Places to Visit in Horanadu

Adi Shakthi Annapoorneshwari Temple
The temple stands on the Bhadra with hills on every side, and the goddess is depicted standing on a lotus with a vessel of food and a ladle. The present structure was substantially rebuilt in the early 1970s and the complex now includes dining halls, accommodation blocks and a large hall, all organised around the annadana. Visit for a meal as well as darshan - they are part of the same thing here. Timings for both worship and the sittings run to the temple schedule; confirm for your date, and dress traditionally.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hassan
Base of the Hoysala Belt
The route leaves Bangalore northwest onto NH 75, and the Nelamangala junction is the only part of the day that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM, since four highway corridors diverge there and weekend traffic builds fast. Beyond it the highway opens up. Kunigal has one of the oldest stud farms in India; Yediyur, twenty-five kilometres on, has a lakeside Siddhalingeshwara temple and the best breakfast cluster on this road, which is worth using properly since options thin later. Channarayapatna is the Shravanabelagola junction, and Hassan is the base of the Hoysala circuit.

Chikmagalur
Coffee Cradle of India
Belur comes up thirty-five kilometres beyond Hassan and is the best short stop on this route - the Chennakeshava temple, commissioned in 1117 and worked on for over a century, carries bracket figures among the finest sculpture in India, and it was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2023. Ninety minutes covers it properly. Chikmagalur follows and the country changes - the Baba Budan hills rise to the north and coffee replaces everything else. Indian coffee began on that hill, where Baba Budan is said to have planted seven seeds carried back from Yemen. Beyond Chikmagalur the road turns west into the Malnad proper and the driving changes with it.

Kalasa
Temple Town on the Bhadra
A hundred and ten kilometres west through the heart of the Malnad, and this is where the average speed drops. The road winds continuously through estate and forest, climbing and dropping, with coffee under shade trees on both sides and very little open ground. Mudigere is a working coffee town; Kottigehara, beyond it, is where the Charmadi ghat road turns west toward Mangalore down one of the more dramatic descents in Karnataka. Kalasa sits on the Bhadra with the Kalaseshwara temple above the river, one of the Pancha Kshetras of this region and a quiet place by comparison with what follows. It has more accommodation than Horanadu and is where a good number of groups actually stay.

Horanadu
Annadana Kshetra of the Malnad
Ten kilometres of winding road through estate country along the Bhadra, and it takes twenty minutes rather than the ten the distance suggests. The hills close in and the last stretch runs through forest and coffee with the river below. Horanadu is very small - the temple complex is most of it, with dining halls, accommodation blocks and a handful of shops around the gate. That scale is part of the character: this is a temple town in the literal sense rather than a town with a temple in it. Accommodation is largely run by the trust and booked directly with them. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in Horanadu by around 1:30 PM, which on most days catches an afternoon sitting.

Cab Packages for Every Traveller
Every quotation is built around what you actually need rather than a fixed menu. The four tiers below describe how we typically structure car booking enquiries on this corridor.
Horanadu, Kalasa and Sringeri Circuit Package
The itinerary almost everyone books, and the one this route is really for. The three sit within fifty kilometres of each other but on Malnad hill roads where that distance takes ninety minutes, which makes a retained vehicle the only workable arrangement - there is effectively no local transport between them. Two days covers all three comfortably with a night at Horanadu or Kalasa; three lets you add Kudremukh or Agumbe. Innova and Innova Crysta are the usual choice, with tempo travellers for extended families.
Family and Pilgrimage Cab Package
For families travelling for darshan at Annapoorneshwari, which for a good number is an annual visit. The planning is around the meal sittings as much as the worship - arriving mid-afternoon or early evening changes what your day looks like. We time arrivals accordingly. Temple accommodation books directly with the trust and fills in season, so we advise sorting that before the vehicle rather than after, and we will suggest Kalasa or Sringeri if Horanadu is full. Child seats can be arranged with notice.
Weekend Package
Horanadu works as a Bangalore weekend, though it is a genuine seven to eight hours each way with winding hill road at the end - so a Saturday dawn start and two nights is the shape that works, rather than a Friday evening departure. That gives you the temple and Kalasa on the first day, Sringeri on the second, and the drive home on the third. The last eighty kilometres is not road to be arriving on after dark for the first time, which is the main reason we push the early start.
Premium and Luxury Cab Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and travellers who want the drive and the circuit to be comfortable. This tier covers our premium car rentals in bangalore range and the innova hycross rent bangalore fleet, alongside our luxury car rental bangalore options. The Malnad roads wind continuously without ever being severe, which across a two-day circuit is felt in the suspension rather than in any single stretch - and for elderly passengers or anyone prone to travel sickness, that difference is real.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for the Bangalore to Horanadu corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged, and everything inside it is stated before you confirm.
Advance payment: 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
1. Base fare and fuel charges
2. Driver allowance
Not Included in the Quoted Fare
3. Toll and parking charges
4. Interstate tax and permit charges
5. Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
6. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
7. GST
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel cover where required. Vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law.
Three points are specific to this route. First, this journey stays entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit arises - the exclusion above remains in our standard terms because it applies on our other corridors. Second, temple accommodation at Horanadu is booked directly with the trust and paid to them, as are seva and any special arrangements at Horanadu, Kalasa and Sringeri; we arrange transport and timing only, and we do not take a margin on temple charges. Third, circuit running here is slow - Sringeri is fifty kilometres away and Kudremukh thirty, on roads where those distances take far longer than they read - so our circuit quotes carry a stated allowance.

STEP1 | Contact Tejas Travels Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire. |
STEP2 | Receive Your Written Quote Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. |
STEP3 | Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year). |

Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Horanadu Cab
The bangalore to horanadu distance is around 370 km via NH 75 through Hassan and Belur, then Chikmagalur, Mudigere, Kottigehara and Kalasa, with reported figures between 355 km and 390 km. A cab takes 7 to 8 hours with one halt. The route stays entirely within Karnataka. The last eighty kilometres through the Malnad is winding hill road where the average speed drops considerably, which is the part people underestimate.
Yes. Annapoorneshwari is the goddess of food, and the temple serves a full meal free to every visitor who comes, across several sittings a day, without any means test or requirement to have made an offering. It is not a token prasadam distribution. The tradition is that nobody leaves Horanadu hungry, and for a great many families the meal is as much the reason for the visit as the darshan. Sittings run to the temple schedule and the halls fill, particularly at weekends.
Directly with the temple trust, which runs most of the rooms in what is a very small place. They are not bookable through travel sites or agents, and they fill in season - anyone offering to secure temple accommodation for a fee should be treated with caution. Sort the room before the vehicle rather than after. If Horanadu is full, Kalasa ten kilometres away and Sringeri fifty have more options, and both work as a base for the circuit.
Almost everyone does, and it is the right shape for this journey. The three sit within fifty kilometres of each other, but on Malnad roads where fifty kilometres takes about ninety minutes - so the vehicle stays with your group throughout, since there is effectively no local transport between them. Two days covers all three comfortably; three lets you add Kudremukh or Agumbe. Our Sringeri page covers the Sharada Peetham and the Vidyashankara temple in full.
A sedan starts at Rs 10,760. Innova and premium SUV rates are quoted on vehicle and itinerary, and larger vehicles on group size. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, toll estimate and GST separately, and circuit quotes carry a stated allowance for the hill running between the three temples.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms your booking and holds the specific vehicle for your dates. The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and your confirmation includes the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time and the full billing breakdown in writing. For Navaratri and the festival periods, book well ahead - accommodation across this whole circuit tightens at the same time.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. No interstate permit arises since the route stays within Karnataka. Temple accommodation, seva and any special arrangements at Horanadu, Kalasa and Sringeri are paid to the respective institutions - we do not take a margin on those. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal travel cover should arrange it independently. For groups attempting the Kudremukh trek, the forest department operates its own arrangements and those are worth checking directly.
Yes, but plan it properly. Kudremukh is around thirty kilometres west and the summit trek is a demanding day of roughly twenty kilometres return through grassland, with permits and a mandatory guide arranged through the forest department at the range office. Numbers are limited and arrangements change, so confirm directly with the department rather than assuming. October to February is the window. It adds a full day to the circuit and it is not a casual add-on.
September to March. The southwest monsoon from June to August brings very heavy rain to this part of the Ghats, which makes the last eighty kilometres slow and occasionally troublesome - though the Malnad is at its most beautiful then and the falls are running. September to November is the ideal window: everything green after the rains, roads dried out, and the temple less crowded than in the festival season.
