Saavira Kambada Basadi
The thousand-pillar basadi, properly the Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani, completed in 1430 and the finest Jain structure on this coast. The hall carries something close to a thousand granite pillars and the celebrated feature is that no two carry the same carving - figures, geometric bands, floral work, each column different. The tiered roof shows the coastal Tulu style rather than a Deccan one. A manastambha stands in front. Visit in the morning when the light comes into the hall properly; allow an hour and look up as well as around.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hassan
Base of the Hoysala Belt
The route leaves Bangalore northwest onto NH 75, and the Nelamangala junction is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 7:00 AM. Yediyur, twenty-five kilometres beyond Kunigal, has the best breakfast cluster on this highway. Channarayapatna is where the Bahubali circuit properly begins: Shravanabelagola lies twelve kilometres off the highway, with the fifty-seven foot Gommateshwara of around 981 CE on Vindhyagiri, the oldest and largest of the five Karnataka monoliths. The climb is about six hundred and fifty barefoot steps, so it is a half day rather than a stop - worth building into the outbound leg deliberately if the circuit is your purpose.

Kottigehara
Junction of the Charmadi Ghat
Belur comes thirty-five kilometres beyond Hassan with the Chennakeshava temple, UNESCO-inscribed in 2023 and carrying bracket figures among the finest sculpture in India. Chikmagalur follows and the country turns to coffee - the Baba Budan hills to the north are where Indian coffee began. Beyond Chikmagalur the road runs west through Mudigere into proper Malnad, winding continuously through estate and forest, and Kottigehara is where the Charmadi ghat turns down toward the coast. This is where our drivers confirm the ghat position; Charmadi is narrow, steep and quick to close for landslip risk, and Shiradi is the alternative.

Venur
Bahubali of the Phalguni
The Charmadi descent drops through forest in a series of tight hairpins and is one of the more beautiful roads in Karnataka - not a road for a long wheelbase, and one to be doing in daylight. At the bottom the country changes completely into coastal Dakshina Kannada: humid, dense, areca and coconut where there was forest. Ujire comes first, eight kilometres short of Dharmasthala, where a thirty-nine foot Bahubali stands on Ratnagiri hill above the temple town - the newest of the monoliths, installed in 1973 and carved at Karkala. Belthangady follows, and then Venur on the Phalguni, where a thirty-five foot figure raised in 1604 stands in a village with almost nothing else in it. It is the quietest stop of the circuit and often the one people remember.
Moodabidri
Jain Kashi of Karnataka
Fifteen kilometres of coastal plain road through areca gardens and paddy, flat and easy after the ghat. The landscape here is Tulu Nadu proper - tiled roofs, temple tanks, and the particular density of green that this coast has. Moodabidri is a working town rather than a heritage site set apart, and the basadis stand among ordinary streets - which is part of what makes it interesting. The Saavira Kambada Basadi is the principal one; the Jain Math holds the Dhavala manuscripts, and Chowta Palace is a short walk. Karkala is twenty kilometres north. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in Moodabidri by around 1:30 PM.

Cab Packages for Every Traveller
Every quotation is built around what you actually need rather than a fixed menu. The four tiers below describe how we typically structure car booking enquiries on this corridor.
Bahubali Circuit Package
The itinerary this page is built around and one no competitor offers. Four of the five Karnataka monolithic Bahubali statues sit on or near this route - Shravanabelagola on the outbound line, Dharmasthala and Venur on the Charmadi descent, Karkala twenty kilometres from Moodabidri - which makes a three-day journey through six centuries of one tradition. A fourth day adds Gommatagiri near Mysore on the return. The vehicle stays with your group throughout; Venur and Karkala in particular have no practical alternative transport. Innova and Innova Crysta are the usual choice.
Jain Heritage and Pilgrimage Package
For visitors coming specifically for the basadis rather than the statues. Moodabidri alone holds eighteen, of which the Saavira Kambada is the celebrated one, and Karkala adds the Chaturmukha Basadi and its own group. The Jain Math and the Dhavala manuscripts are here. Two days covers Moodabidri and Karkala properly with time to look rather than tick off. For Mahamastakabhisheka periods at any of the sites, tell us early - the towns fill entirely and vehicles need securing months ahead.
Weekend and Coastal Package
Moodabidri is thirty-five kilometres from Mangalore, which makes it a good base for a coastal weekend as well as a heritage one - the beaches at Panambur and Tannirbhavi, the Kadri temple, and Udupi and Malpe with the boat to St Mary Islands an hour north. A Saturday dawn start gives you the ghat and Moodabidri on day one, Karkala and the coast on day two. Three days lets you take in Udupi properly. The ghat position is the one variable we check before every departure.
Premium and Luxury Cab Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and travellers who want the drive and the ghat to be comfortable. This tier covers our premium car rentals in bangalore range and the innova hycross rent bangalore fleet, alongside our luxury car rental bangalore options. The Charmadi descent has genuinely tight hairpins and a circuit day involves a good deal of secondary road between the sites - suspension and ride quality are felt more here than the distance suggests.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for the Bangalore to Moodabidri corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged, and everything inside it is stated before you confirm.
Advance payment: 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
1. Base fare and fuel charges
2. Driver allowance
Not Included in the Quoted Fare
3. Toll and parking charges
4. Interstate tax and permit charges
5. Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
6. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
7. GST
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel cover where required. Vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law.
Three points are specific to this route. First, this journey stays entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit arises - the exclusion above remains in our standard terms because it applies on our other corridors. Second, basadi and temple charges, and any access arrangement at the Jain Math or Chowta Palace, are made with the respective institutions; the Dhavala manuscripts in particular are religious property rather than an exhibit and viewing is at the math discretion, which is not something we can arrange. Third, a Bahubali circuit involves substantial secondary-road running between four widely separated sites, so our circuit quotes carry a stated allowance rather than a bare point-to-point figure.

How to Book a Car for Rent in Bangalore — Step-by-Step
Booking a Car for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under 5 minutes. Follow these 4 steps:
STEP1 | Contact Tejas Travels Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire. |
STEP2 | Receive Your Written Quote Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. |
STEP3 | Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year). |
STEP4 | Your Driver Arrives Early Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure. For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled, and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire. At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional km or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate. |

Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Moodabidri Cab
The bangalore to moodabidri distance is around 340 km via NH 75 through Hassan and either the Shiradi or the Charmadi ghat, with reported figures between 325 km and 360 km. A cab takes 7 to 8 hours with one halt. The route stays entirely within Karnataka. The ghat descent is the slow part and both crossings are best done in daylight.
Because of the concentration. Eighteen basadis stand in one small town, built largely on the trading wealth of a coastal Jain community between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the Jain Math here holds the Dhavala manuscripts - among the most significant surviving texts of the Digambara tradition anywhere. The Saavira Kambada Basadi of 1430, with close to a thousand granite pillars no two of which carry the same carving, is the one most visitors come for.
Karnataka has five monolithic Bahubali statues, each carved from a single block of granite, and four are on or near this route: Shravanabelagola at fifty-seven feet from around 981 CE, Karkala at forty-two feet from 1432, Venur at thirty-five feet from 1604, and Dharmasthala at thirty-nine feet from 1973. The fifth is at Gommatagiri near Mysore. Seeing them in sequence is a journey through six centuries of one tradition, and the roads connect neatly - three days covers four of them.
Probably not, and it is worth knowing before you go. They are palm-leaf texts held by the Jain Math as religious property rather than as museum exhibits, and viewing is entirely at the discretion of the math and generally restricted. We cannot arrange access and would be cautious of anyone who says they can. Visit the math for the setting and ask respectfully. The significance of these documents surviving in this particular town is the thing worth carrying away regardless.
For a Bahubali circuit, Charmadi - it descends from Kottigehara past Ujire and Venur, which puts two of the statues directly on the road. Shiradi via Sakleshpur is the wider and generally faster crossing and we use it otherwise, or when Charmadi is closed. Both have a history of monsoon landslips and closures, and our drivers check the current position on both before departure rather than at the barrier. Charmadi is not a road for a long wheelbase.
A sedan starts at Rs 9,920. Three-day Bahubali circuits covering Shravanabelagola, Dharmasthala, Venur and Karkala are quoted on plan and vehicle. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, toll estimate and GST separately, and circuit quotes carry a stated allowance for the secondary-road running between the sites.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms your booking and holds the specific vehicle for your dates. The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and your confirmation includes the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time and the full billing breakdown in writing. For any Mahamastakabhisheka period, and for the Alva cultural festivals which fill the town, book well ahead.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. No interstate permit arises since the route stays within Karnataka. Basadi and temple charges and any access arrangement at the Jain Math or Chowta Palace are made with the institutions directly. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal travel cover should arrange it independently. For school and study groups doing the Bahubali circuit, a group policy is usually inexpensive and is often required by the institution.
October to March. The southwest monsoon from June to September brings extremely heavy rain to this coast and both ghats on the approach have a history of landslips and closures in bad years, which makes monsoon travel a genuine planning question. November to February is the most comfortable, and the Alva cultural festivals fall in that window and are worth checking against your dates if you would rather avoid a full town.
