BRT Tiger Reserve
The BRT Tiger Reserve is the single biggest reason travellers book a cab to BR Hills. Spread across more than 539 square kilometres, the reserve sits at the confluence of the Eastern and Western Ghats, which gives it an unusual mix of scrub, deciduous and shola forest inside one sanctuary. Jeep safaris here run at fixed morning and evening slots and offer a genuine chance to spot elephants, gaur, sloth bears, leopards and, if you are fortunate, a tiger. Birdwatchers are equally rewarded, with hornbills and several Western Ghats endemic species recorded inside the reserve. Because gate timings and safari slots are limited, arriving with a driver familiar with the schedule, rather than self-driving, makes it far easier to plan your day without missing the safari window or the forest checkpost cut-off time in the evening.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Ramanagara
Silk town and Sholay rocks
Around fifty kilometres into the drive, the route passes Ramanagara, widely known as the silk town of Karnataka for its cocoon markets, and equally famous among film buffs as the rocky filming location of the classic movie Sholay. The granite hills flanking the highway here are popular with rock climbers and offer a scenic first photo stop of the trip. A short break here for tea or breakfast at one of the highway restaurants is a common way to start the day before continuing further south.

Channapatna
Toy Town of Karnataka
Channapatna, reached shortly after Ramanagara, is internationally recognised for its lacquered wooden toys, a craft that has earned the town its nickname, the Toy Town of Karnataka. Roadside shops along the highway sell colourful hand-turned toys, dolls and kitchenware, making this an easy and popular shopping stop for families travelling with children. The craft has geographical indication protection and buying directly from these highway stores supports the local artisan community that has practised this woodworking tradition for generations.

Maddur and Mandya
Famous Maddur vade and sugar belt
Continuing along the highway, the route passes Maddur, a town every regular traveller on this road associates with the crisp, deep fried Maddur vade sold at roadside eateries. A little further is Mandya, the heart of Karnataka's sugarcane growing belt, recognisable by the fields lining both sides of the highway. This stretch is typically used as a short breakfast or snack break by most cab drivers running the Bangalore to Mysuru highway corridor.
Srirangapatna
Tipu Sultan's island fort city
Srirangapatna is a river island town on the Kaveri that once served as the capital of Tipu Sultan, and it remains rich in Mysore era history. The Ranganathaswamy Temple, the fort ruins and Tipu's summer palace, Daria Daulat Bagh, are all worth a short detour if your schedule allows, offering a glimpse into eighteenth century Mysore architecture and history. Many travellers choose to combine a BR Hills trip with a quick stop here since it adds very little extra travel time to the overall route.

Mysuru
City of palaces
Mysuru, roughly two thirds of the way to BR Hills, is one of Karnataka's most visited cities, home to the grand Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and a well-known food and market culture. Depending on your itinerary and time available, you can either bypass the city on the ring road to save time or plan a short stop, especially if you intend to see the palace lit up in the evening on your return leg. Fuel stations, restaurants and rest stops are plentiful here, making it a natural checkpoint on a long drive.

Nanjangud
Temple town on the Kapila river
Nanjangud is best known for the Srikanteshwara Temple, one of the larger and older Shiva temples in the region, situated on the banks of the Kapila river. The town also marks the point where the route begins moving away from the main Mysuru city traffic towards the quieter roads leading to Chamarajanagar. A short stop here for temple visits or a quick meal is common among pilgrims travelling this route.

Chamarajanagar
Gateway to the BR Hills forest belt
Chamarajanagar is the last major town before the road climbs into the forest, and it is usually the final reliable point for fuel, ATMs, mobile network and last minute supplies before entering the reserve area. From here, the character of the drive changes noticeably, with tree cover thickening and the road beginning its gradual climb towards the hills, giving the first real sense of arriving in wildlife territory.

BR Hills
Destination - forest, temple and wildlife reserve
The final stretch into BR Hills winds through dense sal and deciduous forest before opening up at the hill top settlement near the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple and the BRT Tiger Reserve entry points. Depending on your accommodation and safari booking, your driver will guide you to the forest checkpost, resort or camp, keeping in mind that most forest gates close well before nightfall. From here, your BR Hills itinerary of temple visits, safaris and nature walks can begin.

All four packages use the same fleet of 17, 21, 26 and 35 seater vehicles. Every package is quoted in writing before you pay anything. Safari and accommodation costs are paid to the forest department or your property directly and do not appear on our quote.
Temple and Pilgrimage Package
For temple committees and family pilgrimage groups coming for the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy shrine, a substantial share of traffic on this road. Standard or Executive AC minibus, departure timed for a morning arrival, and luggage space planned for prasada, garlands and puja materials rather than improvised. Where the group wants to combine BR Hills with Male Mahadeshwara Hills, the routing is built for both from the start. Drivers briefed on temple timings and festival-day congestion, which changes the practical drop point considerably.
Photography and Wildlife Group Package
For camera clubs, birding groups and enthusiast trips. Departures set early enough to reach K Gudi before an evening session, returns planned around a final morning safari rather than a fixed checkout, and secure handling for long lenses and tripods. Drivers briefed to hold to the forest gate window without argument and to stop on the ghat stretches where roadside sightings are common. Standard AC 21 seater mini bus rental Bangalore and 26 seater mini bus Bangalore are the usual choices, since these groups carry more equipment than people.
College and Study Group Package
A strong field destination for ecology, forestry and anthropology departments, since the Ghats junction and the Soliga forest rights story are both studied subjects and both are here. Standard AC minibus with vehicle documents, driver credentials, police verification and insurance papers supplied in advance for institutional approval. Timings confirmed in writing to the department office, head-count checks at each stop, and itineraries built around forest department slot allocation.
Family, Corporate and Luxury Options
For families and offsites, a relaxed departure, an extended halt at Shivanasamudra, and a driver briefed to take the ghat gently for anyone prone to motion sickness. Corporate bookings get GST invoicing, Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval and 30-day credit terms for registered accounts. At the premium end, a mini coach with recliner seating and a chauffeur in formal attire. Above 35 passengers a full-size coach is possible on the highway legs but the ghat and the K Gudi road need a specific check, so ask before assuming.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to BR Hill Minibus
The Bangalore to BR Hills distance is about 190 km via Kanakapura, Malavalli, Kollegal and Yelandur on NH948, or around 230 km on the alternative through Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. A minibus takes 4.5 to 5 hours including a breakfast halt. The last twenty-five kilometres is a ghat climb, so it takes longer than the distance on its own suggests.
Kanakapura for almost every group. It is forty kilometres shorter, avoids the expressway tolls, passes Shivanasamudra falls, and suits pickups from the southern half of Bengaluru. The Mysuru routing via Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar makes sense only if you are combining BR Hills with Mysuru itself or approaching from that side. Tell us which and we will plan the halts accordingly.
For the temple and the drive, yes. At 190 km each way it is one of the few wildlife destinations near Bengaluru that works as a long day out, and a br hills one day trip from Bangalore with an early start covers the temple, the viewpoints and Shivanasamudra comfortably. For a safari, no: sessions run at first light and late afternoon, and reaching K Gudi and back inside the entry window on the same day does not work. One night is the minimum for wildlife.
No. BRT is a tiger reserve and private vehicles cannot enter for safari. Jeep and bus safaris are run by the Karnataka Forest Department and booked through the department or an authorised camp. Our vehicle brings your group from Bengaluru, gets you up the ghat and to your property, and takes you home. Safari costs are paid directly by you and do not appear on our quote.
Entry into the reserve is generally permitted between about 6 am and 6 pm. It matters because the temple, the village and K Gudi all sit inside the reserve, K Gudi a further eighteen kilometres off the main road. Departure from Bengaluru and departure on the return day are both planned backwards from that window. Confirm current timings when you book your property, since they are adjusted seasonally.
A Bangalore to BR Hills mini bus rental starts from around Rs 12,120 for a 12-seater Standard AC vehicle on a two-day, one-night trip, based on Rs 42 per km against the daily kilometre minimum, before toll, parking and GST. A single-day temple trip starts lower, at roughly the daily minimum. Larger 26 and 35 seaters and Executive or Luxury specifications are quoted higher. Safari and accommodation are separate.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Excluded: toll and parking, inter-state tax where applicable, additional driver bata after 9.45 pm, GST, and all safari, park entry, camera and accommodation charges. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from garage to garage against the daily minimum. Everything is itemised in the written quote before you pay the advance.
December to April is strongest for wildlife sightings, and the weather through those months is comfortable on the hill. The range takes heavy monsoon rain, and between June and September forest tracks can become difficult and safaris may be curtailed. The temple is worth visiting year-round, though the annual car festival brings very large crowds and changes access on the hill considerably, so check the date before planning around it.
The ghat is a public road and a large vehicle manages it, slowly. The constraints are drop points at some hill properties and the eighteen-kilometre forest road to K Gudi, which is narrow and unlit. Send us your property name at enquiry stage and we will confirm access and recommend the class that reaches the gate. A 17 or 21 seater handles the whole route comfortably, worth weighing if your group is flexible on size.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance, and passengers are advised to arrange their own cover. The standard driver allowance is included in the quoted fare, but an additional driver bata applies after 9.45 pm. On this route it comes up mainly on single-day temple trips that leave the hill late, since the forest gate timing plus the ghat descent plus five hours of driving puts arrival in Bengaluru well into the evening.
