Soochipara Falls
About 25 kilometres from Vythiri near Meppadi, soochipara falls tumbles about 200 metres in three tiers through evergreen forest into a rock pool. Meenmutty Falls
Off the Ooty road about 30 kilometres from Vythiri, meenmutty falls drops in three tiers through dense forest. The trail passes through the jungle and is guided by forest staff. Access depends on water levels and is often restricted in the heavy monsoon.
Chethalayam Falls
Near Sulthan Bathery, Chethalayam is reached by a forest walk of a few kilometres, which makes it popular with trekkers and birdwatchers. It is at its best just after the monsoon.
Pookode Lake
Just 3 kilometres from Vythiri, pookode lake is a natural freshwater lake ringed by evergreen forest, with pedal boating, a walking path around the shore and a small aquarium. It is the easiest family outing in the area.
Lakkidi Viewpoint and the Chain Tree
At the crest of the Thamarassery ghat, Lakkidi is the "Gateway of Wayanad", with sweeping views down the hairpin bends to the plains. Nearby stands the Chain Tree, a ficus bound with chains, linked to a local legend of a tribal guide who showed the British the way up the ghat.
Chembra Peak
The highest point in Wayanad, Chembra is known for a heart-shaped lake on the way up. Treks are managed by the forest department with limited daily permits, so plan an early start from Vythiri.
Edakkal Caves
Near Ambalavayal, edakkal caves hold ancient rock engravings dating back thousands of years, reached by a steep climb up Ambukuthi hill. It is one of the most significant prehistoric sites in South India.

The expressway bypasses both towns, but the old highway exits are easy for a food stop.
Island Fortress of Tipu Sultan
Srirangapatna is the "Island Fortress of Tipu Sultan", set on an island in the Cauvery. Tipu's summer palace, the Ranganathaswamy Temple and the Gumbaz mausoleum make it worth an hour on the return trip. On the way out, most travellers simply enjoy the river crossing.
City of Palaces
Mysuru is the "City of Palaces" and the "Cultural Capital of Karnataka", home of the Mysore Palace and the Dasara festival. Your driver follows the ring road towards Nanjangud to avoid city traffic. Tipu's Battery Town
