Kanakachalapathi (Lakshmi Narasimha) Temple
The reason to come. This 16th century Vishnu temple was the principal shrine of the Gujjala Nayaka chieftains who ruled Kanakagiri under the Vijayanagara empire, and it shows. Tall gopurams, a pillared rangamantapa, lime sculptures and faded ceiling paintings of epic scenes fill the complex. Local legend says the deity was found in an anthill where the cows of the first Nayaka ruler kept pouring out their milk. The kanakagiri temple is at its liveliest during the annual Phalguna jatre, when the chariot festival draws crowds from across the district.

Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Kalpataru Nadu
A wide, fast six-lane highway through open farmland brings you to Tumakuru, called "Kalpataru Nadu", the Land of Coconut Groves, for the thousands of coconut palms that line the countryside. The city is best known for the Siddaganga Mutt, which has fed and educated generations of rural children, and for Devarayanadurga, a forested hill temple a short drive to the east. On the highway itself, Tumakuru offers plenty of clean restaurants, so it is a sensible place for early breakfast if your group is hungry. Most drivers use the bypass to avoid the city centre, keeping the journey smooth. By now the landscape starts to shift from the green of the Bangalore belt to the drier plains of central Karnataka. Elapsed time: roughly 1 hour 30 minutes.

Thatte idli
Sira is a quiet town with a surprisingly important past. During the Mughal period it served as a provincial seat, and the ruins of its fort and the elegant tomb of Malik Rehan still recall those years. Today most travellers know it as a reliable highway halt with fuel pumps and roadside eateries serving thatte idli and strong filter coffee. The road here is straight and well maintained, and your driver will usually keep a steady pace through this section. If you left Bangalore without breakfast, the dhabas around Sira are a good choice. Groups travelling with children often use this halt to stretch their legs before the longer run towards Chitradurga. Elapsed time: about 2 hours 15 minutes.

Kallina Kote
The approach to Chitradurga is announced by granite hills topped with wind turbines. The city is famous as "Kallina Kote", the Stone Fortress, built in seven concentric rings by the Nayakas of Chitradurga. Its most loved story is that of Onake Obavva, the woman who defended a secret passage in the fort with only a wooden pestle. The fort needs at least two hours to explore properly, so many travellers visit it on the return journey. On the outward trip, Chitradurga is the natural breakfast or brunch halt, with a good choice of vegetarian restaurants near the bypass. This is also where NH48 continues north towards Davanagere and your driver turns north-east onto NH50 towards Hosapete. Elapsed time: about 3 hours 45 minutes.

Gateway to Hampi
As the road nears Hosapete, the landscape changes dramatically. Giant granite boulders appear on both sides, sugarcane and banana fields replace the dry scrub, and the first signs for Hampi come into view. Hosapete, the headquarters of Vijayanagara district, is known as the "Gateway to Hampi", which lies just 13 kilometres away. The town is also home to the Tungabhadra Dam, one of the largest reservoirs in Karnataka. Hosapete has the widest choice of hotels and restaurants in the region, which is why many of our guests base themselves here and make Kanakagiri a day trip. It is the right place for lunch on the outward journey. Travellers who have booked a bangalore to hospet cab usually end their drive here. Elapsed time: about 6 hours.
Swarnagiri
The final leg follows SH29 north-east for about 30 minutes through mango orchards and farmland. Kanakagiri, known in older texts as "Swarnagiri", the Hill of Gold, takes its name from the sage Kanaka Muni, who is said to have performed penance here. Tradition also links it with the Suvarnagiri mentioned as a southern seat during Emperor Ashoka's time. The town grew into a proud cultural centre under the Gujjala Nayakas, who ruled from here from the 15th to the 19th century and filled it with temples, mantapas and wells. Two state highways, SH29 and SH63, meet in town, and the Kanakachalapathi Temple sits right at its heart. Your cab will drop you at the temple, your stay, or anywhere else in town. On round trips, the driver stays with you for the full visit. Total elapsed time: about 7 hours 30 minutes.

Our most popular plan for this route: a three to four day circuit covering Chitradurga on the way, two days in Hampi, a half day at Kanakagiri and Venkatapati Bhavi, Anjanadri Hill, and the Tungabhadra Dam. The same Urbania and driver stay with you throughout, and we can suggest hotel halts in Hosapete or Hampi to suit your budget.
Built around darshan at the Kanakachalapathi temple, the climb to Anjanadri for the Hanuman temple, and the Virupaksha Temple in Hampi. The driver plans around temple timings and festival crowds, and the recliner seats make the long drive comfortable for elders. Families visiting during the Kanakagiri Utsav can extend the trip through our outstation vehicle booking service.
For Bangalore companies planning heritage offsites, team outings to Hampi, or visits to plants and offices in the Hosapete and Koppal industrial belt. The package includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO approval, a named driver for the full trip and signed daily duty slips. Our corporate travels bangalore desk manages consolidated billing for registered accounts.
The best-condition vehicle in the fleet, a senior chauffeur in formal attire and a flexible, unhurried itinerary, suited to visiting guests, NRI families and milestone trips. Our luxury urbania rental bangalore option pairs well with the heritage hotels and resorts around Hampi and Hosapete.

The bangalore to kanakagiri distance is approximately 395 to 410 kilometres via Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Hosapete and Gangavathi. Driving time is 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours 30 minutes, so we recommend an overnight halt at Hosapete or Hampi and visiting Kanakagiri as part of a heritage circuit.
Pricing starts from around Rs 40 per kilometre for a 13 seater Force Urbania and depends on the seating variant and number of days. The fare includes base fare, fuel and driver allowance. Toll, parking, driver bata after 9:45 PM and GST are extra, and the final rental is based on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage. You receive an itemised written quote within 2 hours.
Three days is a comfortable minimum: one day to drive up, one full day in Hampi, and a morning at Kanakagiri with Anjanadri before the drive home. Four days lets you add the Tungabhadra Dam, Hemagudda Fort and a slower pace at the monuments.
The Kannada proverb says that those with eyes must see Kanakagiri and those with legs must walk Hampi. It means Kanakagiri's temple and stepwell are so beautiful that anyone who can see should visit them, while Hampi is so vast that it can only be explored on foot.
No. The entire route from Bangalore to Hosapete, Hampi, Gangavathi and Kanakagiri stays within Karnataka, so no inter state tax applies. Only toll and parking are paid at actuals.
October to February is the most comfortable season, with cool mornings and clear skies for walking around monuments. The Kanakagiri Utsav in February or March is the most festive time. April and May are very hot in this region, so plan sightseeing for early mornings and late afternoons if you travel then.
Our Urbania fleet covers 13 to 17 seater configurations. For a multi-day heritage trip, choose one size above your headcount to leave space for luggage. For eight to twelve people a tempo traveller is more economical; above seventeen, a mini bus or bus fits better.
Hosapete has the widest range of hotels, and there are guesthouses and resorts around Hampi and Anegundi. Options in Kanakagiri itself are limited, so most groups stay in Hosapete or Hampi and visit Kanakagiri as a half-day trip. Book early during the Hampi Utsav, the Kanakagiri Utsav and winter weekends.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking. Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the advance is refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Charges then rise from 10 percent to 75 percent of the fare as departure gets closer, and a no-show is charged in full. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passenger insurance and does not operate sleeper buses.
Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com, with your travel date, Bangalore pickup point, group size and day-wise itinerary. You receive a written quote within 2 hours. Confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance and you get driver details, vehicle registration and the full billing breakdown in writing. Our force urbania hire line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
