Places to Visit in Yelagiri

Punganoor Lake and the Nature Park
The man-made lake at the centre of the plateau is the hub of Yelagiri, with pedal and rowing boats, a musical fountain in the evenings, and a park along the shore that is where everyone ends up at some point. The adjoining Nature Park has a children play area, a small aquarium and landscaped gardens. Visit in the late afternoon. It is not a spectacular lake and visitors who arrive expecting Ooty are sometimes underwhelmed - but as the centre of a very quiet hill plateau it does its job, and everything in Yelagiri is measured in distance from it.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hosur
Little England of India
The only part of the day that depends on timing rather than road. Our drivers reach the pickup point fifteen minutes early and aim to be past Electronic City before 8:00 AM on a weekend departure, because the difference between clearing Silk Board before and after the morning build-up is close to forty minutes. Passengers boarding at Whitefield or Marathahalli are routed via Sarjapur and Attibele to bypass Chandapura. The road opens out immediately after the Attibele toll and the Tamil Nadu border. Hosur is called the Little England of India for its unusually temperate climate, and it sits at the centre of a rose-growing belt that supplies flowers across South India alongside major two-wheeler and automotive plants. Most travellers do not halt here. From Hosur the highway is six-lane and excellent, and on a route this short the rest of the drive is entirely straightforward.

Krishnagiri
Mango Capital of Tamil Nadu
Fifty fast kilometres of six-lane divided highway with hill views on both sides. This is where the drive settles, and for an 8:00 AM departure Krishnagiri arrives around 9:45 AM - right for a late breakfast if you have not eaten. Krishnagiri is the mango belt of Tamil Nadu, and between April and July the roadside Banganapalli and Neelam stalls are worth stopping for on their own. A ninth-century hill fort built on a granite outcrop is visible from the highway, and the KRP Dam catchment nearby makes a quiet break point. This is also the junction where the roads part: NH 44 continues south toward Dharmapuri and Salem, while our route takes NH 48 east toward Vellore and Chennai.

Vaniyambadi
Leather Town of Tamil Nadu
Fifty kilometres east on excellent highway through the Bargur country, where the hills to the north give their name to a hardy indigenous cattle breed kept by Lingayat herders - one of the recognised native breeds of Tamil Nadu and a genuine piece of local identity. Vaniyambadi is a leather town, and has been for generations - tanning and finished leather goods from here and from Ambur supply buyers across Europe, and the trade defines both places. Ambur, a short distance further east, is the other thing this stretch of road is known for: Ambur biryani, made with seeraga samba rice and a distinct method, is among the most celebrated regional biryanis in India and the original establishments are still here. It is around twenty kilometres past the Yelagiri turn, which makes it a detour rather than a stop - but on the return leg it is one very much worth taking.

Yelagiri
Hill of Fourteen Hamlets
The route turns south off the highway toward Tirupattur and Ponneri, where the ghat begins. Fourteen kilometres and fourteen numbered hairpin bends climb to the plateau in twenty-five to thirty minutes - a gentle ascent by South Indian standards, well surfaced, and carrying far less traffic than the ghats to the bigger hill stations. What arrives at the top is not a town. Yelagiri is a plateau of fourteen scattered hamlets with a lake near the middle, orchards, rose gardens and jackfruit trees between them, and roads connecting the villages rather than a centre. The temperature drops perceptibly on the climb and the air changes. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. Note that some resort and homestay properties sit on narrow lanes among the hamlets, so send us the property name at booking and we will confirm what can reach the door. An 8:00 AM departure puts most travellers on the plateau around 11:30 AM with the whole day ahead.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Yelagiri Route
Nothing here is a fixed menu. Every quotation is built around group size, how many nights you are staying and where your property sits, but almost every enquiry on this corridor falls into one of the five shapes below.
Family Package
The dominant leisure booking on this route: families taking a two-night weekend at one of the resort properties, very often with young children, for whom Yelagiri suits better than the bigger hill stations because it is closer, milder and far less crowded. A 12 or 13 seater covers most extended families; larger gatherings move to the 17 or 18 seater. The planning is straightforward on a three-hour drive: a morning departure, arrival by late morning, and the vehicle staying with the group because the hamlets are spread across the plateau and there is essentially no local transport. Drivers on family bookings are chosen for patience with the long, unhurried halts a plateau weekend involves.
Weekend and Two-Day Package
What this route is built for. A Saturday morning departure puts a group on the plateau by late morning with the whole day free, and a Sunday evening return gets everyone home at a reasonable hour, which is the entire argument for Yelagiri over Ooty or Coorg for a short break. We keep the vehicle with the group across the weekend as standard, since the lake, the trek base, the falls and the observatory are spread out, and quotes carry a stated local-running allowance. On the return leg an Ambur biryani stop costs about forty minutes and is the single most requested addition on this route.
Corporate and College Offsite Package
Yelagiri has become one of the most requested short offsite destinations from Bangalore, for the same reason it works for families: it is close enough that the travel does not consume the event. The resort properties handle team groups, and the adventure operators run trekking, rappelling, rock climbing and paragliding sessions that suit corporate and college programmes. The 17 and 18 seater variants take a full team, and because the ghat is gentle we can run minibuses and coaches here for larger parties, which is not true of most hill routes. Documentation is handled up front with GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for purchase-order approval and monthly consolidated billing through our corporate travels bangalore desk, and our outstation tempo traveller bangalore team builds the itinerary around the activity bookings.
Budget Package
For groups where the priority is the lowest defensible per-head figure. At 160 kilometres this is among the cheapest hill-station runs from Bangalore for a group, the ghat needs no vehicle upgrade at all, and a same-day return finishes inside the driver bata threshold, which removes a charge that applies on most comparable routes. Budget means a standard AC 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore variant and a direct itinerary of the lake, one viewpoint and a leisurely lunch. It does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards do not change between tiers.
Luxury Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and company visitors. This tier covers our 9 to 13 seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore range with high-back recliners, footrests, reading lights, blackout curtains and per-seat charging, and extends to the Force Urbania, which is a strong fit for a group weekend here. On a route this short the argument is not endurance, since three hours on good highway asks little of anyone. It is that the smaller premium variants reach the resort properties on narrow hamlet lanes that a larger vehicle cannot, so the comfort choice and the access choice happen to be the same one.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for this corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged and everything inside it is stated before you confirm. Twenty percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the quoted fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not included in the quoted fare
• Toll and parking charges
• Interstate tax and permit charges
• Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
• Final rental calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage
• GST
Three points are specific to this route. First, the Tamil Nadu interstate permit applies since the road crosses the border shortly after Attibele; it is quoted as a separate line at actual and scales with seating capacity, so an 18 seater carries a higher figure than a 12 seater and we quote it before you choose the vehicle. Second, this is one of the few routes where a same-day return comfortably finishes inside the 9:45 PM driver bata threshold, which makes the day cheaper here than on comparable corridors, and we say so rather than leaving it implied. Third, local running on the plateau is modest by hill-station standards but not nothing, since the hamlets are spread out, so weekend package quotes carry a stated allowance for it. Paragliding, boating and adventure activity charges are paid on site to the operators.
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. Paragliding and adventure operator arrangements are separate again and worth checking directly with them, and for school and college groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper coaches; the fleet on this route is seated tempo travellers in the 8 to 18 band.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Rent in Bangalore
Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.
Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels
• Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Share your travel date and your Bangalore pickup location — area, landmark, building, hotel or tech park. Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala and the KIA airport are all routine.
• Send us the name of your Yelagiri property. Some resorts and homestays sit on narrow lanes among the hamlets, and we will confirm what can reach the door before you book rather than after you arrive.
• Share the number of passengers, your preferred vehicle tier — Standard AC or Luxury AC — and whether you want a single-day return or an overnight. If you have paragliding or adventure sessions booked, tell us the timings so the itinerary is built around them.
• For corporate and college bookings, give us one point of contact for the organiser, plus your GST number and preferred invoicing format where applicable.
Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, a written quote arrives by WhatsApp or email.
• The quote itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, the local-running allowance for the plateau, applicable toll estimates, the Tamil Nadu interstate permit as its own line, and GST.
• No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.
• For corporate clients requiring reimbursement approval, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.
• If you want to compare two seating sizes or the standard and luxury tiers, request both quotes at the same time. Permit charges differ between them, so ask for both figures.
Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance
• Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.
• A 20 percent advance payment on the total fare confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date.
• Pay by UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.
• The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.
• Your confirmation includes the driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.
• For the Summer Festival in May, the paragliding season, New Year and long weekends, book well ahead since this is a weekend-shaped route and fleet availability tightens quickly.
Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early
• Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.
• For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.
• The vehicle arrives clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.
• The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.
• During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the border checkpost and the ghat, and stays with the group across the stay.
• At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.
Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, Yelagiri property name and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.
Payment Methods
Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.
• UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.
• Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used for corporate clients, college groups and larger advances. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.
• Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for the advance and for full payment.
• Net banking — all major Indian banks, through a payment link by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate purchase-order approvals.
• Cash — accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.
• Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.
Payment note: a 20 percent advance confirms your booking and guarantees vehicle availability on your date. No advance means no confirmed booking. A digital receipt is issued within 30 minutes of every payment, which for a group organiser collecting from members is worth having.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Yelagiri Tempo Traveller
The bangalore to yelagiri distance is around 160 km via NH 48 through Hosur, Krishnagiri, Bargur and Vaniyambadi, then the turn at Ponneri and fourteen kilometres up the ghat. Reported figures cluster between 155 km and 170 km. A loaded tempo traveller takes 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes with one halt: six-lane divided highway the whole way to the turn-off, with no ghat until the last fourteen kilometres.
Yes, comfortably, and this is the route where we can say that without qualification. There are fourteen numbered hairpin bends over around fourteen kilometres, the surface is good, the gradient is moderate and it takes twenty-five to thirty minutes. It is gentler than the twenty bends to Yercaud, considerably gentler than the thirty-six to Ooty, and it carries much less traffic than either. Tempo travellers of every size take it at normal pace, and so do minibuses and full-size coaches, which means a group of twenty-five can travel on one vehicle here when they could not to most hill stations.
Yelagiri is closer to Bangalore by about an hour, lower and milder, smaller, and much quieter. Yercaud has more to see, a better-known lake and more infrastructure. What Yelagiri has that Yercaud does not is emptiness and an adventure scene, since paragliding, trekking and rock climbing are properly established here, which is why it wins most corporate and college offsite comparisons. If your group wants a hill station with things to see, Yercaud. If it wants two days of very little in cool air three hours from home, or a programme of activities, Yelagiri.
Comfortably, and it is a common booking. Leave at 7:00 AM, on the plateau by 10:30, and the group has six or seven hours before a return that gets everyone home well before nine, which is inside the driver bata threshold and keeps the day cheap. That covers the lake, one of the viewpoints and a leisurely lunch, but not the Swamimalai trek, which needs a morning of its own. Given how short the drive is, a night on the plateau costs little more per head and turns it into an actual break, which is what Yelagiri is for.
A 12 seater same-day return starts from around Rs 8,500. Weekend and offsite packages are quoted on the day-wise plan with a stated allowance for local running on the plateau. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, toll estimate, the Tamil Nadu permit and GST separately, and arrives in writing within two hours.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Boating, paragliding and adventure activity charges are paid on site to the operators. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage, and local running on the plateau is part of that total. Note that on this route a same-day return generally finishes inside the 9:45 PM threshold, so the late-return charge rarely applies. A 20 percent advance confirms the booking, with the receipt issued within 30 minutes.
Ask us before you book. Yelagiri is fourteen scattered hamlets rather than a town, and some resort and homestay properties sit on narrow lanes between them. A car reaches all of them; a 17 or 18 seater does not always. Send us the property name at enquiry stage and we will confirm what can get to the door, and where it cannot we arrange the last stretch rather than leaving a group standing on a lane with luggage. It takes one message and it removes the most common avoidable problem on this route.
Yes, and it is the most requested addition on this route. Ambur is around twenty kilometres east of the Yelagiri turn on the Chennai highway, so it is a detour rather than a stop on the way up, which makes it perfect for the return leg with a hungry group. Ambur biryani, made with seeraga samba rice and a distinct method, is among the most celebrated regional biryanis in India and the original establishments are still operating there. Budget forty minutes and tell us at booking so the return timing accounts for it.
No on both counts. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal cover should arrange it independently. For paragliding and adventure activities the operator arrangements are separate again and worth checking directly with them, and for school and college groups a group policy is usually inexpensive and often required by the institution. We also do not operate sleeper bus services. The fleet is seated throughout: 8 to 18 seater tempo travellers, 12 to 24 seater minibuses, 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches, 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania, and 4 to 7 seater cars.
October to June, which is a longer usable window than most South Indian hill stations offer, since Yelagiri is mild rather than cold and works even in the summer months when the plains below are at their worst. The Summer Festival in May is the busiest period, and the paragliding season runs through the drier months, so an activity-based group booking should be placed against that calendar. The monsoon makes the bends slippery, the views cloudy and the trekking unpleasant, though Jalagamparai Falls is at its best from July onward.
