Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary Treks
Guided walks from the camp lead into the cauvery wildlife sanctuary, home to spotted deer, the endangered grizzled giant squirrel, marsh crocodiles, turtles and more than 200 species of birds. River terns, fish eagles, kingfishers and woodpeckers are common after the monsoon. Early morning walks give the best sightings and cooler air.
Galibore Hillock
The windy hillock that gives the camp its name offers a gentle climb and a wide view over the forest and the bends of the Kaveri. Walk up with a naturalist, as the sanctuary does not allow unguided wandering.
Sangama
A short drive back towards Kanakapura, Sangama is the confluence of the Arkavathi and the Kaveri. The broad sandbanks are lively on weekends, and it is also the starting point for the crossing to Mekedatu.
Mekedatu
From Sangama, forest department buses carry visitors to Mekedatu, where the Kaveri races through a gap in the rock so narrow that legend says a goat leapt across it. The swirling water has carved deep round potholes in the granite, which are worth a close look from safe ground.
Chunchi Falls Viewpoint
On the Sangama road, a short detour leads to the Chunchi Falls viewpoint and watchtower above the Arkavathi gorge. Going down to the water is currently restricted, so enjoy the view from the marked points.
Bheemeshwari
Further downstream, Bheemeshwari is the sister Jungle Lodges camp on the Kaveri, known for riverside cottages and coracle trips. Some travellers pair a night at each camp for a longer river holiday.
Muthathi
This riverside village holds a much-loved Anjaneya temple and shady banks for a quiet picnic. The drive runs through sanctuary forest, so keep an eye out for wildlife.

It can be, but it works far better as an overnight stay. As a one day trip from bangalore, most groups visit Chunchi Falls, Sangama and Mekedatu and return the same evening. If you want the coracle ride, a trek and the quiet evening by the river that make Galibore special, plan a night at the camp. The same vehicle and driver stay with you throughout.
August to February is the best window, when the river runs full, the forest is green and birdlife is at its richest. From March to June the afternoons get very hot, though the wide sandbanks and lagoons revealed by the lower water have their own charm. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends at Sangama and Mekedatu.
Mobile signal fades after Kanakapura and is largely absent at the camp, so share your plans with family before you leave. Swimming or wading deep in the Cauvery at Sangama, Mekedatu or near the camp is not safe because of strong hidden currents and slippery rocks. Stick to the coracle rides and activities run by the camp staff.

Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure carries no charge and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 percent of the total fare, between 24 and 48 hours 25 percent, between 12 and 24 hours 50 percent, and under 12 hours 75 percent. Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance cover, so passengers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance.
