Jog Falls
The Sharavathi reaches the edge of a basalt escarpment and drops 253 metres in a single unbroken plunge, making it the tallest plunge waterfall in India. It splits into four named columns. Raja falls clean and vertical in one sheet. Roarer strikes a ledge partway down and explodes outward with the noise that names it. Rocket shoots out in separate jets. Rani slips down the rock face in a quieter, lace-like veil. The new viewing tower, upgraded entry gate and walking paths have made the site far better organised than it was. Arrive between 8 and 11 in the morning, because by afternoon the valley routinely fills with cloud.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumakuru
Kalpataru Nadu, the Land of the Coconut
Tumakuru earns its nickname honestly. The district is one of the largest coconut producers in India and the palm dominates every field and roadside for the next hundred kilometres. The town is best known for the Sri Siddaganga Mutt, which has fed and educated thousands of children free of charge for over a century. Nearby, the rock fortress of Devarayanadurga rises out of the plain with its Yoganarasimha and Bhoganarasimha temples and the Namada Chilume spring at its base. For our purposes it is the natural first halt, roughly ninety minutes out, with good vegetarian restaurants on the bypass serving thatte idli and filter coffee. Most bangalore to jog falls cab trips break here before leaving the four-lane highway for the NH 206 Malnad corridor.

Kadur and Birur
Doorway to Coffee Country
Kadur and its neighbour Birur, twelve kilometres apart, form the gateway to the Chikkamagaluru coffee belt. Turn left here and you are in Chikkamagaluru within an hour, in the hills where coffee was first planted in India by Baba Budan in the seventeenth century. Stay straight and you continue to Jog. The landscape is transitional and rather beautiful, with dry-zone scrub giving way to plantation greenery. Birur is a road and rail junction with a busy grain market, and the Amruteshwara temple at Amruthapura, another fine Hoysala building from 1196 CE, lies fifteen kilometres north. Roadside stalls here sell locally roasted coffee powder and it is worth stopping for a cup.

Bhadravathi
Steel City of Karnataka
Bhadravathi is Karnataka's original industrial town. The Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant was set up here in 1923 under the guidance of Sir M Visvesvaraya, using iron ore from Kemmangundi and charcoal from the surrounding forests, making this small Malnad town one of the earliest heavy-industry centres in southern India. The Mysore Paper Mills followed. Both have declined, but the industrial skyline and planned colony layout still tell the story. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple here is a superb Hoysala building from around 1250 CE, with three shrines and dense wall sculpture, and far less crowded than Belur or Halebidu.

Shivamogga
Gateway to Malnad
Shivamogga is the district headquarters and the largest city on the route after Tumakuru, sitting on the banks of the Tunga. It is the commercial heart of Malnad and the last place with full hospital, banking and shopping infrastructure before the falls. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, fourteen kilometres out on the Thirthahalli road, lets you watch forest department elephants being bathed in the Tunga each morning, and Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari on the Sagara road is small but well run. Shivamogga is also the natural overnight point if you left Bengaluru late, and a bangalore to shimoga cab that extends to Jog the next morning splits this journey comfortably.

Sagara
Areca Town and Seat of the Keladi Nayakas
Sagara is the last proper town before the falls and the base most travellers actually stay in. It is a prosperous areca nut and spice trading centre, and the Sunday market is worth an hour if your timing lines up. Historically this was the heartland of the Keladi Nayakas, whose temples at Ikkeri and Keladi are both within ten kilometres. The town has a relaxed Malnad character of tiled roofs, old trading houses and rain-tree shade. Practically, Sagara is where you should eat, refuel and buy anything you need, because options at the falls are limited and expensive. It is also the junction for the Sigandur bridge road and the Honnemaradu turn-off.

Jog Falls
Niagara of India
The last thirty kilometres from Sagara run through Talaguppa and Kargal, and this is the most beautiful driving of the entire route. The road narrows, the forest closes overhead and the Sharavathi Valley Lion-Tailed Macaque Sanctuary begins on both sides. Talaguppa is the railway terminus, fourteen kilometres from the falls. Kargal is the township built for the hydroelectric project workers. Then the road opens at the viewpoint and the gorge appears. Park at the main gate, walk to the viewing tower and give yourself at least two hours. Access to the stepped descent toward the base is restricted depending on water level and safety conditions, so check with staff on the day.

Minibus Packages for the Bangalore to Jog Falls Route
Corporate Package
Jog and the Sharavathi backwaters make one of the better two-day corporate offsites from Bangalore, particularly with Honnemaradu on the plan for an activity day. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full trip and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. Multi-vehicle movements are staggered so the group arrives together rather than over half an hour. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles the arrangement when a corporate minibus bangalore booking runs to more than one vehicle.
Family Package
Extended family groups of fifteen to twenty-two over a long weekend are the other half of the bookings on this route. Designed around the reality that not everyone is walking down 1,400 steps: the vehicle stays at the viewing area, so anyone sitting the descent out has somewhere shaded and comfortable to wait. A proper lunch halt is built into each day rather than improvised, and there is space for the wet clothes and towels a Malnad trip in season produces. Tell us the age range at enquiry and we will suggest the pace.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Non-AC 12 to 17 seater mini buses, point to point, no frills, clean vehicle and a verified driver. College groups, trekking clubs and school excursions take this route regularly, and across a 770 kilometre round trip split across twenty passengers the per-head figure is low. The mini bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest. Non-AC is comfortable here through the Jog season, since the Malnad climate is mild from August onward; the exception is a March to May trip on the plains section, when the water is thin anyway. The budget tier is about vehicle specification only, never about maintenance or driver vetting.
Luxury and Executive Package
Executive mini coach configuration with fewer, wider push-back seats, extra legroom, better sound insulation and premium interiors. On a route of eight hours each way this is the tier groups most often wish they had taken, and the difference shows on the return leg rather than the outbound one. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family trips and any group that wants to travel together without compromising comfort. For a step further, our luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration is a premium alternative on the same route.
Our Minibus Fleet in Bangalore
Our ac minibus rental bangalore fleet covers 12, 14, 17, 20 and 24 seater configurations. We run the full range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC, the core vehicle for this route
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller groups on the same corridor
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches for large groups
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Commuter through Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle in our fleet is seated configuration with push-back seats, which is why we plan this route as a daytime drive with a hotel halt at Jog, Sagara or Shivamogga rather than an overnight run. On roads that narrow steadily past Shivamogga, in a district that sees very heavy rain through the season you actually want to visit in, a rested driver in daylight is worth more than the hours an overnight would save.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where a trip extends beyond Karnataka
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. We factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay. On this route interstate tax does not normally apply, since the road stays inside Karnataka throughout, which makes it cheaper to run than a comparable distance into Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh.
Two costs sit outside our billing. Entry and viewing charges at the falls are paid at the site, and the Sigandur launch crossing is charged separately by the operator, with vehicle capacity limited and timings variable. Daily kilometres also add up quickly once the backwaters, Honnemaradu or the coast are in the plan, so send us the full day-wise itinerary and we will quote the whole trip rather than the outbound leg alone.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Minibus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Jog Falls Minibus
The bangalore to jog falls distance by road is approximately 385 kilometres via NH48 to Nelamangala and NH206 through Tumkur, Tiptur, Arsikere, Kadur, Tarikere, Bhadravathi and Shivamogga, then on through Sagara and Kargal. In a mini bus it takes 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours 30 minutes including halts. Leaving Bangalore by 5:30 AM matters, because the Peenya stretch alone can cost an hour later in the morning, and the Tumkur to Arsikere leg is slower than its distance suggests.
We would not recommend it. Eight hours of driving each way in a single day leaves you perhaps ninety minutes at the falls, arriving tired and leaving in a hurry, and it means driving the narrower stretch past Sagara after dark on the way back. Two days is the sensible minimum, with an overnight at Jog, Kargal, Sagara or Shivamogga. Three days lets you add Linganamakki, the backwaters and either Sigandur or the coast without rushing anything.
August to December, and the difference between seasons is dramatic rather than marginal. The Sharavathi is dammed at Linganamakki upstream, so what comes over the falls depends on how much water the reservoir is releasing rather than only on recent rain. September and October usually give the full four streams in spate. By March, April and May the flow can drop to thin ribbons over bare rock. If Jog is the main reason for your trip, choose the month around the water rather than around a convenient weekend, and tell us your dates so we can be straight with you about what to expect.
Pricing starts from Rs 26,840. The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately at actuals are toll and parking, driver night halt charges, additional driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Entry charges at the falls and the Sigandur launch crossing are paid at the site. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, itemised in the written quote you receive within 2 hours.
No. Jog Falls is in Shivamogga district in Karnataka and the whole route stays within the state, so no interstate permit or border tax applies. That makes this trip cheaper to run than a comparable distance into Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. A permit becomes relevant only if you continue north into Goa from the Gokarna side, which some groups do on a longer coastal itinerary.
Around 1,400, and the climb back up is what people underestimate rather than the descent. It takes most reasonably fit visitors well over an hour to return. The steps are slippery in season and are closed or unsafe during very heavy flow, so check on the day. On a mixed-age group this is usually where the party splits, which is fine: the mini bus stays parked at the viewing area, so anyone sitting it out has somewhere comfortable to wait rather than standing in the sun.
Linganamakki dam is six kilometres away and explains the whole seasonal picture. The Sharavathi backwaters behind it are vast, with the Sigandur Chowdeshwari temple reached by a launch across the water, and Honnemaradu offering kayaking and camping. Keladi and Ikkeri, the Nayaka capitals, sit a few kilometres from Sagara and are directly on your route. Unchalli Falls near Siddapur is quieter than Jog and in the same season. With a third day, Murudeshwar and the coast are a hundred kilometres west.
Our minibus hire bangalore fleet covers 12, 14, 17, 20 and 24 seater configurations in AC and non-AC. Under twelve passengers, an 8 to 18 seater tempo traveller is usually more economical. Above twenty-four we operate 27 to 50 seater buses, which are fine on the highway but awkward on the narrower Sagara and Kargal roads and in the Jog parking area on a peak-season weekend. A mini bus handles the whole route comfortably, which is why it is the size most groups on this corridor book.
Accommodation at Jog itself is limited, so most groups stay at Kargal, Sagara or Shivamogga, all within an hour and all with more choice. Through the August to December season and on long weekends, rooms go early and so do vehicles, so book both several weeks ahead. Tell us where you plan to stay at enquiry stage and we will plan the day around it, since an early start from Sagara gets your group to the viewpoint before the parking area fills.
Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, and between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent. Multi-day trips need a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund, and a closure of the viewing area or the steps by the district administration is treated as force majeure with a full refund. On insurance, Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered, which is worth considering on a trip involving the descent to the base. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com. Our mini bus booking online and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
