Places to Visit in Virajpet

Virajpet Town and St Anne Church
The town was founded in 1792 by Vira Rajendra of the Haleri line, who commemorated a treaty here and built a church for the Christians of his territory in the same year - St Anne, one of the oldest in this part of Karnataka, with a bell said to have come from a European foundry. The clock tower in the centre is the other landmark. Virajpet is a coffee and honey trading town rather than a sightseeing one; visit for an hour, buy honey from the traders, and treat it as your base rather than your destination.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Maddur
Home of the Maddur Vada
The Mysore highway is the best road out of Bangalore and the exit is straightforward once past Kengeri. Our drivers aim to be clear of the city before 7:30 AM; this route is more forgiving on timing than most of ours, but weekend traffic toward Mysore builds properly by mid-morning. Ramanagara is the silk cocoon capital of Asia, with the granite hills alongside familiar from a great deal of film. Channapatna follows, where lacquered wooden toys have been turned since Tipu Sultan brought artisans from Persia - the craft carries a GI tag and the shops are on the highway. Maddur is where the vada was invented and where most travellers stop for it.

Mysore
City of Palaces
Sugarcane country through Mandya, where the KRS dam and the Cauvery canals made the district what it is. Srirangapatna sits on an island in the river a little further on and holds a great deal - the Ranganathaswamy temple, the Daria Daulat Bagh with its painted walls, the Gumbaz, and the spot where Tipu fell in 1799. An hour there is well spent if the day allows. Mysore is the natural breakfast halt and needs no introduction. On a Coorg run most groups pass through, though for anyone with a spare half day the palace and Chamundi Hills are right there. Beyond Mysore the road turns west and the country begins to change.

Gonikoppal
Coffee Market Town of South Kodagu
Seventy-five kilometres west and south-west on good two-lane road, with the country turning from the dry Mysore plain into something greener as the Kodagu foothills approach. Hunsur is a tobacco and trading town and the turn for the Nagarhole gates, which sit around forty kilometres south-west of it. The road crosses into Kodagu and the change is immediate - coffee under shade trees, pepper vines on the trunks, and the light going green. Gonikoppal is a working coffee market town and the commercial centre of the southern half of the district; between here and Virajpet the estates are continuous.

Virajpet
Town of Vira Rajendra
Thirty kilometres of estate road, gently climbing, with coffee on both sides and the Brahmagiri range visible to the south on a clear day. This is some of the more attractive short driving in Karnataka and it takes about forty minutes. Virajpet is compact - a clock tower, St Anne church from 1792, coffee and honey traders, and a market. It is a town people use rather than visit, which is exactly its value: the homestays around it are on working estates rather than in resort compounds, and Igguthappa, Nalknad, Tadiandamol and Iruppu are all closer from here than from Madikeri. Many estate properties sit on unlit private lanes, so send us the name at booking and we will confirm the approach. A 7:00 AM departure puts most travellers in by around 1:00 PM.

Minibus Packages for the Bangalore to Virajpet Route
Corporate Package
Coorg is among the most-booked corporate offsite destinations from Bangalore, and South Coorg is the quieter half of it. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. A corporate minibus bangalore booking here usually runs Friday to Sunday with an estate stay, a trek or a plantation walk, and a Nagarhole safari, which means the vehicle works to an activity schedule rather than a sightseeing one. Virajpet suits a corporate offsite coorg brief particularly well because the properties are estate homestays rather than conference hotels, and teams end up walking and talking rather than sitting in a hall. Our corporate travels desk manages the arrangement end to end, including checking coach access with the property.
Family Package
Extended families and multi-generation groups, where the itinerary has to work for people who will climb Thadiyandamol and people who will not. This is the package that most needs planning rather than just a vehicle. We build the day so that Nalknad Palace, the Igguthappa temple and a plantation walk absorb the non-trekkers while the rest of the group is on the mountain, with the vehicle positioned to move between them. Chelavara Falls is flagged for anyone unsteady on wet rock. Coorg’s short distances are an advantage here: nothing is more than an hour away, so the group can split and regroup within the same day, which is not possible on most of our routes.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking — college batches, trekking clubs, community associations and school parties. Non-AC 12 to 17 seater mini buses, point to point, clean vehicle, verified driver, no frills. The mini bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and Kodagu’s climate makes it a genuinely comfortable choice for most of the year, unlike our North Karnataka routes where summer heat forces the AC decision. The Mysore stretch warms up between March and May, but the moment you pass Titimati the temperature drops. Trekking groups on a school excursion bus rental bangalore or college booking are among our most frequent customers on this corridor, and the smaller vehicles in this tier are also the ones most likely to reach a budget homestay at the end of an estate track.
Luxury Package
Executive mini coach configuration with fewer, wider push-back seats, extra legroom, better sound insulation and premium interiors. Coorg is a short enough drive that comfort matters less on the road than it does on our nine-hour routes, but it matters a good deal on the estate roads, where a well-sprung vehicle makes an unpaved kilometre feel like nothing. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family trips and groups staying at the higher-end estate resorts. For a further step up on the same route, our luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration handles narrow plantation tracks particularly well and is our most-requested premium vehicle for Coorg.
Our Minibus Fleet in Bangalore
Our ac minibus rental bangalore fleet covers 12, 14, 17, 20 and 24 seater configurations. We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you between categories without restarting the process — which on this route also affects whether your vehicle can reach the property.
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC. The 12 to 17 seaters reach most Coorg estate properties; the 20 and 24 seaters need checking
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller groups on the same corridor
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van, well suited to plantation roads
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches. Workable to Virajpet town, rarely to an estate homestay
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova and Commuter through Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On a six-hour daytime route this is not a consideration, and we would not recommend arriving at a Coorg estate after dark in any case.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already approved. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where the itinerary crosses a state border
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
Bangalore to Virajpet stays within Karnataka, so no interstate permit applies. Extending into Kerala for Wayanad, Thalassery or the Iruppu-side border crossings does require one, and it is quoted as a separate line item. The Bangalore-Mysore expressway carries tolls, so the toll estimate on this route is higher than the short distance suggests.
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. This is built into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. This is worth noting for a Coorg trip involving trekking: Thadiyandamol and the Brahmagiri trails are managed by the forest department and any arrangements there are separate from us. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across our fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Virajpet Minibus
The bangalore to virajpet distance by road is approximately 265 kilometres via the Bangalore-Mysore expressway, then Hunsur, Titimati and Gonikoppal. Allow 6 to 7 hours including a breakfast halt. The expressway has taken close to an hour off this journey compared with a few years ago, and the only real variable now is how long it takes to clear Bangalore at the start. A 6:00 AM departure puts a group in Virajpet by early afternoon with the rest of the day free.
Because of where South Coorg’s attractions are. Kakkabe with Nalknad Palace and the Thadiyandamol trailhead is about twenty-five kilometres from Virajpet and closer to sixty from Madikeri. Chelavara Falls is under twenty. The Nagarhole Kutta gate is around forty, Iruppu about fifty, and Bhagamandala forty. From Madikeri each of those is a longer drive on the same narrow roads. Groups that base themselves in the north spend an extra hour or two a day in the vehicle. If your itinerary is built around Raja’s Seat and Abbey Falls then Madikeri is right; if it is built around trekking, Nagarhole and the Kodava heartland, Virajpet is.
Sometimes, and this is the thing to settle before booking rather than after. Most Coorg accommodation is estate homestays reached by private plantation roads, often unpaved, sometimes steep, occasionally with low branches across the track. A 12, 14 or 17 seater generally gets in. A 20 or 24 seater sometimes cannot, and a track that was fine in January may not be in July. Tell us the property name at enquiry stage and we will check. Where access is doubtful, the group transfers for the last stretch in the host’s jeep — most estates will arrange this — or we suggest two smaller vehicles instead of one.
Pricing starts from Rs 16,660. The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately at actuals are toll and parking, interstate tax where the itinerary crosses a state border, additional driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Expressway tolls make the toll line higher than the distance suggests. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage.
October to February is the best window: the monsoon has just finished, the estates are green, the waterfalls are running and the weather is cool. March to May is warm and dry, and the coffee blossom in March or April is worth timing a trip around if you can. June to September brings very heavy rain to Kodagu, and while the district is at its most beautiful, this is also when estate roads become difficult and the region has seen serious landslides in recent years. We monitor road conditions closely through the season and will advise honestly if we think a route is unwise.
We handle the transport to and from both, and we schedule around them. Nagarhole safaris are run by the forest department in their own vehicles, on fixed morning and afternoon timings with limited capacity, so book slots well ahead for a group of twenty and share the timings with us. Thadiyandamol needs an early start from the Nalknad Palace side, so tell us at enquiry stage — a pre-dawn departure changes how we plan the previous evening. Forest permissions for both rest with the department and any arrangements there are separate from our booking.
No. The route stays within Karnataka throughout. A Kerala extension does require a permit — Wayanad is the common case, and the Iruppu side sits close to the border — and it is billed at actuals as a separate line item. We arrange all permit documentation before departure in those cases, so nothing is left for your group to handle at a checkpoint.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific mini bus variant on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. Coorg is the single most heavily booked weekend destination out of Bangalore, so for long weekends and the October to February season, book as far ahead as you can.
Yes, and on this route it is the only sensible way to do it. Coorg’s attractions are spread across short distances on slow roads, and a group without its own vehicle is effectively stuck at the homestay. The same mini bus and driver stay with you throughout, covering Kakkabe, the Igguthappa temple, Chelavara, the Kutta gate, Iruppu, Bhagamandala and Madikeri as your itinerary requires. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise plan at enquiry and we quote the whole trip as one figure.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats, which on a six-hour daytime route is not a consideration — and we would not recommend arriving at a Coorg estate after dark in any case. On insurance: we do not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered, which is worth thinking about on a trip that includes trekking. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com. Our mini bus booking online and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
