Places to Visit in Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal Lake
Kodaikanal Lake is the centrepiece of the hill station and the attraction that almost every visitor sees first. Created artificially in 1863 under British administration, the lake spans around 60 acres in a distinctive star shape and sits at an elevation of about 2,285 metres, surrounded on all sides by forest and the pleasant streets of the town. Boating is the primary activity, with pedal boats, row boats and motor boats available for hire, and the shoreline path of around five kilometres is one of the most popular walks in the region, combining lake views with glimpses into the pine forest on the hillsides above. Cycling around the lake on rented bicycles is another favourite, particularly in the early morning when the mist is still on the water and the traffic is light. The proximity of Kodaikanal Lake to Bryant Park, the market street, and the main accommodation cluster makes it the natural starting point for a day of sightseeing in the town, and it tends to look its best in the late afternoon light when the western sky reflects across the water.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Hosur
Tamil Nadu border crossing
The first stage of the journey covers around 45 kilometres from Bangalore city through the Electronic City corridor and out toward Hosur on the Tamil Nadu border. This is the exit corridor from Bangalore for all routes heading south and southeast into Tamil Nadu, so traffic here during weekday peak hours and weekend mornings can be heavy, particularly through the Electronic City flyover and the Silk Board junction for travellers starting from the southern and eastern parts of the city. The recommendation for a Bangalore to Kodaikanal cab departure is to leave between four and five in the morning to clear this section cleanly before the traffic builds, or alternatively after nine-thirty when the morning peak has eased. Hosur, a rapidly growing industrial town, marks the Tamil Nadu state border and is a natural first stop for fuel and an early breakfast, with a good selection of highway restaurants serving both South Indian and North Indian food. The road condition on this section is generally good and the drive into Hosur is uneventful once the Bangalore city congestion is cleared.

Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri
mango orchards and rocky hills
From Hosur, NH 44 continues southwest through Krishnagiri and then Dharmapuri, covering around 100 additional kilometres and bringing the total from Bangalore to roughly 145 kilometres. This is where the landscape of the journey takes on a distinctly different character from the urban and peri-urban environment around Bangalore: the countryside opens into rolling semi-arid terrain with scrub vegetation, rocky outcrops and, in season, the famous Krishnagiri mango orchards that line the roadsides and supply much of Tamil Nadu's mango production. Krishnagiri town itself is a major junction and commercial hub, well-stocked with fuel stations, ATMs and a variety of restaurants, making it the most practical mid-morning stop for a longer break if the journey started at dawn. The Krishnagiri Reservoir is visible from certain stretches of the highway approaching the town and offers a pleasant view of blue water against the rocky hills. Dharmapuri, continuing south, is another significant town with its own fort and temple complex that history-minded travellers may want to note. This stretch is particularly comfortable to drive and the NH 44 is in good condition for most of the distance.

Salem
Roughly the halfway point of the journey
From Dharmapuri to Salem the route continues on NH 44 for approximately 65 kilometres, bringing the total distance from Bangalore to around 210 kilometres and marking roughly the halfway point of the full journey to Kodaikanal. Salem is one of Tamil Nadu's largest cities and an important industrial and textile hub, and the approach to and through the city can involve some traffic congestion, particularly around the commercial centre and the Yercaud Ghat road junction. For the purposes of the Kodaikanal trip, Salem is primarily a break stop: fuel, a proper lunch, or a coffee at one of the highway restaurants that cluster around the NH 44 corridor through the city. The road through Salem then continues on the Salem-Coimbatore national highway bypass and connects back to the main south-going highway toward Dindigul, which is more direct than passing through the city centre on the older road. For travellers leaving Bangalore very early, Salem is typically the right time for a proper meal break, arriving around half past eight to nine in the morning.

Dindigul
Fertile farmland of the Kongu Nadu region
The stretch from Salem to Dindigul covers around 130 kilometres and is one of the longer uninterrupted highway drives on the journey, passing through the agricultural heart of central Tamil Nadu with irrigated fields, small towns and the characteristic landscape of the Kongu Nadu region. The road passes near Namakkal, known for its hilltop fort and Anjaneya Temple carved into a cave, and through or around Karur, an important weaving and textile town, before reaching Dindigul. Dindigul is a significant city and junction town at the foot of the Palani Hills, known for its distinctive rock fort and for being the last major urban stop before the ghat road to Kodaikanal begins. This is where a Bangalore to Kodaikanal taxi driver typically plans a second break, since the ghat road ahead requires full concentration and it is better to approach it rested and with a full fuel tank. Dindigul's markets and restaurants on the main road offer the regional food of the area, including the famous Dindigul biryani that many travellers specifically stop for.
Kodaikanal
Your Hill Station Destination
From Dindigul, the route continues to Batlagundu and then turns onto the Kodai Ghat Road, which is the final 40-kilometre climb from the plains to the hilltop at Kodaikanal. This is without question the most memorable section of the entire journey: the road climbs sharply through a series of hairpin bends, cutting through eucalyptus plantations, rocky outcrops, shola grasslands and forest as the altitude rises and the temperature drops noticeably with each hundred metres gained. Silver Cascade Falls appears on the left side of the road at around eight kilometres below the town, marking the moment where the full character of the hill destination becomes apparent, and many travellers stop here for photographs and to feel the mist from the waterfall. The ghat road requires a careful, experienced driver at the wheel, with particular attention needed at the sharper bends during monsoon season when wet roads and limited visibility can make the climb more demanding. The arrival into Kodaikanal town after this climb, through pine-scented air and with the immediate drop in temperature from the plains heat, is a genuinely rewarding moment that makes the full journey feel worthwhile.

Bangalore to Kodaikanal Bus Packages
Every quote is built around the group, the season and the itinerary rather than a fixed template. These four structures cover most of our bangalore to kodaikanal bus package bookings.
Corporate and Offsite Package
Kodaikanal is a long-standing favourite for Bangalore corporate offsites because the distance forces the team to actually switch off. Our corporate configuration includes an Executive or Volvo coach with reclining seats and charging points, a public address microphone for the trip coordinator, and multi-point pickup across Electronic City, Whitefield, Manyata, Bellandur and the ORR corridor. Interstate permit and e-pass are handled by us and itemised on the invoice. GST invoicing, Proforma Invoice for purchase-order approval and consolidated monthly billing are standard on every corporate bus rental bangalore booking.
Family and Group Package
For extended families, apartment association trips and neighbourhood groups. A 21 or 27-seater AC mini coach handles most family bookings and has a real advantage on this route: it negotiates the ghat hairpins faster and parks more easily in town. Luggage space is planned for three to four days, and where elderly passengers are travelling we allocate vehicles with lower step-in height and build in longer, more frequent halts on the long NH44 stretch.
Budget and Student Package
Non-AC and Standard AC buses in 32, 40 and 45-seater configurations for schools, colleges, NGOs and youth groups where cost per head decides the booking. Kodaikanal is a fixture on the Bangalore school and college excursion calendar, and this is our highest-volume category for school excursion bus rental bangalore and college trip bus rental bangalore. Vehicles carry valid fitness, interstate permit and insurance documents, GPS tracking is available for the institution to monitor, and drivers on student trips are chosen on experience and conduct record. For a route with a two-hour ghat climb, driver selection matters more here than on any other trip we run.
Luxury Package
Volvo B9R and BharatBenz coaches with pushback seats, extra legroom, curtains and dedicated luggage bays, for premium leisure groups and destination events at Kodaikanal resorts. Sleeper configurations are available for overnight departures, which lets a group leave Bangalore at 9 pm, sleep through the highway section and start the ghat climb in early morning light — comfortably the best way to experience this particular road.
Our Services
Tejas Tours and Travels operates a full ground-transport fleet across Bangalore and Mysore, from a single sedan to a fifty-seater coach. On an interstate hill route like Kodaikanal, being able to combine vehicle classes under one booking is often what makes an itinerary work.
Cabs and Premium Cars
Sedans, SUVs and premium cars for point-to-point travel, day rentals and multi-day outstation trips. Our car rental bangalore fleet runs from an Etios to a Mercedes, and the 6-seater Toyota Innova Hycross is the most requested vehicle for small family groups on long ghat routes.
Tempo Traveller and Force Urbania
For groups of nine to seventeen, a luxury tempo traveller bangalore is often the smartest choice on this route, and it is the vehicle we recommend for the Berijam Lake day where coaches cannot go. For premium small-group travel, the force urbania rent bangalore option offers a monocoque body, better ride quality on hairpin sections and airline-style seating.
Bus, Minibus and Volvo Coach
The core of our group fleet. Choose from Standard, Executive and Luxury tiers for bus rental in bangalore, a compact mini bus rental in bangalore for 21 to 27 passengers, or a volvo bus rental bangalore coach for premium long-distance running.
Corporate, Employee and School Transport
Contracted daily transport is a separate vertical for us. We handle corporate travels bangalore accounts with monthly invoicing, employee transportation services bangalore covering night shift cab service and escort compliance, and school transportation services with GPS tracking and verified drivers.
Airport, Outstation and Wedding
Round-the-clock airport transfer bangalore with flight tracking for Kempegowda International, full outstation vehicle booking across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, and decorated wedding car rental bangalore with matching guest buses for marriage logistics. All services are available from both our Bangalore and Mysore operations, and a Kodaikanal trip can be combined with a Madurai or Rameswaram leg on one itinerary.
Billing Details for Bangalore to Kodaikanal Bus Hire
We publish our billing structure openly because most disputes in this industry come from things that were never written down. Here is exactly how a bus rental bangalore to kodaikanal invoice is built.
Advance Payment
• 20 percent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking and block the specific vehicle for your date.
• The remaining 80 percent is settled at the end of the trip, after the final kilometre and hour reading is taken.
Inclusions
• Base fare and fuel charges.
• Driver allowance.
Exclusions
• Toll charges and parking fees.
• Interstate tax and permit charges. On this route the Tamil Nadu permit and border tax always apply, so this is never a nil line item.
• Driver bata beyond 9:45 pm, charged extra for late-night running.
• GST, applied as per prevailing rates.
• The final rental is calculated on total kilometres and total hours, measured from our garage to garage — not from your pickup point to your drop point.
Passenger Insurance
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover as part of the rental. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance if they require it, particularly institutional groups and organisations with their own coverage policies for student or employee travel.
Garage-to-garage billing explained: the meter starts when the bus leaves our depot and stops when it returns. On a Kodaikanal trip this typically adds 20 to 40 kilometres to the trip total depending on your pickup area in Bangalore. We state this upfront in the written quote so there is no surprise at settlement.

Step 1: Contact Tejas Travels
• Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

• Share your destination or full day-wise itinerary, total group size, and preferred bus tier: Standard, Executive, Luxury, Volvo or BharatBenz.
• For Kodaikanal, share passenger names and count as well. These are needed for the Tamil Nadu e-pass application, which we file on your behalf along with the interstate permit.
• Tell us if Berijam Lake, Poombarai or Hogenakkal are on your list, so the right vehicle mix and permits can be planned.
• For Goa, Shirdi and other multi-day bus hire from Bangalore, provide the complete itinerary so we can allocate a driver experienced on that specific overnight route.
• For monthly employee commute contract hire, share the route and schedule details.
Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote
• Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email.
• The quote itemizes every charge: bus hire rate in Rs per km or as a flat local package, driver allowance of Rs 700 to 1,250 per day depending on the vehicle, applicable toll estimates, interstate permit costs — Tamil Nadu for Kodaikanal and Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad and Munnar, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati — and driver night halt charges for multi-day hire.
• No verbal-only pricing. Everything is in writing before you commit.
• For MICE and corporate clients, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage for purchase-order approval.

Step 3: Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance
• Review the written quote and confirm via WhatsApp or phone.
• A 20 percent advance payment confirms the booking and guarantees the specific bus on your date.
• For Kodaikanal during the April to June summer season, and for New Year, Diwali, Dasara and long-weekend peaks — book several weeks ahead. This is the first route to sell out and e-pass slots also tighten during declared peak periods.
• For large corporate bookings above Rs 50,000, a higher advance may be required.
• Payment options: UPI through Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm; NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer; or credit and debit card via payment link.
• Advance receipt issued within 30 minutes.
• Confirmation includes driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup confirmation, permit and e-pass status, and the full billing breakdown — all in writing.

• The driver calls you 30 minutes before arrival.
• During the trip, the driver handles all national highway exits, toll payments, the Attibele border check post and rest stop coordination.
• At trip end, the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

What Our Customers Say About Our Bus Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kodaikannal Bus
The bangalore to kodaikanal distance is approximately 465 km via NH44 through Salem and Dindigul. A car can do it in eight to nine hours; a loaded bus realistically takes 9 to 10 hours, of which the last two are the fifty-six kilometre ghat climb from Batlagundu. That final stretch cannot be rushed.
Chartered fares start from around Rs 36420. The Tamil Nadu interstate permit and border tax are billed separately and always apply on this route. Because billing is garage to garage on total kilometres and hours, the final figure depends on your itinerary and local running in Kodaikanal. Send us your dates, group size and stops for an itemised written quote within 2 hours.
Vehicles entering the Kodaikanal region require a Tamil Nadu e-pass, applied for through epass.tnega.org. The system was introduced following a Madras High Court order to manage tourist vehicle numbers on the ghat roads. Kodaikanal is administered under Dindigul district and needs its own application — an Ooty pass does not cover it. Enforcement is strictest during the declared peak season and current guidance applies it more broadly, so confirm the position for your dates. We apply on your behalf and share the QR code before departure.
Yes. The Batlagundu ghat road is the standard route for tourist coaches and large buses use it daily. The practical constraints are speed and parking rather than access — a full-size coach takes longer on the hairpins, and parking around Kodaikanal Lake and Coaker's Walk is tight in season, so we plan drop-and-collect points. The one place a coach genuinely cannot go is the Berijam Lake forest road, which needs a smaller vehicle.
October to March gives the clearest weather and the best viewpoint visibility. April to June is peak season — pleasant temperatures but heavy crowds, tight accommodation and strict e-pass enforcement. July to September brings mist and full waterfalls, with a real risk of landslide closures on the ghat. We build extra buffer into monsoon bookings.
A 20 percent advance on the total fare confirms the booking and blocks your specific vehicle. The balance is settled at the end of the trip once the final kilometre and hour reading is taken. For large corporate bookings above Rs 50,000, or for summer-season and long-weekend dates, a higher advance may be requested.
Included: base fare, fuel charges and driver allowance. Excluded: toll and parking charges, interstate tax and permit, driver bata after 9:45 pm, and GST. On the Kodaikanal route the Tamil Nadu permit always applies, so it is never a nil line. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, and everything is itemised in the written quote before you pay anything.
Because the vehicle is dedicated to your trip from the moment it leaves our depot until it returns. This is standard convention for chartered bus hire. On a Kodaikanal trip it typically adds 20 to 40 km depending on your pickup area, and the figure appears in your written quote so it is never a surprise.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance as part of the rental. Passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance. Our vehicles carry valid statutory vehicle insurance, fitness certificates and interstate permits, and drivers hold commercial licences, but personal passenger cover is not included and we state this clearly at booking.
Cancellations more than 7 days before departure carry no charge and the advance is refunded in full within 5 to 7 working days. Charges then step up from 10 percent to 75 percent as the departure date approaches, with the full schedule listed above. Note that an interstate permit already purchased is non-refundable and is deducted separately. To cancel, WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference — written confirmation within 2 hours, refund to your original payment method.
