NH 766 through the reserve is closed to all traffic between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM to protect nocturnal wildlife crossings, and it is enforced absolutely. In practice this means a Bangalore group cannot plan a late-night arrival at Bandipur, and cannot leave for Wayanad or Ooty through the reserve before six in the morning. We plan every itinerary on this route around those hours and will not quote a schedule that depends on crossing during them.

No, and we would rather say so than let you build a trip around it. Elephant, gaur, spotted deer, sambar, langur and peacock are near certain on most drives. Tiger and leopard are genuinely a matter of luck — Bandipur has a healthy population but the forest is 912 square kilometres of dense cover. Groups that go expecting a rewarding forest morning come back happy; groups that go expecting a guaranteed tiger often do not.
October to May, with the dry months of March to May giving the best sightings as animals concentrate around water, though the heat is considerable by then. October to February is the most comfortable overall. The monsoon, June to September, is green and beautiful but visibility through the undergrowth is poor and safari experiences are less rewarding. Note the reserve can also close at short notice for fire risk or management reasons.
Yes, and it is the most requested extension. Both require an interstate permit — Tamil Nadu for Mudumalai and Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad — which we arrange. One caution on Ooty: the thirty-six hairpin Masinagudi ghat is closed to heavy vehicles, so a full coach must take the longer Gudalur route while a mini bus or tempo traveller has the option of either. Remember also that departures through the reserve cannot begin before 6:00 AM.
Multi-day Bandipur charters require minimum 7-day notice for a full refund of the advance, processed within 5 to 7 working days. Charges then step up through 10 percent, 25 percent, 50 percent and 75 percent as departure approaches. School bookings may be rescheduled once at no penalty with 72-hour notice. If the forest department closes the reserve at short notice, or Tejas Travels cancels for operational reasons, a full refund is processed within 2 working days or the booking is rescheduled at no penalty.
