Places to Visit in Srisailam

Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi

Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi

The reason for the journey, and a genuinely rare combination - the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga and the Bhramaramba Shakti Peetha stand within the same walled complex, so a single visit covers one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas. The temple has fortified walls with carved reliefs running around them, some dating to the Vijayanagara period and among the finest stone narrative work in Andhra Pradesh. Visit early morning. Darshan arrangements, queue types and timings are administered by the temple devasthanam and vary considerably by day and festival, so confirm close to your travel date - and note that Maha Shivaratri brings crowds on an entirely different scale.

Patala Ganga and the Ropeway

Patala Ganga and the Ropeway

Patala Ganga is the bathing ghat on the Krishna below the temple, reached by a long flight of steps or by the ropeway that runs down the hillside - the descent is several hundred feet and the ropeway is the sensible option for most visitors, particularly on the way back up. Pilgrims bathe here before darshan, as at the great river ghats elsewhere. Visit in the morning while it is cool. The ropeway has its own timings and closes in poor weather, and queues build on weekends and festival days, so allow more time than the distance suggests.

Srisailam Dam

Srisailam Dam

One of the largest hydroelectric projects in India, holding back the Krishna in a deep gorge a short distance from the temple, with a viewpoint over the reservoir and the spillway. When the gates are open after a good monsoon the volume of water is genuinely startling, and it is worth timing a visit for. There is a lit view in the evenings. Note that the dam is a controlled installation, photography is restricted in places and access arrangements change, so follow signage and local direction rather than assuming. It is a fifteen-minute drive from the temple and takes under an hour.

Akkamahadevi Caves

Akkamahadevi Caves

Around sixteen kilometres upstream, these limestone caves on the Krishna are associated with the twelfth-century Kannada poet-saint Akka Mahadevi, who is said to have meditated here, and they hold a naturally formed lingam deep inside. The only access is by boat from Patala Ganga, and the round trip takes two to three hours on the water. Visit if you have the time and the day allows - it is not a compulsory stop and some visitors find the caves modest, but the boat journey up the gorge between forested cliffs is the real experience. Boats operate seasonally and depend on water levels, so confirm on the day.

Sakshi Ganapati and Sikharam

Sakshi Ganapati and Sikharam

Sakshi Ganapati, around three kilometres from the temple, is where by tradition Ganapati records the visit of each pilgrim to Mallikarjuna - the name means the witness, and devotees stop here to have their darshan noted. Srisailam Sikharam, some eight kilometres away, is the highest point in the area and gives a view of the temple gopuram from a distance; tradition holds that sighting the gopuram from Sikharam carries particular merit. Visit both as a short circuit after darshan. Together they take around ninety minutes and they complete the visit as pilgrims have made it for centuries.

The Nallamala Forest

The Nallamala Forest

Srisailam sits inside the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, the largest tiger reserve in India by area, covering the Nallamala hills across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The forest is home to the Chenchu, one of the particularly vulnerable tribal groups of the region, who have lived in these hills for a very long time and whose relationship with the Srisailam shrine is recorded in local tradition. Visit in the sense of noticing where you are: the ghat drive in and out is through core tiger habitat, wildlife crossings are a genuine possibility, and the night restriction on the road exists for good reason.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Srisailam Route

Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, the age profile of the party and whether you are doing it in one day or two, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the five shapes below.

Family and Pilgrimage Package

The dominant booking type by a wide margin: extended families travelling for darshan at Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba, often across three generations and frequently with a vow attached to the visit. A 12 or 13 seater covers most; larger family gatherings move to the 17 or 18 seater. We plan these around two fixed points: clearing the forest ghat with hours in hand, and arriving in time for a proper darshan rather than at the end of the day. Drivers on pilgrimage bookings are selected for patience with long queue waits, which at Srisailam on a festival day can run to several hours, and for understanding that the vehicle is the group’s base for that whole time.

Temple Committee and Large Group Package

Community pilgrimages, temple committees and neighbourhood groups moving twenty or more people, which this destination generates more than any other we serve. The 17 and 18 seater variants take the larger family units, and beyond that we run two vehicles on one schedule or move you to a minibus or coach. What matters on these bookings is coordination rather than comfort: a single departure time, a single arrival, one point of contact for the organiser, and a written itinerary everyone can be given in advance. We also handle the driver-side planning for multi-vehicle groups so the party is not split across the forest gate.

Two-Day Journey Package

The structure we recommend for any group that cannot depart before dawn, and for any group with elderly travellers. An overnight at Kurnool at 360 kilometres leaves an easy three-hour run to Srisailam the next morning, arriving fresh and in good time for darshan rather than after ten hours in a vehicle. Mahanandi and Nandyal, on the alternative approach, are the other common halt and are worth the visit in their own right, since Mahanandi has one of the nine Nandi shrines of the region and a set of spring-fed temple tanks. Driver accommodation and the second-day allowance are written into the package quote at the outset rather than added at settlement.

Budget Package

For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible per-head figure on a two-day pilgrimage return. Spread across twelve or thirteen passengers this route works out well below the equivalent in three or four separate cabs, and on a journey this long that difference is worth calculating properly rather than estimating. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a direct itinerary: temple, Patala Ganga, Sakshi Ganapati and Sikharam, without the boat trip or the Lepakshi detour. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers.

Luxury Package

For senior pilgrimage groups and guest hosting, and this is the route where we recommend it most often. Srisailam brings elderly travellers in numbers no other destination in our network matches, and they face a ten-hour day followed by steps, queues and a ropeway. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania. The practical argument concerns the second half of the drive: an undivided road followed by a forest ghat is noticeably easier in a vehicle with better suspension, and the difference shows at the temple rather than in the vehicle.

Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment

Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.

Included in the quoted fare

•     Base fare and fuel charges

•     Driver allowance

Not included in the quoted fare

•     Toll and parking charges

•     Interstate tax and permit charges

•     Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra

•     Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage

•     GST

Three points are specific to this route. First, darshan tickets, special entry arrangements, accommodation booked through the devasthanam, ropeway tickets at Patala Ganga, boat charges to the Akkamahadevi caves and any seva fees are all paid on site and sit entirely outside the vehicle fare. They are temple and local charges, we do not add a margin to them, and we will tell you the expected order of cost so a group organiser can budget properly. Second, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit applies, is quoted as a separate line at actual, and scales with seating capacity, so an 18 seater carries a higher figure than a 12 seater and we quote it before you choose the vehicle rather than after. Third, on a two-day booking with a Kurnool overnight, the driver accommodation and second-day allowance are built into the package quote in writing at the outset.

Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. We recommend it particularly for large extended-family and temple-committee groups, where a group policy is usually inexpensive and straightforward to arrange. We also do not operate sleeper coaches, which groups do ask about on a route this long; the fleet here is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•     Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

•     Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala and the KIA airport are all routine, and the airport sits directly on this route.

•     Share the number of passengers, your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC — and whether the group includes elderly travellers, since that changes what we recommend on this route.

•     Tell us whether you want the single-day run or the two-day version with a Kurnool overnight, since the two are quoted differently.

•     For temple committee and large group bookings, give us one point of contact for the organiser. For corporate bookings, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•     Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.

•     The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit as its own line, driver accommodation on a two-day booking, and GST.

•     No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•     For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•     If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time. Permit charges differ between them, so ask for both figures.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

•     Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

•     A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your dates.

•     Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

•     The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•     Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

•     For Maha Shivaratri and other festival periods, book months rather than weeks ahead and expect a higher advance.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•     Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.

•     For airport pickups, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•     The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

•     The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•     During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the border checkpost and the forest ghat timing.

•     At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, travel dates and whether you want the one-day or two-day version. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

•     UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•     Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients, temple committees and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•     Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.

•     Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.

•     Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

•     Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your dates. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment, which for a group organiser collecting from members is worth having.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

•     More than 72 hours before departure — no cancellation charge. 100 percent of the advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

•     48 to 72 hours before departure — 10 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 10 percent deduction.

•     24 to 48 hours before departure — 25 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 25 percent deduction.

•     12 to 24 hours before departure — 50 percent of the total trip fare. The advance is refunded less the 50 percent deduction.

•     Less than 12 hours before departure — 75 percent of the total trip fare. Minimal or no refund, depending on the value of the trip.

•     No-show, where the vehicle has been deployed and the group is absent — 100 percent of the total trip fare. No refund; the full fare is payable.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels, for breakdown or force majeure — no charge. 100 percent refunded within 2 working days, or an alternate vehicle offered at the same rate.

Special cancellation conditions

•     Two-day and multi-vehicle bookings: the vehicle and driver are committed for two or three days, so a minimum 5-day notice is required for a full refund on trips booked more than 7 days ahead.

•     Festival dates — Maha Shivaratri in particular, along with Karthika Masam, New Year and Ugadi: minimum 7-day notice for a full refund, given how far ahead these bookings are placed. Less than 48 hours is non-refundable.

•     Temple committee and large group bookings: partial reductions in group size with more than 48 hours notice are accommodated by re-quoting on the smaller vehicle where one is available.

•     Force majeure — forest department closures on the Nallamala road, heavy rain, bandhs or government restrictions: 100 percent refund within 2 working days regardless of notice period.

•     Modifications to date, seating or route with more than 24 hours notice: accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability. Note that a seating change may alter the permit charge.

How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

Refund Policy

All refunds are processed to the original payment instrument used for the advance. No cash refund is issued unless the advance was paid in cash.

•     Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 48 to 72 hours before departure: advance minus the 10 percent charge, in 5 to 7 working days.

•     Cancellation 12 to 24 hours before departure: advance minus the 50 percent charge, in 7 to 10 working days.

•     Cancellation by Tejas Travels for operational reasons: 100 percent of the advance paid, in 2 working days on priority processing.

•     Trip shortfall where actual kilometres fall below the minimum: proportional credit on the excess, settled at trip end against the final balance.

•     Billing error or overcharge: the full overcharged amount, in 2 to 3 working days after verification.

•     Duplicate payment: the full duplicate amount, in 2 to 3 working days after confirmation.

Refund by payment method

•     UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm): refunded to the UPI-linked bank account within 3 to 5 working days.

•     Credit or debit card: refunded to the originating card within 5 to 7 working days.

•     Bank transfer: refunded to the originating account within 3 to 5 working days, with account details re-confirmed before processing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Srisailam Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to srisailam distance is around 530 km via Chikkaballapur, Anantapur, Gooty, Kurnool and Atmakur, with reported figures between 500 km and 540 km. A loaded tempo traveller takes 8 to 10 hours, and the split matters more than the total: the 360 kilometres to Kurnool takes a little over four hours on excellent NH 44, while the remaining 180 kilometres takes three to four because the road is undivided and the final section is a forest ghat.

Because the road changes completely at Kurnool. Everything to Kurnool is excellent divided highway; beyond it the road is undivided two-lane through Nandikotkur and Atmakur with villages on the road and local traffic, and the last eighty kilometres is a winding ghat through dense forest where the pace is slow by design. It is a good road, simply not a fast one, and a loaded 18 seater is no quicker through it than a car. Anyone quoting ninety minutes for the Kurnool to Srisailam section has not driven it.

The final approach is restricted. Traffic through the Nallamala on the ghat into Srisailam is controlled by the forest department at night, commonly reported as no vehicles after around 9:00 PM, because this is the core of the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve. Timings are set by the forest authorities and are subject to change, so we confirm the current position before departure. The practical rule is to leave Bangalore early enough that the ghat is cleared with hours in hand, and on a group booking that matters twice over, since a split convoy can end up on opposite sides of a closed gate overnight.

For eight to thirteen passengers the 12 or 13 seater at Rs 22 per km is the best value in the fleet. For fourteen to eighteen, the 17 or 18 seater. Two route-specific points: the Andhra Pradesh permit charge is higher on a larger vehicle, so ask for both figures when you compare, and if the group includes elderly travellers we would steer you toward the smaller premium variants for the second half of the drive. Beyond eighteen passengers, which on this route is common, we move you to a mini bus rental in bangalore vehicle or run two tempo travellers on one schedule.

A 12 seater starts from around Rs 27,000. Two-day itineraries with a Kurnool overnight are quoted on the day-wise plan including driver accommodation. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, toll estimate, the Andhra Pradesh permit and GST separately, and arrives in writing within two hours. Temple charges, ropeway tickets and boat fares are paid on site and sit outside the fare.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Darshan tickets, devasthanam accommodation, ropeway tickets at Patala Ganga, boat charges to the Akkamahadevi caves and seva fees are all paid on site and are not ours to bill. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. A 20 percent advance confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes.

No, and it is worth being direct about this. Darshan arrangements, queue types, special entry and devasthanam accommodation are administered entirely by the temple authorities through their own channels, and no transport operator can guarantee a slot. What we do is build the day around whatever arrangement you have made, including the early arrival that a good darshan requires, and our drivers know the temple approach, the parking and the ropeway access. We would treat any operator promising guaranteed darshan as part of a vehicle booking with caution.

Yes, and all three are worthwhile. Lepakshi is a short detour off the highway near the Andhra border, with the hanging pillar, the ceiling murals and the great monolithic Nandi, around forty-five minutes and among the finest Vijayanagara sites anywhere. Puttaparthi lies off the highway near Anantapur. Mahanandi sits near Nandyal on the alternative approach and works best as an overnight halt on a two-day itinerary. Tell us at quotation stage so the kilometres and the time are in the plan, since on a one-day run to Srisailam there is no slack to absorb an unplanned detour.

No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently; for large extended-family and temple-committee groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and straightforward. We also do not operate sleeper bus services, which groups ask about on a route this long. The fleet is seated throughout: 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers, 12 to 24 seater minibuses, 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches, 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania, and 4 to 7 seater cars.

October to March. Rayalaseema and the Nallamala from April to June are severe, regularly crossing the high thirties, and Srisailam sits where the heat settles, which for a group with elderly members is a genuine consideration rather than a comfort one. Maha Shivaratri, usually in February or March, is the largest festival of the year here and draws enormous crowds: extraordinary to witness, but queues run to many hours and the town is completely full, so book vehicles months ahead or avoid those weeks entirely if you want a calm darshan.
