Places to Visit in Coorg

Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls

Eight kilometres from Madikeri through coffee and cardamom estates, Abbey Falls drops about seventy feet into a rock pool with a hanging bridge facing it head-on. From September to December the volume is genuinely loud; in peak summer it thins. Swimming is not permitted, and the last approach is walked rather than driven by large vehicles.

Talacauvery

Talacauvery

Talacauvery, at 1,276 metres on Brahmagiri hill, is the origin of the Cauvery, with around 250 steps to a summit viewpoint over successive Western Ghats ranges. Eight kilometres below, Bhagamandala marks the river confluence with its Kerala-style temple complex. The final climb is too narrow for a coach, so bus groups transfer to smaller vehicles at Bhagamandala.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare Elephant Camp

A Forest Department camp on the Cauvery near Kushalnagar. Plan for the morning session, when visitors can watch and, subject to the day's schedule, join in feeding and bathing the elephants. Arrive by 9 am, as the window closes late morning. The bus parks at reception and the group crosses by boat. This is the stop that wins over school and family groups.

Raja's Seat

Raja's Seat

A terraced garden on the western edge of town where the Kodava kings watched the sunset, still the best free viewpoint in the district. The land falls into layered valleys that fill with mist by evening. Go around 5:15 pm and expect company at weekends. Coaches use the designated parking below and the group walks up.

Golden Temple

Golden Temple

The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery in Bylakuppe — popularly known as the Golden Temple — is one of the largest Nyingma teaching centres outside Tibet and a visual masterpiece. Established in 1963 by Tibetan refugees who settled in Bylakuppe, the monastery complex is home to towering golden statues of Lord Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava, and Amitayus, surrounded by intricate Tibetan murals and colourful prayer flags. The entire complex has a deeply meditative and awe-inspiring atmosphere that attracts visitors from across the world regardless of religious background. The monastery town of Bylakuppe is also worth exploring for its Tibetan markets selling handmade jewellery, traditional clothing, and delicious momos. Entry is free. The monastery is located about 35 km from Madikeri and is ideally visited on the way to or from Coorg.

Iruppu Falls

Iruppu Falls

Iruppu Falls, also known as Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, is one of the most sacred and scenic waterfalls in Coorg. Located within the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary near the Kerala border, the falls are fed by the Lakshmana Tirtha River and drop approximately 60 metres into a rocky pool below. The surrounding sanctuary is home to elephants, leopards, gaur, and a variety of bird species, making the trek to the falls an exciting wildlife experience as well. The Rameshwara Temple adjacent to the falls holds immense religious significance and draws large crowds during the Shivaratri festival. A well-marked forest trail leads from the parking area to the falls through dense evergreen forest. The entire experience — from the forest drive to the sight of the cascading water against lush green backdrop — is deeply refreshing and memorable.

Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park, officially known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is one of India's premier tiger reserves and a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Located on the northwestern edge of Coorg, the park spans over 640 square kilometres of dense deciduous and semi-evergreen forests teeming with wildlife. Safari visitors can spot tigers, leopards, wild elephants, Indian gaur, dholes, sambar deer, and an extraordinary variety of birds including the Indian grey hornbill and the crested serpent eagle. Jeep safaris and boat rides along the Kabini River backwaters are the most popular ways to explore the park. The golden light of dawn safaris offers the best wildlife sightings. Nagarhole is best visited between October and May. A trip to Coorg is incomplete without a morning or evening safari in this spectacular national park.

Madikeri Fort

Madikeri Fort

Madikeri Fort, also known as Mercara Fort, stands in the centre of Madikeri town and is one of the most historically significant landmarks of Coorg. Originally built in mud by Mudduraja in the 17th century and later rebuilt in stone by Tipu Sultan, the fort has changed hands multiple times over the centuries before eventually coming under British control. The fort today houses a museum, a church (originally built as a palace by the Haleri kings), a jail, and several government offices. The museum within the fort contains a collection of royal artefacts, arms, and historical photographs that provide deep insight into Kodagu's rich past. The fort's architecture is a fascinating blend of Kodava, Tipu-era Islamic, and British colonial styles. Entry is free, and the fort can be explored comfortably in about an hour.

Chelavara Falls

Chelavara Falls

Chelavara Falls is a hidden gem in Coorg that remains relatively undiscovered compared to the more popular Abbey Falls and Iruppu Falls. Located near Kakkabe village in the southern part of Kodagu, the waterfall drops about 25 metres over a series of rocky ledges surrounded by thick riparian forest. The trek to the falls passes through coffee and pepper plantations, adding a fragrant, sensory layer to the experience. Unlike busier tourist spots, Chelavara offers a quiet, peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for travellers seeking solitude in nature. The water is crystal clear and cool, ideal for a refreshing dip during summer months. The approach road to Chelavara is narrow and best navigated in a smaller vehicle or on foot. This is an ideal destination for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers who enjoy off-the-beaten-path experiences in the hills.

Coffee Plantation Estate Tour

Coffee Plantation Estate Tour

A coffee plantation tour is not just an activity in Coorg — it is an essential cultural experience that defines the region. Kodagu produces about 30% of India's total coffee output, and the district is blanketed with sprawling Arabica and Robusta estates interspersed with silver oak, orange groves, pepper vines, and cardamom shrubs. Many homestays and resorts in Coorg offer guided plantation walks where guests learn about the coffee-growing process — from seed to cup — including planting, harvesting, pulping, drying, and roasting. Walking through the estates in the early morning mist, with the smell of coffee blossoms in the air and bird calls echoing through the canopy, is an unforgettable sensory experience. Several estates also offer freshly brewed Coorg coffee that bears no resemblance to what you get in a city cafe. Do not leave Coorg without at least one plantation visit.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Coorg Route

Four package structures cover almost every group on this route, all including the vehicle, fuel and a professional driver, quoted garage to garage in writing.

Corporate Package

Built for IT and MICE teams from Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata and the ORR corridor. Executive or Volvo coach with pushback seating and premium audio, plus GST invoicing, a proforma invoice for purchase-order approval, GPS visibility for the event manager and a driver briefed on the offsite schedule. Thirty-day credit terms for registered accounts — see our corporate travels bangalore service.

Family Package

For weddings, reunions and large family trips of thirty to fifty. Standard or executive AC bus with an itinerary built around comfort: an unhurried Maddur breakfast, Bylakuppe and Nisargadhama on arrival day, Dubare the next morning. Drivers prioritise stops with short walks and accessible parking, and we confirm narrow resort approaches in advance.

Budget Package

The lowest per-head cost on this route. A 45 or 50-seater standard AC bus at the base per-km rate spreads the fare across the maximum number of passengers, bringing the cost to roughly Rs 600 to Rs 850 per head for a two-day round trip. Popular with college batches, temple groups and school excursions. Non-AC variants are available on request.

Luxury Package

Volvo and BharatBenz multi-axle coaches with recliner seating, blackout curtains, per-seat charging and superior suspension, noticeably better on the Madikeri hairpins. Booked for premium corporate delegations, destination weddings and overnight runs. Confirm November to February dates early — see our volvo luxury bus fleet.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Coorg Cab

Yes. Buses up to 50 seats run the Bangalore to Madikeri route daily on NH275, and our drivers are experienced on the Kushalnagar climb. Within Coorg, a full coach reaches Bylakuppe, Nisargadhama, Dubare, Madikeri town and Harangi Dam. Mandalpatti and Talacauvery need local jeeps or a smaller vehicle for the final stretch.

Approximately 265 km via NH275 through Mysore, Hunsur and Kushalnagar to Madikeri. A full-size bus takes 6 to 7 hours including one breakfast halt, slightly longer than a car because of the ghat section. Leaving by 5:00 am puts you in Madikeri by early afternoon.

From Rs 38 per km garage to garage for a 27 to 35 seater AC bus, with executive, Volvo and BharatBenz tiers higher. A two-day round trip with local sightseeing runs Rs 32,000 for the whole vehicle, roughly Rs 950 per head across forty passengers. Your exact fare is confirmed in writing before any advance.

Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Excluded: toll and parking, inter-state tax, driver bata after 9:45 pm, and GST. The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage, and every exclusion is itemised in the written quote.

Twenty per cent of the total fare, payable by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card, with a receipt within 30 minutes. The balance is settled at trip end. For bookings above Rs 50,000 and Volvo hire on peak dates, a higher advance may be required.

Yes, and it is the standard arrangement. The vehicle and driver stay with your group throughout. Kilometres run within Coorg are added to the total, which is why the fare is garage to garage rather than point to point. Where an attraction is not coach-accessible we plan the transfer in advance.

Book your confirmed group size plus a two to three seat buffer, so forty travellers are best served by a 45-seater. For thirty and below, a 25-seater minibus is usually more economical. Call +91 9980277773 and we will recommend the right vehicle.

Every booking includes a professional, police-verified, PSV-licensed driver, and the driver allowance is part of the fare. A driver bata is charged extra after 9:45 pm. On multi-day trips, night halt charges apply and are stated upfront in the quote.

More than 7 days ahead: no charge, full advance refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Between 4 and 7 days the charge is 10 per cent, 48 hours to 4 days 25 per cent, 24 to 48 hours 50 per cent, and under 24 hours 75 per cent. A no-show after the bus is deployed is charged in full.

No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passengers insurance by the company. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required under Indian motor law, drivers are police verified and PSV licensed, and the fleet is GPS tracked. Groups wanting personal accident cover should arrange it separately.
