Places to Visit in BR Hills

BRT Tiger Reserve
The BRT Tiger Reserve is the single biggest reason travellers book a cab to BR Hills. Spread across more than 539 square kilometres, the reserve sits at the confluence of the Eastern and Western Ghats, which gives it an unusual mix of scrub, deciduous and shola forest inside one sanctuary. Jeep safaris here run at fixed morning and evening slots and offer a genuine chance to spot elephants, gaur, sloth bears, leopards and, if you are fortunate, a tiger. Birdwatchers are equally rewarded, with hornbills and several Western Ghats endemic species recorded inside the reserve. Because gate timings and safari slots are limited, arriving with a driver familiar with the schedule, rather than self-driving, makes it far easier to plan your day without missing the safari window or the forest checkpost cut-off time in the evening.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Ramanagara
Silk town and Sholay rocks
Around fifty kilometres into the drive, the route passes Ramanagara, widely known as the silk town of Karnataka for its cocoon markets, and equally famous among film buffs as the rocky filming location of the classic movie Sholay. The granite hills flanking the highway here are popular with rock climbers and offer a scenic first photo stop of the trip. A short break here for tea or breakfast at one of the highway restaurants is a common way to start the day before continuing further south.

Channapatna
Toy Town of Karnataka
Channapatna, reached shortly after Ramanagara, is internationally recognised for its lacquered wooden toys, a craft that has earned the town its nickname, the Toy Town of Karnataka. Roadside shops along the highway sell colourful hand-turned toys, dolls and kitchenware, making this an easy and popular shopping stop for families travelling with children. The craft has geographical indication protection and buying directly from these highway stores supports the local artisan community that has practised this woodworking tradition for generations.

Maddur and Mandya
Famous Maddur vade and sugar belt
Continuing along the highway, the route passes Maddur, a town every regular traveller on this road associates with the crisp, deep fried Maddur vade sold at roadside eateries. A little further is Mandya, the heart of Karnataka's sugarcane growing belt, recognisable by the fields lining both sides of the highway. This stretch is typically used as a short breakfast or snack break by most cab drivers running the Bangalore to Mysuru highway corridor.
Srirangapatna
Tipu Sultan's island fort city
Srirangapatna is a river island town on the Kaveri that once served as the capital of Tipu Sultan, and it remains rich in Mysore era history. The Ranganathaswamy Temple, the fort ruins and Tipu's summer palace, Daria Daulat Bagh, are all worth a short detour if your schedule allows, offering a glimpse into eighteenth century Mysore architecture and history. Many travellers choose to combine a BR Hills trip with a quick stop here since it adds very little extra travel time to the overall route.

Mysuru
City of palaces
Mysuru, roughly two thirds of the way to BR Hills, is one of Karnataka's most visited cities, home to the grand Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and a well-known food and market culture. Depending on your itinerary and time available, you can either bypass the city on the ring road to save time or plan a short stop, especially if you intend to see the palace lit up in the evening on your return leg. Fuel stations, restaurants and rest stops are plentiful here, making it a natural checkpoint on a long drive.

Nanjangud
Temple town on the Kapila river
Nanjangud is best known for the Srikanteshwara Temple, one of the larger and older Shiva temples in the region, situated on the banks of the Kapila river. The town also marks the point where the route begins moving away from the main Mysuru city traffic towards the quieter roads leading to Chamarajanagar. A short stop here for temple visits or a quick meal is common among pilgrims travelling this route.

Chamarajanagar
Gateway to the BR Hills forest belt
Chamarajanagar is the last major town before the road climbs into the forest, and it is usually the final reliable point for fuel, ATMs, mobile network and last minute supplies before entering the reserve area. From here, the character of the drive changes noticeably, with tree cover thickening and the road beginning its gradual climb towards the hills, giving the first real sense of arriving in wildlife territory.

BR Hills
Destination - forest, temple and wildlife reserve
The final stretch into BR Hills winds through dense sal and deciduous forest before opening up at the hill top settlement near the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple and the BRT Tiger Reserve entry points. Depending on your accommodation and safari booking, your driver will guide you to the forest checkpost, resort or camp, keeping in mind that most forest gates close well before nightfall. From here, your BR Hills itinerary of temple visits, safaris and nature walks can begin.

Force Urbania Packages for Bangalore to BR Hills
Three packages cover almost every br hills tour package from bangalore enquiry we receive. Each is quoted on the same garage to garage basis and each can be adjusted. Safari, forest entry and accommodation costs sit outside our quote and are arranged with the department or your camp.
Corporate Offsite Package
Built for technology and consulting teams from Whitefield, Electronic City, Manyata and the Outer Ring Road corridor who want somewhere their team has not already been. Twelve to sixteen seater Urbania, GST invoice, proforma invoice available at quote stage for purchase order approval, GPS tracking visible to the travel desk, and a driver who has run the ghat before. BR Hills works for offsites precisely because it is unfamiliar and because there is no phone signal to speak of in parts of the reserve, which does more for a team weekend than any planned activity. Departure is timed to clear the checkpost in daylight. See our corporate travels bangalore page for account setup.
Family and Pilgrimage Package
BR Hills is one of the few destinations that serves two quite different family interests at once, the temple and the forest, which makes it unusually good for multi generational groups. The schedule puts the temple on the arrival afternoon while older members are fresh, keeps safari optional the next morning for those who want it, and uses the drive up viewpoints for everyone else. The vehicle stays available throughout so the group can split without anybody being stranded. Families comparing this against a premium car rentals in bangalore booking should note that one Urbania is almost always cheaper than two cabs, and considerably safer on the ghat.
Luxury Package
The top tier of urbania on rent bangalore hire for this route. The newest vehicle in the fleet, an eight or nine seater in the one by one captain layout so every passenger has an individual window seat, a chauffeur in formal attire, and a schedule built around first light at the viewpoints and an early safari slot. This suits photographers, visiting guests and small groups who want the hill without the crowd, and it extends naturally into MM Hills or down to Shivanasamudra on the way home. Airport pickup on the outbound morning can be added. Book ahead for March to May and avoid the temple car festival dates unless that is specifically what you have come for.
Billing Details for Your Bangalore to BR Hills Urbania Hire
Tejas Travels quotes every booking in writing before you commit, and the billing structure below appears on that quote in exactly these terms. Twenty per cent of the total fare is payable in advance to confirm the booking and guarantee the specific Urbania variant on your travel date. The balance is settled at trip end.
Included in the quoted fare:
● Base fare and fuel charges
● Driver allowance
Excluded from the quoted fare and billed separately at actuals:
● Toll and parking charges
● Interstate tax, where the itinerary crosses a state border
● Additional driver bata after 9:45 pm
● Final rental is calculated on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage
● GST
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover as part of the booking. Passengers who want travel insurance should arrange it independently before the trip.
Three practical notes for this route. First, safari charges, forest entry and accommodation are entirely separate from your vehicle hire and are paid to the department or your camp. Nothing in our quote covers them. Second, garage to garage means the meter starts when the vehicle leaves our yard and stops when it returns, which on a two night trip covers the days the vehicle is stationed with you on the hill. Third, the BR Hills route stays within Karnataka, so no interstate tax applies unless you continue toward Tamil Nadu. Groups searching urbania per km rate bangalore should confirm whether a competing quote is garage to garage or point to point, because the two are not comparable numbers.

How to Book a Force Urbania from Bangalore to BR Hills
Booking takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.
Step 1 - Contact Tejas Travels
● Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
● Share your travel date, Bangalore pickup location by area or landmark, such as Whitefield, Electronic City, MG Road, Koramangala, the airport, a hotel name or a tech park.
● Share your destination or full itinerary, the number of passengers, and your preferred Urbania variant from the 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16 seater range.
● For airport pickups, share the flight number. The driver tracks live flight status and adjusts pickup timing for delayed flights automatically.
● For corporate, wedding or VIP bookings, mention the occasion so the team can allocate the best condition vehicle and arrange formal chauffeur attire where required.
● For BR Hills specifically, tell us where you are staying on the hill and your safari slot if you have one, since the departure time is set backwards from the checkpost closing time.
Step 2 - Receive your written quote
● A written quote reaches you by WhatsApp or email within 2 hours of your enquiry.
● The quote itemises every charge: vehicle hire rate in rupees per kilometre or as a flat package, driver allowance, toll estimate, and any interstate permit if the itinerary requires one.
● Safari charges, forest entry and accommodation are not part of the quote and are paid to the department or your camp.
● No verbal only prices. Everything is in writing before you confirm.
● Corporate clients needing reimbursement can request a proforma invoice at this stage, and comparison quotes for two vehicle classes can be issued together.
Step 3 - Confirm your booking and pay the advance
● Once you are satisfied with the written quote, confirm by WhatsApp or phone.
● A 20 per cent advance payment of the total fare confirms the booking.
● Pay by UPI through Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm, by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS bank transfer, or by credit or debit card through a payment link.
● Your advance receipt is issued within 30 minutes.
● Confirmation includes driver name and mobile number, vehicle registration, departure time, pickup location and the full billing breakdown, all in writing.
● For peak dates, including the temple car festival in April, the March to May wildlife season, long weekends and New Year, a higher advance may apply because the Urbania fleet is limited.
Step 4 - Your driver arrives early
● Your assigned driver reaches the confirmed Bangalore pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.
● For airport transfers, the driver coordinates at the arrivals gate.
● The vehicle arrives clean, sanitised, fuelled and ready. For wedding and VIP bookings the driver is in formal attire.
● The driver calls 30 minutes before arrival as a courtesy.
● During the trip the driver handles all routing, toll payments, the checkpost formalities and the ghat climb.
● At trip end the balance is settled after deducting the advance. Any additional kilometres or hours are billed at the pre agreed rate.
Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your vehicle preference, Bangalore pickup location, destination and travel date. Written quote in 2 hours.
Payment Methods
Tejas Travels accepts all major digital and traditional payment methods, for both the advance and the final settlement at trip end.
● UPI. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI and Amazon Pay. The fastest method, with instant confirmation on receipt, and the recommended route for all advance deposits.
● Bank transfer. NEFT, IMPS and RTGS. Used by corporate clients and for advances above Rs 10,000. IMPS is instant and NEFT can take up to 2 hours.
● Credit or debit card. Visa, Mastercard and RuPay, through a payment link sent to your registered mobile number or email. Valid for both advance and full payment.
● Net banking. All major Indian banks, through a payment link sent by WhatsApp or email. Preferred for purchase order based approvals in the Bangalore technology sector.
● Cash. Accepted for the balance at trip end, with a receipt issued. The advance must be paid digitally for the booking to be confirmed.
● Corporate credit. Thirty day credit terms for registered and signed corporate accounts, with monthly consolidated invoicing available.
Fleet note: the Force Urbania fleet is smaller than the standard tempo traveller fleet, and specific variants book out ahead of long weekends, Diwali, New Year and the Bangalore wedding season. Accommodation on the hill is very limited, so book the vehicle and the room at the same time rather than one after the other.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to BR Hill Urbania
BR Hills is about 185 kilometres from central Bangalore via Kanakapura, Malavalli, Kollegal and Yelandur. Realistic driving time is four and a half hours including one halt, of which the final twenty five kilometre ghat climb takes forty five minutes to an hour on its own. The route can also be driven via Mysore and Chamarajanagar, which is slightly longer but useful if you are combining the trip with Mysore.
Yes, and it is the most important thing to plan around. The road through the reserve is closed to traffic overnight, with gates that shut in the evening and reopen in the morning. Arriving after the cut off means being turned back, with the nearest accommodation an hour back down in Yelandur or Kollegal. Leave Bangalore in the morning. Confirm the current gate hours with your camp before you travel, since they can vary by season.
Rates start at Rs 40 per kilometre. Fuel is included and billing is garage to garage. A two night trip runs about 420 kilometres in total, which puts a 13 seater booking around Rs 23,100 plus driver bata, tolls and GST. Safari and accommodation costs are separate.
No. Safari inside BRT Tiger Reserve is conducted in forest department jeeps, booked through the department or your camp, with capped seats in two daily slots. Your Urbania brings the group up, stays available on the hill, and runs you to the safari departure point. The public road through the reserve is a different thing from a game drive, and no operator can take your group off it.
It is possible and it is a compromise. Nine hours of driving for a few hours on the hill means the temple and perhaps a viewpoint, with no safari and no time at K Gudi. Two nights is what the place deserves, and even one night transforms it, because the mornings here are the best part of the day and a day tripper never sees one.
Twenty per cent of the total fare. The advance must be paid digitally, by UPI, bank transfer or card, for the booking to be confirmed. Your receipt is issued within 30 minutes and the balance is settled at trip end after the advance is deducted.
The quoted fare includes the base fare, fuel charges and the driver allowance. Charged separately are toll and parking, interstate tax where applicable, additional driver bata after 9:45 pm, and GST. The final rental is calculated on the total kilometres and hours from our garage back to our garage. Safari, forest entry and accommodation are outside our quote entirely. Passenger insurance is not covered by Tejas Tours and Travels and should be arranged independently if you want it.
October to February is the most comfortable, with cool mornings and clear views from the ridge. March to May brings better wildlife sightings as water becomes scarce, at the cost of heat on the plains below. The monsoon is green and atmospheric but visibility drops and the ghat gets slippery. Avoid the April temple car festival unless you have specifically come for it, because the ghat road and the hill fill completely.
Largely yes, with planning. The temple involves a short climb and the viewpoints are drive up stops requiring almost no walking, which makes the hill more accessible than most wildlife destinations. The ghat road is the consideration: twenty five kilometres of continuous bends affects anyone prone to motion sickness, so seat those passengers forward and keep the climb unhurried. Safari is optional rather than the whole point here, which is what makes this route work for mixed age groups.
Cancellations more than 72 hours before departure carry no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Charges apply on a sliding scale inside that window as set out above. Note that our terms cover the vehicle only, and your camp and safari bookings have their own cancellation policies. Date changes with more than 24 hours notice are accommodated at no penalty, subject to fleet availability.
