A short drive back towards Kanakapura, Sangama is the confluence of the Arkavathi and the Kaveri. The broad sandbanks are lively on weekends, and it is also the starting point for the crossing to Mekedatu.
Mekedatu
From Sangama, forest department buses carry visitors to Mekedatu, where the Kaveri races through a gap in the rock so narrow that legend says a goat leapt across it. The swirling water has carved deep round potholes in the granite, which are worth a close look from safe ground.
