Agumbe Sunset Point

Jogigundi Falls
A small, pretty waterfall about four kilometres from Agumbe, reached by a short walk through the forest. The water falls into a deep pool believed to be the origin point of the Malapahari river. It is the easiest waterfall to reach in the area and a good choice for families. Wear leech socks or carry salt during the rains.
Barkana Falls
One of the tallest waterfalls in Karnataka, dropping through the Seetha river valley inside the rainforest. The viewpoint and trek trails lie within protected forest, so access rules can change and forest department permission may be needed. Onake Abbi Falls
Its name means "pestle waterfall", after the long, narrow shape of the stream as it falls down the rock face. Reaching it involves a forest walk with some uneven sections, which makes it popular with trekkers. Go with a local guide and check trail conditions before setting out.
Kundadri Hills
About twenty kilometres from Agumbe, kundadri hills rise to a rocky summit crowned by an old Jain temple associated with the scholar Acharya Kundakunda. A narrow road climbs most of the way, followed by a short walk. Two small rock pools sit near the top, and the panoramic view over the Malnad forests is one of the finest in the district.
Doddamane
Much of the television series Malgudi Days, directed by Shankar Nag and based on R. K. Narayan's stories, was filmed in Agumbe in the 1980s. Doddamane, a traditional Malnad home with a tiled roof and wooden pillars, appeared in the series and is still lived in by the family. It has long welcomed travellers, but it is a private home, so visit respectfully and only with permission.
Agumbe Rainforest Research Station
Founded by herpetologist Romulus Whitaker, this research station is known for its work on the king cobra, which lives in the forests around the village. It is a working research centre rather than a tourist site, so casual visits are not always possible. Keep an eye on its occasional nature programmes if you want to learn about the agumbe rainforest in depth.
Sringeri Sharada Peetham
Around twenty-five kilometres away on the banks of the Tunga, Sringeri is one of the four great mathas established by Adi Shankaracharya. The Vidyashankara Temple, with its zodiac pillars, and the Sharadamba Temple draw pilgrims throughout the year.
