Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara Temples
The Hoysaleswara Temple and the adjacent Shantaleswara Temple are the centrepiece of Halebidu and together constitute the most ambitious and elaborate surviving architectural statement of the Hoysala dynasty. Construction on the Hoysaleswara Temple began in 1121 CE and was undertaken over decades by teams of sculptors working in the soft local chloritic schist soapstone, which allows for the extraordinary level of carving detail that covers every horizontal surface of the exterior walls in uninterrupted narrative and decorative bands. The Shantaleswara Temple, named for the queen Shantala, one of the consorts of King Vishnuvardhana and a renowned dancer, stands immediately adjacent and is its near-mirror image, creating a twin complex of unusual grandeur. Both temples were left without their tower superstructures when the Malik Kafur invasions halted construction, and this unfinished quality means that the attention of any visitor falls almost entirely on the sculptural programme rather than being divided between architecture and sculpture as at other temple sites. The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the complex and an on-site museum houses sculptures recovered from the site. Entry to the complex is free for Indian citizens. All travellers on a Bangalore to Halebidu taxi booking plan the bulk of their visit around this complex.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Nelamangala
Western city exit
The Bangalore to Halebidu cab journey begins on NH 75 heading west from the city, covering approximately 30 kilometres to Nelamangala before the highway opens into the more comfortable driving of the Karnataka plateau. Nelamangala is the first meaningful junction town on the western edge of Bangalore's extended urban area, where the NH 75 toward Hassan, Mangalore and the coast separates from other routes. It is the practical first pause point for fuel and a quick breakfast at one of the well-established highway restaurants that line the approach to the town. Departure from Bangalore before six-thirty on a weekday or six on a weekend is recommended to clear the city and reach Nelamangala before the outbound traffic peaks. The road from Bangalore to Nelamangala is generally good and the drive of around 40 to 50 minutes in moderate traffic sets up the longer and more comfortable highway run that follows. The short highlight: Nelamangala - western city exit; NH 75 junction for Hassan; fuel and first breakfast stop.

Channarayapatna
Gateway to Hoysala district
From Nelamangala, NH 75 runs southwest for approximately 125 kilometres through Kunigal and on to Channarayapatna. This is the longest and most straightforward stretch of the drive, covering the agricultural landscape between Bangalore's plateau and the greener countryside of the Hassan district on a well-maintained four-lane national highway. Kunigal, at around the 75-kilometre mark, is a practical quick stop for fuel or a short break. Channarayapatna, also known as CRP, is the junction town where travellers heading to Shravanabelagola turn off NH 75 onto a side road that leads 10 kilometres to the pilgrimage site. For travellers planning the full Hoysala circuit, this is the standard first detour: spending approximately two hours at Shravanabelagola before continuing toward Hassan. The pilgrimage to the Gomateshwara statue, which involves climbing and descending 614 rock-cut steps, works best in the cooler morning hours before ten, making the Channarayapatna junction the most logical point to break from the highway and visit the Jain monument. The short highlight: Kunigal - mid-route fuel stop; Channarayapatna - Shravanabelagola junction 10 km east; gateway to Hoysala district.

Hassan
District headquarters
From Channarayapatna, NH 75 continues for approximately 30 kilometres to Hassan, bringing the total from Bangalore to around 185 kilometres. Hassan is the district headquarters and the most practical base for a two-day exploration of the Hoysala circuit, with a good range of hotels, restaurants and urban facilities that Halebidu and Belur themselves do not offer. The Hasanamba Temple in Hassan town, which opens for darshan only one week each year during the Deepavali season, is a significant pilgrimage stop for travellers whose Bangalore to Halebidu cab trip coincides with that window. From Hassan, the road to Halebidu continues for a further 32 kilometres through pleasant agricultural countryside, and the road to Belur runs 35 kilometres in the opposite direction, making Hassan the practical pivot point for a circuit of both temple towns. The Shettihalli Rosary Church is 13 kilometres from Hassan and is included in the itinerary of most travellers staying overnight. The short highlight: Hassan - district headquarters and overnight base; Hasanamba Temple and Shettihalli Church access point.

Halebidu
Arrival in town
The final 32 kilometres from Hassan to Halebidu is a straightforward drive through the agricultural countryside of the Hassan district on a road that is well-surfaced for most of its length and passes through small villages and the occasional temple ruin before the main Halebidu complex comes into view. The approach to Halebidu is unassuming for a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the town is small and the temples are set within a low-walled compound that does not dominate the landscape the way a tall gopuram might. The horizontal character of the complex, spread across a single platform rather than towering upward, only becomes fully apparent once the visitor is inside the compound and stands before the exterior walls with their extraordinary carved surface. Most travellers on a Bangalore to Halebidu taxi departing the city by six or seven in the morning arrive at Halebidu by ten to eleven, either directly or after the Shravanabelagola stop, giving a full morning for the Hoysaleswara complex before the afternoon drive to Belur and Yagachi Dam. The short highlight: Final 32-km approach through Hassan district farmland; Hoysaleswara Temple gopura visible on arrival in town.

What Our Customers Say About Our Tempo Traveller Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Halebidu Tempo Traveller
Roughly 215 kilometres via NH-75 through Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan, taking 4.5 to 5 hours of actual driving. Allow around 6 hours door to door with breakfast and comfort breaks. Adding Shravanabelagola brings the total to about 240 kilometres and adds roughly two hours to the day.
Comfortably, provided you leave Bangalore by 5:30 am. The two sites are only 16 kilometres apart and together need about four hours. Our drivers usually suggest Halebidu first, since the main frieze photographs better in morning light, then Belur in the afternoon. Expect to be back in Bangalore around 9 pm.
The Hoysaleswara Temple is an Archaeological Survey of India monument and is generally open from around 6:30 am to 6:30 pm daily. Entry is free or nominally priced. The archaeological museum within the grounds charges a small separate fee and is closed on Fridays. Footwear must be removed at the temple platform, and timings can shift on festival days, so confirm locally.
We operate 9, 12, 14, 17 and 18 seater tempo travellers, all air-conditioned. The 12 seater suits families, the 17 seater works for extended groups, and the 18 seater is our standard choice for school excursions and college history departments. Pushback recliner variants are available in most sizes.
Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance. The balance is settled at trip end after the final garage-to-garage kilometre and hour calculation. Advance can be paid by UPI, bank transfer, card or net banking, with a receipt issued within 30 minutes.
The fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, interstate tax, GST, and extra driver bata for running after 9:45 pm are charged separately. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, so the closing figure may differ slightly from the initial estimate.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required by law, but individual passenger cover is not included. Travellers wanting personal accident or travel cover should arrange it independently before the trip.
If the vehicle is still running after 9:45 pm on any day of the trip, an additional driver bata applies for that day. It appears in the written quote before you confirm, so nothing is added at settlement. On a one-day Halebidu return this is common, because most groups reach Bangalore late, and we flag it upfront rather than at the end.
Yes. Licensed guides are available at the monument entrance and are worth engaging, since almost none of the narrative panels are labelled and the detail is easy to walk past. Guide fees are paid directly by the group and are not part of the vehicle quote. For school groups, booking a guide ahead through the ASI office avoids waiting.
Yes. Share your GST number and preferred invoicing format at enquiry stage. We issue a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval before travel and a final GST invoice after settlement. Registered corporate clients can opt for 30-day credit terms with monthly consolidated invoicing, and schools can be invoiced against a purchase order.
