Places to Visit in Chikmagalur

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka, rising to around 1,925 metres above sea level in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats. It is the landmark that most travellers plan their entire Chikmagalur trip around, and for good reason: the climb to the summit involves a well-marked trail and a set of concrete steps that bring most reasonably fit visitors to the top within an hour and a half, where a small temple sits at the highest point alongside commanding views of the surrounding valleys and the distant plains. On clear mornings, the drive up to the base itself is rewarding, as the road winds through grasslands, shola forests and patches of mist that make the landscape feel genuinely remote. Trekkers planning a Chikmagalur trekking experience often combine Mullayanagiri with the adjacent Seethalayanagiri peak or the trail toward Baba Budangiri, turning a single summit visit into a fuller day in the hills. Photographers and families alike prioritise this peak, since it can be enjoyed at different levels of effort depending on how far along the trail each person is comfortable going.

Photographers and families alike prioritise this peak, since it can be enjoyed at different levels of effort depending on how far along the trail each person is comfortable going.

Baba Budangiri

Baba Budangiri

Baba Budangiri, named after the seventeenth-century Sufi saint Baba Budan, is a mountain range that sits close to Mullayanagiri and is known as much for its spiritual significance as for its landscapes. The dargah of Hazrat Dada Hayat Khalandar at the summit draws pilgrims of multiple faiths throughout the year, making it one of the more unusual stops in Karnataka where Hindu, Muslim and folk traditions exist side by side in the same place. The range also features the Manikyadhara Falls, a waterfall that drops from around thirty feet into a valley of dense vegetation and is considered sacred by local devotees. For travellers arriving on a Bangalore to Chikmagalur cab booking, the usual plan is to cover both Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri on the same day, since the two peaks are connected by a ridge trail and are only a short drive apart by road. The views from Kavikal Gandi viewpoint, close to the Baba Budangiri shrine, are among the most photographed in the district.

Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National Park covers around 600 square kilometres of some of the best-preserved tropical wet evergreen forest in the Western Ghats and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the broader Western Ghats listing. The park is named after the Kudremukh peak, whose silhouette resembles the face of a horse, and reaches an elevation of over 1,800 metres. Inside the park, wildlife that includes tigers, leopards, elephants, lion-tailed macaques and the gaur moves through forest that rarely sees the kind of tourist pressure found in more accessible sanctuaries. Trekkers who book a Bangalore to Chikmagalur car rental specifically for Kudremukh usually plan a separate day for the park, since the trek to the peak itself covers around 20 kilometres and requires an early start and good physical fitness. The drive into the park through the Lobo hamlet is an experience in itself, with dense canopy overhead and the Bhadra river audible through the trees.

Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls is a two-tiered waterfall in the Kemmangundi area that drops a combined height of around 168 metres, split between the upper Dodda Hebbe and the lower Chikka Hebbe sections. What makes it particularly memorable is that reaching it requires a jeep ride through a working coffee and cardamom estate, so the journey to the falls is woven into the experience rather than simply being a walk to a viewpoint. The route through the estate means visitors pass rows of coffee plants under shade trees, with the sound of the waterfall growing louder as the jeep climbs. The water at the base has long carried a local belief that it holds mild medicinal properties from the herbs growing upstream. Families and couples booking a Chikmagalur tour package from Bangalore frequently ask for Hebbe Falls to be added to the second-day itinerary, pairing it with the Kemmangundi hill station and the Z Point trek for a full day in the Kemmangundi area.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across the northwestern edge of the Chikmagalur district, is a protected forest reserve that covers around 492 square kilometres and forms one of the key wildlife corridors in Karnataka. Jeep safaris run inside the sanctuary offer sightings of wild elephants, leopards, the Indian giant squirrel, the Malabar pied hornbill, and during good fortune, a tiger in the more remote sections of the forest. The Bhadra River runs through the heart of the sanctuary, and boat rides on certain stretches of the river add a different dimension to the wildlife experience compared to a standard safari. Travellers booking a longer Bangalore to Chikmagalur cab trip of three or more days often include a morning at Bhadra alongside the coffee plantations and trekking stops, since the combination gives a well-rounded picture of what the district has to offer beyond its peaks and waterfalls.

Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi is a small hill station at around 1,434 metres above sea level that was once used as a summer retreat by the Mysore royal family and is now maintained as a government-run park and forest area. The town sits about 60 kilometres from Chikmagalur and makes for a rewarding second-day excursion from a base in the main town, particularly for travellers who want to combine short nature walks with the famous Z Point trek, which passes through grasslands before opening onto a panoramic ridge view. Hebbe Falls is accessible from Kemmangundi, and the area's cooler climate, particularly from October to February, makes it comfortable enough for longer outdoor time without the physical demands of Mullayanagiri. For groups travelling on a one way cab Bangalore to Chikmagalur booking and spending two or three nights, Kemmangundi is almost always recommended as a day-trip stop.

Hirekolale Lake

Hirekolale Lake

Hirekolale Lake is a scenic reservoir on the outskirts of Chikmagalur town, surrounded by gentle hills and a quiet shoreline that is popular for an early morning or late afternoon walk. Unlike the more physically demanding peaks and trekking trails in the district, this lake is accessible to everyone in a travel group regardless of fitness level, making it a reliable inclusion when the group includes children or older travellers. The lake also offers a reflective view of the hills in the background during clear weather, and local vendors around the periphery serve fresh coffee grown on the nearby estates, which makes a break here feel genuinely of the place rather than a generic rest stop. Travellers booking a Bangalore to Chikmagalur taxi for a weekend trip often stop here on the first evening after arrival, before heading into the hills on the following morning.

Coffee Plantations

Coffee Plantations

Chikmagalur holds the distinction of being the place where coffee cultivation in India is believed to have begun, when the saint Baba Budan brought seven coffee seeds from Yemen in the seventeenth century and planted them in the hills that now bear his name. The coffee plantations that spread across the slopes around the town and toward Sakleshpur and Mudigere today draw visitors who want to understand where their morning cup comes from, and many estates now offer guided walks where guests can follow the fruit from the flowering stage through to drying and roasting. Estate stays have also grown significantly popular as a travel format among couples and small groups booking a Chikmagalur tour package from Bangalore, where a night in a planter's bungalow or a farm homestay is the centrepiece of the trip rather than a list of viewpoints. The best months for seeing the coffee in bloom, when the white flowers cover the plants and the fragrance carries across the hillside, are February and March.

Bangalore to Chikmagalur Bus Packages

Every group prices differently, so instead of a fixed rate card we build the charter around what the group actually needs. These four structures cover the vast majority of bus hire bangalore enquiries on this route.

Budget and College Package

The highest-volume booking on this corridor. Built for college batches, trekking clubs, photography groups and friend circles where cost per head decides everything: standard AC mini bus or bus, an efficient two-day one-night itinerary built around Mullayanagiri sunrise and a plantation walk, and transparent per-kilometre billing with no hidden loading. Because the hill roads suit smaller vehicles, a 21 or 27-seater running two trips often works out better for a large batch than one 45-seater that cannot climb. Institutions requiring escort staff, seat belts on every seat and verified driver credentials are handled through our college trip bus rental bangalore desk.

Corporate Package

For annual offsites, team outings and leadership retreats from Bangalore's IT corridors — Chikmagalur has become one of the most requested offsite destinations precisely because it is a single easy drive with plantation-stay properties that can host a whole team. Includes multiple pickup points across Whitefield, Electronic City, Manyata and Outer Ring Road, GST-compliant invoicing against your purchase order, a Proforma Invoice at quotation stage for internal approval, and one point of contact through the trip. Vehicles are Executive class with pushback seats, working AC and charging points. Repeat clients can open a 30-day credit account. Related service: corporate travels bangalore.

Family Package

For multi-family holidays and extended family trips where the group ranges from a toddler to grandparents. The itinerary shifts away from treks and towards what everyone can enjoy: Belur and Halebidu on the way in, a coffee plantation walk, Hirekolale Lake at sunset and Manikyadhara Falls, with Mullayanagiri approached by vehicle to the base rather than as a summit climb. Extra halt time is built into the schedule, and a 21 or 27-seater mini bus handles the estate approach roads that a coach cannot. If your group is under twelve people, a bangalore to chikmagalur tempo traveller is usually the better and cheaper choice, and our team will say so at quotation stage rather than upselling.

Luxury Package

Executive and Volvo coaches with air suspension, reclining pushback seats, individual reading lights and onboard entertainment, for groups who want the highway leg to be effortless. The honest caveat, and one we would rather state than sell around: a full-size luxury coach is excellent for the Bangalore to Chikmagalur run and the Belur and Halebidu circuit, but it should not attempt the Mullayanagiri, Baba Budangiri or Kemmangundi roads. The usual arrangement is a coach for the main journey plus local jeeps or a smaller vehicle for the hill sections. Explore the full volvo bus rental bangalore fleet, or see wedding bus rental Bangalore for estate-wedding guest movement.

Our Services — Available from Bangalore, Mysore and Across South India

Tejas Tours and Travels runs a full ground transport fleet rather than a single vehicle category, which means a group can move between vehicle classes as the requirement changes without changing vendors. Every service below is available from both Bangalore and Mysore, and on a Chikmagalur trip combining classes is often the right answer rather than a compromise.

Cab and Car Rental

Sedans, SUVs and premium cars for small groups, and the most practical choice for the hill roads. If your Chikmagalur party is four to six people, a car goes everywhere a bus cannot — see premium car rentals in bangalore for the full range, the bangalore to chikmagalur cab route page for this specific corridor, or the innova hycross rent bangalore page for the seven-seater families ask for most on ghat routes.

Tempo Traveller and Mini Bus

For Chikmagalur specifically, this is the category we recommend more often than any other. A 12 to 17-seater luxury tempo traveller bangalore or a 21 to 32-seater mini bus for rent in bangalore handles the single-track plantation approaches, the Kemmangundi road and the estate-stay driveways that stop a full coach. The extra manoeuvrability is worth more on this route than the extra seats.

Bus and Luxury Coach

Standard, Executive, Volvo and BharatBenz coaches from 27 to 49 seats for large group movement on the highway leg. See bus rental in bangalore for the complete fleet, or the luxury urbania rental bangalore page for the 13 to 17-seater Force Urbania, which combines premium interiors with a footprint the hill roads can take.

Corporate, Airport and Employee Transport

Beyond one-off charters we run contracted daily operations for Bangalore companies — employee transportation services bangalore with night shift coverage and route optimisation, airport transfer bangalore with live flight tracking for Kempegowda International Airport pickups, and corporate car rental bangalore accounts with monthly billing.

School Commute, Outstation and Wedding Travel

Institutional and occasion-based transport completes the fleet: school transportation services with verified drivers and tracking, outstation cabs bangalore for multi-day trips across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa and Andhra Pradesh, and wedding car rental bangalore for decorated cars and guest coaches. Custom tour packages combining several of these services can be built for any Malnad or Western Ghats circuit.

Billing Details for Bangalore to Chikmagalur Bus Hire

Every quotation we issue follows the same structure, so you know before confirming exactly what the quoted amount covers and what is settled separately at trip end.

Advance Payment

•      20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking and block the specific vehicle for your travel date.

•      The balance is settled at the end of the trip, after the final kilometre and hour calculation.

Inclusions

•      Base fare and fuel charges.

•      Driver allowance.

Exclusions

•      Toll and parking charges.

•      Inter-state tax and permit charges — not applicable on this route, as the journey stays within Karnataka, but listed here for completeness on multi-state itineraries.

•      Driver bata is charged extra for travel after 9:45 PM.

•      The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, which includes all local running in the Chikmagalur hills.

•      GST as applicable.

Important Notes

Driver night halt charges apply on all multi-day outstation hire. Since Chikmagalur is a two-day trip at minimum, this is quoted as a separate line item upfront rather than added at settlement.

Local jeep transfers at Mullayanagiri, Hebbe Falls, Kemmangundi and Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary are arranged by local operators and forest authorities and are not part of our quotation. We drop and wait at the transfer points; the jeep fare is paid directly on site.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance cover where required, particularly for trekking groups, college batches and corporate teams.

How to Book a Bus for Rent in Bangalore — Step by Step

Booking a bus for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 — Contact Tejas Travels

•      Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

•      Share your travel date.

•      Share your Bangalore pickup location — area, tech park or hotel name such as Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata, BIAL airport area or MG Road.

•      Share the destination or full day-wise itinerary.

•      Share the total group size.

•      Share your preferred bus tier — Standard, Executive, Luxury, Volvo or BharatBenz.

•      For Chikmagalur, Coorg, Ooty and other hill routes, share the name of your homestay or estate stay so we can check the approach road and allocate a vehicle that can actually reach it.

•      For monthly employee commute contract hire, share the route and schedule details.

Step 2 — Receive Your Written Quote

•      Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.

•      The quote itemizes every charge:

◦       Bus hire rate — Rs per km or flat package including local running in the hills.

◦       Driver allowance — Rs 700 to 1,250 per day depending on vehicle.

◦       Applicable toll estimates.

◦       Interstate permit costs where applicable — none for Chikmagalur, Tamil Nadu for Ooty and Chennai, Kerala for Wayanad, Goa, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati.

◦       Driver night halt charges, which apply on every multi-day Chikmagalur charter.

•      No verbal-only pricing — everything in writing before you commit.

•      For MICE and corporate clients, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage for PO-based approval.

•      Request comparison quotes for a mini bus versus a full coach at the same time — on this route the smaller vehicle is often the better answer.

Step 3 — Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

•      Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.

•      A 20 percent advance payment confirms the booking and guarantees the specific vehicle on your date.

•      For Chikmagalur during the monsoon peak, New Year, Diwali and Bangalore long weekends — book two to three weeks ahead, as mini buses and tempo travellers are the first category to be taken on this route.

•      For large corporate bookings above Rs 50,000, a higher advance may be required.

•      Payment options: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit and debit card via payment link.

•      Advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

•      Confirmation includes driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup confirmation and full billing breakdown — all in writing.

Step 4 — Your Driver and Bus Arrive Early

•      Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at the Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

•      For large groups from Electronic City or Whitefield, the driver coordinates the exact pickup gate.

•      The bus is clean, sanitized, fuelled and GPS-active.

•      The driver calls you 30 minutes before arrival.

•      During the trip, the driver handles all NH exits, toll payments, hill route decisions and rest stop coordination.

•      At trip end, the balance is settled after deducting the advance.

•      Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick Bus Hire Booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your group size, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written bus hire quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts every major digital and traditional payment method, both for the advance and for the final settlement at the end of the trip.

UPI is the fastest route and the one we recommend for all advance deposits. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay are all accepted, and confirmation is instant on receipt.

Bank transfer by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS suits corporate clients and any advance above Rs 5,000. IMPS clears instantly; NEFT can take up to two hours.

Credit and debit cards on Visa, Mastercard and RuPay are accepted through a payment link sent to your registered mobile or email, valid for both the advance and full payment.

Net banking from all major Indian banks works through the same payment link by WhatsApp or email, and is the preferred route for Bangalore IT corporates running purchase-order based approvals.

Cash is accepted for the balance at the end of the trip, with a receipt issued. The advance itself must be digital for the booking to be confirmed.

Corporate credit is available to registered corporate accounts on 30-day terms, with monthly consolidated invoicing on request.

A note on luxury vehicles: for the Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class, a higher advance may be required, given limited fleet availability in Bangalore and demand through the wedding season.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Chikmagalur Bus

The bangalore to chikmagalur distance is approximately 245 km via NH 75 through Hassan and Belur, or 250 km via Tiptur, Arsikere and Kadur. A private bus covers it in 5 to 5 hours 30 minutes including one halt. Adding Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu on the way in extends the day by three to four hours, which most two-day groups plan for deliberately.

No, and this is the most important planning point on the route. The roads to Mullayanagiri, Baba Budangiri and Kemmangundi are steep and single-track with limited passing places, and a 45-seater coach cannot use them safely. We drop groups at the base points and arrange local jeeps for the final climb, or recommend a mini bus or tempo traveller for the whole trip. Any operator who tells you a full coach will reach the summit road is not being straight with you.

A 21-seater mini bus over two days starts from around Rs 22,500 and a 35-seater from around Rs 32,000, with Executive and Volvo coaches quoted higher. The figure covers the round trip plus local running in the hills. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.

The quoted fare includes base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Charged separately are toll and parking, driver bata for travel after 9:45 PM, driver night halt charges, and GST. Interstate tax does not apply as the route stays within Karnataka. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels.

No. Local four-wheel-drive jeeps at Hebbe Falls, Mullayanagiri and the Bhadra safari are operated by local associations and the forest department, with fares set on site and paid directly. Our bus drops and waits at the transfer point. We flag these as separate costs at quotation stage so your budget is realistic rather than a surprise on the day.

A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking and blocks the specific vehicle for your dates. The balance is settled at trip end after the final kilometre and hour calculation. Advance can be paid by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card payment link, and the receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

September to February is the most reliable window — clear views, comfortable temperatures and full waterfalls after the monsoon. June to August brings heavy rain, mist and the most dramatic scenery, but views from Mullayanagiri and Z Point can be entirely clouded out and hill roads occasionally close for landslip. Coffee blossom, when the estates smell extraordinary, is usually in March or April after the first rains.

It is possible at roughly 500 km and 11 hours of driving, and we run it for corporate day outings, but you will see the plantations and perhaps one viewpoint rather than the district. Chikmagalur genuinely rewards an overnight halt, because the best of it — Mullayanagiri at sunrise, Z Point, an unhurried estate walk — happens early in the morning.

Usually yes, provided we know the property in advance. Many Chikmagalur estate stays sit several kilometres up unpaved plantation tracks that a 35-seater cannot negotiate, particularly in the monsoon. Share the property name at enquiry stage and we will check the approach and allocate accordingly, rather than discovering the problem at the gate after dark.

Multi-day Chikmagalur charters require minimum 7-day notice for a full refund of the advance, processed within 5 to 7 working days. Charges then step up through 10 percent, 25 percent, 50 percent and 75 percent as departure approaches, with no-show billed at full fare. If Tejas Travels cancels for operational reasons, or a monsoon landslip closes the hill roads, a full refund is processed within 2 working days or an alternate vehicle is offered.
