Chennakeshava Temple, Belur

Chennakeshava Temple, Belur

The Chennakeshava Temple at Belur is one of the finest surviving examples of Hoysala architecture in the world and, since 2023, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas. Commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE on the banks of the Yagachi River and completed over three generations across 103 years, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Chennakeshava, meaning the handsome Kesava. The outer walls are covered in horizontal bands of friezes that run for hundreds of metres: elephants at the base representing stability, horses for speed, scrolling foliage, battle scenes, mythological narratives from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and celestial beings all stacked in registers of extraordinary intricacy. The interior features lathe-turned pillars, each carved differently, and the famous Madanika bracket figures, celestial damsels in different postures, are considered masterpieces of Indian medieval sculpture. No two bracket figures in the temple are identical. Travellers booking a Belur Halebidu cab from Bangalore almost always spend at least two hours here, which still leaves the feeling of having seen only a fraction of what the temple contains.

Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu

Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu

Halebidu, which means old capital in Kannada, was the Hoysala capital before it was sacked by the Malik Kafur-led Delhi Sultanate forces in the early fourteenth century, which halted construction on the temples midway and left them without the tower superstructures that were planned. Despite this, the Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara temples at Halebidu constitute the largest and most elaborate surviving Hoysala sculptural programme anywhere, with external walls that carry around 240 elephants, 650 horses, decorative scrollwork, demonic figures, scenes from the epics and Puranas, gods and goddesses, and naturalistic foliage, all executed in the local chloritic schist stone that softens with age. The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the complex and an on-site museum houses sculptures recovered from the site. Visitors who have already spent time at Belur often say Halebidu goes even deeper in the variety and scale of what is carved on the walls. This stop is included in every Hassan tour package from Bangalore we put together and typically requires one and a half to two hours for a considered walk around the complex.

Gomateshwara Statue, Shravanabelagola

Gomateshwara Statue, Shravanabelagola

Shravanabelagola, located about 50 kilometres from Hassan town, is one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in India and home to the Gomateshwara statue of Lord Bahubali, a 17-metre monolithic figure carved from a single granite rock that stands on the summit of the Vindhyagiri Hill. Completed around 983 CE during the Ganga dynasty, the statue is considered the world's tallest free-standing monolithic statue and is visible from a considerable distance across the surrounding plains. Reaching it requires climbing around 614 steps cut into the hillside, which takes most visitors around 20 to 30 minutes and offers increasingly panoramic views of the surrounding countryside with every hundred steps climbed. Every twelve years the Mahamastakabhisheka festival takes place here, during which the statue is anointed with milk, curds, ghee, saffron and gold coins in a ceremony that draws hundreds of thousands of devotees from across the world. For travellers on a one way cab Bangalore to Hassan or a round trip booking who want to include this on their itinerary, it is best planned as the first stop given the morning light on the statue and the less crowded steps.

Shettihalli Rosary Church

Shettihalli Rosary Church

The Shettihalli Rosary Church is one of the most visually striking and photographically compelling heritage sites in all of Karnataka: a French Gothic church built by missionaries in the mid-nineteenth century that was partially submerged when the Hemavathi reservoir was filled in the 1960s. What remains above the waterline is the roofless stone structure of the church, with its arched windows, walls covered in moss and lichen, and the surrounding water giving the entire scene an otherworldly, melancholic beauty that is unlike anything else in the region. The level of submersion varies through the year: between November and June, when the reservoir is lower, more of the church is visible and accessible, while the monsoon months bring the water up to the window level and the church appears to float. Travellers booking a Bangalore to Hassan car rental for a stay of two or more days frequently include Shettihalli on a morning drive, since it is only around 13 kilometres from Hassan town and can be combined with the Gorur Dam visit.

Gorur Dam and Hemavathi Reservoir

Gorur Dam and Hemavathi Reservoir

Gorur Dam, built across the Hemavathi River around 20 kilometres from Hassan town, is one of the most pleasant nature stops in the district, primarily visited for its calm reservoir views, the wide grassy banks that make for a relaxed picnic spot, and the surrounding greenery that is particularly lush through the monsoon and post-monsoon months. The dam itself is a significant water source for the region, and the backwaters extend far into the forested hillside, creating a landscape that is tranquil and somewhat different in character from the stone temples that dominate most Hassan itineraries. Families with children visiting on a Hassan tour package from Bangalore often find this the most relaxing stop of the day, a place where the pace slows down after the concentrated attention that Belur and Halebidu demand. Boating is available at certain times and the local food stalls near the dam serve coffee and snacks from the surrounding agricultural area.

Hasanamba Temple

Hasanamba Temple

The Hasanamba Temple in Hassan town is dedicated to the goddess Hasanamba, from whose name the city of Hassan derives its own, and it is one of the most unusual temples in Karnataka for the singular reason that it is open to worshippers for only one week each year, during the Deepavali festival season, before the doors are closed again for the remainder of the year. Legend holds that the lamps within the sanctum sanctorum, lit at the time of closing, continue to burn until the temple reopens the following year, and the prasad flowers offered at the time of closing are found fresh when the doors open again. The temple draws enormous crowds of devotees during its brief annual opening, but is also visited as a landmark and a piece of local history by travellers exploring the town between their visits to Belur and Halebidu. Travellers who happen to time their Bangalore to Hassan cab trip during the Deepavali season can include the darshan in their itinerary with advance planning.

Yagachi Dam and Adventure Camp

Yagachi Dam and Adventure Camp

The Yagachi Dam on the Yagachi River near Belur has developed into one of the more popular adventure and picnic destinations in the Hassan district, partly because of its proximity to the Chennakeshava Temple and partly because the dam's backwaters offer a setting that is visually quite different from the stone temples that form the main draw of the region. Activities available at the Karnataka government's adventure camp on the reservoir banks include kayaking, coracle rides, swimming, and a range of tented accommodation options for travellers who want to stay overnight close to the Belur temples rather than returning to Hassan town. Younger travellers and families who want to balance temple heritage with outdoor activity often include a two-hour stop at Yagachi on the same day as their Belur visit, pairing the cultural weight of the Hoysala temple with something more physical and outdoors-oriented.

Lakshmi Devi Temple, Doddagaddavalli

Lakshmi Devi Temple, Doddagaddavalli

The Lakshmi Devi Temple at Doddagaddavalli is a lesser-known but architecturally exceptional Hoysala temple located in a small village around 16 kilometres from Hassan town, and it is one of the few Hoysala temples that features four shrines arranged around a common hall rather than the more typical single or twin shrine layout. Built in the twelfth century and dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the temple is remarkably well-preserved and sees a fraction of the visitor numbers that Belur and Halebidu attract, which means it can be explored in an unhurried and contemplative way that is difficult at the more famous sites. Historians and architecture enthusiasts booking a Bangalore to Hassan cab for a focused study of Hoysala architecture often specifically request this temple as an addition to the standard Belur-Halebidu itinerary, since its unusual plan and the quality of its carvings make it a genuinely important addition to the Hoysala circuit.

Bangalore to Hassan Tempo Traveller Packages

A heritage day trip, a school excursion and a family pilgrimage are three different journeys over the same 185 kilometres. These five structures exist so that groups pay for what they actually need. All include fuel, a police-verified driver, GPS tracking and round-the-clock support, and none carries a permit charge, because this route does not need one.

Heritage Day Trip Package

The signature package on this route and the reason most groups call. One vehicle, one driver, one day: Bangalore to Shravanabelagola to Belur to lunch to Halebidu and home, with the driver waiting at each site for as long as the group takes. Because the 300 kilometre daily minimum applies regardless, a full-day round trip covering the whole circuit costs only marginally more than a one-way drop into Hassan, which is why we recommend it to almost everybody. Expect around 450 kilometres in total once the local legs are counted. Departure at six, back in Bangalore by eight in the evening.

Family Package

A 12 seater tempo traveller bangalore to hassan carries three generations to a circuit that suits them unusually well, because Hassan offers both ends of the effort scale within the same day. Belur and Halebidu are level walking circuits that anyone can manage; Shravanabelagola is 614 barefoot steps for whoever wants them while the rest wait comfortably at the base. Grandparents get an aisle seat with an armrest rather than a squeezed middle row, and the vehicle becomes the group's fixed point across four sites. Round-trip family bookings carry a ten percent discount.

School and College Excursion Package

This is the strongest educational excursion route within reach of Bangalore, and we run a great many of them. A single day, no interstate permit, no ghat road, four sites of genuine curriculum relevance covering Hoysala architecture, Jain heritage and colonial history, and a return before dark. A 17 seater tempo traveller bangalore to hassan carries a full class section with accompanying staff, bookings come with verified drivers and a documented itinerary the institution can circulate to parents, and multi-vehicle groups are convoy-coordinated. See our student transportation management service for institutional accounts.

Corporate and Luxury Package

Heritage offsites have become a popular alternative to the standard resort weekend, and Hassan works because it is close enough for a single day. The luxury tempo traveller bangalore tier delivers high-back recliners with footrests, dual-zone climate control, individual reading lights, per-seat USB charging and premium audio, with the Force Urbania at the top of the range. GST tax invoices are issued within twenty-four hours and Proforma Invoices are available for purchase-order approval through our corporate travel desk. The Force Urbania is the usual choice for executive groups.

Budget and Pilgrimage Package

For friend groups, student batches and temple committees, a 12 or 13 seater at Rs 22 per kilometre against the 300 kilometre minimum works out to roughly Rs 500 per person for a full-day group booking, which no other arrangement matches. Vehicles are standard AC with 2+1 push-back seating, overhead racks and full-length curtains. For Jain groups visiting Shravanabelagola and Hindu devotees timing a visit for the Hasanamba opening, itineraries are built around darshan timings rather than driving times through our outstation vehicle booking desk.

Other Popular Tempo Traveller Routes from Bangalore

Hassan sits at the junction of several of our most requested routes, and combines easily with all of them. Each is available as a tempo traveller for outstation bangalore booking on the same terms.

Bangalore to Belur, 220 km

The same road, taken as a destination rather than a stop, for groups whose only interest is the Hoysala temples. Belur and Halebidu with an overnight at Yagachi. Book through our Belur route page.

Bangalore to Sakleshpur, 220 km

Forty kilometres beyond Hassan at the lip of the Western Ghats. Coffee estates, the Manjarabad star fort and the old railway trek. Easily added to a Hassan itinerary as a second night without changing vehicles.

Bangalore to Mangalore, 355 km

Continue on the same NH75 past Hassan and Sakleshpur, down the Shiradi Ghat to the coast. Groups often run Hassan, Chikmagalur and Mangalore as a single Western Ghats circuit over four or five days.

Bangalore to Mysore, 150 km

The other great single-day heritage run from the city, and the one that pairs with Hassan to complete the Hoysala listing, since Somanathapura sits on the Mysore side. Palace, Chamundi Hill and Brindavan Gardens. Book through our outstation travel desk.

How to Book Your Bangalore to Hassan Tempo Traveller

Booking a vehicle for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Four steps, start to finish.

Step 1: Contact Tejas Travels

Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. The line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tell us your travel date, your Bangalore pickup location, which can be an area or a landmark such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, a hotel name or a tech park, your destination or full itinerary, the number of passengers and your preferred vehicle. If the pickup is from KIA airport, include the flight number: the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing automatically for delayed flights. For luxury vehicles such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Rolls-Royce, mention the occasion as well, whether corporate, wedding or VIP event, so the team can assign the best-condition vehicle and, where required, arrange formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote

A written quote reaches you by WhatsApp or email within two hours of your enquiry. It itemises every charge: the vehicle hire rate, whether per kilometre or as a flat package, the driver allowance at Rs 400 to 1,000 per day depending on vehicle class, applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit that applies, such as Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad or Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati. No permit applies to Hassan, which stays within Karnataka throughout. Nothing is quoted verbally only. Everything is in writing before you confirm. Corporate clients who need the figure for reimbursement can request a Proforma Invoice at this stage. If you want to weigh up two vehicle classes against each other, ask for both quotes at the same time.

Step 3: Confirm Your Booking and Pay the Advance

Once the written quote works for you, confirm by WhatsApp or phone. An advance of 15 to 20 percent locks in the booking. Pay by UPI through Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm, by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link. Your advance receipt arrives within thirty minutes. The confirmation that follows carries the driver's name and mobile number, the vehicle registration, the departure time, the pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing. For luxury vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S-Class, the advance may be higher, because the fleet is limited and Bangalore peak dates, meaning the November to February wedding season and New Year, book out early.

Step 4: Your Driver Arrives Early

Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point fifteen minutes before the scheduled departure, and calls you thirty minutes ahead as a courtesy. For KIA airport transfers he coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle arrives clean, sanitised, fuelled and ready, and for wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire. Through the journey he handles routing, toll payments and Bangalore traffic navigation. At the end of the trip the balance is settled after deducting the advance, with any additional kilometres or hours billed at the rate agreed upfront.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote within two hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts every major digital and traditional payment method, both for the advance and for the final settlement at the end of the trip.

UPI is the fastest route and the one we recommend for all advance deposits. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay are all accepted, and confirmation is instant on receipt.

Bank transfer by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS suits corporate clients and any advance above Rs 5,000. IMPS clears instantly; NEFT can take up to two hours.

Credit and debit cards on Visa, Mastercard and RuPay are accepted through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email, valid for both the advance and full payment.

Net banking from all major Indian banks works through the same payment link by WhatsApp or email, and is the preferred route for Bangalore IT corporates running purchase-order based approvals.

Cash is accepted for the balance at the end of the trip, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

Corporate credit is available to registered corporate accounts on 30-day terms, with monthly consolidated invoicing on request.

A note on luxury vehicles: for the Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class, a higher advance may be required, given limited fleet availability in Bangalore and demand through the wedding season.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation policy is tiered, fair and transparent, and every term is confirmed to you in writing at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Hassan Tempo Traveller

The bangalore to hassan tempo traveller price starts at Rs 9,750 for a 12 TT, since Hassan at 185 kilometres one way falls below it. A full-day round trip covering the whole Hoysala circuit runs to around 450 kilometres and is quoted on the actual distance. All rates are garage-to-garage with fuel included, and there is no permit charge on this route.

A daily minimum of 300 kilometres applies to every outstation booking regardless of destination, which covers the vehicle being committed to your group for the day. Hassan is 185 kilometres one way, so a one-way drop is billed at the 300 kilometre minimum anyway. The practical consequence is that a full-day round trip covering Belur, Halebidu and Shravanabelagola costs only marginally more than a one-way drop into Hassan town. That is why we recommend the round trip to almost every group asking about this route.

Three and a half to four and a half hours to Hassan town including one break, with actual driving time closer to three hours in light traffic. NH75 is good four-lane highway the whole way with no ghat section, so the only real variable is the Nelamangala junction on the way out. Belur is a further forty-five minutes past Hassan.

Yes, comfortably, provided you leave Bangalore by six and plan the order properly. The working itinerary is Shravanabelagola on the way in, turning off at Channarayapatna, then Belur late morning, lunch, Halebidu in the afternoon, and back in Bangalore by around eight in the evening. That is roughly 450 kilometres in total. If anyone in the group wants to spend serious time at each site, split it over two days with a night in Hassan.

Shravanabelagola first, then Belur, then Halebidu. Two reasons. The 614 steps at Shravanabelagola are climbed barefoot and the granite becomes genuinely painful underfoot by late morning, so early is far more comfortable. And Belur's carvings are at their best in low morning light, which rakes across the friezes and shows the depth of the relief in a way that midday sun flattens completely. Halebidu's broader wall surfaces suit softer afternoon light. Tell your driver the order before you set off.

No. Hassan is in Karnataka, so the whole journey runs on the standard state permit with no border check post, no additional paperwork and nothing extra to pay. Combined with the short distance and the absence of any ghat section, this is the simplest outstation route we run to arrange at short notice. Permits become relevant only on interstate routes such as Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad or Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati.

For roughly one week each year, during the Deepavali season, after which the doors close until the following year. Local belief holds that the lamps lit at closing burn until reopening and that the flowers offered are found fresh. Crowds during the opening week are very large and queues run for hours, so a group visit then needs planning well in advance rather than improvisation on the day. Outside that week the exterior and the surrounding town are still worth twenty minutes if you are in Hassan.

Yes, and on this route that is the entire point. The sites are 30 to 50 kilometres apart in three different directions, so the vehicle is your group's fixed point for the whole day. The driver waits at each site for as long as you take, with no waiting charge on a round-trip booking. Local kilometres are added to the garage-to-garage total at the same per-kilometre rate. At Shettihalli the final approach track is rough, so he parks short and the group walks the last stretch.

It is the best one within reach of Bangalore, and we run a lot of them. A single day, no interstate permit, no ghat road, four sites covering Hoysala architecture, Jain heritage and colonial history, and a return before dark. A 17 or 18 seater carries a full class section with accompanying staff. Bookings come with verified drivers and a documented itinerary the institution can circulate to parents, and larger groups are convoy-coordinated across multiple vehicles.

An advance of 20 percent confirms the booking and holds the vehicle for your date, paid by UPI, bank transfer or card link, with the receipt issued within thirty minutes. Tejas Travels is GST registered and issues a tax invoice with GSTIN, vehicle details and a full fare breakdown within 24 hours of trip completion. A Proforma Invoice can be issued in advance for purchase-order approval, which is standard for school and corporate bookings. See our corporate travel services for account setup.
