalore vehicle rather than running two tempo travellers.

A 12 seater on a two-day return starts from around Rs 11,750, calculated garage to garage with fuel included. Three-day itineraries and trips adding Hogenakkal on the return are quoted on the day-wise plan with a per-day kilometre allowance. Driver allowance, tolls, the Tamil Nadu permit, any late-night bata and GST are billed separately and itemized in the written quote you receive within two hours.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes. Boating at the lake, botanical garden entry and any estate visit arrangement are paid locally and sit outside the fare.

Yes to the permit. Yercaud is in Salem district, so a Tamil Nadu interstate permit is required from the Attibele border onward. We arrange it in advance and show it as a separate line at actual, so there is no waiting at the checkpost, and the charge scales with seating capacity, which is worth knowing when you compare vehicle sizes. On the bata, it depends on your departure pattern: a Friday evening start after work reaches the plateau well after 9:45 PM and the clause applies, and we say so in the written quote at the outset rather than adding it at settlement. A Saturday morning start usually avoids it entirely.

A day trip is possible but we would not recommend it for a group. Five hours each way plus the ghat leaves perhaps four usable hours on the plateau, which covers the lake and one viewpoint and nothing else, and it puts the return climb down at the end of a very long day. One night is the minimum that makes the trip worth the drive, and two nights is what most friends groups book. The Friday evening departure is the efficient version: you lose no working day and you get a full Saturday and Sunday on the hill.

Everything on the plateau sits within about fifteen kilometres of the lake, so the vehicle stays with the group throughout and the driving between stops is short. Parking is the constraint rather than distance. The lake and Anna Park have space for a large vehicle; Lady’s Seat and the other viewpoints have much less and they fill on weekend evenings, so we plan to arrive ahead of the crowd and the driver drops the group and repositions rather than circling. The last stretch to some estate-road properties is narrow, which is why we ask for the property name at booking.

Harder than most people expect. Reaching the base means a descent of a few hundred steps and a walk on uneven ground, and everything you go down you climb back up at around 1,500 metres. For a friends or college group it is the best thing on the plateau and well worth it. For a group with elderly members or young children we would suggest splitting: the falls party goes down while everyone else takes Pagoda Point and the lake, which are ten minutes away. The falls are strongest from roughly July to January and thin considerably by March.

No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently; for college and institutional groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper bus services, which groups sometimes ask about for the overnight departure. The fleet is seated throughout: 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers, 12 to 24 seater minibuses, 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches, 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania, and 4 to 7 seater cars.

October to February is the window most people prefer: cool, clear enough for the viewpoints to give you something, and comfortable on the plateau. The May summer festival brings boat races, flower and dog shows and large crowds, which is either the reason to go or the reason to avoid those dates depending on your group. July to January is when Killiyur Falls is at its strongest. March to May is warm by plateau standards though still far cooler than Bangalore, and the mist that sits on these hills for much of the year is part of what people come for rather than a problem to plan around.
