Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi

Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi

The Udupi Sri Krishna Temple is the defining landmark of the town and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in South India, drawing hundreds of thousands of devotees annually for the darshan of Lord Krishna through the distinctive nine-holed silver window known as the Kanakana Kindi. The temple was founded in the thirteenth century by the philosopher-saint Sri Madhvacharya, who is believed to have received the idol of Lord Krishna from inside a ball of clay within a ship's ballast, and it has been in continuous worship ever since under the management of the eight Vaishnava maths that rotate custody of the temple on a two-year cycle, a practice known as Paryaya. The elaborate daily worship schedule begins at four in the morning and continues with fourteen worship sessions through the day, and the feeding of devotees at the temple's community kitchen is on a scale that few temples in India match. The temple's architecture, with its gopuram, decorated chariot and the sacred tank of Madhva Sarovara, occupies the centre of the town and the surrounding Car Street is lined with the eight maths and their distinctive carved facades. Every traveller on a Bangalore to Udupi taxi booking plans their arrival time around the preferred worship session.

Malpe Beach

Malpe Beach

Malpe Beach is the most popular beach in the Udupi district, a wide sweep of golden sand at a natural harbour on the Arabian Sea coast approximately four kilometres west of the town centre. The beach is the departure point for the boat service to St. Mary's Island and the primary venue for water sports in the area, including jet skiing, parasailing, speed boat rides and the Sea Walk, a 450-metre elevated walkway over the water that provides views of both the open sea and the river backwaters simultaneously. Malpe is also an important commercial fishing harbour, and the fishing boats pulled up along the northern section of the beach and the early-morning fish auction are a distinctly local dimension of the coastal atmosphere. Families, honeymooners and groups on a one way cab Bangalore to Udupi trip almost always include an evening or morning at Malpe Beach, and the beach's free public Wi-Fi, installed by the local administration, has become one of its small distinguishing features. The combination of the ferry to St. Mary's Island and the harbour atmosphere makes Malpe a more interesting beach stop than a purely sand-and-sea visit.

St. Mary's Island

St. Mary's Island

St. Mary's Island, a cluster of four small islands accessible by a 15-minute boat ride from Malpe harbour, is one of the most geologically unusual sites on India's western coast. The islands are carpeted with closely packed hexagonal basalt columns formed by volcanic activity around 88 million years ago, creating a landscape of natural prisms that is visually striking and scientifically significant. The island also carries considerable historical weight: it is documented as the landing point of Vasco da Gama in 1498 before he reached Calicut, and a cross believed to mark the landing site is one of the island's historical landmarks. The boat crossing from Malpe takes approximately 15 minutes each way, with ferry services regulated by the Karnataka coastal authority, and the island itself has clean beaches, clear water and the extraordinary basalt formations that photographers find irresistible. Travellers on a Bangalore to Udupi car rental trip who are spending two or more nights in the area consistently rate St. Mary's Island as one of the most memorable stops of their visit.

Kapu Beach and Lighthouse

Kapu Beach and Lighthouse

Kapu Beach, also spelled Kaup, is a quieter and less commercially developed alternative to Malpe Beach, located approximately 12 kilometres south of Udupi town on the coastal highway between Mangalore and Udupi. The beach is defined by its historic lighthouse built in 1901, which stands on a rocky promontory at the northern end of the shore and is open to visitors for a brief window at sunrise, offering panoramic views of the Arabian Sea from its top. The beach itself is a long stretch of clean sand backed by coconut palms, with the waves rougher than at Malpe but the setting more naturally scenic and considerably less crowded. The Kapu Lighthouse has appeared in several Kannada films and is one of the most photographed structures on the Karnataka coast, particularly at sunset when the golden light on the stone tower and the sea behind it creates an unusually photogenic scene. Families looking for a quieter half-day at the beach during a Udupi tour package from Bangalore typically choose Kapu over Malpe when they want to spend time by the water without the commercial activity of the harbour setting.

Karkala and Gomateshwara Statue

Karkala and Gomateshwara Statue

Karkala, located approximately 40 kilometres from Udupi in the foothills of the Western Ghats, is a significant Jain heritage town and one of the most rewarding excursions from the coast. The principal landmark is the Gomateshwara statue, a 41.5-foot monolithic granite figure of Lord Bahubali erected in 1432 CE by the Bhairarasa Vodeya dynasty, which stands on a rocky hillock and is considered one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in Karnataka. Every twelve years the Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony is performed, during which the statue is anointed with milk, saffron, sandalwood and flowers in a ceremony that draws tens of thousands of Jain devotees. The town is also home to the Chaturmukha Basadi, a four-faced Jain temple built in the sixteenth century with a perfectly symmetrical design that is a good example of Jain temple architecture in the coastal Karnataka style. Travellers arriving by a Bangalore to Udupi cab who want to explore the district beyond the coast frequently include Karkala as a day-trip destination, combining it with the drive back toward Mangalore or onward to Dharmasthala.

Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara Temples

Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara Temples

The Anantheshwara Temple and the adjacent Chandramouleshwara Temple are two of the oldest temples in Udupi, both dedicated to Lord Shiva and both predating the establishment of the Sri Krishna Matha by several centuries. The Anantheshwara Temple, with a history tracing back over a thousand years, is where the saint Madhvacharya is believed to have received his early spiritual education, and it therefore carries a significance in the Dvaita Vedanta tradition that goes beyond its antiquity. The Chandramouleshwara Temple, situated directly opposite, is linked by a shared sacred geography with the Anantheshwara complex and the Sri Krishna Temple that together form the religious heart of Udupi town. Both temples are considerably less crowded than the Sri Krishna Temple and offer a more contemplative visit for those interested in the older religious and architectural traditions of the region. Pilgrims travelling on a Bangalore to Udupi taxi for darshan at the Krishna Temple almost always include these two temples in the same circuit, as they are within easy walking distance of the main matha complex.

Maravanthe Beach

Maravanthe Beach

Maravanthe Beach is not the most easily accessible stop on a Udupi itinerary, but it is one of the most visually distinctive beaches on the entire Indian coast. The National Highway 66 runs along a narrow strip of land between the Arabian Sea on one side and the calm Souparnika River on the other for a stretch of around five kilometres, so the driver of any vehicle passing through sees the sea on the left and the river on the right simultaneously, with the narrow land and road suspended between them. This double waterfront view is unusual enough that the stretch has become a well-known scenic drive and a stopping point for most travellers passing through the coast between Mangalore and Goa. The beach at Maravanthe is a long, clean, unspoiled arc of sand that is considerably quieter than Malpe and does not have the commercial infrastructure of Kapu. Travellers on a multi-day Udupi tour package from Bangalore who are combining the coast with a drive toward Murudeshwar or Gokarna pass through Maravanthe and typically stop for at least twenty minutes to walk the shoreline.

Kudlu Theertha Falls

Kudlu Theertha Falls

Kudlu Theertha Falls, also known as Sita Falls, is a picturesque 150-foot waterfall in the forested foothills of the Western Ghats near the town of Hebri, approximately 40 kilometres from Udupi. The waterfall is formed by the Seetha River dropping through a gorge of dense evergreen forest before collecting in a natural pool below, and the trek of around 30 to 40 minutes through the forest to reach the falls is part of the experience, passing through a tree cover that is home to birds, butterflies and the occasional troop of macaques. The falls are at their most impressive during and immediately after the monsoon season when the volume of water is highest, though the surrounding forest is beautiful throughout the year. Trekkers and nature enthusiasts visiting Udupi with extra time typically include Kudlu Theertha as a morning activity on their second or third day, particularly those who want a contrast with the beach and temple circuit that defines most itineraries. The site is accessible with a private vehicle, which is another reason why a Bangalore to Udupi cab booking rather than public transport is the practical choice for this kind of flexible exploration.

Cab Packages for Your Udupi Trip

Here are the main packages we offer for the Bangalore to Udupi cab route, tailored to different types of travellers.

Budget Cab Package

The Budget Cab Package offers a hatchback or entry-level sedan at the most affordable rate for the route, suitable for solo travellers or couples making a straightforward point-to-point journey without extended stops. The Bangalore to Udupi taxi fare under this package is the most competitive option for the distance and can be

reviewed on our cab rental page.

Pilgrimage Package

Our pilgrimage package is designed specifically for devotees travelling to the Sri Krishna Temple, Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya and Kollur Mookambika, with early-morning pickup, planned stops at each temple in the right

order and sufficient waiting time for darshan. Bookings of this type are managed through our outstation vehicle booking service and are one of our most consistently requested packages for this route.

Family Cab Package

For families with children, elderly members or extra luggage, the Family Cab Package provides an SUV or Innova-class vehicle with the cabin space and suspension quality needed for the demanding Charmadi Ghat section and the full seven to eight hour drive. This is the most popular package for a Udupi tour package from Bangalore during
festival seasons and school holidays.

Corporate Travel Package

Our Corporate Travels service covers teams heading to Manipal for institutional visits, hospital appointments, university events or corporate meetings, with monthly billing, dedicated vehicles and account management built around business travel requirements.

Luxury Package

The Luxury Package includes the Toyota Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross or the Force Urbania, providing a premium cabin environment for the full route from Bangalore to the coast, well-suited to resort guests, honeymoon travellers and senior pilgrims for whom cab comfort over a long drive is a priority.

Group and Tempo Traveller Package

Groups of eight or more are better served by a Tempo Traveller or Mini Bus, which keep the group together through every stop from Belur to Dharmasthala to the beach and are considerably cheaper per head than multiple sedans for the full Bangalore to Udupi journey.

Wedding Package

For families managing guest transport for weddings at coastal Karnataka venues or for couples choosing a Udupi beach resort as a destination wedding location, our Wedding Cab and Bus service provides decorated cars alongside comfortable buses for guests travelling from Bangalore and Mysore.

How to Book a Car for Rent in Bangalore — Step-by-Step

Booking a Car for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under 5 minutes. Follow these 4 steps:

STEP1

Contact Tejas Travels

Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire.

STEP2

Receive Your Written Quote

Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time.

STEP3

Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance

Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year).

STEP4

Your Driver Arrives Early

Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure. For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled, and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire. The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy. During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, and Bangalore traffic navigation. At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional km or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick Booking for Hire: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination, and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Udupi Cab

The Bangalore to Udupi distance by road is approximately 400 to 410 kilometres via NH 75 through Hassan, Sakleshpur and the Charmadi Ghat. The variation reflects different specific starting points within Bangalore and drop points within the Udupi district.

The drive typically takes between seven and eight hours including two or three short breaks, with actual driving time closer to six and a half hours in favourable traffic and ghat conditions. Departing between four and five in the morning is the most common recommendation, allowing arrival in Udupi by noon to one in the afternoon.

The Bangalore to Udupi taxi fare for a one-way sedan booking starts from approximately Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 8,000, varying by vehicle type, toll charges along the route, driver allowance and whether the booking is one-way or round trip. Current rates can be checked on our cab rental page.

Yes, a one way cab Bangalore to Udupi is readily available and is priced for the single journey only,
making it cost-effective for travellers who plan to return by train, bus or a separately arranged vehicle from the coast.

The main recommended stops on the Bangalore to Udupi route via NH 75 are Nelamangala for breakfast and fuel, Hassan or Belur for a heritage detour to the Hoysala temples, Sakleshpur for a tea break in the coffee estates, the Charmadi Ghat viewpoints for photographs, Dharmasthala for pilgrimage darshan and Karkala for the Gomateshwara statue before arriving in Udupi.

Night driving on the Charmadi Ghat section of NH 75 is not recommended and is generally avoided by experienced drivers on this route. The road has sharp bends, limited street lighting, active construction sections in some areas and the possibility of fallen debris, particularly during and after the monsoon. Most cab operators on this route plan departure times to ensure the ghat section is crossed during

daylight hours.

Yes, a multi-temple pilgrimage circuit covering Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya and Udupi Sri Krishna Temple can be planned as a two to three day round trip from Bangalore. Our dedicated pilgrimage cab package through the outstation vehicle booking service is designed specifically for this kind of multi-stop religious itinerary.

A small advance of around 10 percent of the total fare is typically collected at the time of booking to secure the vehicle and driver allocation, with the remaining balance payable at
the end of the trip either in cash directly to the driver or online via a payment link.

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent, and tiered cancellation policy. All terms communicated in writing at booking confirmation.

Toll charges along the NH 75 route from Bangalore to Udupi are generally charged separately from the

base fare, since they vary by vehicle type and the specific route taken. Drivers maintain toll receipts

and these are settled at the end of the trip. This is worth confirming at booking to avoid surprises.
