Places to Visit in Hampi

Virupaksha Temple
The Virupaksha Temple is the oldest and the only continuously active place of worship in Hampi, with an unbroken history of worship stretching back to at least the seventh century CE, predating the Vijayanagara Empire itself. The temple is dedicated to Lord Virupaksha, a form of Shiva, and its towering nine-tiered eastern gopuram rising to around 50 metres is visible from a considerable distance across the Hampi landscape, serving as the natural landmark from which most visits to the site begin. The temple complex contains a sanctum sanctorum, three ante-chambers, a pillared hall and an open pillared hall, all decorated with carvings, and the ceilings of certain corridors carry painted murals from different historical periods. The famous resident elephant Lakshmi blesses visitors in the courtyard with her trunk and is one of the most memorable encounters in any visit to the site. The inner shrine area also contains a fascinating pinhole camera effect, where the shadow of the main gopuram is projected inverted onto a wall inside a dark chamber, a phenomenon that attracts architecture and science enthusiasts alongside pilgrims. All Bangalore to Hampi taxi travellers begin their circuit here.

Bangalore
Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Tumkur
Gateway to North Karnataka
The first stage from Bangalore to Tumkur covers approximately 70 kilometres on NH 48, passing through the northwestern suburbs of the city before the highway opens into the flat, dry landscape typical of the Deccan plateau. Tumkur is a significant city in its own right, the headquarters of Tumkur district and an important industrial and educational hub, but for the purposes of a Bangalore to Hampi cab journey it primarily functions as the first natural break point for fuel and breakfast. Several well-established highway restaurants and fuel stations cluster around the Tumkur approach, and a 20-minute stop here sets up the remainder of the drive comfortably. The road from Bangalore to Tumkur is a smooth, well-maintained four-lane national highway for most of the distance, and the journey from the city to Tumkur typically takes between one hour and one hour fifteen minutes in moderate traffic. Travellers who depart Bangalore before five-thirty in the morning usually clear this section easily before the commuter traffic of Tumkur city builds up. From Tumkur, the route continues northwestward on the highway toward Sira and then Chitradurga.

Chitradurga
Hill fort with seven concentric walls
The stretch from Tumkur to Chitradurga covers around 130 additional kilometres, bringing the total distance from Bangalore to around 200 kilometres and passing through the towns of Sira and Hiriyur before Chitradurga is reached. The landscape through this section is characteristic of the Karnataka Deccan: dry, open country with rocky outcrops, scrub vegetation, the occasional large reservoir and the flat-topped hillocks that are a geological feature of the region. Chitradurga itself is one of the most rewarding stops on the entire Bangalore to Hampi route, and travellers making a Bangalore to Hampi taxi journey who can afford an extra hour typically plan a visit to the famous Chitradurga Fort. The fort is a remarkable multi-layered hill fortification with seven concentric walls, 19 gateways and numerous temples and granaries built into its rocky topography, and it served as the stronghold of the Nayaka chiefs and later of Hyder Ali. Even a 45-minute walk through the outer sections of the fort gives a vivid sense of the scale and ingenuity of its construction. The short highlight of this stop: Chitradurga - historic hill fort with seven concentric walls overlooking the highway.
Hospet
Nearest town to Hampi
From Chitradurga, the route continues on NH 50 through Davangere and on toward Hospet, covering approximately 110 more kilometres and bringing the total from Bangalore to around 310 kilometres. Davangere is a significant city and offers another good break point for a meal or refreshments, with the highway through the city reasonably straightforward. The road between Chitradurga and Hospet passes through increasingly flatter and hotter country, particularly in the summer months, and the landscape remains characteristic of the Karnataka Deccan interior before the boulder formations that announce the approach to Hampi begin to appear on the horizon as Hospet gets closer. Hospet is the nearest large town to Hampi, approximately 13 kilometres away, and most supplies, ATMs, pharmacy stops and accommodation upgrades are found here rather than in Hampi village itself. The Tungabhadra Dam on the outskirts of Hospet is a popular stop in its own right, with a large reservoir, garden area and the option of a boat ride, and many Hampi tour package from Bangalore itineraries include it as an add-on on the day of arrival or departure.

Hampi
Arrival at the UNESCO World Heritage Site
The final 13 kilometres from Hospet to Hampi village is one of the most anticipated stretches of the entire journey, as the landscape transforms dramatically and the enormous orange granite boulders that define the visual character of Hampi begin to appear on either side of the road. The approach to the site is unmistakable: the scale and strangeness of the geology grows with each kilometre, and the first glimpse of the Virupaksha Temple gopuram rising above the boulders signals the arrival at one of the most remarkable places in South India. Hampi village and the Hampi Bazaar area are the principal drop-off points for Bangalore to Hampi cab travellers, and the cab can wait in designated parking areas within the site during sightseeing. It is worth noting that the roads within the Hampi monument zone are narrow and shared with cycles, autos, pedestrians and cattle, so drivers familiar with the layout are valuable. Most travellers on a day trip from Bangalore arrive in Hampi between noon and one in the afternoon if they left the city by five or six in the morning, giving them a full afternoon and, if staying overnight, the following morning before the return journey.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Hampi Route
Four package structures cover almost every group on this route, all including the vehicle, fuel and a trained chauffeur, quoted garage to garage in writing.
Two-Night Heritage Package
The configuration we recommend and the most booked. Leave before dawn, arrive for Virupaksha and Hemakuta at sunset, take the Sacred Centre and Vittala on a full second day, the Royal Enclosure and museum on the third morning, then drive home. It gives the site the time it needs.
Weekend Package
The compressed version: a Friday night or very early Saturday departure, one full day at the site, Sunday return. Enough for the Sacred Centre and Vittala but not the Royal Enclosure or across the river. Best in the cooler months, since a single day in April heat covers far less than the schedule suggests.
College and Educational Package
Hampi is a standing fixture on history and architecture syllabuses, and student batches are a large share of traffic on this corridor. Twelve to sixteen seater Urbania with verified chauffeurs, GST invoicing and documentation supplied to the institution, plus multi-vehicle coordination for larger batches. We build in proper water and meal halts, which matters more here than on any other route. See our student transportation management service.
Luxury and Photography Package
For families wanting the site done comfortably, for visiting guests, and for photography groups who need Matanga before first light and golden hour again in the evening. Ambient LED lighting, HD LCD entertainment and a chauffeur in formal attire, with the itinerary built around light rather than convenience. Often extended into a Hampi and Badami or Hampi and Goa circuit. See the full force urbania rent bangalore fleet.

Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote
● Within 2 hours of your enquiry we send a written quote by WhatsApp or email.
● It itemises every charge: hire rate, driver allowance of Rs 600 per day and tolls at actuals. No permit or entry tax applies on this route.
● No verbal-only pricing — everything is in writing before you confirm.
● For college and corporate bookings, a proforma invoice can be issued at this stage.
● To compare the 13-seater against the 15-seater, or a tempo traveller against the Urbania, request both quotes together.

● Confirmation includes chauffeur name and mobile, vehicle registration, departure time and the billing breakdown, all in writing.
● Book ahead for the October to February season and Hampi Utsav, when Hosapete hotels fill completely.
Step 4: Your Chauffeur and Urbania Arrive Early
● Your chauffeur reaches the pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure, including on a 5 am start.
● The Urbania is deep-cleaned, fuelled and ready, and the chauffeur calls 30 minutes before arrival.
● At the site he repositions between clusters so the vehicle waits where you finish, not where you started.
● During the trip he handles routing, tolls, parking at each cluster and halt planning.
● At trip end the balance is settled after the advance; extra kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

What Our Customers Say About Our Urbania Services in Bangalore
Why Choose Tejas Tours and Travels?
Frequently Asked Questions - Bangalore to Hampi Urbania
Approximately 340 km on NH48 via Tumkur, Sira, Chitradurga and Hiriyur, then northeast through Hosapete. Expect 6.5 to 7 hours including one halt. The first 240 km is fast six-lane highway; the last hundred are two-lane and slower than the distance suggests. No permit or entry tax applies.
Two full days at the site, which means a two-night trip from Bangalore. It covers roughly 26 square kilometres and a single rushed day sees perhaps a third. A weekend works if you accept covering the Sacred Centre and Vittala and leaving the Royal Enclosure and the far side of the river for another time.
Not all the way. Private vehicles stop at the designated parking and the last one to two kilometres is covered on foot or by battery-operated buggies running continuously for a nominal fare, a restriction protecting the monuments from vibration and dust. Our chauffeur parks and waits. Go early, because the courtyard has no shade.
Garage to garage with fuel included: Rs 40 per km approximately 27,900 rs. Driver allowance is Rs 600 per day, tolls at actuals, no permit or entry tax. Monument tickets, the battery vehicle fare, camera charges and guide fees are paid at the site.
October to February. Hampi sits in a dry, largely shadeless part of the Deccan and the heat from March to June is punishing on an open archaeological site. If you must travel then, we build the itinerary around early mornings and late afternoons and use the vehicle as a cooled base through midday, but you will see less than the same trip in December.
On this route the deciding specification is the air conditioning rather than the suspension. A Hampi day means boarding six or eight times, each after an hour or more on hot open stone, and a properly cooled, insulated cabin is what lets a group keep going through the afternoon. Add full recliners for the seven-hour drive at each end.
Yes, but plan it. Anegundi, Pampa Sarovar and Anjanadri hill sit across the Tungabhadra, and reaching them by road means a detour of roughly 30 km via the bridge. Coracle and ferry crossings exist but are season dependent and unsuitable for moving a group with luggage. We schedule it as a half day on a two-night itinerary.
We strongly recommend one. Hampi is a ruined city rather than a single monument, and without someone to explain what you are looking at much of it reads as anonymous stonework. Licensed guides are available at the site and charge separately. If you take one, tell us at booking so we allow a seat in the vehicle.
More than 72 hours ahead: no charge, full advance refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 per cent, 24 to 48 hours 25 per cent, 12 to 24 hours 50 per cent, under 12 hours 75 per cent. Two-night and longer itineraries need 5 days notice for a full refund, and college bookings run on contract terms.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passengers insurance by the company. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required under Indian motor law, chauffeurs are police verified and PSV licensed, and the fleet is serviced at authorised Force Motors centres. Colleges and institutions typically arrange personal accident cover under their own policy.
