Places to Visit in Chikmagalur

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka, rising to around 1,925 metres above sea level in the Baba Budan Giri range of the Western Ghats. It is the landmark that most travellers plan their entire Chikmagalur trip around, and for good reason: the climb to the summit involves a well-marked trail and a set of concrete steps that bring most reasonably fit visitors to the top within an hour and a half, where a small temple sits at the highest point alongside commanding views of the surrounding valleys and the distant plains. On clear mornings, the drive up to the base itself is rewarding, as the road winds through grasslands, shola forests and patches of mist that make the landscape feel genuinely remote. Trekkers planning a Chikmagalur trekking experience often combine Mullayanagiri with the adjacent Seethalayanagiri peak or the trail toward Baba Budangiri, turning a single summit visit into a fuller day in the hills. Photographers and families alike prioritise this peak, since it can be enjoyed at different levels of effort depending on how far along the trail each person is comfortable going.

Photographers and families alike prioritise this peak, since it can be enjoyed at different levels of effort depending on how far along the trail each person is comfortable going.

Baba Budangiri

Baba Budangiri

Baba Budangiri, named after the seventeenth-century Sufi saint Baba Budan, is a mountain range that sits close to Mullayanagiri and is known as much for its spiritual significance as for its landscapes. The dargah of Hazrat Dada Hayat Khalandar at the summit draws pilgrims of multiple faiths throughout the year, making it one of the more unusual stops in Karnataka where Hindu, Muslim and folk traditions exist side by side in the same place. The range also features the Manikyadhara Falls, a waterfall that drops from around thirty feet into a valley of dense vegetation and is considered sacred by local devotees. For travellers arriving on a Bangalore to Chikmagalur cab booking, the usual plan is to cover both Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri on the same day, since the two peaks are connected by a ridge trail and are only a short drive apart by road. The views from Kavikal Gandi viewpoint, close to the Baba Budangiri shrine, are among the most photographed in the district.

Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National Park covers around 600 square kilometres of some of the best-preserved tropical wet evergreen forest in the Western Ghats and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the broader Western Ghats listing. The park is named after the Kudremukh peak, whose silhouette resembles the face of a horse, and reaches an elevation of over 1,800 metres. Inside the park, wildlife that includes tigers, leopards, elephants, lion-tailed macaques and the gaur moves through forest that rarely sees the kind of tourist pressure found in more accessible sanctuaries. Trekkers who book a Bangalore to Chikmagalur car rental specifically for Kudremukh usually plan a separate day for the park, since the trek to the peak itself covers around 20 kilometres and requires an early start and good physical fitness. The drive into the park through the Lobo hamlet is an experience in itself, with dense canopy overhead and the Bhadra river audible through the trees.

Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls is a two-tiered waterfall in the Kemmangundi area that drops a combined height of around 168 metres, split between the upper Dodda Hebbe and the lower Chikka Hebbe sections. What makes it particularly memorable is that reaching it requires a jeep ride through a working coffee and cardamom estate, so the journey to the falls is woven into the experience rather than simply being a walk to a viewpoint. The route through the estate means visitors pass rows of coffee plants under shade trees, with the sound of the waterfall growing louder as the jeep climbs. The water at the base has long carried a local belief that it holds mild medicinal properties from the herbs growing upstream. Families and couples booking a Chikmagalur tour package from Bangalore frequently ask for Hebbe Falls to be added to the second-day itinerary, pairing it with the Kemmangundi hill station and the Z Point trek for a full day in the Kemmangundi area.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across the northwestern edge of the Chikmagalur district, is a protected forest reserve that covers around 492 square kilometres and forms one of the key wildlife corridors in Karnataka. Jeep safaris run inside the sanctuary offer sightings of wild elephants, leopards, the Indian giant squirrel, the Malabar pied hornbill, and during good fortune, a tiger in the more remote sections of the forest. The Bhadra River runs through the heart of the sanctuary, and boat rides on certain stretches of the river add a different dimension to the wildlife experience compared to a standard safari. Travellers booking a longer Bangalore to Chikmagalur cab trip of three or more days often include a morning at Bhadra alongside the coffee plantations and trekking stops, since the combination gives a well-rounded picture of what the district has to offer beyond its peaks and waterfalls.

Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi is a small hill station at around 1,434 metres above sea level that was once used as a summer retreat by the Mysore royal family and is now maintained as a government-run park and forest area. The town sits about 60 kilometres from Chikmagalur and makes for a rewarding second-day excursion from a base in the main town, particularly for travellers who want to combine short nature walks with the famous Z Point trek, which passes through grasslands before opening onto a panoramic ridge view. Hebbe Falls is accessible from Kemmangundi, and the area's cooler climate, particularly from October to February, makes it comfortable enough for longer outdoor time without the physical demands of Mullayanagiri. For groups travelling on a one way cab Bangalore to Chikmagalur booking and spending two or three nights, Kemmangundi is almost always recommended as a day-trip stop.

Hirekolale Lake

Hirekolale Lake

Hirekolale Lake is a scenic reservoir on the outskirts of Chikmagalur town, surrounded by gentle hills and a quiet shoreline that is popular for an early morning or late afternoon walk. Unlike the more physically demanding peaks and trekking trails in the district, this lake is accessible to everyone in a travel group regardless of fitness level, making it a reliable inclusion when the group includes children or older travellers. The lake also offers a reflective view of the hills in the background during clear weather, and local vendors around the periphery serve fresh coffee grown on the nearby estates, which makes a break here feel genuinely of the place rather than a generic rest stop. Travellers booking a Bangalore to Chikmagalur taxi for a weekend trip often stop here on the first evening after arrival, before heading into the hills on the following morning.

Coffee Plantations

Coffee Plantations

Chikmagalur holds the distinction of being the place where coffee cultivation in India is believed to have begun, when the saint Baba Budan brought seven coffee seeds from Yemen in the seventeenth century and planted them in the hills that now bear his name. The coffee plantations that spread across the slopes around the town and toward Sakleshpur and Mudigere today draw visitors who want to understand where their morning cup comes from, and many estates now offer guided walks where guests can follow the fruit from the flowering stage through to drying and roasting. Estate stays have also grown significantly popular as a travel format among couples and small groups booking a Chikmagalur tour package from Bangalore, where a night in a planter's bungalow or a farm homestay is the centrepiece of the trip rather than a list of viewpoints. The best months for seeing the coffee in bloom, when the white flowers cover the plants and the fragrance carries across the hillside, are February and March.

Urbania Packages for the Bangalore to Chikmagalur Route

Four package structures cover almost every group on this route, all including the vehicle, fuel and a trained chauffeur, quoted garage to garage in writing.

Family Package

For families and multi-household groups of eight to sixteen on a two or three night plantation stay. Built around comfort rather than distance: Belur on the way in, a relaxed arrival, Mullayanagiri early on a clear morning with the pass already secured, and the estate walk in the afternoon. Standing headroom and full recliners suit elderly travellers, and the smaller variants reach homestay lanes larger vehicles cannot.

Corporate Package

Chikmagalur is a favourite for Bangalore team offsites, close enough for a Friday evening departure. Twelve or thirteen seater Urbania with full recliners and per-seat charging, plus GST invoicing, a proforma invoice for purchase-order approval and GPS visibility for the organiser. Hill entry passes are raised by us, so nobody on the team is dealing with a portal at midnight. Thirty-day credit terms for registered accounts — see our corporate travels bangalore service.

Luxury Package

For milestone celebrations and guests staying at the premium estate properties around Aldur, Mudigere and Kalasa. Ambient LED lighting, HD LCD entertainment and a chauffeur in formal attire, in whichever variant suits the estate approach road. Often extended into a Sringeri or Kudremukh circuit across three days. See the full force urbania rent bangalore fleet.

Weekend and Friends Package

The classic run: ten to sixteen people, a Friday evening or early Saturday departure and a Sunday night return. Trekking groups heading for Mullayanagiri or Z Point should say so at booking, since the pass slot shapes the whole Saturday. A chauffeur means the descent after a long day on the hills is somebody else's problem.

How to Book a Force Urbania in Bangalore

Booking a Force Urbania in Bangalore takes under five minutes. Follow these four steps.

Step 1: Contact Tejas Travels

●        Call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773, or email info@tejastravels.com — available 24 hours.

●        Share your travel dates, pickup location, group size and variant: 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15 or 16 seater.

●        Tell us if Mullayanagiri or Baba Budangiri is a fixed part of your plan, so the entry pass slot can be secured early.

●        Share your estate or homestay name, since many sit at the end of narrow approach tracks and access needs confirming in advance.

Step 2: Receive Your Written Quote

●        Within 2 hours of your enquiry we send a written quote by WhatsApp or email.

●        It itemises every charge: hire rate, driver allowance of Rs 600 per day, tolls and hill entry fees at actuals.

●        No verbal-only pricing — everything is in writing before you confirm.

●        For corporate bookings, a proforma invoice can be issued at this stage for purchase-order approval.

●        To compare the 13-seater against the 15-seater, or a tempo traveller against the Urbania, request both quotes together.

Step 3: Confirm Your Booking and Pay Advance

●        Review the written quote and confirm by WhatsApp or phone.

●        A 20 per cent advance of the total fare confirms the booking and guarantees the specific Urbania variant on your dates.

●        On confirmation we raise the hill entry pass against your vehicle and dates, subject to the daily cap.

●        Pay by UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS or card. Advance receipt within 30 minutes.

●        Book early for long weekends and the December to January period, when both the fleet and the hill passes fill quickly.

Step 4: Your Chauffeur and Urbania Arrive Early

●        Your chauffeur reaches the pickup point 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

●        The Urbania is deep-cleaned, fuelled and ready, and the chauffeur calls 30 minutes before arrival.

●        He carries the hill entry pass offline, since coverage drops past the check post.

●        During the trip he handles routing, tolls, the summit road pacing and estate drop points.

●        At trip end the balance is settled after the advance; extra kilometres or hours are billed at the pre-agreed rate.

Quick booking: WhatsApp +91 9980277773 with your dates, group size and estate name. Written quote in 2 hours.

Payment Methods

We accept all major payment methods. Given the limited fleet, the advance secures your specific variant and dates.

●        UPI: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM UPI. Fastest method, instant confirmation, recommended for advances.

●        Bank transfer: NEFT, IMPS, RTGS. For corporate clients and advances above Rs 10,000. IMPS instant, NEFT up to 2 hours.

●        Credit or debit card: Visa, Mastercard, RuPay via payment link. Valid for advance and full payment.

●        Net banking: All major Indian banks, link sent by WhatsApp or email.

●        Cash: Balance accepted at trip end with receipt. The advance must be digital for booking confirmation.

●        Corporate credit: 30-day terms for registered accounts, invoice within 24 hours of trip completion.

Fleet note: the Urbania fleet is small compared with standard tempo travellers and books out well in advance for long weekends and the December to January period.

Cancellation Policy

A tiered policy, communicated in writing at booking confirmation.

●        More than 72 hours before departure: no charge; 100 per cent of the advance refunded within 5 to 7 working days.

●        48 to 72 hours before departure: 10 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        24 to 48 hours before departure: 25 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        12 to 24 hours before departure: 50 per cent of the total trip fare; advance refunded less that deduction.

●        Less than 12 hours before departure: 75 per cent of the total trip fare; minimal or no refund depending on trip value.

●        No-show, vehicle deployed and group absent: 100 per cent of the total trip fare. No refund.

●        Cancellation by Tejas Travels (breakdown, force majeure): no charge; 100 per cent refunded within 2 working days or an equivalent substitute offered.

Special Conditions

●        Hill road closures: if the district administration suspends tourist vehicle movement on the Mullayanagiri or Baba Budangiri road for your dates, that is force majeure. You may reschedule at no penalty or cancel with a full refund of the vehicle fare.

●        Entry passes already raised: the hill entry fee, once paid to the district portal, is refunded under their rules rather than ours. We tell you the position before raising it.

●        Peak dates: long weekends, Diwali, the December to January period and New Year need 48 hours notice for a full refund.

●        Limited-fleet vehicles: minimum 5 days notice for a full refund on pre-booked Urbania variants.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bangalore to Chikmagalur Urbania

Approximately 245 km on NH75 via Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan, then the Belur road into the coffee belt. Expect 4.5 to 5.5 hours including one halt. The whole route is within Karnataka, so no interstate permit or entry tax applies.

Yes. The Mullayanagiri, Seethalayanagiri and Baba Budangiri road runs on an online vehicle entry pass through the Chikkamagaluru district portal, with a capped number of vehicles released daily in time slots and a per-vehicle fee verified at the Kaimara check post. We raise the pass against your vehicle and dates. Tell us at enquiry if the peak is fixed in your plan, because weekend slots go early.

Not in your own vehicle. Hebbe Falls is reached by Forest Department jeep from Kemmangundi, across around nine kilometres of rough estate track and stream crossings. Your vehicle drops the group at the jeep point and waits. The same applies to Jhari Falls. Budget half a day, with the strongest flow from July to December.

Garage to garage with fuel included: Rs 40 per km so approximately 20,300 rs. Driver allowance is Rs 600 per day, with tolls and hill entry fees at actuals. Because the fare is on actual kilometres run, totals are confirmed in writing before any advance.

For eight to thirteen passengers the 12 or 13 seater is the reference choice and handles the summit road and estate lanes comfortably. The 8 to 10 seater uses a 1/1 layout where every passenger has a window seat. A 15 or 16 seater manages the hills more slowly, so take it only if you need the capacity. Share your estate name and we will confirm the approach road.

The highway leg is easy, so the case rests on the hills. The Mullayanagiri climb is around twenty kilometres of narrow, twisting road taking an hour or more, and the monocoque body and parabolic suspension reduce body roll and cabin noise noticeably. If your group includes elderly travellers or anyone prone to motion sickness, it is usually the easiest decision on the trip.

In heavy monsoon rain the district administration restricts or suspends tourist vehicle movement on the hill roads because of landslide risk, sometimes at short notice. We treat that as force majeure: reschedule at no penalty, or cancel with a full refund of the vehicle fare. It is a safety call by the authorities, not something any operator can work around.

September to February. Post-monsoon the hills are greenest and the waterfalls still full, and by December the mornings are genuinely cold. March to May is hotter but pleasant in the hills. The June to August monsoon is spectacular but carries the highest chance of road closures and washed-out views.

More than 72 hours ahead: no charge, full advance refunded in 5 to 7 working days. Between 48 and 72 hours the charge is 10 per cent, 24 to 48 hours 25 per cent, 12 to 24 hours 50 per cent, under 12 hours 75 per cent. Peak dates need 48 hours notice for a full refund. Hill entry fees already paid to the district portal are refunded under their rules rather than ours.

No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not cover passengers insurance by the company. Our vehicles carry the statutory commercial vehicle insurance required under Indian motor law, chauffeurs are police verified and PSV licensed, and the fleet is serviced at authorised Force Motors centres. Groups wanting personal accident cover should arrange it separately.
