Places to Visit in Lakkundi

Kasivisvesvara Temple

Kasivisvesvara Temple

The finest building at Lakkundi and one of the finest Kalyani Chalukya temples anywhere - a twin shrine with the Kasivisvesvara facing a smaller Surya Narayana temple across a shared court, so the two look at each other. The doorframes and the pierced stone windows carry carving of a density that repays close and slow attention, and the tower is a late Chalukya form worked with real confidence. Visit in the morning when the light reaches the east face. Allow an hour, which is more than most people give it and less than it deserves.

Visit in the morning when the light reaches the east face. Allow an hour, which is more than most people give it and less than it deserves.

Brahma Jinalaya

Brahma Jinalaya

The largest Jain temple at Lakkundi, dedicated to Mahavira and built around 1007 by Attimabbe - a woman of the Chalukya court remembered as Danachintamani, the wish-fulfilling jewel of charity, who commissioned temples and had copies of a Kannada Jain epic made and distributed. It is the earlier building here and shows the sandstone manner before the shift, which makes it the useful thing to look at first. Visit before the Kasivisvesvara so the material difference registers. The patron is worth knowing about; there is very little about her on the ground.

Manikesvara and the Musukina Bhavi

Manikesvara and the Musukina Bhavi

The Manikesvara temple stands beside the Musukina Bhavi, a covered stepwell with a shrine set into its descent and pillared galleries around the water - the finest of the Lakkundi kalyanis and the one that best shows what these structures were: not utilities but architecture. In a district this dry the stepwells were the reason the town existed. Visit in the late afternoon when the light drops into the well. Steps are uneven and there are no railings, which is worth knowing with small children or elderly travellers.

The Stepwells and the ASI Museum

The Stepwells and the ASI Museum

Something close to a hundred stepwells survive around Lakkundi in varying condition, from substantial galleried structures to plain tanks, and they are scattered through the village rather than signposted. The Archaeological Survey maintains a small site museum holding sculpture, inscriptions and architectural fragments recovered locally, which is the best available introduction to what you are looking at. Visit the museum first if it is open - hours are limited and it closes on some days - and then walk. A local guide is genuinely useful here in a way it is not at more organised sites.

Gadag and the Trikuteshwara

Gadag and the Trikuteshwara

Twelve kilometres away, Gadag holds the Trikuteshwara temple complex - three linked shrines with a Saraswati temple alongside whose carved pillars are among the most elaborate lathe-turned work in the Chalukya repertoire, deeply undercut and almost impossible to photograph adequately. The town itself is a cotton and handloom centre. Visit the Saraswati shrine specifically; the pillars are the reason to go and most visitors walk past them on the way to the main sanctum. Allow ninety minutes for the complex.

Itagi and Dambal

Itagi and Dambal

Itagi, around forty kilometres east, holds the Mahadeva temple of 1112, which a contemporary inscription calls the emperor among temples - and having stood in front of it the claim is not unreasonable. It is the most accomplished Kalyani Chalukya building surviving, with a pillared hall of exceptional quality and almost no visitors. Dambal, twenty kilometres from Lakkundi, has the Doddabasappa temple with a twenty-four pointed stellate plan that is unlike anything else. Visit both as a full day from Lakkundi. If you see one thing beyond Lakkundi itself, make it Itagi.

Minibus Packages for the Bangalore to Lakkundi Route

Corporate Package

For Bangalore organisations running offsites, CSR programmes and team trips into North Karnataka, and for architecture, design and engineering firms taking teams on study visits. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. A corporate minibus bangalore booking on this corridor is usually part of a wider Hampi and Chalukyan circuit rather than a Lakkundi-only trip, with the same vehicle staying with the team across four or five days. Duty slips are signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Our corporate travels desk handles the arrangement end to end, including multi-vehicle movements for larger groups.

Family and Heritage Package

The most common booking here, and it splits into two kinds of group. The first is families and heritage societies doing the North Karnataka monument circuit over five to seven days — Hampi, Lakkundi, Gadag, Dambal, Itagi, Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal. The second is college architecture departments and photography clubs, for whom Lakkundi is a working destination rather than a sightseeing one, and who need the vehicle to wait for hours while people measure, sketch or shoot. We plan both differently. Study groups get a driver briefed to expect long static periods; family circuits get halts planned around meal availability, which is a real constraint in this part of the state. Groups on an architecture study tour karnataka itinerary should tell us at enquiry stage, since it changes how we schedule the day.

Budget Package

For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Non-AC 12 to 17 seater mini buses, point to point, clean vehicle, verified driver, no frills — suited to college groups, community associations and heritage walking societies. The mini bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across 430 kilometres the saving over a full group is substantial. One honest caveat specific to this route: North Karnataka is genuinely hot from March to May, and we would steer any group travelling in that window toward the AC tier regardless of budget. From October to February the non-AC option is entirely comfortable. School parties on a school excursion bus rental bangalore booking normally take this tier with a second vehicle rather than upgrading.

Luxury Package

Executive mini coach configuration with fewer, wider push-back seats, extra legroom, better sound insulation and premium interiors. On a route of this length, where the group is in the vehicle for the better part of nine hours with no ghat to break the monotony, seat comfort is what people remember. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family trips and multi-day heritage circuits. For a further step up in ride quality on the same corridor, our luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration is a premium alternative for smaller heritage groups.

Our Minibus Fleet in Bangalore

Our ac minibus rental bangalore fleet covers 12, 14, 17, 20 and 24 seater configurations. We run the full range of group vehicles from one Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.

•             Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC, the core vehicle for this route

•             Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller groups on the same corridor

•             Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van

•             Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches. This route’s highways suit a full coach comfortably

•             Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova and Commuter through Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route the journey is comfortably completed in daylight, and we plan the itinerary that way rather than driving overnight.

Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra

We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already approved. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.

Included in the Quoted Fare

•             Base fare and fuel charges

•             Driver allowance

Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals

•             Toll charges and parking fees

•             Interstate tax, where the itinerary crosses a state border

•             Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•             GST as applicable

•             Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

Bangalore to Lakkundi stays within Karnataka throughout, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. Extend the itinerary into Goa, Maharashtra or Telangana and permit charges apply, shown as separate line items in the quote. Note that this route carries a higher toll component than most, since a large part of it runs on national highway.

The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. This is built into the written quote, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

How to Book a Mini Bus for Rent in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a mini bus for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•             Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•             Share your travel date.

•             Share your Bangalore pickup location — area, building or landmark such as Electronic City, Whitefield, MG Road or Koramangala.

•             Share your destination or full itinerary.

•             Share your group size.

•             Share your preferred mini bus tier: Standard AC, Executive Mini Coach or Luxury.

•             For corporate bookings from Bangalore tech parks, share your GST number and preferred invoicing format.

•             For Lakkundi and the wider North Karnataka circuit, share the full day-wise itinerary so we can allocate a driver who knows the monuments and the halts.

•             For architecture and photography study groups, tell us at this stage, since the day is scheduled differently when the vehicle has to wait for long periods at each site.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•             Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•             The quote itemises every charge:

•             Mini bus hire rate — per kilometre or flat local package

•             Driver allowance — Rs 500 to Rs 800 per day depending on vehicle

•             Applicable toll estimates, which are higher on this route than most because of the national highway component

•             Interstate permit only where the itinerary leaves Karnataka — Goa, Maharashtra or Telangana. Not applicable for Lakkundi.

•             GST

•             No verbal-only pricing. Everything is in writing before you commit.

•             For Bangalore IT sector corporate clients, a Proforma Invoice is available at this stage for PO-based approval.

•             Request comparison quotes for Standard versus Executive Mini Coach at the same time, and ask for the AC and non-AC difference if you are travelling between October and February.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•             Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•             A 20 percent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific mini bus variant on your date.

•             Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•             Advance receipt issued within 30 minutes.

•             Your confirmation includes:

•             Driver name and mobile number

•             Vehicle registration number

•             Departure time

•             Pickup location confirmation

•             Full billing breakdown — all sent to WhatsApp or email in writing

•             For peak Bangalore travel dates — New Year, Diwali, long IT weekends and the October Dasara period — book well ahead. The Hampi season from November to February is the busiest window on this corridor.

Step 4 — Your Driver and Mini Bus Arrive Early

•             Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•             The mini bus will be clean, sanitised, fuelled and ready.

•             The driver calls you 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•             During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, ORR and NICE road exits, and highway navigation.

•             At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance.

•             Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup area, destination and travel date. Written mini bus quote in 2 hours.

The bangalore to lakkundi distance by road is approximately 430 kilometres via Tumkur, Sira, Hiriyur, Chitradurga, Kudligi, Hosapete and Mundargi. Allow 8 hours 30 minutes to 9 hours 30 minutes including breakfast and lunch halts. There is no ghat section anywhere on the route, so timings are more predictable here than on our coastal corridors. A 5:00 AM departure from Bangalore puts a group at Lakkundi in the early afternoon with several hours of light left, which matters because the carving is best seen in low sun.

Not as a single-day return, no, and we would rather say so. Nine hours each way for one afternoon at the site is a punishing way to travel. Lakkundi is at its best as one stop on a North Karnataka circuit: Hampi is under a hundred kilometres away and sits directly on the road you arrive by, Gadag is twelve kilometres on, Dambal twenty-four, Itagi around forty, and Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal are within a comfortable further leg. Most of our bookings here are four to six day itineraries. Share your dates and we will build the day-wise plan with the quote.

Pricing starts from Rs 28,120. The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately at actuals are toll and parking, interstate tax where the itinerary crosses a state border, additional driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Toll on this route is higher than on most of our corridors because much of it runs on national highway, and the estimate appears as its own line in the quote. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage.

It depends entirely on the season, and this is the one route where we give a firm opinion. North Karnataka is dry and genuinely hot from March to May, with daytime temperatures often above forty degrees, and the itinerary involves walking around open stone sites in the middle of the day. Book AC in that window regardless of budget. From October to February the climate is pleasant and the non-AC tier travels comfortably, which is when the mini bus rate per km in bangalore for the budget option makes real sense. June to September is the monsoon, though rainfall here is far lighter than on the coast and travel is straightforward.

No. The whole route stays within Karnataka, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. Groups extending the trip into Goa, Maharashtra for Bijapur onward, or Telangana will need permits, billed at actuals as separate line items. We arrange all permit documentation before departure in those cases, so nothing is left for your group to handle at a border post.

Lakkundi is a village with small eateries serving local vegetarian snacks and tea stalls, and no hotels. Gadag, twelve kilometres away, is the practical base — it is a proper town with lodges, restaurants and a railway junction. Hosapete is the alternative if you are pairing the trip with Hampi and want to stay closer to the ruins. Having your own vehicle waiting is what makes the day work: the group can visit, go into Gadag to eat, and come back for the afternoon light without depending on local transport.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific mini bus variant on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. The Hampi season from November to February is the busiest period on this corridor, so book as far ahead as you can if you are travelling then.

Yes, and it is worth telling us at enquiry stage because we schedule the day differently. Study groups need the vehicle to wait for extended periods at each site, want early morning and late afternoon light rather than convenient mid-morning timings, and often work through minor monuments that a sightseeing itinerary would skip — several Lakkundi stepwells among them. We assign drivers who know where the outlying wells and shrines are, since signage on the site is limited and a number of them are not visible from the road.

Our minibus hire bangalore fleet covers 12, 14, 17, 20 and 24 seater configurations in AC and non-AC. Unlike our ghat routes to the coast, this corridor has no hairpin sections at all, so a 24 seater is entirely comfortable on every kilometre of it. Under twelve passengers, an 8 to 18 seater tempo traveller is more economical. Above twenty-four we operate 27 to 50 seater coaches including Volvo, and the highways here suit a full coach without difficulty.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats, and on this route the journey is comfortably completed in daylight rather than overnight. On insurance: we do not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking.
