Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary Treks

River terns, fish eagles, kingfishers and woodpeckers are common after the monsoon. Early morning walks give the best sightings and cooler air.
Galibore Hillock
The windy hillock that gives the camp its name offers a gentle climb and a wide view over the forest and the bends of the Kaveri. Walk up with a naturalist, as the sanctuary does not allow unguided wandering.
Sangama
A short drive back towards Kanakapura, Sangama is the confluence of the Arkavathi and the Kaveri. The broad sandbanks are lively on weekends, and it is also the starting point for the crossing to Mekedatu.
Mekedatu
From Sangama, forest department buses carry visitors to Mekedatu, where the Kaveri races through a gap in the rock so narrow that legend says a goat leapt across it. The swirling water has carved deep round potholes in the granite, which are worth a close look from safe ground.
Chunchi Falls Viewpoint
On the Sangama road, a short detour leads to the Chunchi Falls viewpoint and watchtower above the Arkavathi gorge. Going down to the water is currently restricted, so enjoy the view from the marked points.
Bheemeshwari
Further downstream, Bheemeshwari is the sister Jungle Lodges camp on the Kaveri, known for riverside cottages and coracle trips. Some travellers pair a night at each camp for a longer river holiday.
Muthathi

The Urbania can comfortably cover the route up to Sangama. The last stretch to the camp is a forest track that can be rough, especially after rain. During the monsoon, from June to September, the forest is lush, but the river runs high, some activities may be suspended and the forest track becomes difficult.
