Ramanathaswamy Temple
The heart of every visit. The rameshwaram temple enshrines the Ramalingam, said to have been made of sand by Sita so that Rama could worship Shiva after returning from Lanka, alongside the Vishwalingam brought by Hanuman from Kailash, which is worshipped first. Its pillared corridors, with more than a thousand carved columns, are counted among the longest temple corridors in the world. Inside the complex are 22 sacred wells, or theerthams, and pilgrims are drenched with water from each in turn before darshan. Carry a change of clothes.

Departure Point
Your journey to Ooty begins from Bangalore, the gateway to South India's most beloved hill stations. Pick-up is available from any part of the city — Koramangala, Electronic City, Whitefield, Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur, Marathahalli, or Majestic. The most common route out of Bangalore takes you onto NH275, the six-lane Mysore Expressway, which is one of the smoothest and best-maintained national highways in Karnataka. An early departure between 5 AM and 6 AM is strongly advised to clear Bangalore city limits before peak traffic begins. The first 50 km on the expressway are fast, comfortable, and lightly trafficked in the early hours, setting a pleasant tone for the journey ahead. Our drivers are experienced in choosing the optimal departure window and route based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring that the first stretch of your Bangalore to Ooty road trip is efficient, calm, and enjoyable from the very first kilometre.

Mango Capital of Tamil Nadu
An early start is the single best decision on this trip. Leaving Bangalore by 5:30 AM gets you past Electronic City and the Attibele border before traffic builds. Hosur, just across the border, was nicknamed Little England by the British for its mild climate, and today it is known for its automobile factories and the rose greenhouses around town. The interstate tax is settled near the border. NH44 then widens into a fast highway to Krishnagiri, where orchards grow Alphonso, Banganapalli and Totapuri mangoes; between April and July the roadside stalls are hard to pass. It makes a good breakfast halt at around 7:00 AM.

Steel City of Tamil Nadu
This stretch runs through granite hills and dry farmland to Dharmapuri, the district from which most visitors reach Hogenakkal, where the Kaveri crashes through rocky gorges and coracle rides take you close to the falls. It sits about 45 kilometres off the highway, so it suits a return-trip detour rather than day one. Salem, the largest city on the way, is home to the Salem Steel Plant, which gives it the name Steel City, and it is also known for mangoes, sago and silver anklets. The Salem bypass keeps the drive moving, and the highway food plazas here are among the best on the route.

Thoonga Nagaram, the City That Never Sleeps
Dindigul has made handcrafted padlocks for over a century, and its locks earned a GI tag. The town is just as famous for Dindigul biryani, made with short-grain seeraga samba rice, and most families take their lunch here below the Rock Fort. The last 65 kilometres bring you into Madurai by mid-afternoon. This 2,500-year-old city, the capital of the Pandya kings, is called Thoonga Nagaram because its streets stay busy through the night. Spend the evening at the Meenakshi Amman Temple, whose towering gopurams are covered in thousands of painted figures, and see the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal if time allows. Madurai is our recommended overnight halt, with hotels for every budget.

Handloom Town of Ramanathapuram
Day two begins on NH87, heading south-east. About 12 kilometres out of Madurai, near Tiruppuvanam, lies Keeladi, where excavations since 2015 have uncovered an urban settlement from the Sangam era, with brick buildings, drainage, pottery inscribed in Tamil-Brahmi script and ornaments. The Keeladi museum displays the finds and is well worth an hour for families and students. The road then runs through Manamadurai to Paramakudi, a weaving town known for its handloom cotton and silk sarees, woven on looms that are still worked by hand in many homes.

Home of India's First Vertical Lift Sea Bridge
Mandapam is the last town on the mainland and faces the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park, a chain of 21 islands with coral reefs, sea grass beds and dolphins; Kurusadai Island can be visited with forest department permission. Then comes the highlight of the drive: the Annai Indira Gandhi road bridge, stretching 2.3 kilometres across the sea to Pamban Island. Beside it runs the new railway bridge, opened in 2025, whose central span lifts vertically to let ships pass. Strong winds occasionally slow traffic on the bridge, so your driver checks conditions before crossing.

Varanasi of the South
The last ten kilometres cross Pamban Island through fishing villages to Rameswaram town, and the eastern gopuram of the Ramanathaswamy Temple rises ahead. Rameswaram is called the Varanasi of the South because a pilgrimage to Kashi is traditionally completed here, with families bringing Ganga water to pour on the lingam and taking sand from Rameswaram back to the Ganga. The town is also proud to be the birthplace of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. The streets around the temple are narrow and crowded, so your driver will drop you near the east gate and park nearby. On a Madurai departure at 7:00 AM, you arrive by late morning with time to rest before the afternoon temple session.

For Bangalore companies organising team pilgrimages or cultural trips combining Rameswaram with Trichy, Chettinad and Madurai. The package includes GST invoicing, a Proforma Invoice for PO approval, one named driver for the whole trip and daily signed duty slips. The same corporate minibus bangalore stays with the team throughout, and our corporate transport services desk manages everything from quote to invoice.
A five-day plan for families: Bangalore to Trichy with Srirangam darshan on day one, Karaikudi and Rameswaram on day two, Agni Theertham, the 22 theerthams, Spatika Lingam darshan and island temples on day three, Dhanushkodi and the Kalam memorial on day four, and the return via Madurai on day five. Families completing a Kashi yatra or performing ancestral rites can plan the Agni Theertham rituals with priests in advance, and the driver schedules the early morning pickups.
For bhajan groups, community associations and village committees where cost per head matters most. Non-AC 12 to 17 seater mini buses with a clean vehicle and a verified driver on a straightforward plan. The mini bus rate per km in bangalore is lowest on this tier, and across a round trip of around 1,200 kilometres the saving per person is substantial. Maintenance and safety standards are the same on every tier.
Executive mini coach configuration with fewer, wider push-back seats, more legroom and a quieter cabin, ideal for elderly pilgrims and VIP groups on a long journey. For a premium small-group option, our luxury urbania rental bangalore service offers 13 to 17 seater Force Urbania vans.

Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All vehicles are seated with push-back seats, so we plan the Rameswaram trip as daytime driving with an overnight halt at Trichy or Karaikudi, which is safer and far more restful than an overnight journey.

The bangalore to rameswaram distance is approximately 590 kilometres via Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi and Ramanathapuram, or about 600 kilometres via Dindigul and Madurai. Driving time is 11 to 12 hours, and we recommend an overnight halt at Trichy, Karaikudi or Madurai to make the journey comfortable.
Both routes are good. The Trichy route lets you visit Srirangam, the Rock Fort and the Chettinad mansions of Karaikudi, while the Madurai route lets you add the Meenakshi Amman temple. Many groups go one way and return the other, turning the trip into a complete Tamil Nadu temple circuit.
Rates start from around Rs 30 per kilometre for a 12 to 14 seater AC mini bus, with a minimum of 300 kilometres per day. The fare includes base fare, fuel and driver allowance, while toll, parking, Tamil Nadu interstate tax, driver bata after 9:45 PM and GST are extra. The final rental is based on total kilometres and hours from our garage to garage, and every item appears in the written quote.
A 20 percent advance of the total fare confirms the booking and reserves the specific mini bus for your dates. It is paid digitally by UPI, bank transfer or card, a receipt follows within 30 minutes, and the balance is settled at the end of the trip.
Traditionally, pilgrims first bathe in the sea at Agni Theertham, then take the bath at the 22 theerthams inside the temple, change into dry clothes and have darshan of Ramanathaswamy. Many also attend the early morning Spatika Lingam darshan. Carry at least two changes of clothes, and keep wet clothes in a separate bag in the mini bus.
Yes. Travelling from Karnataka into Tamil Nadu requires an interstate permit, which is billed at actuals. We arrange it before departure, and it is checked at the Attibele border near Hosur.
October to March is the most comfortable time, though October to December is also the north-east monsoon season, when cyclone warnings can occasionally close the Pamban road bridge. April to June is hot and humid. Maha Shivaratri and the new moon days of Thai, Aadi and Mahalaya bring very large crowds for ancestral rites, so book early for those dates.
No. Tejas Tours and Travels does not operate sleeper bus services. All our vehicles are seated with push-back seats, and we plan the trip as daytime driving with an overnight halt on the way.
Cancelling more than 72 hours before departure costs nothing, and the full advance is refunded within 5 to 7 working days. The charge is 10 percent of the total fare between 48 and 72 hours, 25 percent between 24 and 48 hours, and 50 percent between 12 and 24 hours. Multi-day trips require a minimum 7-day notice for a full refund. If a cyclone warning or bridge closure prevents the trip, the advance is refunded in full within 2 working days.
Tejas Tours and Travels does not provide passenger insurance, so passengers who want cover should arrange their own travel insurance. All vehicles are fully insured and compliant, and every driver is verified. To book, call or WhatsApp +91 9980277773 or email info@tejastravels.com with your dates, pickup point, group size, preferred route and stay details. A written quote follows within 2 hours. Confirm it, pay the 20 percent advance, and you receive the driver details, vehicle number and full billing breakdown in writing. Our mini bus booking online and WhatsApp lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
