Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple
The heart of Melukote and one of the most important Sri Vaishnava shrines in South India. The cheluvanarayana swamy temple melukote was restored and reconsecrated by Ramanujacharya, who spent about twelve years here, and the Wodeyars of Mysore later endowed it with extraordinary jewellery. The deity is also known as Selva Pillai. The long pillared corridors and quiet courtyards are at their most atmospheric during the early morning puja.

Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Bangalore–Mysore Expressway
Getting out of the city early is the most important part of any melukote one day trip from bangalore. Your cab heads out along Mysore Road through Kengeri and joins the access-controlled Bangalore–Mysore Expressway, and from there the drive becomes smooth and fast. Bidadi, the first town, is Thatte Idli Town. The idli served here is steamed flat on plates rather than in moulds, giving it a soft, spongy texture that pairs perfectly with a dollop of white butter, coconut chutney and a small cup of filter coffee. Several family-run eateries open before sunrise precisely for travellers heading towards Mysore and Mandya. If your group left home without breakfast, this is a good first halt, because Melukote itself has only simple temple-town eateries and the choice thins out after Mandya. Bidadi is also growing into an industrial township, and you will see large factory campuses alongside the older farming villages. If you are leaving from Whitefield, Hebbal or the northern suburbs, your driver may use the NICE Road link to reach the expressway without entering the city centre. Elapsed time: about 45 minutes.

Silk City of Karnataka
Ramanagara, the Silk City of Karnataka, is where Karnataka's silk story begins. The town hosts one of the biggest silk cocoon markets in Asia, and in the early morning farmers from across the district bring in sacks of white and yellow cocoons to be auctioned to reelers. If anyone in your group is curious about how silk is made, a short visit to the market is a fascinating detour before the trading winds down in the late morning. The landscape also changes here, with dramatic granite boulder hills rising on both sides of the road. The most famous of these, Ramadevara Betta, was the setting for the classic Hindi film Sholay, and the hill is now a protected sanctuary for the long-billed vulture, one of India's most endangered birds. Rock climbers and trekkers from Bangalore use the surrounding hills on weekends. Your driver can take the service road into town for a quick look, or simply continue on the expressway and let the boulder country roll past the window. Elapsed time: about one hour.

Toy Town of Karnataka
Channapatna is the Toy Town of Karnataka and the most colourful stop on the drive. For more than two centuries, artisans here have turned soft ivory-wood on lathes and coated it in lacquer coloured with natural dyes, producing smooth, glossy toys that are safe for small children to chew and handle. The craft is protected by a Geographical Indication tag, and while many modern designs now include wooden puzzles, jewellery, kitchen sets and home décor, the traditional spinning tops, rocking horses and stacking dolls remain the favourites. Buying directly from the cluster of workshops and showrooms on the old highway supports the artisan families and costs far less than the same pieces in Bangalore stores. Some workshops welcome visitors to watch a toy being shaped and polished in a matter of minutes, which children in particular love. Channapatna is also a good point to pause for a stretch and a tender coconut if the sun is already strong. Ten to twenty minutes is enough, unless someone in the group falls in love with the shelves. Elapsed time: about one hour fifteen minutes.

Home of the Maddur Vada
Maddur is the Home of the Maddur Vada. Unlike the round, soft medu vada most people know, this is a flat, crunchy fritter of rice flour, semolina and maida mixed with fried onions, green chilli and curry leaves, and it is best eaten hot with coconut chutney. Local tradition credits its invention to a refreshment stall at the Maddur railway station, where it was created to feed passengers quickly during short halts, and it has since spread to highway restaurants and bakeries all over Karnataka. Many of the big highway restaurants near Maddur serve it fresh through the morning, and they are well set up for families with clean restrooms and quick service, which makes Maddur the most popular breakfast stop on this route. Just beyond the town, the road crosses the Shimsha river, a tributary of the Kaveri that feeds the fields around Mandya. From here onward the landscape turns noticeably greener, with paddy and sugarcane stretching away on both sides of the highway. Elapsed time: about one hour thirty-five minutes.

Sugar City of Karnataka
Mandya is the Sugar City of Karnataka and the district headquarters under which Melukote falls. The rich soil here is irrigated by canals from the Krishna Raja Sagar dam, and the district produces a large share of the state's sugarcane, paddy and jaggery. Between winter and early summer the roads are busy with tractors piled high with cane on their way to the sugar mills, and roadside stalls press fresh sugarcane juice with ginger and lime. Mandya is also known for its village jaggery units, where the cane juice is boiled in huge open pans and poured into moulds; if you ask your driver, he can often point out one near the road where visitors are welcome to watch. This is the turning point of the trip. Rather than continuing towards Srirangapatna and Mysore, your driver exits the expressway just past Mandya and turns right onto the district road towards Melukote. It is also the last large town for fuel, ATMs and a wide choice of restaurants. Elapsed time: about two hours.

Jakkanahalli junction is the Foothill Gateway to the Yadugiri Hills
The final stretch leaves the highway behind and runs for roughly 35 to 40 kilometres through quiet farming villages. Coconut groves, paddy fields, village tanks and small temples line the road, and it feels a world away from the expressway traffic. The road is narrower, so your driver will keep a steady pace and watch for livestock and tractors, particularly around Beechanahalli and the smaller settlements. Jakkanahalli junction is the Foothill Gateway to the Yadugiri Hills. From here the road begins its short, winding climb of about seven kilometres towards Melukote, and the first views of the Yoga Narasimha temple on the summit appear above the scrub. The dry, rocky slopes on either side form part of the Melukote wildlife sanctuary, so keep an eye out for peafowl, partridges and, if you are very lucky, a fox or jackal slipping between the boulders. Groups that took the alternate route via Nagamangala on the Hassan highway join the Melukote road from the north instead, and the approach through the hills is just as scenic. Elapsed time: about two hours forty-five minutes.

Thirunarayanapura
Melukote, also known as Thirunarayanapura, is the Temple Town of the Yadugiri Hills. As the road climbs over the last rise, the town appears laid out along the hilltop, with the towers of the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple, the stone steps of the Pancha Kalyani and the Narasimha shrine crowning the peak. Your driver will park near the main temple, from where most sights are within walking distance, and can then take the group partway up the hill to the start of the steps for the Narasimha temple. The town is small, peaceful and traditional; dress modestly, remove footwear at temple entrances, and carry some cash, since the small shops and eateries may not all accept digital payments. The local temple kitchens are known for their puliyogare and sakkare pongal, so do not miss the prasadam. Plan to finish the temples before they close for the afternoon break, visit Thonnur lake or the Janapada Seva Trust in between, and return to the temples for the evening opening if you want to see the rituals. Total driving time: three to three and a half hours.

Booking a Car for hire in Bangalore with Tejas Travels takes under 5 minutes. Follow these 4 steps:
STEP1 | Contact Tejas Travels Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location (area or landmark — Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, KIA airport, hotel name, tech park), destination or full itinerary, number of passengers, and preferred vehicle. For KIA airport pickups, share the flight number — the driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically. For luxury vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce), also mention the occasion — corporate, wedding, VIP event — so the team can ensure the best-condition vehicle and, where required, formal chauffeur attire. |
STEP2 | Receive Your Written Quote Within 2 hours of your enquiry, Tejas Travels sends a written quote via WhatsApp or email. The quote clearly itemizes every charge: vehicle hire rate (Rs/km or flat package), driver allowance (Rs 400-1,000/day depending on vehicle class), applicable toll estimates, and any interstate permit if applicable (Tamil Nadu for Ooty, Kerala for Wayanad, Andhra Pradesh for Tirupati). No verbal-only prices — everything in writing before you confirm. For corporate clients requiring reimbursements, a Proforma Invoice can be issued at this stage. If you want to compare two vehicle classes, request both quotes at the same time. |
STEP3 | Confirm Your Booking & Pay Advance Once satisfied with the written quote, confirm via WhatsApp or phone. A 15-20% advance payment confirms the booking. Payment: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), NEFT/IMPS/RTGS bank transfer, or credit/debit card via payment link. Advance receipt within 30 minutes. Confirmation includes: driver name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location, and full billing breakdown — all in writing. For luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class), advance may be higher due to limited fleet and Bangalore peak-date demand (wedding season November-February, New Year). |
STEP4 | Your Driver Arrives Early Your assigned Tejas Travels driver arrives at your confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure. For KIA airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the Arrivals gate. The vehicle is clean, sanitized, fuelled, and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings, the driver arrives in formal attire. The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy. During the trip, the driver handles all routing, toll payments, and Bangalore traffic navigation. At trip end, balance payment is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional km or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate. |

The bangalore to melukote distance is about 145 to 155 kilometres by road via the Bangalore–Mysore Expressway and Mandya. The drive takes three to three and a half hours with a breakfast halt, a little longer on weekend mornings when Mysore Road is busy.
The Mandya route uses the expressway and is usually the faster and smoother option. The Nagamangala route via Nelamangala, Kunigal and Bellur Cross on the Hassan highway is a good alternative if you want to combine Adichunchanagiri or avoid Mysore Road traffic. Your driver will suggest the better option on the day.
Fares start from around Rs 15 per kilometre for a sedan and depend on the vehicle and the number of days. Base fare, fuel and driver allowance are included. Toll and parking, driver bata after 9:45 PM and GST are extra, and the final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. The itemised written quote arrives within 2 hours of your enquiry.
No. Bangalore and Melukote are both in Karnataka, so no interstate tax or permit applies. If you extend the trip into Tamil Nadu or Kerala, the relevant permit is billed at actuals.
Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your date, pickup point, group size and plan. Once you approve the written quote, a 20 percent advance confirms the booking. We accept UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS and card payment links; the advance must be paid digitally, and the balance is settled at the end of the trip.
Yes. A melukote one day trip from bangalore is very comfortable: leave by 6:30 AM, spend four to five hours visiting the temples and Thonnur lake, and be back in Bangalore by evening. Outstation bookings carry a per-day minimum kilometre charge, which your quote will show clearly.
Melukote temple timings generally run from morning to midday and again in the evening, with a break in the afternoon, but they change on festival days. We confirm the timings before your trip and plan the schedule around them. Traditional, modest clothing is recommended, and footwear must be removed at temple entrances.
A small advance of around 20 percent of the total fare is typically collected at the time of booking to secure the vehicle and driver allocation, with the remaining balance payable at
the end of the trip either in cash directly to the driver or online via a payment link.

The Vairamudi festival draws very large crowds, and roads near Melukote are regulated with designated parking areas. Book your cab at least two to three weeks ahead, plan to arrive early, and expect some walking from the parking zone to the temple.
