Places to Visit in Srisailam

Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi
The reason for the journey, and a genuinely rare combination - the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga and the Bhramaramba Shakti Peetha stand within the same walled complex, so a single visit covers one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas. The temple has fortified walls with carved reliefs running around them, some dating to the Vijayanagara period and among the finest stone narrative work in Andhra Pradesh. Visit early morning. Darshan arrangements, queue types and timings are administered by the temple devasthanam and vary considerably by day and festival, so confirm close to your travel date - and note that Maha Shivaratri brings crowds on an entirely different scale.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.
Chikkaballapur
Gateway to Nandi Hills
The route leaves Bangalore north on NH 44 past the international airport, and this is the easiest exit from the city of any route we run - the highway is six-lane from the start and the airport traffic thins after Devanahalli. Our drivers aim to be past the airport before 5:30 AM on a pilgrimage departure, which on this route is entirely about clearing the forest ghat with hours in hand at the far end. Devanahalli is worth knowing about even if you do not stop: Tipu Sultan was born in the fort here in 1751, and the walls and bastions still stand a short distance off the highway. Chikkaballapur follows, with the Nandi Hills rising to the west - the range where the Arkavathi, Palar, Ponnaiyar, Papagni and Chitravathi all rise, which is unusual enough to be worth a mention as you pass.

Anantapur
Abode of Sathya Sai Baba
Bagepalli is the last Karnataka town and the Andhra border follows shortly after at Kodikonda. A short detour off the highway here reaches Lepakshi, where the sixteenth-century Veerabhadra temple holds the celebrated hanging pillar that does not quite rest on the floor, extensive surviving mural work on the ceilings, and a monolithic Nandi carved from a single boulder that is among the largest in India. It is a forty-five minute detour and one of the finest Vijayanagara sites anywhere. Penukonda comes next - the fortress city the Vijayanagara empire retreated to after the fall of Hampi, with the Gagan Mahal and hill fortifications still standing. Puttaparthi lies off the highway to the west, the ashram town of Sathya Sai Baba and a destination in its own right. Anantapur, the district headquarters, is the groundnut capital of India and the natural breakfast halt on this route, with good options on the bypass.

Kurnool
First Capital of Andhra State
A hundred and fifty kilometres of continuing excellent divided highway through dry Rayalaseema country. Gooty announces itself with its fort - a Vijayanagara and later Maratha stronghold on a steep granite outcrop directly above the road, once held by Murari Rao and taken by Hyder Ali after a long siege. It is visible from the highway and worth looking up for. Kurnool is the pivot of this journey and the point every traveller should understand. It sits at the confluence of the Tungabhadra and the Hundri, it was the first capital of Andhra State between 1953 and 1956, and it is the last substantial city before the road changes character entirely. Our drivers treat it as the checkpoint: fuel fully here, eat properly here, and confirm the time, because what follows takes as long as the previous 360 kilometres despite being half the distance.

Atmakur
Gateway to the Nallamala
Beyond Kurnool the highway ends and the road becomes undivided two-lane through Nandikotkur and on toward Atmakur. The surface is generally reasonable but the character is completely different - villages sit on the road, local traffic and agricultural vehicles use it, and the pace drops to something closer to half what it was. Travellers unfamiliar with this route consistently misjudge this stretch. The landscape changes with it. The dry open Rayalaseema plain gives way to scrub and then to the wooded foothills of the Nallamala, and the hills begin to close in. Atmakur is the last town of any size before the forest, with fuel, food and basic services, and our drivers stop here as standing practice regardless of what the gauge says - beyond it there is essentially nothing until Srisailam.

Srisailam
Kailash of the South
The final eighty kilometres run into and through the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, the largest tiger reserve in India, on a winding ghat road through genuinely dense forest. Mobile coverage is patchy, there is no fuel, and wildlife crossings are a real possibility rather than a theoretical one. Traffic through this section is restricted by the forest department at night, commonly reported as no vehicles after around 9:00 PM, and the timings are set by the forest authorities rather than published permanently, so our drivers confirm the position before departure. It is also the best part of the drive. The road climbs through unbroken canopy with the Krishna gorge somewhere below to the north, and the arrival at Srisailam - a temple town on a plateau in the middle of a tiger reserve, with the dam and the river in a gorge below it - is unlike any other pilgrimage arrival in South India. Our driver takes you to the confirmed accommodation and assists with luggage. A 5:00 AM departure with a proper Kurnool halt puts most groups in Srisailam between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Minibus Packages from Bangalore to Srisailam
Four package shapes cover almost every enquiry we take for this route. All are quoted garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, with the Andhra Pradesh permit itemised separately.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The largest share of our Srisailam bookings, and the one this route is built around. A 12 to 18 seater minibus with generous luggage space, a driver who knows the forest gate timings, and an itinerary built around a night halt at Kurnool so elderly members are not on the road for eleven hours in one stretch. We plan the darshan for early morning when queues are shortest, and recommend the ropeway rather than the steps at Pathala Ganga for anyone who would struggle with a long climb. Temple and bhajan groups travelling together are handled the same way.
Corporate Package
Less common on this route than on others, but a regular booking for companies running employee pilgrimage trips or team outings into the Nallamala. A 20 to 24 seater minibus with pushback seating, a GST-compliant invoice, a Proforma Invoice issued in advance for purchase-order approval, and 30-day credit terms for registered corporate accounts. Multi-point pickups across Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata and Bellandur on one trip sheet. Where a team exceeds twenty-four we pair a minibus with a tempo traveller under one coordinator. Regular clients route these through our corporate travel desk.
Budget Group Package
For extended family groups, neighbourhood temple associations and cost-conscious travellers. A 12 to 20 seater non-AC or standard AC minibus at the lowest per-kilometre rate in our range, on a three-day itinerary with Devasthanam accommodation. On a route of this length the per-head economics strongly favour a group vehicle: split across eighteen people, the total including the permit usually lands well below what the same group would spend on buses plus local transport at the destination. This is where most mini bus rental in bangalore price enquiries land, and we quote it with the kilometre rate stated openly.
Luxury Package
Eleven hours on the road is where a comfort upgrade earns its cost, particularly for a group whose senior members are the reason for the trip. Executive minibus with reclining seats, better suspension for the ghat section, curtains and a music system, or an upgrade to a Force Urbania for 13 to 17 passengers who want the highest comfort tier in this size class. This is the package we most often recommend for family pilgrimage groups with elderly travellers.
Our Fleet at Tejas Tours and Travels
We operate and maintain the following vehicle categories, all available for the Srisailam route and every other outstation destination from Bangalore.
• Buses: 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large group and corporate movements. Suited to large temple groups on this route, though parking near the Srisailam complex is easier for a smaller vehicle.
• Minibus: 12 to 24 seater, the recommended size class for this route.
• Tempo Traveller: 8 to 18 seater for mid-size groups.
• Force Urbania: 13 to 17 seater luxury van.
• Cars: 4 to 7 seater, including Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner, Commuter, Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes S-Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Please note that we do not operate a sleeper bus service. This matters on the Srisailam route because overnight sleeper coaches are a common way of covering the distance, and because the forest gate closures rule out an overnight arrival in any case. For our multi-day itineraries we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts and planned driver night halts, and arrange hotel accommodation along the route where the itinerary requires it.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Srisailam Minibus
About 530 kilometres by road via Anantapur, Kurnool, Nandikotkur and Atmakur, and 10 to 11 hours with halts. Be careful with the travel times shown on some booking sites, which quote around six hours; those are fly-and-drive figures rather than road figures. The last 180 kilometres from Kurnool alone take four to five hours.
The approach to Srisailam runs through the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, and the forest stretch is closed to traffic in the late evening and overnight. Reported closing times differ between gates and change without notice. A vehicle that arrives after closing waits until morning, so we confirm the current timings before every trip and plan to clear the forest in daylight.
Not comfortably. Three days and two nights is the practical minimum, with a night halt at Kurnool or Anantapur in one direction. That turns an eleven-hour drive into two manageable halves and puts the vehicle at the forest gates early with the whole day ahead. Four days lets you add Mahanandi and Ahobilam, which many groups do.
Yes to the permit. Andhra Pradesh entry requires a valid interstate permit with the tax paid, which we arrange as part of the booking and itemise separately in the quote. Separately, photo identification may be checked at the forest checkposts, so ask every passenger to carry an Aadhaar card or equivalent and keep it accessible rather than packed in the luggage.
Trip starts from around Rs 34,520. The Andhra Pradesh permit, toll, parking, driver night halts and GST are billed separately and itemised in the quote. The final rental is calculated garage to garage on total kilometres and hours, so adding Mahanandi, Ahobilam or Lepakshi adjusts the figure.
No, those are handled by the Devasthanam rather than by us, and the booking process changes from time to time, so confirm the current arrangements directly before you travel. What we do is plan the driving around your darshan slot, which matters more than people expect on this route given the forest gate timings and the distance from Kurnool.
Yes, with planning. The temple complex itself is manageable, and the ropeway at Pathala Ganga avoids a long flight of steps. What needs care is the drive, which is why we recommend the Kurnool night halt rather than a single eleven-hour day. Mallela Theertham involves several hundred steps down and back and is best skipped for older travellers.
Maha Shivaratri, usually in February or March, is the largest festival of the year and the town fills completely, with accommodation booked out well in advance. Ugadi and the Karthika month also draw very large crowds. October to March is otherwise the most comfortable window. If your group wants darshan without long queues, avoid the festival dates and go on a weekday.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance as part of the booking. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required by law, but personal travel insurance for passengers needs to be arranged independently. On a long interstate pilgrimage itinerary this is worth arranging, particularly for groups with elderly travellers.
We do not operate sleeper buses, which matters here because overnight coaches are a common way of covering this distance. The forest gate closures rule out an overnight arrival in any case. For our multi-day itineraries we deploy seater coaches and minibuses with scheduled rest halts and planned driver night halts, with a hotel night at Kurnool being the usual arrangement on this route.
