Places to Visit in Badami

Badami Cave Temples

Badami Cave Temples

The four rock-cut Badami cave temples are the reason most travellers book a cab to this town in the first place. Carved directly into the red sandstone cliff between the sixth and eighth centuries, the caves house Hindu, Jain, and Vaishnava shrines with some of the finest early Chalukyan sculpture in India, including an eighteen-armed Nataraja and a striking Vishnu reclining on the serpent Ananta. Climbing between the four levels takes a couple of hours and rewards visitors with a sweeping view of Agastya Lake below. Visit early morning or late afternoon when the light on the sandstone turns a deep amber and the crowds thin out, making it easier to study the carvings in the pillared verandahs without rushing.

Visit early morning or late afternoon when the light on the sandstone turns a deep amber and the crowds thin out, making it easier to study the carvings in the pillared verandahs without rushing.

Agastya Lake

Agastya Lake

Sitting at the foot of the cave temples, Agastya Lake is a spring-fed water tank believed to have healing properties and is considered one of the sacred tanks associated with the sage Agastya. The stepped ghats around the lake are lined with shrines, and the reflection of the fort walls and temple spires on the still water is one of the most photographed sights in Badami. Locals still bathe here during festivals, and the walkway around the lake connects almost every major monument in town, so it works well as a central orientation point once your cab drops you at the entrance.

Bhutanatha Temple Complex

Bhutanatha Temple Complex

Two clusters of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva as Bhutanatha stand directly across the lake from the caves, and the eastern group is easily the most photographed monument in Badami thanks to its position against the cliff and the water. Built through the early Chalukyan and later Kalyani Chalukya periods, the complex mixes Dravidian and Nagara architectural elements in a way rarely seen together elsewhere in Karnataka. Reaching it involves a short walk around the lake, and the temple is at its best right after sunrise when boatmen ferry pilgrims across and the sandstone cliffs behind glow orange.

Badami Fort

Badami Fort

Built originally by the Chalukyas and reinforced later by Tipu Sultan, Badami Fort climbs the northern hill above the town and is reached through a flight of rock-cut steps guarded by old watchtowers. Inside, the fort complex has a lower and upper Shivalaya, a granary, and cannon emplacements that once controlled the entire valley. Entry to the fort area is free, and the climb, though a little steep in places, takes under an hour. The summit gives an uninterrupted view of Agastya Lake, the cave temples, and the town rooftops, and is one of the better sunset points in the region.

Banashankari Temple

Banashankari Temple

About five kilometres from the main town, Banashankari Temple is dedicated to the presiding deity of the Chalukya and Kalachuri dynasties and remains one of the most active pilgrimage sites in the Bagalkot district. The temple tank, surrounded by a covered stone corridor with over a hundred pillars, hosts the annual Banashankari Jatre, a temple fair that draws thousands of devotees every January and February. Even outside festival season, the temple's dark stone architecture and the quiet corridor around the tank make it a peaceful stop, and most Badami taxi itineraries include it as a short detour on the way in or out of town.

Pattadakal (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Pattadakal (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site roughly twenty two kilometres from Badami, Pattadakal was where Chalukyan kings were formally crowned, and its temple complex is often described as the meeting point of North and South Indian temple architecture. Ten major temples stand within a single walled enclosure, mixing Dravidian towers like the Virupaksha and Mallikarjuna temples with Nagara style shrines such as the Kashi Vishwanatha and Papanatha temples. Virupaksha, the largest of the group, was built to commemorate a Chalukyan victory over the Pallavas and later inspired the design of the Kailasanatha temple at Ellora, which makes this stop essential for anyone interested in the evolution of Indian temple design.

Aihole

Aihole

Known as the cradle of Indian temple architecture, Aihole sits about thirty five kilometres from Badami and contains more than a hundred temples built between the sixth and twelfth centuries, ranging from simple flat roofed shrines to the more evolved Durga Temple with its curved apsidal end and surrounding gallery. Many of these structures functioned as architectural experiments, which is why the styles here vary so widely within a small area. The Ladkhan and Meguti temples are also worth the walk, and because the site is spread across the village, a full visit with a waiting cab typically takes two to three unhurried hours.

Mahakuta Temple Complex

Mahakuta Temple Complex

Roughly fourteen kilometres from Badami, the Mahakuta temple complex is built around two natural spring fed tanks believed to be sacred to Lord Shiva, and the site was an important early Chalukyan religious centre even before Badami itself rose to prominence. Devotees still take a ritual dip in the tanks, and the surrounding cluster of small Shiva shrines, mixed with coconut and banana groves, gives the place a quieter, more rural feel than the more visited monuments in town. It pairs naturally with Pattadakal and Aihole on a full day sightseeing loop out of Badami.

Tempo Traveller Packages for the Bangalore to Badami Route

Four package structures, all covering the same 455 kilometre route, differing in vehicle class, schedule and billing format.

Corporate Package

Built for offsites, team outings and MICE groups from Manyata, Whitefield, Electronic City and Bagmane tech parks. GST invoice against your PO, Proforma Invoice at quote stage, 30-day credit terms for registered accounts, and consolidated monthly billing. Vehicles are Executive-class 17 or 20 seaters with charging points at every row, and the driver reports to your designated coordinator. For requirements beyond a single trip, our corporate travels division handles annual contracts for the same fleet.

Family Package

For multi-generational groups of ten to eighteen doing the Badami-Banashankari-Mahakuta circuit. Flexible halt timing so elderly members are not rushed, a wide-door 14 seater with lower step height, extra luggage space, and an itinerary built around temple timings rather than a fixed clock. Most families take the three-day format, and this is the most-booked bangalore to badami tempo traveller package we run.

Budget Package

For student groups, photography clubs and heritage societies where per-head cost decides the trip. Standard AC 12 or 17 seater, efficient two-day format, value-for-money meal halts. Filling the vehicle is what makes this work: a fully occupied 17 seater brings the per-person round-trip cost below a train ticket plus local transport.

Luxury Package

Maharaja-configuration tempo traveller with recliner seats, reading lights, LED entertainment, curtains, cooler box and a partitioned rear lounge. Suited to senior travellers, wedding guest groups and clients who want the nine-hour drive to feel like part of the holiday. To go a step further, the Force Urbania with its higher roof and premium cabin is the natural upgrade on this route.

Our Services from Bangalore and Mysore

Tejas Tours and Travels operates a full ground-transport fleet out of both Bengaluru and Mysuru. Every service listed here is available on the Badami corridor and on every other outstation route we cover.

Larger groups move to our mini bus in Bangalore fleet for 21 to 35 passengers, or to full-size bus rental in Bangalore for 35 to 55. For premium long-distance group travel we operate a dedicated Volvo luxury bus fleet with pushback seating and onboard entertainment.

Beyond leisure travel, we run corporate travels Bangalore contracts for IT and manufacturing clients, airport transfer Bangalore services with live flight tracking for Kempegowda airport taxi pickups, structured employee transportation services Bangalore with night shift cab service and tech park routes, and safe school transportation services covering daily school bus service, excursions and college trip bus rental.

How to Book a Tempo Traveller for Hire in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a tempo traveller for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•      Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•      Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle.

•      For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

•      For luxury vehicles, also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•      Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•      The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs per km or flat package), driver allowance, applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati).

•      No verbal-only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

•      For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage.

•      If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•      Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•      A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.

•      Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•      Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•      Confirmation includes driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing.

•      For peak dates such as the Banashankari Jatre, Dasara and New Year, book early. Fleet availability on the Badami corridor tightens well ahead of these windows.

Step 4 — Your Driver Arrives Early

•      Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•      For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate.

•      The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled and ready.

•      For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire.

•      The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•      During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments and traffic navigation.

•      At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods — Tempo Traveller Hire in Bangalore

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both the advance booking and the final settlement at trip end.

•      UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI, Amazon Pay. Fastest method with instant confirmation on receipt. Recommended for all advance deposits.

•      Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS or RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 5,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Badami Tempo Traveller

The road distance is 455 kilometres via Hosapete on NH48 and NH50. The alternative route via Hubballi is 510 kilometres. In a tempo traveller, allow 8 hours 30 minutes to 9 hours 30 minutes including two comfort halts and a meal stop. Leaving Bengaluru before 6 am makes a genuine difference to arrival time.

A 12 seater AC tempo traveller starts at Rs 24,000 for a two-day return itinerary, a 17 seater from Rs 26,500 and a 26 seater from Rs 34,000. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage. Send us your dates and group size on WhatsApp and you will have an itemized written quote within two hours.

The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Toll and parking, interstate tax, driver bata after 9:45 pm and GST are charged separately. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours calculated garage to garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels.

Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance. The advance can be paid by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card via payment link, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance.

Yes, but it makes for a long day. With your own vehicle and a 7 am start from Badami, Pattadakal at 22 kilometres and Aihole at 35 kilometres are both comfortably reachable, and Mahakuta fits on the way back. Most groups split it across two days so the cave temples are not rushed.

Three days works best. Day one is the drive with a Chitradurga halt and the cave temples in the afternoon. Day two covers Pattadakal, Aihole and Mahakuta. Day three is the return with time for Chitradurga Fort or a Hampi detour. Two days is possible but leaves little room.

We operate 12, 14, 17, and 18 seater tempo travellers, in Standard AC, Executive and Maharaja luxury configurations. For groups above 26, we move you to our mini bus or full-size bus fleet. All vehicles carry valid all-India permits, GPS and first-aid kits.

Yes. The first 260 kilometres on NH48 are excellent four-lane highway. The stretch beyond Chitradurga is good two-lane and four-lane state highway with light traffic. There are no ghat sections on this route, which makes it noticeably easier than Coorg or Ooty for elderly passengers and large groups.

October to March. The sandstone gets uncomfortably hot from April to June, and the caves are best explored in cool weather. The Banashankari Jatre in January or February is spectacular but crowded, so book your vehicle several weeks ahead if you are travelling then.

Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Charges then step up: 10 per cent at 48 to 72 hours, 25 per cent at 24 to 48 hours, 50 per cent at 12 to 24 hours and 75 per cent under 12 hours. If Tejas Travels cancels for any operational reason, you get a full refund within 2 working days or a substitute vehicle.
