Alleppey Backwaters Houseboat Cruise
The single biggest reason travellers make the long drive to Alleppey is the houseboat cruise through its famous backwaters, a network of canals, rivers and lagoons stretching over nine hundred kilometres. Traditional kettuvallam houseboats, built from wood and coir without a single nail, drift past paddy fields, coconut groves, small temples and churches, offering a rare glimpse of Kuttanad village life from the water. Most cruises include meals cooked on board in traditional Kerala style, and both day trips and overnight stays are available depending on how much time you have. For many visitors, watching the sun set over the water from the deck of a houseboat is the single most memorable part of the entire trip.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hosur
Industrial gateway town
Hosur, just across the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border, is one of the first major towns on this route and is known for its automobile and electronics manufacturing units. The stretch from Bangalore to Hosur is usually the most congested part of the journey due to city outskirts traffic, so most drivers prefer to clear this section early in the morning before the roads get busier.

Krishnagiri
Mango town and dam views
Krishnagiri is well known across South India for its mango orchards and is often called the mango city of Tamil Nadu, with roadside stalls selling fresh mangoes and juices in season. The Krishnagiri Dam, visible from parts of the highway, adds a scenic backdrop to this stretch, and the town is a popular breakfast stop for drivers running the Bangalore to Kerala highway corridor.

Salem
Steel city and textile hub
Salem, one of the larger cities on this route, is known for its steel plants, silk and cotton textile industry, and mango and coconut cultivation in the surrounding districts. It is a good midway stop for a proper meal, fuel and a short break, since it marks roughly a third of the total distance to Alleppey and offers plenty of well-reviewed highway restaurants.
Erode
Turmeric city of India
Erode, often called the turmeric city of India, hosts one of the largest turmeric markets in the country and is also a significant textile and handloom centre. The highway here passes through fertile agricultural land, and the town serves as a convenient checkpoint roughly midway between Salem and Coimbatore for a quick tea or snack break.

Coimbatore
Manchester of South India
Coimbatore, nicknamed the Manchester of South India for its long history of textile manufacturing, is one of the largest cities on this route and a natural stopping point for a longer break, fuel and a proper meal. The city also marks the point where the terrain begins to change, with the Western Ghats visible in the distance as the road approaches the Kerala border through the scenic Walayar forest stretch.

Palakkad
Gateway to Kerala
Palakkad, the first major town after crossing into Kerala, is historically known as the gateway to Kerala because of the Palakkad Gap, a natural break in the Western Ghats that has long served as the main route between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The town is home to the well preserved Palakkad Fort, and the sudden shift to lush greenery and coconut groves along the highway here is a clear sign that you have entered Kerala's backwater country.

Thrissur
Cultural capital of Kerala
Thrissur, widely regarded as the cultural capital of Kerala, is famous for the Thrissur Pooram festival, its temple architecture and its strong classical arts tradition. The highway bypass around the city keeps this stretch relatively quick, but travellers with extra time sometimes make a short detour into the city for its markets and temples before continuing towards Kochi.

Kochi
Queen of the Arabian Sea
Kochi, often called the Queen of the Arabian Sea, is Kerala's largest city and commercial hub, known for Fort Kochi's colonial era architecture, Chinese fishing nets and a thriving food scene. Many travellers combine their Alleppey trip with a day in Kochi, either on the way in or on the return leg, since the two cities are less than an hour and a half apart and offer a nice contrast between backwater calm and coastal city energy.

Alleppey
Destination - the Venice of the East
The final stretch from Kochi into Alleppey follows the coast through Cherthala, with paddy fields and canals becoming more frequent as you approach the town. Depending on your houseboat or resort booking, your driver will drop you directly at the jetty or your accommodation, keeping in mind that most houseboat check-in times are fixed around noon. From here, your backwater itinerary of houseboat cruises, village walks and sightseeing can begin.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Alleppey Route
Four package structures covering the same 590 kilometre route, differing in vehicle class, schedule and billing format.
Corporate Package
For annual outings, leadership retreats and MICE groups where Kerala is the reward destination. GST invoice against your PO, Proforma Invoice at quote stage, 30-day credit terms for registered accounts, consolidated monthly billing, and both interstate permits handled entirely by our team so your admin staff do not have to deal with two state authorities. Executive-class 17 or 20 seater units with charging points at every row, and a driver who reports to your designated coordinator. On a twelve-hour drive we will always propose the Coimbatore overnight for corporate groups rather than pushing straight through. For requirements beyond a single trip, our corporate travels division handles annual contracts on the same fleet.
Family Package
For multi-generational groups of ten to eighteen doing the classic Kerala circuit — backwaters, Marari, Ambalappuzha and often Munnar or Kochi on the same trip. Wide-door 14 seater with lower step height, flexible halt timing, generous luggage space for a week away, and a schedule built around your houseboat boarding time. Most families take the four-night, five-day format with a break at Coimbatore or Thrissur on one leg. This is the most-booked bangalore to alleppey tempo traveller package we run.
Budget Package
For friend circles, college batches and photography groups where the per-head number decides whether the trip happens. Standard AC 12 or 17 seater, efficient four-day format, value-for-money highway meal halts. Filling the vehicle is what makes this work: a fully occupied 17 seater brings the per-person round-trip transport cost below a return train ticket plus local transfers, with the vehicle available to you at Marari, Kuttanad and the jetty.
Luxury Package
Maharaja-configuration tempo traveller with recliner seats, individual reading lights, LED entertainment, curtains and a cooler box. Of all our routes this is the one where the luxury upgrade makes the most difference, simply because of the hours involved. Suited to senior travellers, wedding guest groups travelling to Kerala venues, and clients booked into premium backwater resorts. To go a step further, the Force Urbania with its higher roof and premium cabin is the natural upgrade on this corridor.
Our Services from Bangalore and Mysore
Tejas Tours and Travels operates a full ground-transport fleet out of both Bengaluru and Mysuru. Every service listed here is available on the Alleppey corridor and on every other route we cover.
For smaller parties, our premium car rentals in Bangalore cover sedans, SUVs and luxury cars for four to six passengers, and the Innova Hycross is our most requested seven seater for long family drives. For groups of nine to twenty-six, the tempo traveller rent Bangalore fleet is the core of what we do, with the Force Urbania rent Bangalore range covering luxury van requirements.
Larger groups move to our mini bus in Bangalore fleet for 21 to 35 passengers, or to full-size bus rental in Bangalore for 35 to 55 — a common format for wedding parties travelling to Kerala venues. For premium long-distance group travel we operate a dedicated Volvo luxury bus fleet with pushback seating and onboard entertainment, which on a 590-kilometre run is worth serious consideration for a large group.
Beyond leisure travel, we run corporate travels Bangalore contracts for IT and manufacturing clients, airport transfer Bangalore services with live flight tracking for Kempegowda airport taxi pickups, structured employee transportation services Bangalore covering night shift cab service and tech park routes, and safe school transportation services for excursions and college tour bus rental.
Our outstation cabs Bangalore division handles every long-distance vehicle booking including this Alleppey route, and our wedding car rental Bangalore service supplies decorated cars and guest-transport buses for functions across Karnataka and Kerala. Tour packages for Alleppey, Munnar, Kochi, Wayanad and the wider South India circuit are available on request from both our Bengaluru and Mysuru operating bases.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking. Everything below is stated in writing on your quote before you pay anything.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Excluded from the Quoted Fare
• Toll and parking charges
• Interstate tax and permit charges, where applicable
• Driver bata extra after 9:45 pm
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours, garage to garage
• GST
On this route in particular, note that Tamil Nadu and Kerala interstate permits both apply and are billed separately, and that a late arrival can trigger the post-9:45 pm driver bata — another reason we plan an early departure. Houseboat tariffs, resort tariffs and driver accommodation during a houseboat night are booked and paid directly by you and do not form part of the vehicle quote. Please also note that passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels. Travellers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance where required.
How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Hire in Bangalore — Step by Step
Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.
Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels
• Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
• Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle.
• For Alleppey, share your houseboat operator and jetty name along with the boarding date and time, so we can confirm the overnight parking arrangement and plan the drive to land you there in good time.
• Tell us whether you want to break the journey overnight at Coimbatore or Thrissur, and whether Munnar, Kochi or Kumarakom are being added, since each changes the day plan and the kilometres.
• For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.
• For luxury vehicles, mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.
Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.
• The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs per km or flat package), driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, and the Tamil Nadu and Kerala interstate permits, both of which apply on this route for a Karnataka-registered vehicle.
• Driver accommodation on a houseboat night is flagged separately at this stage rather than left to surface later.
• No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.
• For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.
• If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. On a route this long we will give you an honest view on whether a mini bus suits your group better.
Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance
• Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone.
• A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.
• Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.
• Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.
• Confirmation includes driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing.
• Confirm the houseboat before you lock the vehicle date. Boat availability in the December to February peak is tighter than vehicle availability, and Onam and the boat race season book out well ahead.
Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early
• Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.
• For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.
• The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready.
• For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire.
• The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.
• During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the Attibele and Walayar border formalities, and Kerala traffic navigation, and drops the group at the houseboat jetty.
• At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.
Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.
Payment Methods — Tempo Traveller Hire in Bangalore
Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance booking and the final settlement at trip end.
• UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI, Amazon Pay. Fastest method with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.
• Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS or RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 5,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.
• Credit or debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.
• Net banking — All major Indian banks, through a payment link on WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore IT corporate PO-based approvals.
• Cash — Balance accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation. Receipt issued.
• Corporate credit — 30-day credit terms for signed Bangalore corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.
For premium and luxury vehicles, a higher advance may be required given limited Bangalore fleet availability and wedding season demand. On long interstate routes such as this one, the advance also covers permit costs incurred before departure.

• Weddings — For Bangalore wedding hire, a minimum 7-day notice is required for a full refund. Cancellations within 3 days of the wedding date are non-refundable.
• Luxury vehicles — Minimum 5-day notice for a full refund, due to limited Bangalore fleet availability and wedding season demand.

• Houseboat and resort cancellations — Operator cancellation terms are separate from ours and outside our control. Cancelling a houseboat does not automatically cancel your vehicle booking; tell us directly.

• Modifications — Date changes, vehicle upgrades and route additions with more than 24 hours notice are accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability. Note that a vehicle change requires fresh interstate permits, so give as much notice as you can.
How to cancel: call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference. Cancellation confirmation within 2 hours. Refund to the original payment method within the stated timelines.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Alleppey Tempo Traveller
The road distance is 590 kilometres via NH44 and NH544 through Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kochi. In a tempo traveller, allow 11 to 12 hours including a breakfast halt, a lunch stop and comfort breaks. The final 90 kilometres from Kochi is the slowest part of the day. Leaving Bengaluru by 4:30 am makes a substantial difference.
For a fully loaded tempo traveller, the Salem and Coimbatore route on NH44 and NH544 is the better choice. At 590 kilometres it is marginally longer than the Wayanad route but it is almost entirely four and six-lane highway with no serious ghat section. The Wayanad route crosses Bandipur, where a night traffic ban operates from 9 pm to 6 am, and descends the Thamarassery hairpins. We use the highway unless your itinerary includes Wayanad in its own right.
Yes, two. A Karnataka-registered vehicle needs a Tamil Nadu permit at Attibele and a Kerala permit at Walayar. Tejas Travels arranges both as part of the booking and itemizes the cost separately in your written quote. The driver handles the formalities at both checkposts.
Your tempo traveller drives the group to the jetty and does not come aboard. Take an overnight bag onto the boat and leave the rest in the vehicle, which stands securely at or near the jetty for the night — tell us the jetty name at booking and we will confirm the parking arrangement. Your driver stays ashore, and driver accommodation on a houseboat night is arranged separately and flagged in your quote.
A 12 seater AC tempo traveller starts at Rs 30,500 . Tamil Nadu and Kerala permits, toll, parking and GST are billed separately, and the final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage. Houseboat and resort costs are entirely separate.
The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 pm and GST are charged separately. Houseboat tariffs, resort tariffs and driver accommodation on a houseboat night are paid directly by you. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours calculated garage to garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels.
For many groups, yes. Twelve hours in a vehicle is a long day, particularly with elderly members or small children, and stopping at Coimbatore or Thrissur turns it into two comfortable half-days. It adds a night of accommodation but usually improves the trip considerably. We will propose it for corporate and multi-generational family groups as a matter of course.
Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance. The advance can be paid by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card via payment link, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. Note that once interstate permits have been obtained for your dates, the permit cost is non-refundable.
September to March gives the most comfortable weather, with December to February the peak season for houseboats. The monsoon from June to August is when the backwaters are fullest and the snake boat races are held, though rain is heavy and the drive slower. Onam in August or September is a wonderful time to be in Kerala but everything books out well ahead.
Four nights and five days works well, given that two of those days are largely spent driving. That gives you a houseboat night, a full day for Marari or Kuttanad, and time for Ambalappuzha and Krishnapuram Palace. Groups combining Alleppey with Munnar or Kochi should plan six or seven days rather than trying to compress it.
