Places to Visit in Moodabidri

Saavira Kambada Basadi

Saavira Kambada Basadi

The thousand-pillar basadi, properly the Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani, completed in 1430 and the finest Jain structure on this coast. The hall carries something close to a thousand granite pillars and the celebrated feature is that no two carry the same carving - figures, geometric bands, floral work, each column different. The tiered roof shows the coastal Tulu style rather than a Deccan one. A manastambha stands in front. Visit in the morning when the light comes into the hall properly; allow an hour and look up as well as around.

The Dhavala Manuscripts and the Jain Math

The Dhavala Manuscripts and the Jain Math

The Jain Math at Moodabidri holds palm-leaf manuscripts of the Dhavala, Jayadhavala and Mahadhavala - commentaries on the Shatkhandagama and among the most significant surviving texts of the Digambara tradition, preserved in this small town for centuries. They are religious property rather than museum exhibits and access is not casual; viewing is at the discretion of the math and generally restricted. Visit the math for the setting and ask respectfully rather than expecting a display. That these documents survived here at all is the point worth carrying away.

Chowta Palace

Chowta Palace

The eighteenth-century palace of the Chowta rulers, who governed this part of the coast, is a wooden structure of the kind Tulu Nadu built and very little of which survives - carved pillars, sloping tiled roofs, inner courtyards and a scale that is domestic rather than imperial. It houses a collection of artefacts and manuscripts. Visit for an hour; it is a rare surviving example of coastal Karnataka domestic architecture and it is a good deal quieter than the basadis. Access arrangements vary, so check locally on the day.

Karkala and the Chaturmukha Basadi

Karkala and the Chaturmukha Basadi

Twenty kilometres north, Karkala holds a forty-two foot Bahubali carved from a single granite block and raised on Gomatabetta in 1432, standing on a bare rock hill with the coastal plain and the Ghats in view. Below it sits the Chaturmukha Basadi of 1586, a four-faced structure with identical entrances on all sides and Tirthankara images facing each way - severe, symmetrical and unlike anything else in the region. Visit both in a morning. The climb to the statue is short and stepped, and the view alone justifies it.

Venur

Venur

Twenty-five kilometres east, Venur is a village on the Phalguni with a thirty-five foot Bahubali raised in 1604 by the Ajila chieftains - the smallest of the coastal monoliths and by a distance the least visited. There are also basadis and the remains of the Ajila palace. There is essentially nothing else there. Visit precisely for that: a six-hundred-year-old monolithic statue standing in a quiet village with no crowd, no queue and no commerce around it, which is an experience Shravanabelagola cannot offer.

Mangalore and the Coast

Mangalore and the Coast

Moodabidri sits thirty-five kilometres inland from Mangalore, which puts the whole coast within easy reach - Panambur and Tannirbhavi beaches, the Kadri Manjunath temple, the Sultan Battery watchtower and the confluence at Sasihithlu. Further north, Udupi has the Krishna temple and Malpe the boat to St Mary Islands, with their columnar basalt formations. Visit the coast as a second or third day. For many groups the Jain circuit and the coast together make the trip, and Moodabidri is well placed to be the base for both.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Moodabidri Route

Corporate Package

Bangalore companies use this route for coastal offsites based in Mangalore, for plant and dealer visits across Dakshina Kannada, and increasingly for staff heritage or temple trips. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver team for the full trip and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate bus rental bangalore vehicle stays with your team throughout, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. For headcounts past fifty we run coordinated multiple coaches so the group arrives together rather than in waves. Our corporate travels desk manages the arrangement end to end.

Family, Pilgrimage and Heritage Package

Two overlapping groups book this. Jain families and associations travelling for the basadis and the Bahubali statues, often taking Shravanabelagola on the way out and Karkala and Venur on the way back, and temple associations passing through on the wider coastal week with Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya and Udupi. The package is planned around darshan timings rather than driving times, with the coach waiting through each visit. For guest movement at coastal weddings, where Bangalore families frequently travel down together, we coordinate the coach with cars through our wedding car rental bangalore service so the whole party moves on one schedule.

School and College Package

This is the natural budget tier on this route and the biggest single source of group traffic to Moodabidri. The Jain basadi and Bahubali circuit is a standard history and heritage itinerary, and Pilikula at Mangalore adds a science and biology component that makes the trip work for a whole school year group. Non-AC 27 to 45 seater coaches, verified drivers, and route planning that keeps the day realistic for children. The bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, which matters when the trip is funded by student contribution. Vehicle specification is the only difference between tiers, never maintenance, driver vetting or compliance.

Luxury and Volvo Package

Volvo and BharatBenz coaches in seated configuration, with wider reclining seats, better suspension and the cabin insulation that makes a seven hour journey pass quickly. The suspension difference is felt most on the ghat descent. This tier suits senior management travel, conference movements to Mangalore and premium family occasions. Our volvo bus rental bangalore fleet covers it, and we will advise honestly on where a Volvo can and cannot be parked once you are inside the Moodabidri and Karkala circuit.

Our Bus Fleet in Bangalore

Our bus fleet runs 27 to 50 seater coaches in AC and non-AC, including Volvo and Benz vehicles for the premium tier. We operate the full range of group transport from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you across categories without restarting the process.

•      Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, the core vehicle for this route

•      Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, AC and non-AC, for groups below twenty-five and for the Venur and Karkala legs

•      Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller parties and for local sightseeing alongside a coach

•      Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van

•      Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova and Commuter through Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle we run is seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route we schedule departures so the Shiradi ghat is driven in daylight rather than at night, and where a group prefers to split the journey we plan a hotel halt at Hassan or Sakleshpur.

Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra

We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.

Included in the Quoted Fare

•      Base fare and fuel charges

•      Driver allowance

Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals

•      Toll charges and parking fees

•      Interstate tax where applicable. The Moodabidri route stays within Karnataka, so no interstate permit arises unless your itinerary extends beyond the state

•      Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•      GST as applicable

•      Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns. We factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•      Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Moodabidri Bus

The bangalore to moodabidri distance is approximately 335 kilometres via Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna, Hassan, Sakleshpur, the Shiradi ghat, Uppinangady and Bantwal, which comes to seven to eight hours including halts. The route stays on NH75 for all but the last thirty kilometres. The alternative up the Charmadi ghat through Ujire and Dharmasthala is around 365 kilometres and is worth taking on one leg if Dharmasthala is on your itinerary. We recommend a 5:00 AM departure so the ghat descent is driven in daylight.

Yes. NH75 carries full-size coaches to the coast every night of the week and the road north from Bantwal is a good two-lane highway. Where size matters is inside the circuit: the streets between the Moodabidri basadis are narrow with limited set-down space, the Gomateshwara at Karkala involves a climb from a small parking area, and the Venur road is a country road. We plan set-down points in advance and, where it helps, arrange a smaller vehicle for those legs alongside the coach.

Bus fares around Rs 26,540. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific bus on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. For festival dates and bookings above Rs 50,000, a higher advance may be required.

Regularly, and it is the largest single source of group traffic we carry on this route. The Jain basadis at Moodabidri, the Bahubali monoliths at Karkala and Venur, and Shravanabelagola on the outbound leg together make one of the better heritage itineraries in Karnataka, and Pilikula at Mangalore adds a science and biology element. We plan realistic day lengths for children, coordinate boarding at the institution, and can run multiple coaches on a single coordinated departure for a full year group.

Two nights covers Moodabidri properly with a day for Karkala and Venur. Three nights lets you add Mangalore and the coast, or Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya. Groups doing the full coastal temple week through Udupi and Kollur should plan five nights. Shravanabelagola fits on the outbound or return leg without costing a separate day, which is the neatest way to line up all three Bahubali statues in one trip.

No. The route stays entirely within Karnataka, so no interstate permit or border tax applies, which makes billing on this corridor simpler and cheaper than our Kerala and Tamil Nadu routes. Permits become relevant only if your itinerary extends beyond the state. Tolls and parking are still billed at actuals as on every route.

We do not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle we run is seated configuration with push-back seats. The Shiradi ghat has been concreted and is in far better condition than its old reputation, and full-size coaches use it daily, but it remains a forested descent that deserves a steady pace and it slows considerably in heavy monsoon. We schedule departures so it is driven in daylight, and where a group wants to split the journey we plan a halt at Hassan or Sakleshpur.

October to May. The Dakshina Kannada monsoon between June and September is among the heaviest in India and, while the roads stay open, sightseeing outdoors becomes difficult and the ghat is slow. If your travel coincides with the Alva’s Nudisiri or Virasat periods, expect the town to be full and book both the coach and your accommodation well in advance, since local capacity is limited.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your travel date, Bangalore pickup location, group size and day-wise itinerary. A written itemised quote follows within 2 hours; confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our bangalore bus booking and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
