Kere Basadi — The Lake Temple
This is the reason people make the journey. Known formally as the Chaturmukha Basadi and locally as Kere Basadi, the shrine sits alone on a stone platform in the centre of the Varanga lake. It has four entrances facing the four cardinal directions, and inside, four Tirthankaras — Parshwanatha, Neminatha, Shantinatha and Ananthanatha — stand back to back in the kayotsarga meditation posture, with an idol of Devi Padmavati installed before Parshwanatha. Inscriptions at the neighbouring Neminatha Basadi indicate the lake was excavated in the twelfth century. The priest still rows out every morning to perform the rituals. During and after the monsoon the surface fills with white water lilies, and the varanga lake temple looks exactly like the photographs that circulate every July.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Kunigal
The Horse Country of Karnataka
Kunigal is a name racing enthusiasts across India recognise. The Kunigal Stud Farm, laid out in the eighteenth century during Tipu Sultan’s rule and later run by the Maharajas of Mysore, is among the oldest thoroughbred breeding farms in the country and still supplies horses to the Bangalore and Mysore turf clubs. The rolling grassland around the town looks different from anything else on this highway, and in the early morning you can often see horses being exercised from the road. Kunigal Lake, on the northern edge of town, draws migratory birds between November and February and is a reasonable ten-minute leg-stretch stop. This is also where the coconut and areca belt properly begins — roadside stalls sell tender coconut, and the fruit here is noticeably cheaper than anything inside Bengaluru. Most drivers on the Varanga run take their first proper break somewhere between Kunigal and Yediyur, and there are several clean highway restaurants along this stretch serving idli, vada and filter coffee from six in the morning.

Shravanabelagola
The 57-Foot Bahubali
Channarayapatna is a functional highway town, but twelve kilometres south of it stands one of the most significant Jain sites on earth. Shravanabelagola’s Gommateshwara statue, carved around 981 CE, rises 57 feet from the summit of Vindhyagiri hill and is reached by 614 rock-cut steps. Every twelve years the Mahamastakabhisheka draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. For anyone travelling to Varanga this detour is close to essential, because it places the whole trip in context: Shravanabelagola, Karkala and Varanga are three points of the same Karnataka Jain heritage triangle, separated by six hundred years of history and about four hours of driving. Budget two and a half hours for the climb and darshan, and carry socks — the granite gets extremely hot after ten in the morning. Groups booking a jain pilgrimage tour karnataka package almost always structure day one around this stop and reach Varanga by evening.

Hassan
Gateway to the Hoysala Heritage
Hassan is the largest town between Bengaluru and the coast and the natural refuelling and rest point of the journey. Its real significance is as the base for Belur and Halebidu, the twelfth-century Hoysala temples inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2023. The Chennakeshava temple at Belur, thirty-eight kilometres away, carries soapstone carving so fine that individual bracelets on the celestial dancers are drilled through, and Halebidu’s Hoysaleswara temple runs a continuous carved frieze of elephants, horses and epic scenes around its entire base. Adding both to a Varanga itinerary needs an extra day, but families travelling in a tempo traveller frequently do exactly that. If you are not detouring, Hassan is still where your driver will stop for a proper meal, top up fuel and check tyres before the ghat section — a sensible habit, because from here the road begins to climb.

Sakleshpur
Coffee, Pepper and the Malnad Air
You feel Sakleshpur before you see it. The temperature drops, the light goes green, and coffee estates with pepper vines twisted up the shade trees close in on both sides of the highway. This is the heart of the Malnad, and Sakleshpur has become a weekend hill station in its own right with homestays scattered across the slopes. Manjarabad Fort, built by Tipu Sultan in 1792 in a perfect star shape and reached by a short flight of steps off the highway, is the one stop worth making — the view from the ramparts on a clear morning takes in the entire Bisle range. The old Sakleshpur to Subrahmanya railway line, with its viaducts and tunnels cut through the ghat, runs somewhere below you through the forest. Ask your driver to stop at one of the estate-run coffee stalls here; the filter coffee on this stretch is the best on the route by a wide margin.

Karkala
Bahubali’s Second Hill
Karkala is the last real town before Varanga and the administrative centre of this taluk. The 42-foot Bahubali monolith of 1432 dominates the skyline from its granite outcrop, the Chaturmukha Basadi of 1586 faces it from the opposite hill, and between them lies Anekere lake and the Padu Tirupati temple. This is where you fill fuel, draw cash and buy anything you might need, because Varanga village has only small provision shops. The road from Karkala to Hebri narrows and the traffic thins to almost nothing. Note the varanga to karkala distance — about twenty-two kilometres by the Hebri road — because a number of visitors base themselves in Karkala hotels and make Varanga a morning excursion rather than staying in the village.

Varanga
The Floating Temple Village
Hebri is a forest-edge town on the Karkala to Agumbe road, and the last eight kilometres from Hebri to Varanga run through areca plantations and paddy on a single-lane village road. There is no signage worth relying on, which is another reason a driver who has done this route before is worth having. Then the road opens, the lake appears on the left, and the Kere Basadi is sitting there in the middle of it looking exactly as it has for eight and a half centuries. The boat operates through daylight hours for a nominal fee, full-length clothing is expected, and photography of the interior is restricted. Arrive before nine in the morning or after four in the afternoon for the light. Simple accommodation is available at the matha and in Karkala, and the Jain meals served at the temple complex are worth planning your day around.

Bangalore to Varanga Cab Packages
Corporate Package
Built for offsites, MICE groups and leadership retreats heading to the coast. GST invoicing, Proforma Invoice for purchase-order approval, thirty-day credit terms for registered corporate accounts, and consolidated monthly billing. Vehicles are allocated from the executive segment — Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Toyota Camry and Corolla Altis for smaller teams; tempo travellers, minibuses and full-size coaches for larger groups. Drivers on corporate deployments carry ID, follow a fixed reporting protocol and provide a written trip sheet at the close of each day. Bengaluru pickups are coordinated across multiple tech park gates so that a single group travelling from Whitefield, Manyata and Electronic City departs together.
Family Package
The most common booking on this route. A family of four or five travels comfortably in an Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross; a joint family of eight to eighteen fits a tempo traveller. The package is built around flexibility rather than a fixed schedule — the driver waits at Shravanabelagola for as long as the climb takes, stops at Sakleshpur for coffee, and adjusts the Karkala and Udupi legs to the group’s pace. Child seats can be arranged on request, luggage space is confirmed at the quoting stage, and for elderly passengers we allocate vehicles with higher entry steps and better rear suspension for the ghat section.
Budget Package
For two to four travellers who want the destination without the premium. A Swift Dzire or Toyota Etios on this route starts at Rs 13 per kilometre with a two-day minimum, which works out considerably cheaper per head than train plus local transfers once you account for the Udupi to Karkala to Hebri legs. Fuel, base fare and driver allowance are included; tolls, parking and GST are billed at actuals. Booking Monday to Thursday rather than over a weekend typically brings the total down further, and travelling outside the October to January peak reduces it again.
Jain Pilgrimage Circuit Package
A three-day route designed specifically around the Karnataka Jain heritage triangle: Shravanabelagola on day one, an overnight at Hassan or Sakleshpur, Moodbidri and Karkala on day two, Varanga’s three basadis on day three morning, and a return via Agumbe or the coast. Drivers assigned to this package are briefed on temple timings, darshan protocols and the shoe and clothing rules at each site, and the itinerary is built to reach each basadi during its open hours rather than arriving at a closed door. Jain meal stops are pre-identified along the whole route.
Luxury and VIP Package
For trustee visits, high-profile pilgrimages, wedding-linked travel and guests who expect a particular standard. The fleet available on this route includes the Toyota Fortuner, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Rolls-Royce Ghost for city and short-distance use. Chauffeurs travel in formal attire, vehicles are detailed before dispatch, and given the limited size of the luxury fleet in Bengaluru and heavy demand during the November to February wedding season, these bookings should be confirmed well in advance.
Our Fleet for the Bangalore to Varanga Route
Tejas Tours and Travels operates a mixed fleet sized for everything from a couple to a temple trust contingent. For four to seven passengers we run Toyota Etios, Swift Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Toyota Commuter, Corolla Altis, Camry, Fortuner, and the luxury segment covering Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost. For eight to eighteen passengers we deploy tempo travellers in standard and luxury configuration. For thirteen to seventeen passengers the Force Urbania is the premium option, with individual reclining seats and a cabin height that makes the nine-hour ghat run considerably less tiring. Groups of twelve to twenty-four travel by minibus, and groups of twenty-seven to fifty by full-size coach, including Volvo and Mercedes-Benz multi-axle buses. Please note that we do not operate sleeper buses on any route.
For the Varanga run specifically, the vehicle recommendation depends less on group size than on the ghat section. Anything larger than a minibus needs careful routing on the last eight kilometres from Hebri, and during the peak monsoon our operations desk will often recommend the Charmadi Ghat approach or a vehicle swap at Karkala for very large groups. This is discussed at the quoting stage, not sprung on you at the roadside.
Billing, Inclusions and Exclusions
Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable as advance to confirm the booking. The balance is settled at the end of the trip after the advance is deducted.
Included in the quoted fare: base fare and fuel charges, and driver allowance.
Not included and billed separately: toll charges and parking; interstate tax where applicable; additional driver bata for travel after 9:45 pm; and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, not from your pickup point, and this is stated in the written quote before you confirm.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Travellers who want personal accident or travel cover should arrange it independently before departure.
Every quote is issued in writing over WhatsApp or email within two hours of enquiry, itemised line by line. There are no verbal-only prices, and no charge appears on the final bill that was not on the original quote.

STEP1 | Contact Tejas Travels Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire. |
STEP2 | Receive Your Written Quote Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. |
STEP3 | Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year). |
STEP4 | Your Driver Arrives Early Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure. For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled, and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire. The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy. During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, and Bangalore traffic navigation. At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional km or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate. |

What Our Customers Say About Our Cab Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Varanga Cab
Varanga is approximately 385 kilometres from Bengaluru by the fastest route, which runs on NH-75 through Hassan and Sakleshpur and descends Shiradi Ghat before turning north at Uppinangady. Driving time is eight and a half to nine and a half hours including two meal stops. The scenic alternative through Chikmagalur, Sringeri and Agumbe is about 402 kilometres and takes roughly ten hours, but is considerably more rewarding if you have the time.
Rates start at Rs 11180. Varanga trip is almost always a two or three-day round trip, the accurate figure depends on your itinerary — WhatsApp your dates and group size and you will have an itemised written quote within two hours.
Yes. One-way drops are available, though because Varanga is a village with limited return load, the one-way rate reflects the empty return leg. For most travellers a round trip works out more economical, and it also gives you the vehicle for local sightseeing around Karkala, Hebri and Udupi. If you are flying back from Mangaluru, a one-way to Varanga with a drop at Mangaluru airport on the return day is often the best value structure.
The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately are toll and parking, interstate tax where applicable, additional driver bata for travel after 9:45 pm, and GST. The final rental is computed on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. All of this appears on the written quote before you pay anything.
Twenty per cent of the total fare confirms the booking. Payment can be made by UPI, bank transfer, credit or debit card, or net banking. A receipt is issued within thirty minutes, along with the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration and departure time in writing.
The Kere Basadi is generally open through daylight hours with a break in the middle of the day, and the boat to the temple runs during those hours for a nominal charge. Timings shift around festivals such as Rathotsava, Mahavir Jayanti and Paryushana Parva, so ask your driver to call ahead from Karkala. Full-length clothing is expected and photography inside the shrine is restricted. There is no entry fee for darshan.
October to February gives the most comfortable weather and the clearest ghat driving. June to August is when the lake fills and the water lilies bloom, which is when the temple looks its most striking, but this is also when Shiradi Ghat is at its most difficult and landslide restrictions are possible. March to May is hot on the coastal plain and the lake level drops. For a first visit, late September through November is the sweet spot.
Up to four passengers, a sedan. Five to seven, an Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross. Eight to eighteen, a tempo traveller. Thirteen to seventeen with priority on comfort, a Force Urbania. Twelve to twenty-four, a minibus. Twenty-seven to fifty, a full-size or Volvo coach. Please note we do not operate sleeper buses, and for very large vehicles the final Hebri to Varanga stretch is assessed at the quoting stage.
Yes, and most travellers do. A three-day itinerary comfortably covers Shravanabelagola on the way out, Moodbidri and Karkala on day two, Varanga on day three morning and either Udupi and Malpe or the Agumbe ghat on the way back. Tell us the sites you want at the enquiry stage and the itinerary and kilometre estimate will be built around them rather than added as extras later.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. All vehicles carry statutory commercial vehicle insurance and permits, drivers are verified and licensed, and vehicles are serviced before dispatch, but personal accident or travel cover for passengers must be arranged independently. We recommend it for multi-day ghat routes.
Cancellation more than 72 hours before departure attracts no charge and the full advance is refunded within five to seven working days. Between 48 and 72 hours a ten per cent charge applies, between 24 and 48 hours twenty-five per cent, and between 12 and 24 hours fifty per cent. A no-show after the vehicle has been deployed is charged in full. If Tejas Travels cancels for a breakdown or force majeure reason, the full advance is refunded within two working days or a substitute vehicle is provided. Refunds go back to the original payment instrument. To cancel, WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference and you will have confirmation within two hours.
