Places to Visit in Kollur Mookambika Temple

Mookambika Temple and the Souparnika
The temple stands in the town with the Souparnika running below it and Kodachadri behind. The sanctum holds a swayambhu linga divided by a golden line taken to represent Shiva and Shakti together, with the image of Mookambika behind it - worshipped as Saraswati in the morning hours and as Lakshmi and Durga at others. Pilgrims bathe in the river before darshan. Visit early; the temple keeps a midday break and the morning worship is when it is at its best. Dress conventions apply and the queue moves efficiently outside festival periods.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Arsikere
Coconut Junction of Karnataka
The route leaves Bangalore northwest and branches at Nelamangala, which is the only stretch that depends on timing rather than road - our drivers aim to be past it before 6:30 AM on a nine-hour day. Tumakuru is coconut country and the Siddaganga Math sits on the edge of it. Tiptur, sixty kilometres on, is the copra capital of India with a GI tag and a market that sets national prices, and the plantations run unbroken either side of the road for an hour. Arsikere is a railway junction with a thirteenth-century Hoysala Ishvara temple that almost nobody stops for and which is worth twenty minutes if you have them.

Shivamogga
Gateway to the Malnad
A hundred and forty-five kilometres north-west through Kadur and Birur, junction towns where the Chikmagalur and Shivamogga roads divide, and Tarikere, which is the turn for the Bhadra sanctuary and reservoir. The country thickens as you go and the Ghats appear to the west. Shivamogga sits on the Tunga and is the natural lunch halt - the last place with a full range of services before the hill roads, and the practical base for this whole region. Groups extending the trip toward Jog or Sagara often stay here rather than pushing on. Beyond it the road turns properly into the Malnad.

Hosanagara
Taluk of the Sharavathi
Eighty kilometres west and the driving changes completely - narrow winding road through areca gardens and forest, climbing and dropping continuously, with the pace well below what the distance suggests. This is some of the finest Malnad country in Karnataka and the drive is a large part of the trip. Thirthahalli sits on the Tunga near Kuppalli, where Kuvempu was born and where the house is preserved - the Rashtrakavi whose work is bound up with exactly this landscape. Hosanagara follows, in the Sharavathi country. From here to Kollur the road runs through forest for long stretches and the last of it is genuinely remote.

Kollur
Mookambika Kshetra of the Souparnika
Forty kilometres of forest road with the Ghats closing in, and Kodachadri rising ahead - the peak is visible from some distance out and it explains the geography of the place before you arrive at it. The Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary is around you for most of this stretch. Kollur is a temple town in the literal sense - the shrine, the Souparnika below it, pilgrim accommodation, shops selling offerings, and hills on every side. It is compact and congested near the temple, so drops are at the perimeter during busy periods. Byndoor and the coast are thirty kilometres west. Our driver takes you to the confirmed address and assists with luggage. A 5:30 AM departure puts most travellers in Kollur by around 3:00 PM, in time for the evening worship.

Bus Packages for the Bangalore to Kollur Route
Corporate Package
Built for Bangalore companies running employee pilgrimage trips, family day outings and CSR or community travel, and for groups combining the temple circuit with a coastal offsite at Udupi or Murudeshwar. Includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO-based approval, a named driver for the full multi-day trip, and consolidated monthly billing for registered accounts. The same corporate bus rental bangalore coach stays with the group across the Kollur, Udupi and Murudeshwar legs, with duty slips signed daily and reconciled against the final invoice. Pickup can be staged across two or three points on the way out of the city. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages the arrangement end to end.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
The dominant booking on this corridor. Extended families travelling for a Vidyarambham, a vow or an annual visit, samithi and bhajan groups, and organised pilgrimage parties running the full coastal circuit over four or five days. Designed around temple timings and a driver who understands that a group will be inside for three hours and needs a waiting coach. Luggage capacity decides it on a multi-day trip — a 45 seater swallows what ten cars would struggle with, including the pooja materials, offerings and cooked food that pilgrimage groups actually travel with. Udupi, Murudeshwar, Anegudde and Kamalashile all slot into the circuit without adding a day.
Budget Package
For groups where cost per head decides the booking. Non-AC 27 to 41 seater coaches, point to point or for the duration, clean vehicle, verified driver — the usual choice for samithi groups, community trips and pilgrimage associations travelling in numbers through the year. The bus rate per km in bangalore for the non-AC tier is our lowest, and across a 440 kilometre one-way run with a full group the saving is substantial. One honest note: the coastal leg is humid for most of the year, and on a multi-day circuit in the pre-monsoon months the AC tier is worth the difference. The budget tier is about vehicle specification, never about maintenance or driver vetting — and on a Ghat route, driver vetting is the part that matters most.
Luxury and Volvo Package
Volvo and Benz multi-axle coaches with wider push-back seats, better suspension, stronger air conditioning, sound insulation and premium interiors. Across nine to ten hours each way with a ghat descent in the middle, the difference is functional rather than cosmetic. This is the tier we recommend for any group with a significant number of elders travelling, which describes most pilgrimage bookings on this route. Our volvo bus rental bangalore tier covers volvo luxury bus requirements in 41 to 50 seater configuration. For premium small-group travel on the same circuit, luxury urbania rental bangalore in 13 to 17 seater configuration is the alternative — and it also opens up the shorter ghat routes that a coach cannot take.
Our Bus Fleet in Bangalore
Our fleet covers 27, 35, 41, 45 and 50 seater configurations in AC and non-AC, including Volvo and Benz coaches. We run a full range of group vehicles from the same Bangalore base, so if your headcount changes after booking we can usually move you up or down a category without restarting the process.
• Bus — 27 to 50 seater, including Volvo and Benz coaches, the core vehicle for this route
• Mini bus — 12 to 24 seater, for mid-sized groups, and the better choice if the shorter ghat routes are wanted
• Tempo traveller — 8 to 18 seater, for smaller parties
• Force Urbania — 13 to 17 seater luxury van
• Cars — 4 to 7 seater, from Etios, Dzire, Innova, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Fortuner through Commuter, Corolla Altis and Camry, up to Audi A6, Audi Q7, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Mercedes-Benz S Class and Rolls-Royce Ghost
Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On a route of this length that shapes the itinerary directly: rather than an overnight drive through the Ghats, we plan a daylight run with a hotel halt at Hassan, Mangalore or Udupi. It is more comfortable, and on the Shiradi descent it is considerably safer.
Billing Details — What Is Included and What Is Extra
We quote in writing before you book and the quote itemises everything, so there are no surprises at trip end. A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking.
Included in the Quoted Fare
• Base fare and fuel charges
• Driver allowance
Not Included — Billed Separately at Actuals
• Toll charges and parking fees
• Interstate tax, where an itinerary crosses into another state
• Additional driver bata after 9:45 PM
• GST as applicable
• Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
The garage-to-garage basis is standard across the organised group transport industry in Bangalore. The meter starts when the vehicle leaves our garage for your pickup point and ends when it returns. We factor this into the written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay. On the Kollur route no interstate tax applies, since the whole circuit stays within Karnataka — a genuine saving against a Guruvayur or Tirupati trip of comparable length. The items to watch instead are driver night halt charges, which apply for each night the coach stays out on a multi-day circuit, and total kilometres, since a Kollur, Udupi and Murudeshwar itinerary generates a good deal of daily running on top of the point-to-point distance. Share the day-wise plan at enquiry and we quote the whole trip as one figure.
Kodachadri jeep charges, temple entry and seva fees, and accommodation are paid directly by the group and are not part of the vehicle quote.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if required. Vehicle insurance and full statutory driver and vehicle compliance are maintained across the fleet.

What Our Customers Say About Our Bus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kollur Mookambika Temple Bus
The bangalore to kollur distance by the route a coach should take is approximately 440 kilometres, running on NH75 through Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna, Hassan and Sakleshpur, down the Shiradi Ghat to Mangalore, then north on NH66 through Udupi and Kundapura before turning inland for the last thirty-five kilometres. That is 9 to 10 hours 30 minutes with two halts. Shorter roads exist through Shivamogga and Hosanagara or through Sringeri and Agumbe, around 410 kilometres, but they run on narrow ghat roads that are not our default for a 45 seater coach.
We recommend breaking it. Hassan at 180 kilometres, Mangalore at 315 or Udupi at 375 all make sensible overnight halts, and stopping converts a punishing single-day drive into a comfortable two-day one. It also lets the group add Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu, or the Udupi Krishna Matha, without cutting into temple time at Kollur. Most of our Kollur bookings run as four to five day itineraries for exactly this reason. A straight-through run is possible with a 4:30 AM departure but means the group arrives tired on a day they had hoped to use.
Bus fares around Rs 34,140. The final figure depends on vehicle class, number of days and total kilometres run. Since billing is garage to garage on actual kilometres and hours, we issue a written itemised quote within 2 hours rather than a verbal estimate.
No. Kollur is in Udupi district in Karnataka and the whole circuit — Udupi, Murudeshwar, Kundapura, Kamalashile — stays within the state, so no interstate permit or interstate tax applies. That is a real saving against a Guruvayur, Tirupati or Sabarimala trip of comparable length. Only a continuation into Goa or Kerala would need a permit, which we arrange and itemise separately.
No, and this catches most first-time groups out. Private vehicles including coaches, mini buses and cars are not permitted to the Kodachadri summit. Access is by Forest Department permit in local four-wheel-drive jeeps from Kollur or Nagodi, or on foot by the trekking route. Your coach parks at Kollur and the group transfers to jeeps, which should be arranged a day ahead in season and are paid for directly. Each jeep takes a limited number of passengers, so a group of forty needs several and some coordination.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms your booking and guarantees the specific bus on your travel dates. The advance must be paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card. A receipt is issued within 30 minutes and the balance is settled at trip end after deducting the advance. Kollur fills completely during Navaratri and the Vidyarambham season, so bookings for those dates should be confirmed several weeks ahead and may carry a higher advance.
October to February. The weather is at its most comfortable, the Ghats are clear, and the coastal leg is pleasant rather than humid. Navaratri, usually falling in September or October, is the temple’s peak festival and an extraordinary time to visit — but the town is completely full and everything needs booking weeks ahead. The monsoon between June and September brings the Ghats and the Souparnika alive, and Kollur in the rain is beautiful, but the Shiradi Ghat can be affected by landslides and occasional closures, so we plan around it where the group has a choice of dates.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated configuration with push-back seats. On this route we plan a daylight run with a hotel halt at Hassan, Mangalore or Udupi rather than driving overnight — the Shiradi Ghat descent in particular is not a stretch we take in darkness with a full coach. For maximum comfort on the drive, the Volvo and Benz tier with wider seats and better suspension is what we recommend, especially for groups with elders.
Yes, and this is how most groups book it. The same coach and driver stay with you throughout, covering Kollur, Kamalashile, Maravanthe, Kundapura, Anegudde, Udupi and Murudeshwar, plus the transfer point for Kodachadri. Multi-day bookings are billed on total kilometres and hours with a per-day minimum plus driver allowance and night halt charges. Coaches park without difficulty at all the main temples on this circuit. Share your day-wise plan at enquiry and we quote the whole trip as one number rather than charging per outing.
Cancelling more than 7 days before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 4 and 7 days the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 48 hours and 4 days it is 25 percent, and between 24 and 48 hours it is 50 percent. Multi-day Kollur circuits and Navaratri dates need a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund, and if the Ghat is closed by the authorities with no safe alternative we treat it as force majeure with a full refund or a free date change. On insurance: Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover, and passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they wish to be covered. All vehicles carry valid insurance and full statutory compliance, and every driver is verified with a commercial licence and ghat route experience, but personal passenger cover is not part of the booking. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com — our bangalore bus booking and WhatsApp enquiry lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
