Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple
At the foot of the hill, this temple is where the trek begins. The deity is a naturally formed bas-relief image in the rock, which is why the shrine draws steady crowds of devotees, especially on weekends and festival days. The temple is built in the Hoysala style and dates to the Vijayanagara period, with the rock face rising directly behind it.
Savandi Veerabhadreshwara Swamy Temple
A short walk from the Narasimha temple, this shrine to Veerabhadra is the second of the twin temples at the base. Families who come for darshan rather than the climb often visit both, then rest in the shade before heading on to Manchanabele. Mornings are quietest.
Manchanabele Dam
About ten kilometres from the hill, manchanabele dam holds back the Arkavathi river, and its blue backwaters with Savandurga standing behind make one of the most photographed views near Bangalore. Access to the water's edge is restricted for safety, but the viewpoints along the road are ideal for a stop on the way in.
Big Banyan Tree — Dodda Alada Mara

Thirumale Ranganathaswamy Temple, Magadi
In Magadi town, about 12 kilometres from Savandurga, this large Vijayanagara-era temple to Lord Ranganatha has a tall gopuram and a spacious courtyard. It is a calm, rarely crowded stop that pairs well with the temples at the base of the hill.
Kempegowda's Tomb at Kempapura
Near Magadi lies the resting place of Kempegowda, the chieftain who founded Bangalore in the sixteenth century. For anyone who lives in the city he built, it is a fitting detour and a reminder that Magadi and Savandurga were once part of his domain.

Satellite Town
The day begins on Mysore Road, heading south-west out of the "Garden City" before traffic builds. Leaving at 6:00 AM, the stretch past Nayandahalli and Rajarajeshwari Nagar is clear and fast. Kengeri is Bangalore's "Satellite Town", a planned western suburb that grew alongside the Mysore highway, with the Bangalore University Jnana Bharathi campus close by. Manchanabele backwaters
The road dips towards the Arkavathi and suddenly the Manchanabele backwaters appear, with the two domes of Savandurga rising directly behind the water. This is the classic view of the whole trip, and a five-minute photo stop is almost compulsory. The dam was built to supply irrigation and drinking water for Magadi. At Manchanabele village the route turns right towards Veeragowdana Doddi and the forest road to the hill.
Savandurga State Forest
The final approach runs through the Savandurga State Forest, a dry deciduous and scrub landscape that shelters birds, reptiles and, occasionally, sloth bears and leopards. It is best experienced with the windows down in the early morning. The road is narrow and the forest department asks visitors to drive slowly, keep noise low and carry out all plastic.

The Biligudda trek is moderate to difficult, with steep sections of bare rock. Fit beginners manage it with good shoes and plenty of water. Young children and elders are better suited to the temples, the Big Banyan Tree and Manchanabele, which our Family and Temple Package covers.
Only small stalls selling snacks, water, tea and tender coconut are found at the base. Carry breakfast and plenty of water from Bangalore, and plan lunch in Magadi on the way back.
