The Gommateshwara at Gomatabetta
A forty-two foot Bahubali carved from a single granite block and raised in 1432 by the Bhairarasa ruler Veera Pandya, standing on a bare rock hill above the town with the coastal plain on one side and the Western Ghats on the other. It is the second largest of the Karnataka monoliths after Shravanabelagola and it stands in the open with none of the enclosure that surrounds most of them. The climb is short and stepped. Visit in the early morning or the late afternoon; the view from the top is worth as much time as the statue.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Chikmagalur
Coffee Cradle of India
The route leaves Bangalore northwest onto NH 75, and the Nelamangala junction is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM. Yediyur, twenty-five kilometres beyond Kunigal, has the best breakfast cluster on this highway and is worth using properly since options thin later. Channarayapatna is where the Bahubali circuit begins if that is your purpose - Shravanabelagola lies twelve kilometres off the highway with the oldest and largest of the five monoliths. Hassan follows, and beyond it Belur with the Chennakeshava temple. Chikmagalur turns the country to coffee, and past it the road runs west into the Malnad.
Moodabidri
Jain Kashi of Karnataka
Kottigehara is where the Charmadi ghat turns down toward the coast - a descent through forest in tight hairpins, one of the better roads in Karnataka and one to be doing in daylight. At the bottom the country changes into coastal Dakshina Kannada, humid and dense with areca and coconut. Ujire comes first with Dharmasthala eight kilometres off it and a thirty-nine foot Bahubali on the hill above - carved, as it happens, at Karkala. Venur follows, a village on the Phalguni with a thirty-five foot monolith of 1604 and almost nothing else. Moodabidri, the Jain Kashi, is twenty kilometres short of Karkala with its eighteen basadis and the thousand-pillar hall.

Karkala
Black Stone Town of Tulu Nadu
Twenty kilometres of easy coastal plain road through areca gardens and paddy, flat and quick after the ghat. The Western Ghats stand behind to the east and the country here is Tulu Nadu proper - tiled roofs, temple tanks and the particular density of green this coast has. Karkala announces itself with the rock hill and the figure standing on it, visible from some distance across the flat. It is a small working town rather than a heritage enclave - the Gommateshwara on Gomatabetta, the Chaturmukha Basadi below, Anekere in the middle of it, and the granite quarries that gave the place its name still working in the surrounding country. Udupi is thirty-five kilometres west. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 2:00 PM.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Karkala Route
Corporate Package
Built for Bangalore technology and manufacturing teams travelling to the coast for plant visits, dealer meets, offsites and annual team trips. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate tempo traveller bangalore stays with your team across the Karkala, Moodabidri, Mangalore and Udupi legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Karkala also works well as a low-cost offsite base within reach of Kudremukh and Agumbe for teams that want a change from the usual Coorg and Chikmagalur rotation. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The most common booking on this corridor. Karkala is rarely a standalone trip for families; it usually sits inside a four to six day coastal Karnataka circuit taking in Shravanabelagola, Dharmasthala, Karkala, Moodabidri, Venur, Varanga and Udupi. The package is built around temple timings and around the reality that a family will spend two hours inside a basadi complex and needs the vehicle waiting when they come out. Push-back seating matters more than usual when senior members of the family are travelling and there is a ghat descent in the day’s plan. Luggage capacity is the deciding advantage on a week-long trip: an 18 seater swallows what four cars would struggle with.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Standard 8 to 13 seater tempo travellers, point to point, no frills, clean vehicle, verified driver — suited to college groups, community trips and pilgrimage associations travelling in numbers. The tempo traveller rate per km in bangalore for the standard tier is our lowest group-vehicle rate, and across a 365 kilometre one-way run the saving over multiple cars is substantial. The budget tier is about vehicle specification and nothing else. Maintenance schedules, driver vetting and documentation are identical across every tier we run.
Luxury Package
The 17 and 18 seater vehicles in a fuller specification, or a smaller variant run below capacity so every passenger has an empty seat beside them. Suited to milestone family trips, senior management travel and groups that want to stay together without compromising on comfort over an eight-hour drive with a ghat section in it. For a further step up in the same seat range, our force urbania rent bangalore fleet offers full recliner seats, dual-zone air conditioning and per-seat charging in 8 to 16 seater configurations, and runs the same route.
Our Tempo Traveller Fleet in Bangalore
Our luxury tempo traveller bangalore fleet covers 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 17 and 18 seater configurations, all air conditioned, with push-back seating, charging points and GPS tracking. We run the full range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater AC, the core vehicle for this route
• Force Urbania — 8 to 16 seater luxury van, the premium alternative in the same seat range
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for groups above tempo traveller capacity
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large movements
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On the Karkala route this is not a limitation, since the drive is comfortably completed in daylight in a single day, and daylight is also when the Charmadi descent is at its safest and by some distance its most worthwhile.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where a route crosses a state border
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
On the Bangalore to Karkala route specifically, no interstate tax applies, because the entire journey stays inside Karnataka. That is a genuine cost advantage over comparable distances into Tamil Nadu or Kerala and it is worth factoring in when you compare quotes from different operators.
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns. We build this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Karkala Tempo Traveller
The bangalore to karkala distance by road is approximately 365 kilometres. The usual route runs on NH75 through Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan, then turns for Belur and Mudigere and drops through Charmadi Ghat to Ujire and Belthangady before the final run north to Karkala. Driving time is 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours 30 minutes depending on departure time and halts. Leaving Bangalore between 5:00 AM and 5:30 AM clears Nelamangala before traffic builds and puts you in Karkala by early afternoon.
Pricing starts from around Rs 17,500. The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately at actuals are toll and parking, additional driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. No interstate tax applies on this route because it stays within Karnataka. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, and every charge appears as a line item in the written quote you receive within 2 hours.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific tempo traveller variant on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance.
The drive itself is a comfortable single day. But Karkala, Moodabidri, Venur and Varanga together need at least a full day on the ground, and most groups plan two or three nights so that Dharmasthala, Udupi or Kudremukh can be added. A same-day return of 730 kilometres is possible but means sixteen hours in the vehicle and effectively no time at the destination, so we do not recommend it.
No. The entire route from Bangalore to Karkala stays inside Karnataka, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. This is a real cost saving compared with similar distances into Tamil Nadu or Kerala. All vehicle documentation, fitness, permit and driver compliance for Karnataka is maintained as standard across the fleet.
Our 17 seater tempo traveller rent bangalore fleet, along with 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 18 seater variants, covers most group sizes on this corridor. Under eight passengers, a car or SUV is usually more economical. Above eighteen, we operate 12 to 24 seater mini buses and 27 to 50 seater buses including Volvo and Benz coaches. Groups wanting a higher specification in the same seat range take the Force Urbania. We recommend the right size based on headcount and luggage when you enquire.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route that is not a drawback, since the drive is best done in daylight. The Charmadi Ghat descent is safer and considerably more scenic by day, and an early departure gets you to Karkala with the afternoon still free.
Charmadi stays open through the monsoon in normal conditions, but June to September brings heavy rain, mist and reduced visibility, and landslides or repair work can close it at short notice. When that happens we route via Sakleshpur and Shiradi Ghat instead, which adds distance and some time but is a comparable drive, and we tell you before departure rather than after. Drivers assigned to this corridor are chosen for ghat experience. Any cancellation caused by a road closure attracts a full refund within 2 working days.
Yes, and this is how most groups book it. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout, covering Gommateshwara, the Chaturmukha Basadi, Hiriyangadi, Anekere, Ramasamudra, the Venkataramana temple and Attur Church in Karkala itself, plus Varanga, Moodabidri, Venur, Dharmasthala, Udupi and Kudremukh. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry stage and we quote the whole trip as one number.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our tempo traveller hire bangalore enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
