Mudumalai Safari
Private vehicles cannot enter the core forest, so the mudumalai safari is run by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department in its own vehicles from the Theppakadu reception centre, in morning and afternoon slots. Sightings commonly include elephants, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, wild boar and langurs, with tigers, leopards and wild dogs seen by the lucky. Timings and tickets change by season, so we recommend checking the official forest department information before you travel.
Moyar River and Moyar Gorge
The Moyar River forms the boundary between Mudumalai and Bandipur before plunging into a deep gorge east of Masinagudi, sometimes called the Moyar Canyon. The viewpoint over the gorge and the falls is dramatic after the monsoon, and the dry scrub forest around it is excellent for birds and for sightings of blackbuck and elephants.
Masinagudi
Seven kilometres from Theppakadu, Masinagudi is the village most visitors use as a base, surrounded by jungle resorts, tented camps and homestays at the edge of the forest.
