Kodasalli Backwaters
Just below Sathodi, the stream flows into the backwaters of the Kodasalli dam on the Kali river. The still, forest-fringed water makes a striking contrast with the noise of the falls a few hundred metres away. Early morning mist over the reservoir is a favourite with photographers, and the quiet banks are a pleasant place for a packed breakfast.
Magod Falls
Around 19 kilometres from Yellapur toward Ankola, the Bedthi river plunges roughly 650 feet into a deep rocky gorge in two distinct leaps. There is no path to the bottom; instead, a viewpoint on the rim looks straight across the valley. After the monsoon, when the gorge is full of spray and green, it is one of the most dramatic sights in the region. Most travellers combine it with Sathodi as a sathodi magod falls trip.
Jenu Kallu Gudda
Close to Magod, this rocky hilltop viewpoint takes its name from the wild honeycombs that once hung from its cliffs. The view stretches across unbroken forest and the Bedthi valley toward the Arabian Sea side of the Ghats, and it is the best sunset point near Yellapur. Time your Magod visit so you arrive here around an hour before sundown.
Kavadikere Lake
On the road from Yellapur toward Magod, Kavadikere is a quiet lake set in the middle of the forest with a small temple on its bank. It is rarely crowded and makes a peaceful stop for tea and birdwatching, with kingfishers and herons common along the shore.
Shirle Falls
A lesser-known cascade near Yellapur reached by a short forest trek. Shirle is at its best during and just after the monsoon, when it drops in several tiers through thick jungle. It suits travellers who want a little more adventure than the main viewpoints offer; ask your driver to confirm the path condition locally before setting out.
Dandeli and the Kali River
Roughly 80 kilometres from Sathodi, Dandeli is Karnataka's best-known adventure base, with white-water rafting, kayaking and coracle rides on the Kali river and jungle stays inside the Kali Tiger Reserve. Syntheri Rocks

Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple and Caves
Around 88 kilometres from Sathodi, deep in the Kali Tiger Reserve, Ulavi is an important pilgrimage centre linked to the twelfth-century saint Channabasavanna. The forest caves nearby, where Veerashaiva saints are said to have taken refuge, add a historical dimension to a nature-heavy itinerary.

A long, fast stretch past Sira and Hiriyur, with the landscape turning drier and rockier. Chitradurga is famous for its Kallina Kote, the stone fortress built over centuries by the Nayakas, with seven concentric rings of walls climbing a cluster of granite hills. The fort is tied to the legend of Onake Obavva, who defended it with a pestle. Chitradurga is the natural breakfast halt, with good highway restaurants serving hot idli, vada and khara bath. If time allows on the return trip, an hour inside the fort is well spent. Elapsed time: about 3 hours.
Manchester of Karnataka and Home of Benne Dosa
Davanagere earned the name Manchester of Karnataka from its cotton mills and textile trade, and today it is best known across the state for the benne dosa, a crisp dosa cooked in generous amounts of butter. Several well-known dosa houses sit a short detour from the highway, and many travellers plan a second, late breakfast here purely for the food. The Bathi Gudda hillock and the Kunduvada lake add a little green to an otherwise flat stretch. Elapsed time: about 4 hours.
Commercial Capital of North Karnataka
Hubballi, twinned with Dharwad, is the largest city on the route and the trading heart of North Karnataka, home to the South Western Railway headquarters and a busy airport. The Unkal Lake, where the Bedthi river that forms Magod Falls begins its journey, lies on the city edge. The Curtain Waterfall of Uttara Kannada
On the edge of Yellapur, heading back toward Hubballi, a left turn leads into the forest toward Sathodi. The road narrows and the final few kilometres are rough, especially after rain, which is why we recommend reaching the falls on the morning after you arrive rather than rushing at dusk. You pass the Kodasalli backwaters just before the parking area, then walk a short forest path down to the pool. Allow at least two hours at the falls. A small forest entry fee and parking charge are usually collected at the site.

Not realistically. With nearly 1,000 kilometres of round-trip driving, a same-day return would mean more than eighteen hours on the road. We recommend at least three days and two nights, with an overnight halt at Yellapur so you reach the falls fresh in the morning.
September to January is ideal, when the falls are full after the monsoon and the forest road has dried. The falls flow for most of the year, but during heavy monsoon rain the approach road can get muddy and access may be restricted by forest officials for safety. Summer visits are possible, with lower water.
The highway is suitable for any car. For the final forest stretch, especially during or soon after the monsoon, we recommend an Innova, Innova Crysta or Fortuner for their higher ground clearance. Sedans work well in the dry season.
The shallow edges of the pool are popular for a dip, but rocks are slippery and the current near the falls can be strong, particularly in the monsoon. Stay in shallow water, keep children close and follow forest department instructions at the site.
