Places to Visit in Kurnool

Konda Reddy Fort and the City
The Konda Reddy Buruju is the landmark of Kurnool - a tall watchtower and gateway from the Vijayanagara period standing in the middle of the modern city, named after a chieftain said to have been imprisoned in it. It is a modest monument in itself and the interest is in what it represents: this was a fortified town on the Tungabhadra long before it briefly became a state capital. The city also holds the Birla Mandir and the riverfront where the Hundri joins the Tungabhadra. Visit for an hour on an arrival evening; Kurnool is a working city and its interest is as a base rather than a sight.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Kodikonda
Border Town of the Deccan
This is the easiest exit from Bangalore of any route we operate - NH 44 runs north past the international airport on six lanes from the start, and the airport traffic thins beyond Devanahalli. Our drivers aim to be past the airport before 6:15 AM on a circuit departure. Devanahalli holds the fort where Tipu Sultan was born in 1751, standing a short distance off the highway and almost entirely ignored by the traffic. Chikkaballapur follows with the Nandi Hills to the west. Bagepalli is the last Karnataka town, and the Andhra border comes at Kodikonda with the checkpost and toll plaza - the interstate permit is presented here, arranged by us in advance so it is a formality.

Anantapur
Groundnut Capital of India
The Lepakshi turn comes up shortly after the border, around fifteen kilometres off the highway, and it is the best detour available on any road out of Bangalore - the hanging pillar, the great ceiling murals and the monolithic Nandi, in ninety minutes. On a Kurnool circuit trip it is worth building into the outbound leg rather than hoping to fit it on the way back. Penukonda follows, the fortress the Vijayanagara empire retreated to after Hampi fell, now also the site of a major automobile plant that has reshaped the local economy. Anantapur, at just over two hundred kilometres, is the groundnut capital of India and the natural breakfast halt on this route, with good options on the bypass. Beyond it the highway continues north through increasingly dry country.
Gooty
Hill Fort of Rayalaseema
Sixty kilometres of continuing excellent divided highway across open Rayalaseema. This is dry, hot country - the district is among the least watered in India - and the landscape is granite outcrop and scrub, with the occasional irrigated patch marking a tank or a borewell belt. Gooty announces itself with its fort, a Vijayanagara and later Maratha stronghold built across a steep granite outcrop directly above the road. Murari Rao held it and Hyder Ali took it after a long siege; the walls climb the rock in stages and the whole thing is visible from the highway. It is a worthwhile hour for anyone with time in hand, and it is one of three substantial forts on this corridor along with Penukonda and Rayadurgam.

Kurnool
First Capital of Andhra State
Ninety-five kilometres of fast highway north. Dhone is a railway town where the lines toward Guntakal, Kurnool and Nandyal meet, and it is the sort of place whose importance is entirely invisible from the road. Beyond it the country begins to change - the Nallamala hills appear on the eastern horizon and the land drops toward the Tungabhadra basin. Kurnool sits where the Hundri joins the Tungabhadra, with the Konda Reddy fort tower in the middle of the modern city. It was the capital of Andhra State from 1953 to 1956 before the move to Hyderabad, and it retains a certain civic weight from that. Practically it is a substantial city with the hotels, hospitals, fuel and services a circuit trip needs, and it is the base from which Belum, Yaganti, Mahanandi, Ahobilam and Alampur are all reachable. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 6:00 AM departure puts most travellers in Kurnool by around 10:30 AM.

Cab Packages for Every Traveller
Every quotation is built around what you actually need rather than a fixed menu. The four tiers below describe how we typically structure car booking enquiries on this corridor.
Family and Circuit Cab Package
The booking we would recommend to anyone travelling for interest rather than business, and the one this district actually deserves. A three-day circuit based at Kurnool covers Belum Caves and Yaganti on one day, Mahanandi and Nandyal on another, and Alampur or Orvakal on the third - or substitutes Ahobilam for a full day if pilgrimage is the purpose. Innova and Innova Crysta are the usual choice. The vehicle staying with the group is not optional here: the sites are sixty to a hundred and fifty kilometres apart in different directions, and local transport between them is effectively nonexistent.
Corporate Cab Package
Kurnool is a district headquarters with a substantial agricultural trade, a growing industrial presence and administrative functions that generate steady business travel from Bangalore. Sedans and Innova Crysta are the standard vehicles. Documentation is handled up front, with GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for purchase-order approval, monthly consolidated billing and thirty-day credit terms for signed accounts. At four and a half hours each way a same-day return is feasible but tight - leave at 5:30 AM and back by 9:00 PM gives around six usable hours - and for anything beyond a single meeting we would suggest an overnight.
Budget Cab Package
For couples and small families where the priority is the lowest defensible figure. A sedan handles this entire route comfortably - it is one of the best highways in South India for its full length - and there is no case for upselling on the drive itself. Budget means a sedan and a direct itinerary; it does not mean an older vehicle or a less experienced driver, since fleet and driver standards are identical across tiers. The one caveat is Ahobilam: the track to Upper Ahobilam and the shrines beyond is rough, and a higher vehicle is materially more comfortable if that is on your list.
Premium and Luxury Cab Package
For senior family groups, guest hosting and travellers who want a four and a half hour run and a multi-day circuit to be comfortable. This tier covers our premium car rentals in bangalore range and the innova hycross rent bangalore fleet, alongside our luxury car rental bangalore options. On a circuit itinerary the vehicle is where the group spends a great deal of the day - the sites are far apart and the driving between them is substantial - which makes ride quality and climate control a functional consideration in a district this hot.
Fare Inclusions, Exclusions and Advance Payment
Every Tejas Tours and Travels quotation for the Bangalore to Kurnool corridor is issued in writing with the structure below. Nothing outside this list is charged, and everything inside it is stated before you confirm.
Advance payment: 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
1. Base fare and fuel charges
2. Driver allowance
Not Included in the Quoted Fare
3. Toll and parking charges
4. Interstate tax and permit charges
5. Driver bata after 9:45 PM, charged extra
6. Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
7. GST
Insurance note: Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel cover where required. Vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law.
Three points are specific to this route. First, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit applies since the road crosses the border at Kodikonda, and it is quoted as a separate line at actual and arranged in advance. Second, Belum Caves tickets, temple entry and any guide charges are paid on site and sit outside the vehicle fare. Third, and most relevant here: local running on a circuit itinerary is substantial, because Belum, Yaganti, Ahobilam, Mahanandi and Alampur lie in four different directions at distances of sixty to a hundred and fifty kilometres. A three-day Kurnool circuit will run several hundred kilometres of local driving, and our package quotes carry a stated allowance for it rather than a bare point-to-point figure that overruns at settlement.

How to Book a Car for Rent in Bangalore — Step-by-Step
Booking a Car for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under 5 minutes. Follow these 4 steps:
STEP1 | Contact Tejas Travels Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire. |
STEP2 | Receive Your Written Quote Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. |
STEP3 | Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year). |
STEP4 | Your Driver Arrives Early Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure. For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled, and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire. The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy. During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, and Bangalore traffic navigation. At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional km or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate. |

What Our Customers Say About Our Cab Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kurnool Cab
The bangalore to kurnool distance is around 360 km via NH 44 north through Chikkaballapur, Penukonda, Anantapur, Gooty and Dhone, with reported figures between 350 km and 370 km. A cab takes 4 hours 15 minutes to 5 hours with one halt. It is six-lane divided highway effectively the whole way with no ghat, no forest gate and no significant bottleneck, which makes it one of the fastest long routes we operate.
More than most people expect, and almost none of it is well known. Belum Caves, the second longest cave system in India, is about a hundred and five kilometres south. Yaganti, with its hillside temple and the Nandi held to be growing, is around a hundred. Mahanandi and its spring-fed tanks are sixty-five east near Nandyal. Ahobilam, with nine Narasimha shrines scattered through the Nallamala, is around a hundred and fifty. Alampur, with seventh-century Chalukyan temples, is twenty-seven north across the Tungabhadra. A proper visit is two or three days.
Two at minimum, three to do it properly. The sites lie in four different directions at distances of sixty to a hundred and fifty kilometres, so a single day gets you Kurnool city and one destination. A three-day circuit covers Belum and Yaganti on one day, Mahanandi and Nandyal on another, and Alampur or Orvakal on the third - or substitutes a full day for Ahobilam if that is the purpose. Local transport between these sites is effectively nonexistent, so the vehicle staying with your group is not optional here.
A sedan starts at Rs 10,480. Two and three-day circuit itineraries are quoted on plan and vehicle, and Innova and premium SUV rates are quoted separately. Every quote itemizes base fare, driver allowance, toll estimate, the Andhra Pradesh interstate permit and GST separately, and includes a stated allowance for local running on circuit bookings, which on this route is substantial.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms your booking and holds the specific vehicle for your dates. The advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes, and your confirmation includes the driver name, mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time and the full billing breakdown in writing. For festival periods at Ahobilam and Mahanandi a higher advance may be requested.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Not included: toll and parking, interstate tax and permit charges, driver bata after 9:45 PM, and GST. Belum Caves tickets, temple entry and any guide or trek charges at Ahobilam are paid on site. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, and on a circuit itinerary the local running forms a large part of that total, which is why our package quotes state the allowance rather than leaving it open.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Our vehicles carry the statutory motor insurance required under law and our drivers hold valid commercial licences, but passengers wanting personal travel cover should arrange it independently. For groups attempting the Ahobilam shrines, which involve genuine trekking on rough hill paths, we recommend it more strongly than usual.
Yes, and it is the most common extension. Srisailam is around a hundred and eighty kilometres east of Kurnool through Atmakur and the Nallamala forest, and Kurnool is the natural overnight for anyone making that journey from Bangalore. Note that the final ghat into Srisailam is restricted by the forest department at night, commonly reported as no vehicles after around 9:00 PM, so a Kurnool base and a morning departure is the sensible way to do it. Tell us at the quotation stage so the kilometres are in the plan.
Yes, and it is the single most underrated site in this part of India. It is the second longest cave system in the country and the longest in the plains - a limestone system formed by an underground river, with around a kilometre and a half open to visitors including the meditation chamber, the stalactite formations and the Patalaganga point far below the surface. Allow two hours underground. It stays cool inside regardless of the season, which makes it the one site in this district that works even in the summer months.
October to February. Kurnool sits in one of the hotter parts of Rayalaseema and April to June is severe, which matters considerably for a circuit involving hill temples, open forts and the Ahobilam trek. Belum Caves is the exception, staying cool inside year round. For Rollapadu and the great Indian bustard, the winter months and an early morning are the only realistic window.
