Places to Visit in Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake is the centrepiece of the hill station and the attraction that almost every visitor sees first. Created artificially in 1863 under British administration, the lake spans around 60 acres in a distinctive star shape and sits at an elevation of about 2,285 metres, surrounded on all sides by forest and the pleasant streets of the town. Boating is the primary activity, with pedal boats, row boats and motor boats available for hire, and the shoreline path of around five kilometres is one of the most popular walks in the region, combining lake views with glimpses into the pine forest on the hillsides above. Cycling around the lake on rented bicycles is another favourite, particularly in the early morning when the mist is still on the water and the traffic is light. The proximity of Kodaikanal Lake to Bryant Park, the market street, and the main accommodation cluster makes it the natural starting point for a day of sightseeing in the town, and it tends to look its best in the late afternoon light when the western sky reflects across the water.

Coaker's Walk

Coaker's Walk

Coaker's Walk is a one-kilometre paved path that runs along the southern edge of Kodaikanal town at the rim of the hillside, built in 1872 by a lieutenant named Coaker and now one of the most popular morning and evening walking spots in the hill station. The path is set into the cliff face and the southern side opens to sheer drops into valleys that extend for kilometres toward the plains of Madurai and Theni, with the plains themselves visible on clear days through telescopes stationed along the walk. The walk is at its most atmospheric in the early morning when cloud fills the valleys below and gives the sensation of being suspended above the world, and in the late afternoon when the plains catch the last of the sunlight. Travellers staying for two or more days typically make this walk a morning ritual, and it connects naturally to Bryant Park at one end and to the main market at the other, making it easy to include in a circuit of the town centre.

Pillar Rocks

Pillar Rocks

Pillar Rocks is one of the most striking natural formations in Kodaikanal, consisting of three massive vertical granite boulders that stand side by side at a height of approximately 122 metres, rising from the forested hillside into the mist that frequently drifts across this part of the Palani Hills. The viewpoint platform provides a clear line of sight to the rocks and across the valley below, and the surrounding garden is well-maintained with benches and flowering plants that make it a comfortable stop for a range of visitors. The mist around the rocks creates a changing visual quality throughout the day: in the morning the rocks emerge from low cloud and the surrounding trees drip with condensation, while in the afternoon, when the mist thins, the full scale of the formations becomes more apparent. Photography here is consistently rewarding regardless of the conditions, and Pillar Rocks is included in almost every Kodaikanal tour package from Bangalore as one of the unmissable viewpoint stops.

Bryant Park

Bryant Park

Bryant Park, located on the eastern shore of Kodaikanal Lake, is a 20-acre botanical garden established in 1908 by the British Collector H. D. Bryant and now one of the most visited attractions in the hill station. The park is home to over 325 species of plants including extensive rose gardens, hybrid flower beds, a greenhouse with tropical species, and ornamental trees that create a pleasant enclosed world inside the garden walls that feels quite separate from the mist and pine outside. The annual horticultural show held every May draws exhibitors and visitors from across Tamil Nadu and is one of the larger garden events in the region, featuring elaborate displays of rare and cultivated flowers. For families travelling on a Bangalore to Kodaikanal car rental booking with children, Bryant Park is a reliable half-morning stop that combines colour, education and enough open lawn for younger visitors to run around in.

Silver Cascade Falls

Silver Cascade Falls

Silver Cascade Falls is typically the first significant attraction that travellers encounter when arriving in Kodaikanal by road, as it sits directly on the Kodai Ghat road approximately eight kilometres below the town, at a point where the overflow from Kodaikanal Lake drops around 55 metres down a rocky face into the valley below. The cascade is named for the silver-white appearance of the falling water against the dark rock, and it is one of the most photographed spots on the entire Bangalore to Kodaikanal route. The roadside viewpoint is easily accessible and requires no walking beyond a few steps from where a cab can pause on the ghat road, making it suitable for all ages. The falls are at their most powerful and visually spectacular during and after the monsoon season when the lake is full, while in summer the flow reduces considerably. Troops of monkeys often congregate on the rocks around the falls and have become part of the visual character of the stop, though visitors should keep food items out of sight.

Dolphin's Nose

Dolphin's Nose

Dolphin's Nose is a flat rock projection extending from the hillside approximately eight kilometres from Kodaikanal town, with the edge of the rock dropping sheer for several hundred metres into the valley on three sides, giving the sensation of standing at the prow of the hill itself when you walk to its tip. The views from this point take in a very wide panorama of the southern slopes of the Palani Hills, the valley below and, on exceptionally clear days, the plains extending toward Theni in the distance. The path to the nose from the nearest parking point is a walk of around one kilometre through shola forest, which is scenic enough to justify the stop even on days when the mist obscures the valley view. Dolphin's Nose is paired naturally with Echo Rock, a short distance further along the same path, where the curve of the rock face creates an echo effect that amuses visitors of all ages. Travellers on a one way cab Bangalore to Kodaikanal staying two or more nights often reserve this for the second morning.

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake is the most secluded and visually striking of the lakes near Kodaikanal, sitting 21 kilometres from town inside a protected forest reserve at around 2,230 metres altitude. Unlike Kodaikanal Lake, which sits in the middle of the town and is accessible to all, Berijam requires a forest department permit obtained in advance and entry is limited to a fixed number of vehicles per day, which gives it a quality of quietness and undisturbed natural beauty that the more popular attractions cannot offer. The lake is surrounded by dense shola forest and grassland and the surrounding area supports a good population of wildlife including spotted deer, gaur and an impressive variety of birds. The drive from Kodaikanal town to Berijam passes through scenic forest roads and several viewpoints that are worth pausing at in their own right. Travellers planning a longer Kodaikanal tour package from Bangalore of three or more days generally include Berijam as the highlight of one full day, often pairing it with Moir Point along the same forest road.

Guna Caves

Guna Caves

Guna Caves, also known locally as Devil's Kitchen, is a series of interconnected natural caverns formed within the rocky hillside below Pillar Rocks, reached by a short walk through pine and shola forest from the road near Pillar Rocks viewpoint. The caves became widely known after the 1993 Tamil film Guna was partly filmed here, and the connection with the film draws visitors alongside those who come for the caves themselves. The interior of the main cavern is notable for the quality of light that filters through gaps in the rock above, and the surrounding forest trail has a pleasant, slightly mysterious character that sets Guna Caves apart from the more open viewpoints in the area. Entry is currently regulated by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and the caves are only accessible when the forest remains open, which can vary by season, so checking current access before planning the visit is advisable. This stop pairs naturally with Pillar Rocks and Bryant Park on a circuit of the southern part of Kodaikanal town.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Kodaikanal Route

Four package structures covering the same 465 kilometre route, differing in vehicle class, schedule and billing format.

Corporate Package

Kodaikanal is a favourite for Bengaluru team offsites and annual outings, and this package is built for it. GST invoice against your PO, Proforma Invoice at quote stage, 30-day credit terms for registered accounts, consolidated monthly billing, and the Tamil Nadu permit and kodaikanal e pass handled entirely by our team so your admin staff do not have to. Executive-class 17 or 20 seater units with charging points at every row, a driver who reports to your designated coordinator, and multi-vehicle convoys for headcounts above 26. For requirements beyond a single trip, our corporate travels division handles annual contracts on the same fleet.

Family Package

For multi-generational groups of ten to eighteen doing Kodai Lake, Coaker Walk, Bryant Park and Pillar Rocks at an unhurried pace. Wide-door 14 seater with lower step height, flexible halt timing so elderly members are not rushed on a nine-hour drive, generous luggage space, and an itinerary that puts the level walks first and the steeper ones second. The three-night, four-day format is what most families choose and it is the most-booked bangalore to kodaikanal tempo traveller package we run.

Budget Package

For student groups, trekking clubs and first-jobber friend circles where the per-head number decides whether the trip happens. Standard AC 12 or 17 seater, efficient three-day format, value-for-money highway meal halts including the Dindigul biryani stop. Filling the vehicle is what makes this work: a fully occupied 17 seater brings the per-person round-trip cost below a private sleeper bus ticket, with the vehicle available to you at Pillar Rocks and Vattakanal.

Luxury Package

Maharaja-configuration tempo traveller with recliner seats, reading lights, LED entertainment, curtains and a cooler box — worth the upgrade on a route where you are seated for nine hours each way. Suited to senior travellers, wedding guest groups heading to Kodaikanal resort venues, and clients booking premium hill properties who want the drive to match. To go a step further, the Force Urbania with its higher roof and premium cabin is the natural upgrade on this route.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Hire in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•      Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•      Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle.

•      For Kodaikanal, also share your hotel or resort address and passenger count, since both are required on the Tamil Nadu e-pass application. Mention if Berijam Lake is on your list so the day can be planned around the forest permit timings.

•      For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•      For luxury vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•      Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•      The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs per km or flat package), driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, and the Tamil Nadu interstate permit, which does apply on the Kodaikanal route for a Karnataka-registered vehicle.

•      No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•      For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•      If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•      Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•      A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.

•      Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•      Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•      Confirmation includes driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing.

•      Once the vehicle is assigned, our team applies for the Tamil Nadu e-pass against that registration number and shares the QR code with you before departure.

•      Kodaikanal peaks hard from April to June and again over Christmas and New Year. Fleet availability tightens weeks ahead of those windows, so book early.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•      Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•      For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•      The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready.

•      For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire.

•      The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•      During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the Tamil Nadu border formalities and the e-pass checkpost near Silver Cascade Falls.

•      At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods — Tempo Traveller Hire in Bangalore

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance booking and the final settlement at trip end.

•      UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI, Amazon Pay. Fastest method with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•      Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS or RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 5,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•      Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.

•      Net banking — All major Indian banks, through a payment link on WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate PO-based approvals.

•      Cash — Balance accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation. Receipt issued.

•      Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed Bangalore corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

For premium and luxury vehicles, a higher advance may be required given limited Bangalore fleet availability and wedding season demand.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kodaikannal Tempo Traveller

The road distance is 465 kilometres via NH44 through Hosur, Krishnagiri, Salem, Karur and Dindigul. In a tempo traveller, allow 8 hours 30 minutes to 10 hours including a breakfast halt, a lunch stop at Dindigul and the ghat climb. The final 40 kilometres from Batlagundu alone takes about 90 minutes.

Yes. Every non-local motor vehicle entering Kodaikanal must carry a valid Tamil Nadu e-pass, applied for free at epass.tnega.org and verified at the checkpost near Silver Cascade Falls. It is tied to the vehicle, not to individual passengers. Once your vehicle is assigned, our team applies for the e-pass on your behalf and sends you the QR code before departure. Rules on Tamil Nadu hill-station entry have changed several times, so we re-confirm the current position before every trip.

Yes. Kodaikanal is in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, so a Karnataka-registered vehicle requires a Tamil Nadu interstate permit. Tejas Travels arranges the permit and itemizes the cost separately in your written quote. The driver handles the formalities at the Hosur border checkpost.

A 12 seater AC tempo traveller starts at Rs 24,000. The Tamil Nadu permit, toll and parking are billed separately. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage. Send us your dates and group size on WhatsApp for an itemized quote within two hours.

The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 pm and GST are charged separately. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours calculated garage to garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels.

Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance. The advance can be paid by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card via payment link, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance.

The road surface is good, but the 40-kilometre climb from Batlagundu has a long series of hairpin bends and frequent fog above 1,500 metres. It is entirely manageable in a well-maintained tempo traveller with a driver who knows the route, which is why we assign drivers to this corridor on hill-road experience. We plan departures so the ghat is climbed in daylight, and passengers prone to motion sickness should take a front row seat.

Three nights and four days is the format that works best, given that two of those days are largely spent driving. Day one is the journey, day two covers the town circuit of Kodai Lake, Coaker Walk, Bryant Park and Pillar Rocks, day three takes in Berijam Lake or Dolphin Nose and Poombarai, and day four is the return. A two-night trip is possible but tight.

We operate 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers in Standard AC, Executive and Maharaja luxury configurations. For groups above 18, we move you to our mini bus or full-size bus fleet, all of which handle the Kodaikanal ghat road. Every vehicle carries valid all-India and interstate permits, GPS and a first-aid kit.

September to March gives the clearest views and the most comfortable touring weather. April to June is peak season, cool and pleasant but heavily crowded, with e-pass checks at their strictest. July and August bring heavy rain, low cloud and slower ghat driving, though the waterfalls are at their best.
