Alleppey Backwaters Houseboat Cruise
The single biggest reason travellers make the long drive to Alleppey is the houseboat cruise through its famous backwaters, a network of canals, rivers and lagoons stretching over nine hundred kilometres. Traditional kettuvallam houseboats, built from wood and coir without a single nail, drift past paddy fields, coconut groves, small temples and churches, offering a rare glimpse of Kuttanad village life from the water. Most cruises include meals cooked on board in traditional Kerala style, and both day trips and overnight stays are available depending on how much time you have. For many visitors, watching the sun set over the water from the deck of a houseboat is the single most memorable part of the entire trip.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hosur
Industrial gateway town
Hosur, just across the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border, is one of the first major towns on this route and is known for its automobile and electronics manufacturing units. The stretch from Bangalore to Hosur is usually the most congested part of the journey due to city outskirts traffic, so most drivers prefer to clear this section early in the morning before the roads get busier.

Krishnagiri
Mango town and dam views
Krishnagiri is well known across South India for its mango orchards and is often called the mango city of Tamil Nadu, with roadside stalls selling fresh mangoes and juices in season. The Krishnagiri Dam, visible from parts of the highway, adds a scenic backdrop to this stretch, and the town is a popular breakfast stop for drivers running the Bangalore to Kerala highway corridor.

Salem
Steel city and textile hub
Salem, one of the larger cities on this route, is known for its steel plants, silk and cotton textile industry, and mango and coconut cultivation in the surrounding districts. It is a good midway stop for a proper meal, fuel and a short break, since it marks roughly a third of the total distance to Alleppey and offers plenty of well-reviewed highway restaurants.
Erode
Turmeric city of India
Erode, often called the turmeric city of India, hosts one of the largest turmeric markets in the country and is also a significant textile and handloom centre. The highway here passes through fertile agricultural land, and the town serves as a convenient checkpoint roughly midway between Salem and Coimbatore for a quick tea or snack break.

Coimbatore
Manchester of South India
Coimbatore, nicknamed the Manchester of South India for its long history of textile manufacturing, is one of the largest cities on this route and a natural stopping point for a longer break, fuel and a proper meal. The city also marks the point where the terrain begins to change, with the Western Ghats visible in the distance as the road approaches the Kerala border through the scenic Walayar forest stretch.

Palakkad
Gateway to Kerala
Palakkad, the first major town after crossing into Kerala, is historically known as the gateway to Kerala because of the Palakkad Gap, a natural break in the Western Ghats that has long served as the main route between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The town is home to the well preserved Palakkad Fort, and the sudden shift to lush greenery and coconut groves along the highway here is a clear sign that you have entered Kerala's backwater country.

Thrissur
Cultural capital of Kerala
Thrissur, widely regarded as the cultural capital of Kerala, is famous for the Thrissur Pooram festival, its temple architecture and its strong classical arts tradition. The highway bypass around the city keeps this stretch relatively quick, but travellers with extra time sometimes make a short detour into the city for its markets and temples before continuing towards Kochi.

Kochi
Queen of the Arabian Sea
Kochi, often called the Queen of the Arabian Sea, is Kerala's largest city and commercial hub, known for Fort Kochi's colonial era architecture, Chinese fishing nets and a thriving food scene. Many travellers combine their Alleppey trip with a day in Kochi, either on the way in or on the return leg, since the two cities are less than an hour and a half apart and offer a nice contrast between backwater calm and coastal city energy.

Alleppey
Destination - the Venice of the East
The final stretch from Kochi into Alleppey follows the coast through Cherthala, with paddy fields and canals becoming more frequent as you approach the town. Depending on your houseboat or resort booking, your driver will drop you directly at the jetty or your accommodation, keeping in mind that most houseboat check-in times are fixed around noon. From here, your backwater itinerary of houseboat cruises, village walks and sightseeing can begin.

Minibus Packages for the Alleppey Route
All four packages use the same fleet of 17, 21, 26 and 35 seater vehicles. Every package is quoted in writing before you pay anything, with both interstate permits shown as separate lines. Houseboat and accommodation costs are paid by you directly and do not appear on our quote.
Kerala Circuit Package
The most-booked format here, because almost nobody drives 590 kilometres for Alleppey alone. A typical build is Bengaluru to Kochi, Kochi to Alleppey with a houseboat night, Alleppey to Munnar, then back, over six or seven days. Executive mini coach with 2x2 pushback seating, luggage bay and charging points, which matters across a week of long legs. One vehicle and one driver throughout, both permits filed once, and routing planned around houseboat boarding times rather than distance. This is where a kerala tour package from Bangalore earns its cost against flying and hiring locally.
Family Package
For extended families, which this route attracts heavily from November to February and in the summer holidays. Standard or Executive AC minibus, extended halts at Krishnagiri and Coimbatore, and a departure planned so the group reaches Alappuzha with an evening in hand rather than arriving exhausted at ten. Where the group includes elderly travellers or young children we recommend breaking the outward leg with a night at Coimbatore or Thrissur, turning a twelve-hour day into two comfortable ones.
Corporate Package
For offsites and incentive trips, which Kerala absorbs in volume because the resorts and houseboat operators handle groups well. GST invoicing, Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval and 30-day credit terms for registered accounts, with both permits itemised for reimbursement. Multi-vehicle groups run through one point of contact with synchronised departures and a single consolidated permit filing. Pickup from Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata or any gate you nominate, and because this route starts on Hosur Road, southern and eastern pickups save real time outbound.
Budget and Luxury Options
At the budget end, a per-kilometre rate against the daily minimum with best value on the 26 and 35 seater, where per-head cost across roughly 1,300 kilometres of round-trip running drops well below anything achievable with multiple cars, and both permits are shared across the whole group rather than paid four times over. Standard AC 21 seater mini bus rental Bangalore and 26 seater mini bus Bangalore are the common choices for college and club trips. At the premium end, recliner seating, extra legroom and a chauffeur in formal attire, matched to the standard of the Marari and Kumarakom resorts.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Alleppey Minibus
The Bangalore to Alleppey distance is about 590 km via NH44 and NH544 through Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kochi. A minibus takes 11 to 12 hours with meal halts. Mapping apps commonly show eight, which assumes a car, no breaks and no Kerala traffic. The last hundred kilometres from Angamaly through Kochi and Cherthala is the slowest part of the day.
An honest answer: for two or three people the overnight train to Alappuzha is usually better, and flying to Kochi is faster still. Road wins for groups, because you arrive together and keep a vehicle for the sightseeing days either side of the houseboat, which neither the train nor the boat solves. If your group is fifteen or more with more than one Kerala stop, the minibus is comfortably the right call.
Two. A Tamil Nadu permit and a Kerala permit, both required for a Karnataka-registered commercial vehicle. Tejas Travels files both before departure and bills them at actual cost as separate lines on your quote. They are excluded from the base fare, which is why quotes on this route need comparing carefully; a low all-in figure has usually left one or both out. Once filed, permit costs are non-refundable if you cancel.
A Bangalore to Alleppey mini bus rental starts from around Rs 39,000 for a 12-seater Standard AC vehicle on a four-day round trip, based on Rs 42 per km against the daily kilometre minimum, before both permits, toll and GST. Larger 26 and 35 seaters and Executive or Luxury specifications are quoted higher, and a full Kerala circuit with Munnar or Thekkady is quoted on the itinerary rather than the distance. Houseboat and hotel costs are separate.
No. The vehicle drops your group at the jetty and the houseboat takes over. The driver either waits locally overnight or is released and returns for check-out, agreed at booking rather than at the jetty. Houseboats also do not cruise after sunset under Kerala rules, so boarding time is fixed and a late arrival costs you the cruise rather than delaying it. Plan to reach Alappuzha the evening before you board.
Four days and three nights is the practical minimum for Alleppey alone, including one houseboat night. That gives two travel days and roughly a day and a half on the ground, which is thin but workable. Six or seven days is the format most groups end up booking, adding Kochi and Munnar and turning it into a proper Kerala circuit. Anything shorter than four days is two very long drives with very little in between.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Excluded: toll and parking, inter-state tax and both permits, additional driver bata after 9.45 pm, GST, and all houseboat, accommodation and entry charges. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage against the daily minimum. Everything is itemised in the written quote before you pay the advance.
November to February for weather and sea conditions, and also the busiest and most expensive window. March to May is hot and humid but quieter. June to September brings heavy monsoon; the backwaters are at their most atmospheric and rates drop, but flooding has closed Kerala roads in recent years, so build flexibility in. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race falls on the second Saturday of August and fills the town completely.
A 20 per cent advance on the total fare confirms the booking, though on a long interstate trip a higher advance may be requested since both permits are filed and paid before travel. Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your dates, pickup location, day-wise itinerary, group size and houseboat dates. A written quote follows within two hours and a receipt within 30 minutes of payment.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance, and passengers are advised to arrange their own cover. The standard driver allowance is included in the quoted fare, but an additional driver bata applies after 9.45 pm. On this route it applies on most single-day runs, because a twelve-hour drive from a 4.30 am start still finishes in the evening and a later start finishes at night. It is factored into the quote rather than sprung on you at settlement.
