Directly across the valley, Nandi Hills was Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and is still Bangalore's favourite sunrise spot. Tipu's Drop, the Yoga Nandeeshwara Temple and cool morning air make it an easy add-on for anyone in the group who did not trek. It is roughly 20 minutes from Skandagiri by road.
Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple
At Nandi village, at the foot of Nandi Hills, this is one of the finest early temples in Karnataka, with additions by the Ganga, Chola, Hoysala and Vijayanagara dynasties. The carved pillars and the large stepped temple tank, the Shringi Theertha, are beautiful in the soft light after sunrise.
Adiyogi and Sadhguru Sannidhi
Near Chikkaballapur stands the 112-foot Adiyogi statue at Sadhguru Sannidhi, a replica of the famous figure in Coimbatore. The site has become one of the most visited places north of Bangalore, and the evening light show draws big crowds on weekends. It fits neatly into a Skandagiri day for families.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya Memorial, Muddenahalli
Muddenahalli, visible from the Skandagiri summit, is the birthplace of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the engineer and statesman whose birthday India marks as Engineers Day. His ancestral home is now a memorial and museum with his personal belongings and instruments.
Devanahalli Fort and Tipu's Birthplace
Devanahalli, beside the airport, has a well-preserved oval fort and a small memorial marking the spot where Tipu Sultan was born in 1750. It is a fitting stop after seeing the Tipu-era ruins on Skandagiri, and it is right on the way home.
Srinivasa Sagara Dam
A short drive from Chikkaballapur, Srinivasa Sagara is a small reservoir with a stepped spillway that turns into a broad waterfall after good rains. It is a relaxed picnic spot and a pleasant place for breakfast after the trek.

Close by lies Muddenahalli, the "Birthplace of Sir M. Visvesvaraya", the great engineer behind the Krishna Raja Sagara dam, whose ancestral home is now a memorial.
