Places to Visit in Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake is the centrepiece of the hill station and the attraction that almost every visitor sees first. Created artificially in 1863 under British administration, the lake spans around 60 acres in a distinctive star shape and sits at an elevation of about 2,285 metres, surrounded on all sides by forest and the pleasant streets of the town. Boating is the primary activity, with pedal boats, row boats and motor boats available for hire, and the shoreline path of around five kilometres is one of the most popular walks in the region, combining lake views with glimpses into the pine forest on the hillsides above. Cycling around the lake on rented bicycles is another favourite, particularly in the early morning when the mist is still on the water and the traffic is light. The proximity of Kodaikanal Lake to Bryant Park, the market street, and the main accommodation cluster makes it the natural starting point for a day of sightseeing in the town, and it tends to look its best in the late afternoon light when the western sky reflects across the water.

Coaker's Walk

Coaker's Walk

Coaker's Walk is a one-kilometre paved path that runs along the southern edge of Kodaikanal town at the rim of the hillside, built in 1872 by a lieutenant named Coaker and now one of the most popular morning and evening walking spots in the hill station. The path is set into the cliff face and the southern side opens to sheer drops into valleys that extend for kilometres toward the plains of Madurai and Theni, with the plains themselves visible on clear days through telescopes stationed along the walk. The walk is at its most atmospheric in the early morning when cloud fills the valleys below and gives the sensation of being suspended above the world, and in the late afternoon when the plains catch the last of the sunlight. Travellers staying for two or more days typically make this walk a morning ritual, and it connects naturally to Bryant Park at one end and to the main market at the other, making it easy to include in a circuit of the town centre.

Pillar Rocks

Pillar Rocks

Pillar Rocks is one of the most striking natural formations in Kodaikanal, consisting of three massive vertical granite boulders that stand side by side at a height of approximately 122 metres, rising from the forested hillside into the mist that frequently drifts across this part of the Palani Hills. The viewpoint platform provides a clear line of sight to the rocks and across the valley below, and the surrounding garden is well-maintained with benches and flowering plants that make it a comfortable stop for a range of visitors. The mist around the rocks creates a changing visual quality throughout the day: in the morning the rocks emerge from low cloud and the surrounding trees drip with condensation, while in the afternoon, when the mist thins, the full scale of the formations becomes more apparent. Photography here is consistently rewarding regardless of the conditions, and Pillar Rocks is included in almost every Kodaikanal tour package from Bangalore as one of the unmissable viewpoint stops.

Bryant Park

Bryant Park

Bryant Park, located on the eastern shore of Kodaikanal Lake, is a 20-acre botanical garden established in 1908 by the British Collector H. D. Bryant and now one of the most visited attractions in the hill station. The park is home to over 325 species of plants including extensive rose gardens, hybrid flower beds, a greenhouse with tropical species, and ornamental trees that create a pleasant enclosed world inside the garden walls that feels quite separate from the mist and pine outside. The annual horticultural show held every May draws exhibitors and visitors from across Tamil Nadu and is one of the larger garden events in the region, featuring elaborate displays of rare and cultivated flowers. For families travelling on a Bangalore to Kodaikanal car rental booking with children, Bryant Park is a reliable half-morning stop that combines colour, education and enough open lawn for younger visitors to run around in.

Silver Cascade Falls

Silver Cascade Falls

Silver Cascade Falls is typically the first significant attraction that travellers encounter when arriving in Kodaikanal by road, as it sits directly on the Kodai Ghat road approximately eight kilometres below the town, at a point where the overflow from Kodaikanal Lake drops around 55 metres down a rocky face into the valley below. The cascade is named for the silver-white appearance of the falling water against the dark rock, and it is one of the most photographed spots on the entire Bangalore to Kodaikanal route. The roadside viewpoint is easily accessible and requires no walking beyond a few steps from where a cab can pause on the ghat road, making it suitable for all ages. The falls are at their most powerful and visually spectacular during and after the monsoon season when the lake is full, while in summer the flow reduces considerably. Troops of monkeys often congregate on the rocks around the falls and have become part of the visual character of the stop, though visitors should keep food items out of sight.

Dolphin's Nose

Dolphin's Nose

Dolphin's Nose is a flat rock projection extending from the hillside approximately eight kilometres from Kodaikanal town, with the edge of the rock dropping sheer for several hundred metres into the valley on three sides, giving the sensation of standing at the prow of the hill itself when you walk to its tip. The views from this point take in a very wide panorama of the southern slopes of the Palani Hills, the valley below and, on exceptionally clear days, the plains extending toward Theni in the distance. The path to the nose from the nearest parking point is a walk of around one kilometre through shola forest, which is scenic enough to justify the stop even on days when the mist obscures the valley view. Dolphin's Nose is paired naturally with Echo Rock, a short distance further along the same path, where the curve of the rock face creates an echo effect that amuses visitors of all ages. Travellers on a one way cab Bangalore to Kodaikanal staying two or more nights often reserve this for the second morning.

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake is the most secluded and visually striking of the lakes near Kodaikanal, sitting 21 kilometres from town inside a protected forest reserve at around 2,230 metres altitude. Unlike Kodaikanal Lake, which sits in the middle of the town and is accessible to all, Berijam requires a forest department permit obtained in advance and entry is limited to a fixed number of vehicles per day, which gives it a quality of quietness and undisturbed natural beauty that the more popular attractions cannot offer. The lake is surrounded by dense shola forest and grassland and the surrounding area supports a good population of wildlife including spotted deer, gaur and an impressive variety of birds. The drive from Kodaikanal town to Berijam passes through scenic forest roads and several viewpoints that are worth pausing at in their own right. Travellers planning a longer Kodaikanal tour package from Bangalore of three or more days generally include Berijam as the highlight of one full day, often pairing it with Moir Point along the same forest road.

Guna Caves

Guna Caves

Guna Caves, also known locally as Devil's Kitchen, is a series of interconnected natural caverns formed within the rocky hillside below Pillar Rocks, reached by a short walk through pine and shola forest from the road near Pillar Rocks viewpoint. The caves became widely known after the 1993 Tamil film Guna was partly filmed here, and the connection with the film draws visitors alongside those who come for the caves themselves. The interior of the main cavern is notable for the quality of light that filters through gaps in the rock above, and the surrounding forest trail has a pleasant, slightly mysterious character that sets Guna Caves apart from the more open viewpoints in the area. Entry is currently regulated by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and the caves are only accessible when the forest remains open, which can vary by season, so checking current access before planning the visit is advisable. This stop pairs naturally with Pillar Rocks and Bryant Park on a circuit of the southern part of Kodaikanal town.

Force Urbania Packages for Bangalore to Kodaikanal

Three packages cover almost every kodaikanal tour package from bangalore enquiry we receive. Each is quoted on the same garage to garage basis, each includes the Tamil Nadu permit as a stated line item, and each can be adjusted, because a fixed package that does not fit your group is worth nothing.

Corporate Offsite Package

Built for technology and consulting teams from Whitefield, Electronic City, Manyata and the Outer Ring Road corridor. Twelve to sixteen seater Urbania, GST invoice, proforma invoice available at quote stage for purchase order approval, GPS tracking visible to the travel desk throughout, and a driver briefed on a fixed itinerary. Because the drive is a full day in each direction, this route works as a three day offsite rather than a weekend, typically departing Thursday night or very early Friday. Permits and paperwork are handled centrally so nothing lands on the travel desk. Consolidated monthly invoicing is available for registered corporate accounts, and repeat bookers can move onto thirty day credit terms. See our corporate travels bangalore page for account setup.

Family Package

Designed for extended family groups of eight to thirteen travelling with children or senior members, and built around the fact that the ghat climb is hardest on exactly those passengers. The outbound day is broken with a proper Salem lunch halt rather than a push through, seats are allocated with motion sickness in mind, and day two stays on the accessible town circuit of the lake, Coaker's Walk and Bryant Park before the outer viewpoints on day three. Dolphin's Nose is offered rather than assumed, since the walk back up is genuinely steep. Families comparing this against a premium car rentals in bangalore booking should note that one Urbania is almost always cheaper than two cabs across a route this long.

Luxury Package

The top tier of urbania on rent bangalore hire for this route. The newest vehicle in the fleet, an eight or nine seater in the one by one captain layout so every passenger has an individual window seat, a chauffeur in formal attire, coordination with the better properties around the lake and in the Pillar Rocks direction, and a schedule built around sunrise at Coaker's Walk and an early Berijam permit run. This suits milestone celebrations, anniversary trips, visiting international guests and small groups of photographers. Airport pickup on the outbound day can be added. Book at least a week ahead, and considerably further ahead for the April to June peak, when both vehicles and Kodaikanal accommodation fill early.

Billing Details for Your Bangalore to Kodaikanal Urbania Hire

Tejas Travels quotes every booking in writing before you commit, and the billing structure below appears on that quote in exactly these terms. Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking and guarantee the specific Urbania variant on your travel date. The balance is settled at trip end.

Included in the quoted fare:

●        Base fare and fuel charges

●        Driver allowance

Excluded from the quoted fare and billed separately at actuals:

●        Toll and parking charges

●        Interstate tax, where the itinerary crosses a state border

●        Additional driver bata after 9:45 pm

●        Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage

●        GST

Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover as part of the booking. Passengers who want travel insurance should arrange it independently before the trip.

Three practical notes on this route in particular. First, the interstate tax line is live here, because Kodaikanal is in Tamil Nadu and the vehicle crosses the border at Attibele. We arrange the permit and it appears as a stated amount on your quote rather than as a charge discovered later. Second, garage to garage means the meter starts when the vehicle leaves our yard and stops when it returns, which is standard practice for outstation hire and is stated upfront. Third, groups searching urbania per km rate bangalore and comparing quotes should confirm whether a competing quote is garage to garage or point to point, and whether it includes the interstate permit, because a quote missing that line is not comparable.

How to Book a Force Urbania from Bangalore to Kodaikanal

Booking takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1 - Contact Tejas Travels

●        Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

●        Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location by area or landmark, such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, the airport, a hotel name or a tech park.

●        Share your destination or full itinerary, the number of passengers, and your preferred Urbania variant from the 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seater range.

●        For airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.

●        For corporate, wedding or VIP bookings, mention the occasion so the team can allocate the best condition vehicle and arrange formal chauffeur attire where required.

●        For Kodaikanal specifically, confirm your travel dates as early as possible, since the Tamil Nadu permit is arranged in advance and peak season dates need longer lead time.

Step 2 - Receive your written quote

●        A written quote reaches you by WhatsApp or email within 2 hours of your enquiry.

●        The quote itemises every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, toll estimate, and the Tamil Nadu interstate permit, which applies on this route.

●        No verbal only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.

●        Corporate clients needing reimbursement can request a proforma invoice at this stage.

●        If you want to compare two vehicle classes, such as the 13 seater against the 15 seater, request both quotes at the same time.

Step 3 - Confirm your booking and pay the advance

●        Once you are satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

●        A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.

●        Pay by UPI through Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm, by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.

●        Your advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.

●        Confirmation includes driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.

●        For peak dates, including the April to June summer season, long weekends, Diwali and New Year, a higher advance may apply because the Urbania fleet is limited.

Step 4 - Your driver arrives early

●        Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

●        For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the arrivals gate.

●        The vehicle arrives clean, sanitised, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.

●        The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.

●        During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the border crossing paperwork and the ghat climb.

●        At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods, for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.

●        UPI. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt, and the recommended route for all advance deposits.

●        Bank transfer. NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 10,000. IMPS is instant and NEFT can take up to 2 hours.

●        Credit or debit card. Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile number or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.

●        Net banking. All major Indian banks, through a payment link sent by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for purchase order based approvals in the Bangalore technology sector.

●        Cash. Accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance must be paid digitally for the booking to be confirmed.

●        Corporate credit. Thirty day credit terms for registered and signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.

Fleet note: the Force Urbania fleet is smaller than the standard tempo traveller fleet, and specific variants book out ahead of long weekends, Diwali, New Year and the Bangalore wedding season. The April to June Kodaikanal season fills earliest of all. An advance payment is what guarantees your seating variant on your date.

Cancellation Policy

Tejas Travels maintains a fair, transparent and tiered cancellation policy. All terms are communicated in writing at booking confirmation, with no hidden conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Kodaikannal Urbania

Kodaikanal is 465 kilometres from central Bangalore on NH44 through Hosur, Salem, Karur and Dindigul, then the ghat road from Batlagundu. Realistic driving time is nine and a half to ten hours including meal halts. The last sixty kilometres alone take about ninety minutes, because the climb has roughly twenty hairpin bends and cannot be rushed safely.

Rates start at Rs 40 per kilometre. Fuel is included and billing is garage to garage. A two night trip with local sightseeing runs about 1,000 kilometres, which puts a 13 seater booking around Rs 38,300 plus driver bata, tolls, the Tamil Nadu permit and GST. Every quote is itemised in writing before you confirm.

Yes. Kodaikanal is in Tamil Nadu and the vehicle crosses the state border at Attibele, so a Tamil Nadu permit is required for a commercial vehicle. Tejas Travels arranges it as part of the booking and the driver carries the documentation, so the crossing is a formality for your group. The permit cost is billed at actuals and appears as a stated line on your quote rather than as a charge added later.

In recent years the Tamil Nadu authorities have operated an e-pass system for vehicles entering Kodaikanal and Ooty during the summer peak, broadly April to June, following directions from the Madras High Court. The rules and the exact window have changed from season to season. If your travel dates fall in that period, treat any older blog post as unreliable and confirm the current requirement with us when you book, since anything kodaikanal e pass related is handled at our end along with the permit.

Twenty per cent of the total fare. The advance must be paid digitally, by UPI, bank transfer or card, for the booking to be confirmed. Your receipt is issued within 30 minutes and the balance is settled at trip end after the advance is deducted.

The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and the driver allowance. Charged separately are toll and parking, interstate tax, which does apply on this route, additional driver bata after 9:45 pm, and GST. The final rental is calculated on the total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels and should be arranged independently if you want it.

It can be done but it is not enjoyable. Ten hours of driving each way inside a two day trip leaves roughly half a day on the hill. Two nights and three days is the realistic minimum: day one is the drive with the lake and Coaker's Walk at the end, day two covers the town and outer viewpoints, day three is the return with an optional Madurai stop. Three nights allows Berijam and the Poombarai loop as well.

Yes. Berijam sits inside a reserve forest and entry requires a permit issued by the District Forest Office, with a capped number available each day and a restricted entry window. The rules change between seasons. We can advise on the current position and the timing your group would need to leave Kodaikanal by, but the permit itself is issued locally and cannot be guaranteed in advance.

September to March gives you clear weather and comfortable temperatures with far lighter traffic. April to June is peak season, when the hill station is at its busiest, accommodation prices rise sharply and entry restrictions are most likely to apply. The monsoon months from July to August are green and quiet but the ghat road gets slippery and viewpoints are frequently closed in by cloud for days at a time.

Cancellations more than 72 hours before departure carry no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Charges apply on a sliding scale inside that window as set out in the cancellation policy above. Date changes with more than 24 hours notice are accommodated at no penalty, subject to fleet availability and permit revalidation for the new dates. Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your booking reference and you will have written confirmation within 2 hours.
