Subramanya Shashti Festival and Cattle Fair
The biggest event of the year falls on Subramanya Shashti, usually in November or December, when a grand chariot festival draws huge crowds. Around the same season, the area has traditionally hosted one of the best-known cattle fairs in the region, with farmers bringing livestock from across Karnataka. If you plan to visit during this time, start very early and expect heavy traffic near the temple.
Makalidurga Fort and Trek
About ten kilometres from the temple, Makalidurga is a rocky hill topped by old fort ruins. The makalidurga trek is a favourite with Bangalore trekkers, offering views of the Gundamgere lake and a railway line that curves around the foot of the hill. It is steep in places, so start early, carry water and avoid wet rock after rain.
Nandi Hills
Around thirty-five kilometres away, Nandi Hills is one of Bangalore's favourite sunrise spots, with Tipu's Drop, old fort walls and cool breezes. Adding it to a Ghati visit makes a full, varied day. Note that entry timings and vehicle rules at Nandi Hills can change, so check before you go.
Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple

Devanahalli Fort
Near Kempegowda International Airport, Devanahalli is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Tipu Sultan. Its stone fort walls, the Venugopalaswamy Temple and the small memorial marking Tipu's birthplace make a good stop on the way home.
Hesaraghatta Lake and Grasslands
On the alternative route, Hesaraghatta lake and the surrounding grasslands are known for birdwatching, especially raptors and grassland birds in the cooler months. It is a peaceful place for a short walk away from the city.
Nrityagram Dance Village
Near Hesaraghatta, Nrityagram is a residential dance school founded by the Odissi dancer Protima Gauri, set in thoughtfully designed buildings among trees. Visitor access and timings are limited, so check in advance if you would like to stop.
