Places to Visit in Chamarajanagar

BR Hills and the Biligiriranga Temple

BR Hills and the Biligiriranga Temple

The Biligiriranga Hills rise to around 1,800 metres and form the BRT Tiger Reserve, a biologically significant range because it forms the bridge between the Western and Eastern Ghats. At the top stands the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy temple, a hill shrine with a long association with the Soliga community who have lived in these forests for generations. Nearby is Dodda Sampige Mara, an enormous ancient champak tree revered by the Soligas and estimated to be many centuries old. Visit for the combination of forest, temple and genuine remoteness. The approach is a winding ghat road through the reserve, and safari slots are booked separately through the forest department.

The approach is a winding ghat road through the reserve, and safari slots are booked separately through the forest department.

Male Mahadeshwara Hills

Male Mahadeshwara Hills

MM Hills, around 130 kilometres from Mysore in the eastern part of the district, is one of the most significant Shaiva pilgrimage centres in southern Karnataka, drawing very large numbers of devotees particularly during festivals. The temple is dedicated to Male Mahadeshwara, a saint venerated as an incarnation of Shiva, and the oral epic sung in his honour is a major tradition in Kannada folk literature. The approach is the memorable part: seventy-seven hairpin bends climbing through the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary. Visit early. The road is narrow, the forest stretch has wildlife, and it is not somewhere to be driving after dark.

Bandipur National Park

Bandipur National Park

Among the best-known tiger reserves in India, covering over 870 square kilometres largely within this district and forming part of the wider Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve alongside Nagarhole, Mudumalai and Wayanad. Elephants, gaur, sambar, chital, sloth bear and leopard are regularly seen; tigers less so, as always. Safaris run in fixed morning and afternoon slots operated by the forest department and Jungle Lodges. Visit between October and May, with the drier months often better for sightings as animals concentrate near water. Remember the night traffic closure on the highway through the reserve when planning your arrival and departure.

Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta

Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta

The highest point in the Bandipur range at around 1,450 metres, crowned by a fourteenth-century Venugopalaswamy temple and almost permanently wrapped in mist - Himavad means mist-covered, and the hill earns the name. The view from the summit across the Bandipur forest is among the finest in the state, and elephant herds are frequently seen on the slopes. Visit in the morning. Private vehicles stop at the forest check post and the last stretch is by forest department bus, visiting hours are restricted to roughly 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and cameras and plastic items are often not permitted at the temple, so leave them in the car.

Bharachukki Falls

Bharachukki Falls

The Cauvery divides at Shivanasamudra into two falls - Gaganachukki on the Mandya side and Bharachukki on the Chamarajanagar side - and Bharachukki is the broader of the two, dropping in a wide curtain across a rock face with a viewpoint and steps down toward the base. Coracle rides operate below when water levels permit. Visit between August and January, when the flow is genuinely spectacular; by March it thins considerably. Access and coracle operation depend on water levels and are periodically restricted for safety, so confirm close to your travel date. It sits on the Kanakapura route and works well as a stop rather than a destination.

Chamarajeshwara Temple and the Town

Chamarajeshwara Temple and the Town

The town itself is a working district headquarters rather than a tourist centre, but the Chamarajeshwara temple at its heart is worth the half hour. Built in the early nineteenth century under Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in Dravidian style, it commemorates his father Chamaraja Wodeyar, after whom the town is named, and the ruler was born here. The town is also the practical base for the district - fuel, ATMs, pharmacies and food - and anyone heading onward to MM Hills or BR Hills should treat it as the last proper service stop, because the forest roads beyond have very little.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Chamarajanagar Route

Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, itinerary and how many nights you are out, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the four shapes below.

Family and Pilgrimage Package

The dominant booking type. Extended families running the MM Hills or Nanjangud darshan, and groups combining a temple visit with two days of forest. A 12 or 13 seater covers most; larger gatherings move to the 17 or 18 seater. The planning conversation on every one of these is about sequencing, because the gate hours at BR Hills, the overnight closure through Bandipur and the safari slots have to be fitted together before you leave rather than negotiated on the day. Where a group includes elderly passengers we usually recommend basing in one place for two nights instead of moving the luggage every morning, and the driver stays with the group throughout.

Budget Package

For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible figure. Split across twelve or thirteen passengers, a same-day return to Chamarajanagar and Nanjangud works out cheaper per head than almost any other southern Karnataka destination, since the whole run is expressway and the vehicle is never idle for long. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a tight itinerary, town and temple rather than the full forest circuit. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers.

Corporate Package

For team offsites and client hosting where a forest lodge makes a better impression than a city hotel. The 17 and 18 seater variants are the usual choice, and for larger teams we run two vehicles on one schedule. Documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. For corporate groups the two-night BR Hills or Bandipur shape works better than a day trip, since safari timings mean an early morning and a late evening at both ends. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles ongoing requirements and our outstation tempo traveller bangalore team builds the itinerary.

Luxury Package

For senior family groups, guest hosting and anyone spending three or four days on the circuit. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania. The value on this route is specific: on a circuit that includes the MM Hills hairpins and the climb to Gopalaswamy Betta, the difference between a standard seat and a proper recliner shows up in how the group feels by the third day rather than the first hour.

Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment

Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.

Included in the quoted fare

•     Base fare and fuel charges

•     Driver allowance

Not included in the quoted fare

•     Toll and parking charges

•     Interstate tax and permit charges

•     Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra

•     Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage

•     GST

Three points are specific to this route. Forest entry fees, vehicle entry charges at the Bandipur and BRT gates, safari tickets and any temple donation are paid locally and sit outside the vehicle fare entirely; we will tell you the expected order of cost, but they are not ours to bill. Chamarajanagar is inside Karnataka, so no interstate permit arises unless your itinerary continues to Ooty or Wayanad, in which case Tamil Nadu or Kerala permit charges are quoted upfront. And because the highway through Bandipur closes overnight, a plan that runs late on the far side of the reserve forces either an early cut-off or a night halt, which we flag in the written quote rather than at settlement.

Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. We also do not operate sleeper coaches; the fleet on this route is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•     Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

•     Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala and the KIA airport are all routine.

•     Share the destination or the full day-wise itinerary, the number of passengers, and your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC.

•     For airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•     For corporate bookings, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format. For premium vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding or VIP event — so the team can allocate the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•     Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.

•     The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, any interstate permit where the route requires one, and GST.

•     No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•     For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•     If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

•     Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

•     A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date.

•     Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

•     The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•     Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

•     For peak dates — New Year, Diwali, Dasara, long weekends and the summer safari season — book well ahead, since fleet availability tightens quickly.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•     Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.

•     For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•     The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

•     The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•     During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, forest gate timings and traffic navigation.

•     At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

•     UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•     Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•     Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.

•     Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.

•     Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

•     Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your date. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

•     More than 72 hours before departure — no cancellation charge. 100 percent of the advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

•     48 to 72 hours before departure — 10 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 10 percent deduction.

•     24 to 48 hours before departure — 25 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 25 percent deduction.

•     12 to 24 hours before departure — 50 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 50 percent deduction.

•     Less than 12 hours before departure — 75 percent of the total trip fare. Minimal or no refund, depending on the value of the trip.

•     No-show, where the vehicle has been deployed and the group is absent — 100 percent of the total trip fare. No refund; the full fare is payable.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels, for breakdown or force majeure — no charge. 100 percent refunded within 2 working days, or an alternate vehicle offered at the same rate.

Special cancellation conditions

•     Multi-day outstation bookings: for trips booked more than 7 days ahead, a minimum 5-day notice is required for a full refund.

•     Wedding function bookings: minimum 7-day notice for a full refund. Cancellations within 3 days of the wedding date are non-refundable.

•     Modifications to date, seating or route with more than 24 hours notice: accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability.

How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

Refund Policy

All refunds are processed to the original payment instrument used for the advance. No cash refund is issued unless the advance was paid in cash.

•     Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 48 to 72 hours before departure: advance minus the 10 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 12 to 24 hours before departure: advance minus the 50 percent charge, in 7 to 10 working days.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels for operational reasons: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 2 working days on priority processing.

•     Trip shortfall where actual kilometres fall below the minimum: proportional credit on the excess, settled at trip end against the final balance.

•     Billing error or overcharge: the full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

•     Duplicate payment: the full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Refund by payment method

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Chamarajanagar Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to chamarajanagar distance is about 180 km, running on NH 275, the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, through Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur and Mandya, then past Srirangapatna and around Mysore on the ring road to Nanjangud and south to Chamarajanagar. A loaded tempo traveller covers it in 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes with one halt. There is no ghat section and no state border on the drive down; the ghat driving starts only once you turn towards MM Hills or BR Hills.

For eight to thirteen passengers, the 12 or 13 seater at Rs 22 per km is the best value in the fleet and the one most groups take. For fourteen to eighteen, move to the 17 or 18 seater. On a multi-day forest circuit, book one seat more than your headcount, because luggage for three or four days plus camera equipment eats into cabin space faster than people expect. Beyond eighteen passengers we would move you to a mini bus rental in bangalore vehicle rather than running two tempo travellers.

A 12 seater on a same-day return starts from around Rs 11,000 on roughly 360 km, calculated garage to garage with fuel included. Multi-day circuits covering MM Hills, BR Hills and Bandipur are quoted on the day-wise itinerary with a per-day kilometre allowance. Driver allowance, tolls, parking, forest gate charges and GST are billed separately and itemized in the written quote you receive within two hours.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes. Forest entry fees, vehicle entry charges at the Bandipur and BRT gates, safari tickets and temple donations are paid locally and sit outside the fare.

Yes, but not in one day. Those three sit in different directions from Chamarajanagar and each involves a real climb, so a sensible plan is three days and two nights, or two nights with one of the three dropped. MM Hills is roughly 95 to 105 km from the town through forest hairpins, BR Hills about 109 km, and Bandipur is out west past Gundlupet. Our drivers on this corridor sequence them against the gate hours rather than by map distance, which is usually not the order a first-time visitor would pick.

Yes, and it is the rule that shapes most itineraries here. The national highway through the Bandipur reserve is closed to vehicles overnight, and the forest roads to BR Hills, MM Hills and Gopalaswamy Betta all have their own gate hours with entry stopping well before dark. Practically, that means a group heading for Ooty or Wayanad through Gundlupet has to clear the reserve before the evening cut-off or halt on this side of it. We build the day around those timings when we prepare your itinerary, and we will tell you in advance if a plan you have in mind will not fit.

No. Safaris are run in forest department vehicles only, so your hired vehicle drops the group at the safari reception and the driver waits. The same applies at BRT. What the tempo traveller does cover is everything else: the drive to and from the gate, the climb to Gopalaswamy Betta on a permit, the hairpins to MM Hills, and the transfers between lodges. Booking safari slots is done at the gate or online through the forest department, and we can tell you the current timings when you book, though we do not reserve the tickets ourselves.

October to March is the window that works for everything. October and November are green after the monsoon with the Cauvery in full flow, which is also when Bharachukki is at its most impressive. December to February is cool, with the best morning safaris and the heaviest mist at Gopalaswamy Betta and BR Hills. March to May is hot but is prime season for elephant sightings, since water sources inside the forest dry up and animals concentrate. The Gundlupet flower fields follow the planting cycle rather than the tourist calendar, so ask us before fixing a date if that is what you are coming for.

No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently; for school and college groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper bus services. The fleet is seated throughout: 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers, 12 to 24 seater minibuses, 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches, 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania, and 4 to 7 seater cars.

6:00 AM for a straightforward day trip to the town and Nanjangud, and 5:30 AM if Bandipur or Gopalaswamy Betta is on the plan, because both are governed by gate timings that do not move. Multiple pickups are standard on group bookings and are planned into the route so the vehicle collects everyone along a sensible line rather than criss-crossing the city. Groups boarding in Whitefield or Hebbal should allow an extra forty-five minutes to cross town, so we usually suggest a 5:15 AM first pickup for them.
