Gommateshwara Bahubali and Vindhyagiri Hill

Gommateshwara Bahubali and Vindhyagiri Hill

The monolithic statue of Bahubali, commissioned around 981 CE by Chavundaraya, a minister and commander of the Western Ganga dynasty, stands roughly fifty-seven feet tall and is carved from a single block of granite. Bahubali is depicted in kayotsarga, the standing meditation posture, with creepers carved climbing his legs and arms to signify how long he stood unmoving. The face is the thing people remember - it carries an expression of complete detachment that photographs consistently fail to capture. Around the summit enclosure stand further Tirthankara images added under the Hoysalas. Entry is free, photography is generally permitted, and the view back over the town, the Kalyani and Chandragiri opposite is the reward for the climb.

Entry is free, photography is generally permitted, and the view back over the town, the Kalyani and Chandragiri opposite is the reward for the climb.

Chandragiri Hill and the Jain Basadis

Chandragiri Hill and the Jain Basadis

The smaller hill facing Vindhyagiri, and the older of the two in terms of continuous Jain presence. By long tradition the Mauryan emperor Chandragupta Maurya renounced his empire, travelled south as a Jain monk with his teacher Bhadrabahu, and spent his final years here - the hill takes its name from him, and the Chandragupta Basadi commemorates the association. The summit holds a cluster of basadis in Ganga and Hoysala styles, quieter and architecturally richer than anything on the larger hill. The climb is far gentler, at around two hundred steps. Visit it if the group includes anyone who cannot manage Vindhyagiri, and visit it anyway if you have the time - most day-trippers skip it and miss the better half of the site.

Bhandari Basadi and Akkana Basadi

Bhandari Basadi and Akkana Basadi

Two of the significant ground-level temples in the town, both reachable without any climbing at all. Bhandari Basadi, built in the twelfth century under the Hoysalas, holds images of all twenty-four Tirthankaras lined up in a row within the sanctum, which is an unusual and striking arrangement. Akkana Basadi, from 1181 CE, is the finer of the two architecturally, with the lathe-turned Hoysala columns and the precision of surface finish that mark the best work of that period. Together they take around forty-five minutes and they are the answer for anyone in your group staying at ground level while others climb.

The Kalyani and the Bhattaraka Math

The Kalyani and the Bhattaraka Math

The Kalyani is the temple tank sitting between the two hills, and it is the feature the town is named for - Belagola, the white pond. The Bhattaraka Math beside it is the seat of an ancient Digambara Jain monastic lineage whose heads have all borne the name Charukirti, and it holds a collection of manuscripts, palm-leaf texts and painted murals. More than eight hundred inscriptions dating from around 600 CE to 1830 are recorded across the two hills and the town, in Kannada, Sanskrit, Marathi, Tamil and older scripts - which makes Shravanabelagola one of the most important epigraphical sites in India, quite apart from the statue.

Kambadahalli and the Nearby Jain Sites

Kambadahalli and the Nearby Jain Sites

About twenty kilometres from Shravanabelagola near Nagamangala, Kambadahalli holds the Panchakuta Basadi, a tenth-century Jain temple complex in Ganga and Nolamba style with a free-standing pillar and five shrines arranged around a common platform. It is an Archaeological Survey protected monument, it is architecturally significant, and on most days you will have it to yourself. Visit if the group has a genuine interest in Jain architecture and you are not attempting Belur and Halebidu on the same day - the two are alternatives rather than additions, since both need real time.

Belur and Halebidu

Belur and Halebidu

The natural extension, and the reason a great many of our bookings on this route are full-day circuits rather than short trips. Belur, about seventy kilometres beyond Shravanabelagola, holds the Chennakeshava Temple commissioned in 1117 CE and worked on for over a century, with its celebrated bracket figures around the outer wall. Halebidu, sixteen kilometres further, holds the Hoysaleswara Temple with the most densely carved exterior in Indian architecture. Both were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2023. Doing all three sites in one day from Bangalore is a twelve to thirteen hour commitment and needs a 5:30 AM start.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Shravanabelagola Route

Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, itinerary and the age profile of the passengers, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the four shapes below.

Family and Pilgrimage Package

The dominant booking type. Three-generation families travelling for darshan, and Jain pilgrim groups for whom this is a once-in-a-lifetime visit. A 12 or 13 seater covers most; larger gatherings move to the 17 or 18 seater. The planning conversation on every one of these bookings is about the climb, because six hundred and fifty barefoot steps on open granite does not suit everyone and it is better settled before you leave Bangalore than at the base of the hill. Where a group is mixed in ability we plan a split day: some take Vindhyagiri, others Chandragiri or the ground-level basadis, and everybody meets at the Kalyani.

Budget Package

For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible figure for a single-day return. At 145 kilometres each way this is one of the least expensive outstation runs we operate, and split across twelve or thirteen passengers the per-person cost is lower than almost any other heritage destination from Bangalore. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a direct itinerary, Shravanabelagola only. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers.

Corporate Package

For company outings, cultural days and client hosting where a heritage circuit makes a better impression than another resort. The 17 and 18 seater variants are the usual choice, and for larger teams we run two vehicles on one schedule. Documentation is handled up front: GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. For a corporate group we would recommend the full Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu day rather than the short trip, since the drive is easy enough that nobody arrives tired. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles ongoing requirements and our outstation tempo traveller bangalore team builds the itinerary.

Luxury Package

For senior family groups, guest hosting and anyone who wants a thirteen-hour circuit day to be comfortable rather than merely possible. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania. The value here is practical rather than decorative: on a full circuit the vehicle is the air-conditioned room your group returns to after each site, four or five times across the day, and after six hundred and fifty steps in the sun that stops being a luxury.

Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment

Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.

Included in the quoted fare

•     Base fare and fuel charges

•     Driver allowance

Not included in the quoted fare

•     Toll and parking charges

•     Interstate tax and permit charges

•     Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra

•     Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage

•     GST

Two points are specific to this route. Doli charges at the base of Vindhyagiri, along with donations or special darshan arrangements at the site, are paid locally and sit outside the vehicle fare entirely; we will tell you the expected order of cost, but they are not ours to bill. And because Shravanabelagola is inside Karnataka, no interstate permit arises here. Note that a full Belur and Halebidu circuit routinely returns after 9:45 PM, which brings the driver bata clause into play, and we state that in the written quote at the outset rather than adding it at settlement.

Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. We also do not operate sleeper coaches; the fleet on this route is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•     Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

•     Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala and the KIA airport are all routine.

•     Share the destination or the full itinerary, the number of passengers, and your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC.

•     For airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•     For corporate bookings, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format. For premium vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding or VIP event — so the team can allocate the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•     Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.

•     The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, any interstate permit where the route requires one, and GST.

•     No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•     For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•     If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

•     Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

•     A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date.

•     Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

•     The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•     Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

•     For peak dates — New Year, Diwali, Dasara and long weekends — book well ahead, since fleet availability tightens quickly.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•     Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.

•     For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•     The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

•     The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•     During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments and traffic navigation.

•     At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

•     UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•     Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•     Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.

•     Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.

•     Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

•     Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your date. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

•     More than 72 hours before departure — no cancellation charge. 100 percent of the advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

•     48 to 72 hours before departure — 10 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 10 percent deduction.

•     24 to 48 hours before departure — 25 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 25 percent deduction.

•     12 to 24 hours before departure — 50 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 50 percent deduction.

•     Less than 12 hours before departure — 75 percent of the total trip fare. Minimal or no refund, depending on the value of the trip.

•     No-show, where the vehicle has been deployed and the group is absent — 100 percent of the total trip fare. No refund; the full fare is payable.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels, for breakdown or force majeure — no charge. 100 percent refunded within 2 working days, or an alternate vehicle offered at the same rate.

Special cancellation conditions

•     Multi-day outstation bookings: for trips booked more than 7 days ahead, a minimum 5-day notice is required for a full refund.

•     Wedding function bookings: minimum 7-day notice for a full refund. Cancellations within 3 days of the wedding date are non-refundable.

•     Modifications to date, seating or route with more than 24 hours notice: accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability.

How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

•     Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels for operational reasons: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 2 working days on priority processing.

•     Trip shortfall where actual kilometres fall below the minimum: proportional credit on the excess, settled at trip end against the final balance.

•     Billing error or overcharge: the full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

•     Duplicate payment: the full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Shravanabelagola Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to shravanabelagola distance is 145 km via NH 75 through Nelamangala, Kunigal, Yediyur and Hirisave, turning off at Bellur Cross for the final twelve kilometres. A loaded tempo traveller covers it in 3 to 3 hours 30 minutes with one halt. It is comfortable four-lane highway with no ghat section, no interstate border and no notorious bottleneck, which makes it one of the most reliably timed group routes we operate.

For eight to thirteen passengers, the 12 or 13 seater at Rs 22 per km is the best value in the fleet and the one most groups take. For fourteen to eighteen, move to the 17 or 18 seater. Book one seat more than your headcount if the group includes elderly passengers who will want to spread out, or if you are carrying offerings and luggage for a temple visit. Beyond eighteen passengers we would move you to a mini bus rental in bangalore vehicle rather than running two tempo travellers.

A 12 seater on a same-day return starts from around Rs 8,000 on the 300 km minimum, calculated garage to garage with fuel included. Driver allowance, tolls, parking and GST are billed separately and itemized in the written quote you receive within two hours of enquiring.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes. Doli charges at Vindhyagiri and any donations at the site are paid locally and sit outside the fare. Shravanabelagola is inside Karnataka, so no interstate permit arises.

Vindhyagiri rises about 470 feet by rock-cut steps, with published counts varying between roughly 600 and 700 depending on which flight is counted; around 650 is the figure most commonly quoted. Footwear comes off at the base, so the climb is barefoot on stone. Handrails run along much of it and there are gateways to pause at, but there is essentially no shade until the top. A reasonably fit adult takes thirty to forty-five minutes up. Allow two hours for the hill including the summit.

Doli carriers operate at the base and will carry a passenger up for a negotiated fee, but availability is inconsistent and thins in the low season, so do not build the trip around one being there. The better plan is to split the group: some climb Vindhyagiri, others take Chandragiri at around two hundred gentler steps, and anyone staying at ground level has Bhandari Basadi, Akkana Basadi and the Kalyani. This is the specific advantage of a single hired vehicle — the driver waits at the base and the vehicle stays available to whoever needs it.

Yes, with a 5:30 AM departure and a group that can handle a twelve to thirteen hour day. The efficient order is Shravanabelagola first, since it sits before Hassan, then Belur, then Halebidu. Shravanabelagola alone needs two hours including the climb, Belur an hour to ninety minutes and Halebidu about an hour, plus driving between them. If the group includes elderly members we recommend dropping one site rather than rushing all three, or splitting the circuit across an overnight halt in Hassan.

No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently; for school and college groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper bus services. The fleet is seated throughout: 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers, 12 to 24 seater minibuses, 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches, 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania, and 4 to 7 seater cars.

It is the grand anointing ceremony held once every twelve years, in which the Bahubali statue is bathed from a scaffold with milk, curd, ghee, saffron, sandalwood, turmeric, vermilion and flowers. Recorded as having begun in 981 CE, it draws enormous crowds from across India and abroad. The most recent was held in February 2018, placing the next in the 2030 cycle, though dates are set by the Jain math and the state administration. If you plan to attend, accommodation and vehicles both need booking many months ahead.

Between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, and the reason is the climb rather than the traffic. Arriving by 9:00 AM means going up before the granite heats and the sun is overhead; between noon and 4:00 PM a barefoot climb on sun-heated rock is unpleasant, and in April and May unwise. Multiple pickups are standard on group bookings and are planned into the route so the vehicle collects everyone along a sensible line. Groups from Electronic City or Whitefield should allow an extra forty-five minutes, so we usually suggest a 5:00 AM first pickup.
