Venkatapathi Bhavi (Lakshabhavi)
A royal stepwell built in the 16th century by Venkatappa Nayaka, brother of the ruler Udachappa Nayaka. It is also called Lakshabhavi because it reportedly cost one lakh gold varahas. The venkatapathi bhavi has staircases at each corner, a carved pavilion, and small shrines to Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva facing each other across the water. Look for the Gajasura Samhara panel on the staircase wall. It is a short drive from the main temple and rarely crowded, which makes it ideal for photography in the late afternoon light.
Anjanadri Hill
Around 45 minutes from Kanakagiri near Anegundi, this rocky hill is revered as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Roughly 575 whitewashed steps lead to the hilltop temple, and the climb is repaid with one of the finest views in the region: boulder fields, banana plantations and the Tungabhadra river winding towards Hampi. Anegundi — The Kishkindha of the Ramayana
Older than Hampi and sitting on the northern bank of the Tungabhadra, Anegundi was the earliest seat of the Vijayanagara empire and is identified with the monkey kingdom of Kishkindha. The annual Anegundi Utsava brings music and dance to the old palace grounds.
Pampa Sarovar
A calm lotus pond at the foot of the hills near Anegundi, linked in the Ramayana to the devotee Shabari, who waited here for Lord Rama. A small Lakshmi temple and a hilltop cave shrine sit beside the water. It is a gentle, shaded stop that works well with Anjanadri on the same outing, particularly for elderly travellers who want the spiritual experience without a long climb.
Nava Brindavana
An island in the Tungabhadra holding the memorial shrines of nine revered saints of the Madhva tradition. It is an important pilgrimage point for Madhva followers, and the setting, surrounded by flowing water and granite boulders, is striking even for non-pilgrims. Access depends on river levels and local boat arrangements, so check conditions a day ahead.
Hampi — The City of Ruins
The UNESCO World Heritage capital of the Vijayanagara empire lies across the river, roughly an hour from Kanakagiri by road. The Virupaksha Temple, the stone chariot at Vittala Temple, the Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables need at least a full day. Today most travellers know it as a reliable highway halt with fuel pumps and roadside eateries serving thatte idli and strong filter coffee. The road here is straight and well maintained, and your driver will usually keep a steady pace through this section. If you left Bangalore without breakfast, the dhabas around Sira are a good choice. Kallina Kote
The approach to Chitradurga is announced by granite hills topped with wind turbines. The city is famous as "Kallina Kote", the Stone Fortress, built in seven concentric rings by the Nayakas of Chitradurga. Its most loved story is that of Onake Obavva, the woman who defended a secret passage in the fort with only a wooden pestle. The fort needs at least two hours to explore properly, so many travellers visit it on the return journey. The bangalore to kanakagiri distance is approximately 380 kilometres via Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Hosapete and Gangavathi. Driving time is 7 to 8 hours, or about 8 to 9 hours with breakfast and lunch stops. Kanakagiri is about 48 kilometres from Hampi, 23 kilometres from Gangavathi and 50 kilometres from Koppal city.

Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure costs nothing, and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. The charge is 10 percent of the total fare between 48 and 72 hours, 25 percent between 24 and 48 hours, and 50 percent between 12 and 24 hours. Multi-day outstation trips such as Kanakagiri require a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund. Date changes made more than 24 hours in advance are accommodated at no penalty, subject to availability.
