Murudeshwar Temple and Shiva Statue
The Murudeshwar Temple is the centrepiece of the town and one of the most spectacular temple settings in South India, perched on the rocky hill of Kanduka Giri with the Arabian Sea surrounding it on three sides and the Western Ghats visible to the east. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murudeshwara, a form of Shiva, and the sanctum sanctorum is believed to enshrine a fragment of the sacred Atmalinga that was broken when Ravana attempted to uproot it at Gokarna. The 20-storey Raja Gopuram, rising 249 feet and constructed in 2008, is one of the tallest temple towers in India and is equipped with a lift that takes visitors to the top for a panoramic view of the coastline, the Shiva statue and the surrounding hills that is quite extraordinary. The 123-foot statue of Lord Shiva, seated in a posture of calm with the trident beside him, is the visual landmark of Murudeshwar visible from the sea and from the road, and the sculptural detail of the figure, the surrounding tableaux of mythological scenes from the Ramayana and the Gita, and the Bhukailasa Cave Museum beneath the statue together make this complex a visit of several hours. All travellers on a Bangalore to Murudeshwar taxi booking plan the temple and statue complex as the main event of their first day.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumkur
Northern city exit
The journey from Bangalore to Murudeshwar begins on NH 48 heading northwest from the city, covering approximately 70 kilometres to Tumkur in the opening stage. The road through the northwestern suburbs is the standard exit corridor for routes heading into north Karnataka, and the drive quality depends significantly on departure time. Leaving Bangalore before five-thirty in the morning clears the city edge and Nelamangala Junction cleanly, making the run to Tumkur considerably faster and less congested than a later departure. Tumkur is the first established break point, with fuel stations and highway restaurants serving early morning South Indian breakfasts, and most drivers confirm a fuel top-up here before the longer stretches toward Davanagere begin. Beyond Tumkur, NH 48 runs northwest through Sira, Hiriyur and on toward Chitradurga on a well-maintained national highway with good road quality. The short highlight: Tumkur - northern city exit via NH 48; first break point and fuel stop before the Karnataka interior.

Davanagere
Famous benne dosa breakfast stop on the highway
From Tumkur, the route continues northwest for approximately 205 kilometres to Davanagere, passing through Chitradurga along the way. Chitradurga, reached at around the 200-kilometre mark from Bangalore, is the most recommended optional stop on this route, with the famous Chitradurga Fort offering a 45-minute heritage visit through its extraordinary multi-layered fortification with seven concentric walls. History-inclined travellers consistently consider this stop one of the highlights of the Bangalore to Murudeshwar road trip, as the scale and ingenuity of the fort's construction is impressive even in a partial visit. Davanagere, approximately 75 kilometres further along NH 48, is equally famous for a different reason: the city is widely regarded as the home of benne dosa or butter dosa, a thick, ghee-laden variation of the South Indian staple that has a devoted following among Karnataka highway travellers. A proper breakfast stop at one of the famous Davanagere restaurants is something most experienced drivers on this route specifically plan for, and the 20-minute stop is widely considered one of the best roadside food experiences on any Karnataka highway. The short highlight: Chitradurga Fort - 18th-century seven-walled hill fortress; Davanagere - famous benne dosa breakfast stop on the highway.
Haveri
Landscape greens as coast approaches
From Davanagere, NH 48 continues northwest through Haveri and then turns southwest toward Sirsi, covering approximately 125 kilometres and bringing the total from Bangalore to around 400 kilometres. Haveri is a mid-sized town and a practical stop for a quick break or lunch, with several restaurants along the highway. Beyond Haveri, the route continues to Sirsi, which sits at around 625 metres altitude in the Western Ghats foothills and marks the point at which the character of the drive changes: the road enters the forested Malnad region and the landscape becomes noticeably greener, cooler and more tropical as the elevation increases. Sirsi is historically significant as the home of the Marikamba Temple, one of the most important goddess temples in Karnataka and the site of a major festival every two years that draws enormous crowds from across the state and from the Konkan diaspora. For travellers with religious itineraries, a darshan at the Marikamba Temple is a meaningful addition to the day before continuing to Murudeshwar. The short highlight: Haveri - mid-route town on NH 48; Sirsi - Marikamba Temple town in Western Ghats foothills; landscape greens as coast approaches.

Murudeshwar
Coastal Karnataka
From Sirsi, the route descends toward the coast through the Western Ghats, connecting to NH 66 near Kumta after approximately 60 kilometres and then continuing south along the coastal highway for around 30 kilometres to Murudeshwar. This final section of the drive is the most visually rewarding: the descent from the Western Ghats foothills to the coast is steep and forested, passing through rubber and areca nut plantations before the Arabian Sea becomes visible from the road. Kumta is a significant junction town on NH 66, and the nearby Mirjan Fort is visible from the highway approach, making it a natural stop for travellers who want to combine the heritage site with their arrival day. The coastal highway from Kumta to Murudeshwar runs through characteristic coastal Karnataka landscape of fishing villages, coconut groves and glimpses of the sea before the Shiva statue of Murudeshwar becomes visible on the horizon, one of the most distinctive arrival views of any destination on the Karnataka coast. The short highlight: NH 66 coastal Karnataka approach; Kumta junction - access to Gokarna and Mirjan Fort; final coastal descent to Murudeshwar.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Murudeshwar Route
Four package structures cover almost every group on this route, all including the vehicle, fuel and a trained chauffeur, quoted garage to garage in writing.
Temple Circuit Package
The most booked configuration and the honest best use of the corridor. Murudeshwar and Gokarna together with Idagunji folded in, over three nights. The two share the Atmalinga tradition, so the circuit makes narrative as well as logistical sense. We plan around darshan timings rather than driving times.
Coast and Falls Package
Jog Falls on the way in via Sagara, two nights at Murudeshwar, Honnavar or Apsarakonda on the way back. Best between August and December when the Sharavathi is full. The Malnad descent is the most scenic driving on any of our coastal routes.
Diving and Two-Night Package
For groups going specifically for Netrani. One full day offshore for diving or snorkelling, the temple and gopura on the other, with the vehicle waiting at the jetty. Diving is booked separately and is weather dependent, so we build a spare half day in case the sea does not cooperate.
Family and Luxury Package
For families, milestone celebrations and visiting guests taking the coast at a relaxed pace, often across a longer Murudeshwar, Gokarna and Udupi circuit. Ambient LED lighting, HD LCD entertainment and a chauffeur in formal attire, with standing headroom and full recliners suiting elderly travellers across a ten-hour driving day — see our corporate travels bangalore service.

How to Book a Force Urbania in Bangalore
Booking a Force Urbania in Bangalore takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.
Step 1: Contact Tejas Travels
● Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours.
● Share your travel dates, pickup location, group size and variant: 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 or 16 seater.
● Tell us what else you want in the circuit — Gokarna, Udupi, Jog Falls, Idagunji — since Murudeshwar alone is a half-day site and the rest of the plan shapes the routing.
● If Netrani diving is part of the trip, say so, because that adds a full day and needs a spare window for weather.
Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote
● Within 2 hours of your enquiry we send a written quote by WhatsApp or email.
● It itemises every charge: hire rate, driver allowance, night halt charges and tolls at actuals. No permit or entry tax applies on this route.
● No verbal-only pricing — everything is in writing before you confirm.
● For corporate and group bookings, a proforma invoice can be issued at this stage.
● To compare the 13-seater against the 15-seater, or a tempo traveller against the Urbania, request both quotes together.
Step 3: Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance
● Review the written quote and confirm by WhatsApp or phone.
● A 20 per cent advance of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific Urbania variant on your dates.
● Pay by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card. Advance receipt within 30 minutes.
● Book ahead for Mahashivaratri, long weekends and the December to January period. If diving is in the plan, secure the operator slot at the same time.
● Confirmation includes chauffeur name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time and the billing breakdown, all in writing.
Step 4: Your Chauffeur and Urbania Arrive Early
● Your chauffeur reaches the pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure, including on a 4:30 am start.
● The Urbania is deep-cleaned, fuelled and ready, and the chauffeur calls 30 minutes before arrival.
● He drops at the temple approach and waits at the parking below the hill.
● During the trip he handles routing, tolls, halt planning across a ten-hour day and drop points across the circuit.
● At trip end the balance is settled after the advance; extra kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.
Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your dates, group size and what else you want in the circuit. Written quote in 2 hours.

● Cash: Balance accepted at trip end with receipt. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation.

Special Conditions
● Multi-day circuits: three-night and longer coastal itineraries need minimum 5 days notice for a full refund, since the vehicle is committed for the duration.
● Diving and boats: Netrani trips are weather dependent and outside our control. A cancelled dive or boat is not grounds for cancelling the vehicle booking, and we reshape the day instead, which is why we build a spare window into diving itineraries.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Murudeshwar Urbania
Approximately 465 km via Tumkur, Arsikere, Shivamogga, Sagara and Honnavar, then south on NH66. Expect 9 to 10 hours including halts. The alternative via Hubballi and Ankola is around 490 km but faster highway for most of its length. No permit or entry tax applies.
The town itself is a half day. Temple, gopura lift, statue, fort and beach are comfortably done between mid-morning and late afternoon. Nine hours each way for half a day is a hard trade unless you are travelling for darshan, which is why we recommend combining it with Gokarna, Udupi, Idagunji or Jog Falls across three nights.
Yes. The Raja Gopura at the temple entrance is about twenty storeys and has a lift running most of the way up to a viewing level looking across the statue, the complex and the coastline. There is a modest charge, paid at the site, and queues build at peak hours, so go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Garage to garage with fuel included: Rs 40 per km. Driver allowance is Rs 600 per day plus night halt charges on multi-day trips, with tolls at actuals and no permit or entry tax. The gopura lift, boat and diving fees and temple charges are paid at the site.
Yes, and it is one of the few genuine scuba destinations in India. Netrani sits about 19 km offshore, an hour by boat each way, with coral and good visibility through the October to May season. Snorkelling runs for non-divers. Trips must be booked in advance with a licensed operator, certification rules apply beyond an introductory dive, and nothing runs in monsoon or rough seas.
They share the Atmalinga tradition. When Ravana was tricked by Ganesha into setting the linga down at Gokarna, the cloth covering it is said to have fallen here, which is how Murudeshwar takes its significance. That makes the two a natural pilgrimage pair as well as a convenient one, since they sit about 70 km apart on the same coast.
At 465 km each way and a circuit at the far end, yes for most groups. Ten hours in push-back fabric seats is a materially different day from ten hours in full recliners with a quiet cabin, and the Malnad descent has enough bends that chassis stiffness shows. The narrow temple and forest approach roads also suit a mid-size premium vehicle better than a coach.
November to February for the coast. If Jog Falls is in your plan, August to December is when the Sharavathi is full and the falls are at their best, so there is a trade-off: the falls peak in the wetter months when the sea is roughest and Netrani is closed. Tell us which matters more and we will plan the dates around it.
More than 72 hours ahead: no charge, full advance refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 per cent, 24 to 48 hours 25 per cent, 12 to 24 hours 50 per cent, under 12 hours 75 per cent. Three-night and longer circuits need 5 days notice. A cancelled dive or boat because of sea conditions is not grounds for cancelling the vehicle booking; we reshape the day instead.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passengers insurance by the company. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required under Indian motor law, chauffeurs are police verified and PSV licensed, and the fleet is serviced at authorised Force Motors centres. Groups wanting personal accident cover should arrange it separately, which is worth considering if diving is on your itinerary.
