Places to Visit in Idukki

Idukki Arch Dam and Hill View Park

Idukki Arch Dam and Hill View Park

The arch stands a hundred and sixty-eight metres high across the Periyar gorge between the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, built without buttresses so that the water pressure holds it into the rock - among the first arch dams in Asia and still one of the tallest. Hill View Park above Cheruthoni gives the view down onto it and the gorge, with a garden and a viewpoint, and it operates independently of access to the dam itself. Visit in the morning before cloud builds. Check the current access position before travelling if walking on the dam is the point of your trip.

Ramakkalmedu

Ramakkalmedu

Around forty kilometres from Idukki near Nedumkandam, Ramakkalmedu sits on the edge of the range at about 1,100 metres and looks straight out over the Tamil Nadu plains - Theni, Bodi and the Cumbum valley laid out below with the wind coming up the escarpment hard enough to knock you sideways. It is among the windiest inhabited places in India and a wind farm stands on the ridge. The Kuravan and Kurathi statues are here. Visit at sunset for the view east and the light on the plains, and hold onto anything loose; the wind is not an exaggeration.

Vagamon

Vagamon

North-west of Idukki town, Vagamon is a plateau of open grassland meadows, pine forest and tea slopes at around 1,100 metres - a completely different landscape from the rest of the district, closer to a downland than a hill station, and it has become the most visited part of Idukki after Munnar. Mundakayam ghat road, the pine forest plantation, Kurisumala and the meadows are the standard circuit, and paragliding operates in season. Visit for two days rather than one. It is significantly quieter midweek and the meadows are at their best from September through February.

Thommankuthu Falls

Thommankuthu Falls

Around fifty kilometres from Idukki near Thodupuzha, Thommankuthu is a waterfall that descends in seven distinct steps down a forested hillside, each with its own pool, connected by a trekking path that takes a couple of hours to follow properly. The lower steps are easily reached; the upper ones need the walk. It is an eco-tourism site run with local guides. Visit between July and January when there is real water, wear footwear that copes with wet rock, and treat the pools with respect - the flow after heavy rain is considerably stronger than it looks.

The Cardamom Belt at Vandanmedu and Kattappana

The Cardamom Belt at Vandanmedu and Kattappana

Vandanmedu, on the road in from Kumily, is one of the largest cardamom auction centres anywhere, where the crop from these hills is graded and traded, and Kattappana beyond it is the market town at the centre of the High Range spice economy. Between them they handle a very large share of Indian cardamom. Plantation visits can be arranged around Kattappana and the trade is the whole reason these towns exist. Visit if the spice trade interests you; auctions run to their own schedule and are not a tourist facility, so ask locally rather than assuming access.

Kulamavu, Malankara and the Sanctuary

Kulamavu, Malankara and the Sanctuary

Kulamavu is the third dam of the Idukki complex and its reservoir shoreline is accessible and quiet, with a good view back toward the arch. Malankara, near Thodupuzha, is a smaller reservoir with boating and a pleasant lakeside. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds the main reservoir - around seventy square kilometres of forest holding elephant, gaur, sambar and a good deal of birdlife, with access arranged through the forest department. Visit any of these as half days; collectively they are how you actually spend time in Idukki, as opposed to looking at one dam.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Idukki Route

Corporate Package

Built for Bangalore IT and manufacturing teams heading to the high ranges for offsites, team outings and annual trips. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full multi-day charter and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate bus rental bangalore vehicle stays with your team across the Kattappana, Cheruthoni and Ramakkalmedu legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Our corporate travels bangalore desk handles the arrangement end to end, including airport pickups for colleagues flying in.

Family Package

Extended families and association groups of twenty-five to fifty travelling over four to six days, usually combining the Idukki dam circuit with Thekkady and Munnar, both of which sit inside the same district. The itinerary is planned around dam viewing hours and plantation timings rather than driving hours, and the driver is briefed to expect long waits. On hill roads, having one warm vehicle waiting at every stop matters more for older travellers than any other feature of the booking.

Budget Package

For groups where cost per head decides the trip. Non-AC 27 to 41 seater coaches, point to point, clean vehicle, verified driver, no frills. This suits college groups, parish and community trips and association travel, which make up a large share of Idukki bookings. The bus rent per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a 1,180 kilometre round trip the saving across a full coach is substantial. Non-AC is a reasonable choice here, since the district sits above a thousand metres for most of the itinerary. The budget tier is about specification only, never about maintenance or driver vetting.

Luxury Package

Volvo and Benz coaches with wider push-back seats, better suspension for the long ghat sections, superior sound insulation and premium interiors. On a route of nearly 600 kilometres each way, the difference is practical rather than cosmetic. Suited to senior management travel, milestone family trips and large events. Our volvo bus rental bangalore tier is the usual choice, though note the hill-road guidance above. For smaller premium groups, the luxury urbania rental bangalore option in 13 to 17 seater configuration reaches every stop in the district without restriction.

Our Bus Fleet in Bangalore

Our ac bus rental bangalore fleet covers 27 to 50 seater coaches, including Volvo and Benz. Every group vehicle category runs from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount shifts after booking, or if the itinerary argues for a smaller coach on the hill legs, we can usually change category without restarting the process.

•             Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, AC and non-AC

•             Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, the easiest large-group option on the narrower Idukki roads

•             Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller parties

•             Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van

•             Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross through Fortuner and Commuter, up to Corolla Altis, Camry, Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. Every vehicle in the fleet is seated configuration with push-back seats, which is why we plan this route either as a very early daytime start or as a two-day run with a halt at Theni or Kumily, rather than as an overnight haul. On a trip that ends with two ghat sections, arriving in daylight with a rested driver is the only sensible way to do it.

Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra

We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises every line, so nothing appears at trip end that you have not already approved. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking.

Included in the Quoted Fare

•             Base fare and fuel charges

•             Driver allowance

Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals

•             Toll charges and parking fees

•             Interstate tax for the Karnataka to Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu to Kerala crossings

•             Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•             GST as applicable

•             Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

Garage-to-garage billing is the standard basis across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the coach leaves our garage for your pickup point and stops when it returns. That distance is already built into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you settle.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the entire fleet.

How to Book a Bus for Rent in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a bus for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•             Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•             Share your travel date.

•             Share your Bangalore pickup location — area, tech park or hotel name, such as Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata, the BIAL airport area or MG Road.

•             Share your destination or full day-wise itinerary.

•             Share your total group size.

•             Share your preferred bus tier: Standard, Executive, Luxury, Volvo or Benz.

•             Tell us which Idukki stops you plan to cover, so we can advise on coach size before you book rather than after.

•             For multi-day Kerala hire, provide the full itinerary so we can allocate a driver experienced on the Kumily and Kattappana hill roads.

•             For monthly employee commute contract hire, share the route and schedule details.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•             Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•             The quote itemises every charge:

•             Bus hire rate — per kilometre or flat local package

•             Driver allowance

•             Applicable toll estimates

•             Interstate permit and state tax for both crossings — Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, and Tamil Nadu to Kerala at Kumily

•             Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM

•             GST

•             No verbal-only pricing. Everything is in writing before you commit.

•             For MICE and corporate clients, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage for PO-based approval.

•             Request comparison quotes for a 35 seater versus a 45 seater at the same time, since coach size affects which Idukki stops are reachable.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•             Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•             A 20 percent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific bus on your date.

•             Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•             Advance receipt issued within 30 minutes.

•             Your confirmation includes:

•             Driver name and mobile number

•             Vehicle registration number

•             Departure time

•             Pickup location confirmation

•             Full billing breakdown — all sent to WhatsApp or email in writing

•             For peak dates such as New Year, Diwali, Onam, the April to May summer break and long IT weekends, book well ahead and pay the advance early.

Step 4 — Your Driver and Bus Arrive Early

•             Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at the Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•             For large groups from Electronic City or Whitefield, the driver coordinates the exact pickup gate in advance.

•             The bus is clean, sanitised, fuelled and GPS-active.

•             The driver calls you 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

•             During the trip the driver handles all highway exits, toll payments, both state border permit checkpoints, the ghat sections and rest stop coordination.

•             At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance.

•             Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written bus hire quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods — Bus for Rent and Hire in Bangalore

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods for both advance deposits and final settlement at trip end.

•             UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM UPI. The fastest method with instant confirmation. Recommended for advance deposits on bus hire.

•             Bank transfer — NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. For large corporate hire above Rs 15,000. IMPS is instant; NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

•             Credit and debit card — Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, via payment link sent to your registered mobile or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.

•             Net banking — All major Indian banks. Payment link via WhatsApp or email. Preferred for Bangalore MICE and corporate PO approvals.

•             Cash — Balance payable at time of travel, accepted at trip end. The advance must be digital for bus hire confirmation. A receipt is issued.

•             Corporate credit — For registered corporate accounts, with 30-day credit terms for signed corporate clients and monthly consolidated invoicing available.

A 20 percent advance confirms the specific bus on your date. For multi-day Kerala charters on peak dates, a higher advance may apply. Volvo and Benz coach hire should be confirmed well ahead with advance payment, since those units are limited.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Idukki Bus

The bangalore to idukki distance to Cheruthoni is approximately 590 kilometres via Hosur, Krishnagiri, Salem, Karur, Dindigul, Theni, Kumily and Kattappana, which is the route we run. That is 12 to 13 hours of driving before meal halts, and it is a long day in one go. Many groups break it at Theni or Kumily and take the hill section the next morning, which we quote the same way. Travelling straight through means leaving Bangalore by 4:00 AM so both ghat sections are driven in daylight.

As far as Kumily and on to Kattappana, yes. Beyond that some of the smaller approaches to viewpoints, plantations and dam access roads are genuinely tight for a full-size coach. For a group up to about thirty-five we recommend a 27 or 35 seater, which covers the entire itinerary without restriction. For larger groups the usual arrangement is a base at Kattappana or Kumily with local transfers for the narrower legs. We tell you which applies to your specific itinerary at the quote stage, before you pay anything.

Bus fares around Rs 46,300. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.

Yes, and this route needs two rather than one. The coach crosses from Karnataka into Tamil Nadu near Hosur, then from Tamil Nadu into Kerala at the Kumily check post. Both permits and the associated state taxes are billed at actuals rather than folded into the base rate. We arrange all documentation before departure, so there is nothing for you to organise, and our drivers handle both checkpoints as routine on every Kerala run.

Visitor access to the arch dam is restricted and the opening period varies from year to year, most often tied to the Onam season, with entry passes issued from a counter near the Cheruthoni dam. Because that changes, we ask groups to confirm the current position before building a day around it. The rest of the circuit, Cheruthoni, Kulamavu, Hill View Park, Kalvari Mount and the wildlife sanctuary, is available year round, so a trip does not fail if the arch dam itself is closed.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific bus on your travel date. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, and a receipt is issued within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. For Volvo and Benz coaches on peak dates a higher advance may be requested, since those units are limited.

No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route we would not recommend overnight driving in any case, since it finishes with a ghat climb to Kumily followed by narrow Kerala hill road to Kattappana and Cheruthoni. An early start, or a two-day run with a halt at Theni or Kumily, is both safer and a far better trip.

Four days is the practical minimum: travel down on day one, the dam circuit and Kattappana on day two, one more sightseeing day, and the drive back on day four. Five or six is better and lets you add Thekkady, which sits in the same district about seventy kilometres away, or Vagamon at the western edge. Groups covering Idukki, Thekkady and Munnar as one full-district circuit should plan seven days, since all three are inside Idukki district and the driving between them is slow hill road.

Yes, and this is how most groups book it. The same coach and driver remain with you throughout, covering the Cheruthoni and Kulamavu dams, Hill View Park, Kalvari Mount, the Kattappana plantations, Ramakkalmedu and any onward leg to Thekkady or Munnar, subject to the coach size guidance above. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance. Share your day-wise itinerary at enquiry stage and we quote the whole trip as one figure.
